Why do scents turn to baby powder on me?!
ziggystardust13 replied to stardust's topic in Recommendations
I have the same problem. Honey is my death note. And amber tends to turn powdery. Have you tried perversion yet? That is by far my favorite. Its masculine too. No powder!!! Just amazingness! I put it on my guy too and it smells so great. -
Unbelievable...A rose scent I can wear! No soap?! woah First Impression out of the bottle: Grape Wet on skin: Bpals familiar wine note. Reminds me of Bordello. Very juicy with a hint of spicy lingering in the background...something wants to come out and play! Dry: I'm barely getting the florals, but I do get more violet than rose. The leather is very playful in the background, but my skin doesn't amp it like crazy. This is awesome. The sexy musk and leather keep the wine in check. Overall I really like Wanda. Something about her smells familiar, not sure what. Definitely will keep my imp. Undecided if I'd want a bottle. But hooray for a rose scent that works for me

I have such a love/hate relationship with snake oil. It's the perfect spicy vanilla. I love the spice though it is initially very medicinal, almost metallic. Something about it is so addicting. Initially I tried an imp fresh from the lab. I wanted more of the vanilla which I found in a bottle of aged snake oil I got off the forum. Its much more vanilla and lighter on the medicinal. But lately snake oil and I haven't been getting along. I'm getting the baby powder effect which I highly dislike. Weird thing is, I don't get this effect all the time, just sometimes. Guess its my weird skin chemistry? I don't recall having this problem with the fresh snake oil though. Either way, I love you snake oil.

The Illustrated Woman was so close to being my holy grail scent. It was love at first sniff, until... The honey note reared its ugly head. I've tried so many blends with honey (it sure finds its way into a lot of em) and have found it is my death note. I get baby powder and something that smells off, almost funky. I love the tobacco and vanilla. So smoky and divine! And initially I feared the pine but it was much lighter than I thought it would be and it too smelled wonderful. I still think this is a really great blend but I can't get over the funk the honey leaves behind. Damn you honey! Everything else about this scent is perfection.

It's very soft and comforting. I'm amping the amber and its warm, sweet, and inviting. It is a bit masculine so I don't know how often I will wear it. I love it anyway

This is one of the most intriguing bpals I've tried thus far. For some reason it smells so much like Dior's Jadore. It has a very perfumy quality. All that being said, I still really like it for some reason. I love the gardenia and boozy notes. Its beautifully blended so I can't detect much of the other notes in there. Fantastic!

I don't think I've tried anything with beeswax yet. I will def try that one! Never would have considered death cap but I am adding it to my list! Thanks for replying!

Hopefully I will be able to get my hands on some...

Wow I just checked it out and it looks amazing! Added to my wishlist. Thank you so much

Hi Kirsten I haven't tried much pine from bpal. I'm definitely up for trying out new things. The sap sounds interesting. I've discovered a few notes that I never thought I'd care for, one being moss! I'll add it to my wishlist. Thanks for the recommendation!

Hi Kittyhawk! I have tried Tombstone. And I LOVE unisex scents as well. Unfortunately I can't do the sassafras or cedar. Also, the scent reminded me of something(a bad memory) Very strange, I know. Its probably just my weird skin chemistry messing it up! A few others I've tried: Snake Charmer - This would have been perfect, but there was that metallic smell but much stronger than snake oil. Other than that, it smelled just like vanilla incense. yum Liz - The smoke and leather made it so Wow! Then the florals turned it perfumy. Dorian - One of my favorites. Its perfect as is! But I still would like to find something a little on the darker side. Celeste - fail Banshee Beat - Hello Patchouli! Where did you go vanilla?! Also, I've noticed so many bpal vanillas are paired with honey. That's a no no for me! Only equals baby powder and that is definitely NOT sexy! haha (IMO) EDIT: So I must have gotten a strange batch, or my chemistry has changed - because I received a decant of Snake Charmer and there was NO metallic note present. Really love this one.

