So, I used to sort of pick my scents by season-- certain scents, especially spicy, "heavy," and foody ones, make me think of Fall and Winter, and my collection fell heavily to that end of the spectrum. But now I've moved to southern California, and I rarely feel like wearing them any more! I still love the scents, but they just don't spell "perpetual summer" to me! So I'm trying to balance out my collection by adding some lighter and brighter fragrances, or fragrances with a spicy note that aren't super deep and heavy. To that end, what sort of Summery recommendations does this crew have for... - Asphodel (mourn!) - Green Phoenix (mourn!) - Litha 2006 (mourn!) - Xiuhtecuhtli - Somnus Embalming Fluid really didn't work for me-- love it in the bottle, on my skin it goes a bit sour. I like citrus, lavender, and watery notes. I'm not very fond of rose, sandalwood, heavy musks, or patchouli.

Does anyone know of a BPAL scent similar to Terra Nova's Rain? Years and years ago, my oldest and dearest friend gave me a bottle of Rain oil from a local headshop called Tradewinds in a sandalwood box (A Box of Rain! We were Deadheads at the time, so this seemed particularly meaningful to us. Ahem.)... It was the first perfume I ever wore. Years later, I found the scent at Terra Nova and bought a bottle, and it transported me back in time. Ahhh! I still have that bottle, though it is gummy and a bit rancid. I was going to buy a new bottle, but would prefer to stay in the BPAL family, so if anyone is familiar with the scent and can think of a BPAL equivalent, I'd be thrilled. Unfortunately, my nose is too dumb to be able to describe any of the notes in the oil for those who are unfamiliar. The official description says "Its notes of green clover, lily of the valley and sheer musk create a sense of fresh, renewing clarity." Alas, since the Lab's search feature is down, I don't know how else to go about looking! Many thanks!

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Heya! I have a reaction to Candy Butcher, too, but only on my cleavage. On my neck or wrists, it's fine, but if I put in my cleavage, it turns FLAMING red and itchy. (attractive!). I also have this problem with Pumpkin Patch III, which has white chocolate in it, so perhaps there is something irritating about chocolate or cocoa. Hmmm.... -
I received Jazz Funeral as a freebie with a lab order and I'm thrilled because I never would have tried it otherwise. From the description, I imagined it to be thick and heavy and cloying, and having never smelled 'grave dirt' before, I imagined something rather cold and unpleasant. How delightfully wrong I was! This scent is remarkably clean and bright. Initially, it had almost a citrusy top note to it which muted after the drydown. The bay rum is most evident to me: I used to live in a neighborhood with many Dominicans, and in the summer the old men would sit outside playing dominos and you could smell the bay rum they used for aftershave. So this scent immediately transports me to summer (so much so that I don't know if I could wear it again until the weather changes!). It makes me think of St Louis Cemetery in New Orleans, where offerings of bay rum, liquor, candles and flowers are left outside the tomb of Voodoo priestess Marie Laveau; it has an almost mischievous quality which makes me think that Papa Legba would like it a lot! The bay rum also makes it a bit "cologney", and while I usually find this to make scents too masculine for me, in JF it just doesn't seem to hinder me. That being said, it is most certainly gender neutral and would be delightful on a man. The mossiness that others have noted hasn't hit me yet, but I've only had it on for a couple of hours. I look forward to seeing how it changes over the day, and I will more than likely buy a 5ml soon.
