I bought this bottle unsniffed, because I had seen some comparisons to Hope floating around...I LOVE Hope. I have a cherished decant of it. I had rose red, but sold it, because it went on really strong, and I never reached for it...not like I do with Hope. So when I saw this being compared, it was a no brainer! I am VERY happy I went for it. I can definitely see the Hope similarity, as it has the sweet rose element, but more than anything, once this reaches dry down stage, it reminds me of a "pink" version of Delight & Copnsternation! Or even Katrina Van Tassel! It's that sweet CREAMY rose element...it's gorgeous. I can also smell the hints of strawberry, which is where the "pink" comes from, and I love it! I do already have bottles of both KVT and D&C, but this is just different enough, that it's a welcome addition to my collection! Also, the rose in this, even though it says "rose sugar" in the description, smells like BPAL's White Rose note...the same that is in KVT and D&C. Try this is you like: Bon Vivant, Katrina Van Tassel, Delight & Consternation, Schlafende Baigneuse

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
sharkdiver replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Just out of curiosity, BPAL aside, what sorts of scents do you typically wear and like? do you go for more light ariy florals, aquatics, musks,? There is always a big temptation, when your new to BPAL to order the "most popular" scents...which makes sense, as they are popular for a reason! BUT...every single one of those scents will not work on someone. It all comes down to skin chemistry, and what notes your skin likes best - just because they are popular and well liked by many, they are just not right for you. The wonderful thing about BPAL, is that there IS a scent(s) for everyone! you just have to find it! as you buy/try imps, you should create a swap post in the swap section - anything that doesn't work out for you, list it. Then start browsing other people's swaps posts in the swap section to see if they have any imps they may want to swap with you for. I'd be interested to see what the list of all of the imps you ordered, and what the frimps were - I may be able to suggest some that might work! -
Yup. Was almost straight cinnamon on me. I was crushed because I also love marshamallow, but I don't care for cinnamon scent. The Gorobble was very cinnamon-y to me as well when it was fresh, but having aged it now for over a year...the cinnamon has mellowed WAY down, and now it is the gorgeous creamy marshmallow with a hint of cinnamon (more similar to Haunt's Cinnamon Girl with a bit more marshmallow) and a hint of smokiness. It's a great cold day comfort scent!

I'm wearing Stormclouds over the midway here - it's been raining all week here in Massachusetts!

Just adding that since my bottle of #OWS didn't have any cocoa sludge, I added a little bit of cocoa absolute to my bottle and Voila! BB's chocolatey sister! This was what I was hoping to get from OWS - initially, without the Cocoa abs., the patch was so strong that it started to turn furniture polish smell on me, like pledge... But with the addition of the cocoa, it stays a nice earthy sweet chocolatey patch...mmmm

If you can get your hands on Sugar plum fairy, it's my favorite fruity floral! SUGAR PLUM FAIRY Queen of the Kingdom of Sweets: sugar plums, vanilla-infused sugar, tiare, amber musk, apricot peel, and a light dusting of cacao.

fizzy, sorta carbonated, sparkling blends?
sharkdiver replied to bLissKite's topic in Recommendations
I will also second Last Year's Bat's day Vespertilo Proterus - which smells like a gingerale float! (gingerale and vanilla ice cream!) the fizziest scent I've come across is the Labyrinth blend, Goblin Cider. It smells exactly like the Angry orchard Ginger Apple hard cider tastes!! so good! -

My summer time favorite: glittering apple of the stars Blossoms in springtime Elegba Green Tree Viper Silver Haired Bat snow white white rabbit Yha-Nthlei Philologus -
This is amazing! the dry down on this is what I imagine Katrina Van Tassel to smell like, though I never actually tried that one! Wet in bottle: vanilla custard with a hint of cocoa (I do have just a tiny bit of cocoa absolute/sludge in my bottle, but not a lot.) wet on skin: Vanilla Custard dusted with a subtle cocoa, with a hint of lemon peeking out around the edges...this is really pretty! Dry: this is stunning - I normally avoid most rose notes, because rose really amps on me to holy hell, but I hadn't yet tried one of the lab's white rose notes. As this dries, the white rose blooms beautifully on the skin, and it's not IN YOUR FACE ROSE! the vanilla and custard back up the white rose to make it this gorgeous CREAMY sweetened white rose, and the skin musk balances it all out to get this stunning perfumy (but not overbearing in any way) sweet, creamy white rose blend. It has a light throw on me, and stays close to the skin, but it's lasting pretty well so far! I applied it at 8:15 am, and it's still going strong at 9:30am, so that's promising! I can't stop huffing my wrist!! The cocoa and the lemon blossom seemed to disappear as it dried on me.

This, with a side of Mahogany.

is all I have to say about Cottonmouth. ...no it's not. It's amazing. it smells very light and "white" innocent floral in the bottle, but not overbearing in any way (and I am not much of a floral person, unless it's a "floriental") wet on skin: that same very innocent CREAMY white floral - still very light, not "heady" - this is stunning. Dry - This is a beautiful creamy/vanilla floral - I get mostly lindenblossom, and maybe some Narcissus, I can't pick out the Calla Lilly specifically, it's very well blended...the only other scent I can compare this to, even they don't smell alike, but has a similar feel would be to Antique Lace...it has that creamy vanilla very light floral...this is absolutely gorgous! It lived up to the hype for me!