Vanilla is my favorite scent in the world. I am still searching for the perfect one! I don't like foody vanilla. I'm looking for a smoky, sexy, resinous vanilla. I adore the dry down of snake oil, but there is something at the early stages that I don't love so much. Its a metallic smelling note. It could be due to my skin chemistry. So I am still searching! Any recommendations would be so helpful

This is the most innocent of all the bpals I have tried so far. Its very pretty and so perfectly blended, but its something my young niece could wear. Beautiful but definitely too light and "pretty" for me! I can see many people coveting this for sure!

I am shocked that this smells EXACTLY like the notes listed. It is perfectly blended. I didn't care for it as much in the bottle as on my skin. It definitely gets better as it dries. The caramel stands out for sure. It has me on the fence because I stray from anything foody. But this is very wearable and I do like it. Don't think I will get a bottle though.

I'm so confused by Smut. I want to love it. I love the notes so much. Its almost perfect on my skin, but there is something that isn't quite right. And it bothers me because it smells exactly like something I can't quite remember. This sounds so strange, but it reminds me a lot of Bottle Caps Candy. There is a sharpness to it. I usually love the boozy bpal notes, but this one isn't great. I realize as much as I want to love it, it doesnt work for me. Off to swaps

In bottle: Very sharp. Hello almond! Not sure if this is going to be wearable... Wet on skin: This smells just like Wedding Cake. Yummy and foody. Love it, but not into foody scents. Dry: The wedding cake scent has pretty much disappeared rather quickly. Spices are coming out. They aren't strong or overbearing. Quite nice! This softens up a lot but still has that foody quality at the base of it. I could also swear this has honey in it... Overall this is ok, and probably wonderful if you like Eat Me or foody scents. Off to swaps!

Definitely try O. And Black Musk also goes powdery on me as well. Haunted is nice Dark but still pretty

Boo is more of a foody scent than I expected. I get a buttery note. I get just a hint of cotton and it is sweet. Unfortunately I'm not big on foody scents. Definitely yummy but not something I'd wear.

I wanted to love Sin, however, my skin amps the patchouli so much. If it weren't for that, it would be lovely. *sigh*

The Antikythera Mechanism

I'm still trying to decide whether or not I like this. I get all of the notes listed and they are really blended together so well. Its a very smooth scent. Its quite masculine, but still soft. I really like unisex scents too. I could wear this. The only think that is keeping me from loving this scent is that I couldn't for the life of me figure out what it reminded me of. Ah yes. Kinda smells like men's shaving cream. Not sure if I can get past that. Still, I'm happy to have my imp and may test this on my man next time. -
I like Bordello but I don't love it. Its light and fruity. Two qualities I usually don't go for in a scent. If only there was a little more incense in there.... I will be keeping my imp though.

In my opinion Snake Charmer has a Snake Oil vibe (not a bad thing!) But I find it to be sweeter and more innocent than snake oil. Quite simply, I would say this smells like vanilla incense with a sharp note somewhere beneath all that warm, vanilla resin. If you are a fan of vanilla and snake oil, you will LOVE this

I got this imp as a freebie from a forum member. I never would have picked it out for myself. I shy away from florals. Nearly every floral bpal I've tried turns soapy. Not my beautiful phantom queen! When I smell this I have a hard time picking out notes because it is so beautifully blended. And I don't get the obvious floral either. The best way I can describe it is ethereal. Its fresh and cool and beautiful. My fiance loves this one. It is light, however. Not a ton of throw and fades pretty quickly. So I will just have to slather it on and reapply because I do love it. Its also something I can wear to work and won't seem too heady. I love phantom queen!

I love snake oil, but I don't love this. I also didn't care for O. This smells like O big time and I really can't smell the snake oil. Very heavy on the honey, which translates on me to baby powder and funk. And oh does it linger... If you like the scents that are really heavy on the honey you'll love it.

I have wanted to try this so bad and I was lucky enough to receive a frimp from a fellow forum member! This is what I hoped Velvet would smell like, which was the biggest disappointment to me. Its soft and rounded but it has that smoky sexiness that I LOVE. This is the most wearable chocolate I've found to date. Out of the bottle chocolate was dominant and I didn't think it would be wearable at all. But once I tested it on my skin the smokiness emerged. I really like this and its different from anything else I have. WIN! Update: this smells exactly like Bvlgari Notte. I have both and they smell exactly the same!