OMG...this is gorgeous! I was a bit weary of every trying this, because I had read some reviews that the pine was a strong player, but I am happy to say that's not my experience with this blend at all! Wet on Skin: The woodsy patchouli is a major player, that is quickly tamed and sweetened by the honey - not much else for me at this stage dry: as this began to dry down, The honey kept the Patchouli in check, and the Tobacco came out to say hello. The vanilla added sweetness along with the honey, and kept the honey as a nice sweet innocent honey, not a stinky BO kind of honey like in O. The smokiness in the vanilla also peeked out, but I never really got the pine at all - which I am happy about! If it's there, it was so far in the background, that I didn't even notice it. LOVE this. This just blasted it's way into my top 10 right near Banshee Beat!

The description is spot on with this one! at first it's WHOA BUBBLEGUM! the sticky sugary sweet Bubblicious kind - then I do get a cherry-ish/citrus note as the bubblegum starts to tone down, and it dries down to a youthful girly perfume somewhere akin to Love's Baby soft! I was not expecting to like this at all, and I definitely couldn't wear it everyday, but I think I'll really enjoy this when I'm feeling nostalgic for my childhood! ...I can almost hear Winger's "She's only Seventeen" when I sniff this...

This is really nice! It's a soft warm sensual cinnamon, not a burning hot clear your sinus cinnamon. The Cinnamon overshadows a lot of the other notes in this blend on my skin, but I can see the vanilla adding a touch of creaminess (though it doesn't stand out as VANILLA) The Myrrh adds a hint of resiny woodiness that just rounds out the whole blend and keeps it really soft and warm. I'd rate this 3.5/5 - I'll keep my imp, but I don't need a bottle.

This is stunning - such a bright cheery zesty scent - it smells spot on of peeling a Mandarin orange. I am looking forward to laying this with a bunch of other blends!

For fresh mowed grass, you want Thunder and Blazes if you can find it, from Carnaval. Or "A Blade of Grass" which, for me at least, is nothing but perfectly chlorophylly green cut grass. THIS. I would say for the carmex lipbalm, look for blends that have Beeswax as a note - since carmex smells like beeswax to me! Maybe like "Lights of mens lives, or Candles Moon...

I haven't tried Drink Me, but Eat Me doesn't work on me either. I was disappointed. Have you tried Clockwork Couture: Male? (Leather, vanilla-infused sandalwood, East Indian patchouli, bitter clove, galbanum, and iron filings.) It's not super easy to find now, but I think easier than Female, anyway. I haven't tried that one!! Another one to add to my hunt for list! Banshee beat is my favorite vanilla , in my opinion, it is THE BEST vanilla scent ever!! Lol! Dolly kei is one is DESPERATELY want to try! A vanilla tabacco amber!!!??!! *swoons* Dolly Kei is amazing...it smells (on me) very similar to Antikythera Mechinism, but better - it's definitely in the same family! so far, my favorite BPAL vanillas are in Snake Oil, Black Opal, and Banshee Beat - Detestable Putresence was AWFUL and smelled burnt on me Love's Phiolosophy was nice, but a bit too foody Boo was too Buttery Rum Soaked French Tonka, again, heavier on the rum, and less on the vanilla Madagascar Vanilla Rum - again, heavy on the rum, light on the vanilla, but better than the Tonka, Methinks. Dorian - Pretty close but the tea and citrus also fight for the center of attention Banshee Beat - Can I get a SN of this vanilla please?? Snake Oil - swoon would also love a SN of this vanilla!! I wonder if it's the same one in BB? Black Opal - Beautiful crystaline vanilla - very light, but beautiful. Perilous Parlour - a "musky" vanilla, very pretty for the summer, but again, the pear note takes half the glory. Antique Lace - we seriously need to get this back. Silver Haired Bat - Is a Benzoin-y vanilla - a little powdery, and resiny. Death Cap - see silver haired bat Bourbon Vanilla Bath Oil - LOVE!!! has a sassafrass note, but like Banshee Beat, to me, it just compliments the Vanilla beautifully!! I want a perfume Oil of this SOOO bad! Midway - some get vanilla salty/sugary, I get foody fried vanilla. I like it, but it's not my favorite.

Frankincense, Myrrh, and Rose Petal Beads Bath Oil
sharkdiver replied to stellamaris's topic in Thermae
This is beautiful and actually pretty light! The rose petals are definitely present, but it's not a strong ROSE! it's softer rose petal scent if that makes sense, and it smells like Church incense mingled with it! It's very wearable, and leave a light rosy/incense scent on your skin, and doesn't overpower you in the bath. -
This was reallydifferent! Usually, anything with red musk AMPS red musk on my skin - with this, I smell the red musk strongly in the bottle, and it almost smells similar to Third charm...then, when I apply it to my skin, the red musk tones way back - not gone, but very muted, and allows the rose to come further up front...there is also an powdery/ambery/incensy kick - which must be from the Black musk. I don't detect much leather, but I think it helps keep the rose and black musk in check. Love this!! very different from Snake Oil!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
sharkdiver replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
You may also want to grab imps of Obatala and Elegba - they have that coconutty suntan lotion vibe - one of them may be close! I also have the coconut vanilla bean and tiare hair gloss, it actually reminds me a lot of that older perfume "Sand and sable" - it's beachy, but in a tropical coconutty beach sand kind of way. I don't know how else to describe it. I would say obatala smells the most like Hawaiian tropic, but not sure if that smells anything like Australian Gold. worth a shot since it's GC and you can buy an imp! -
