    Requesting Recommendations for Newbie

What about fruity scents (Berries?) or vanilla? do any of those notes work on you? For you, if you *do* like Vanilla, I HIGHLY Recommend seeing if you can track down at least a decant of Banshee Beat...it's amazing. Patchouli and vanilla. for imps you can buy straight form the lab, for you: Desire: The overwhelming agony of passion crystallized into a singularly dark and magnetic blend: bittersweet neroli, black patchouli and black musk, gilded by apple, bergamot, blood red rose, teak, and vanilla. Harlot: Based on a Romany incense blend reputed to induce sexual dreams: Somalian rose, Moroccan rose and Bulgar rose with a sultry dribble of cinnamon. Jezebel: Biblical witch, priestess of Astarte, and general troublemaker. A true role model for today's upwardly mobile Modern Woman. A gloriously decadent blend of honey, roses, orange blossom and sandalwood. Lucy's Kiss: Created to represent the essence of Bram Stoker's tragic heroine, Lucy Westenra. Seductive, wanton and deadly, but underscored with a soft, wistful innocense. The gentle scent of rose and a blend of Victorian spices. Spellbound: Perfectly enchanting! An irresistibly sexual, utterly rapturous blend of three roses, radiant amber, and sensual red musk. Lilith: Mother of Demons, Vengeful Fury, Darkest Seductress, Queen of the Djinn, Goddess of the Gate. Red wine, myrrh, black musk, and attar of rose. Alice: Curiouser and curiouser. Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot. Snooty Rose: Red rose, oud, plum, bergamot, and red sandalwood The little wooden Doll: Gently carved wood warm with a maternal love that reaches beyond death: rose-infused amber and soft golden sandalwood. Limited edition Yules (available now, but not as imps): Peacock Queen:In dramatic contrast to the soft innocence of Snow White and the dew-kissed freshness of her sister, Rose Red, this is a blood red, voluptuous rose, velvet-petaled, at the height of bloom. Haughty and imperious, vain, yet incomparably lovely to the eye, but thick with thorns of jealousy, pride and hatred. Pink Snowballs: A lighthearted winter scent: chilly vanilla rose snowballs! Dainty, soft, and certainly unfit for flinging! For your room mate: I'll second Anne Bonney No: 93 Engine: Balm of Gilead, benzoin, frankincense, balsam of peru, beeswax, saffron, galbanum, calamus, hyssop, mastic, lemon balm, and white sage. Cathedral: Venerable and solemn: the scent of incense smoke wafting through an ancient church. A true ecclesiatical blend of pure resins Damnation: The incense of a black mass, the perfume of perdition. White sandalwood, cedar, frankincense and swarthy vetiver. Penitance: Smell sanctified! A blend of pure, pious frankincense and graceful myrrh Cairo: The essence of holy Kyphi, beloved incense of the Egyptian Gods. El Dorado: Copal resin incense blowing through halls of dazzling gold Morocco: The intoxicating perfume of exotic incenses wafting on warm desert breezes. Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia. (this is just an awesome scent...one of you should give it a try...it gets even better as it ages!) Sri Lanka: Indian sandalwood and cedar, and the dry incense smoke of olibanum, gum mastic, patchouli and myrrh. Limited edition Yule (available now, but not impable): Midnight Mass: This perfume is a traditional Roman Catholic sacramental incense, most often used during a Solemn Mass. Traditionally, five tears of this incense, each encased individually in wax that has been fashioned into the shape of a nail, are inserted into the paschal candle. This is, of course, represents the Five Wounds of Our Risen Savior. Symbolically, the burning of the incense signifies spiritual fervor, the fragrance itself inspires virtue, and the rising smoke carries our prayers to God.

    CD: Misfortune Teller v3

Like Angelicruin, I like this proto better than the released version...It's definitely more plummy, and I feel it's more of a balance of Plum with the red musk, where in the released it's like RED MUSK and oh hai! Plum. defintiely more of a stand out to me, since many of the blends containing red musk tend to smell very similar to me (I amp red musk though, so that's why!)

    The Bloody Banister

I have to agree with Gwydion and Strahlend - this starts out with a powerful Mahogany note and as it dries it turns sort of incensy/dragon's blood with the mahogany in the background - this is gorgeous, even my DH liked it. On me, it didn't smell manly at all, and the strong upfront mahogany note faded to the background within minutes...I really like this one, but I think my decant will be enough.

Using BPAL to negate the smell of death?

whatever you do, don't use U Mutter museum...I have a feeling, it would only intensify the smell! LOL

    Red Velvet Truffle Bath Oil

This is om nom nom! I definitely get Red Velvet cake from this - not so much the frosting, but definite cake! I used this as an in-shower moisturizer, and it left a subtle scent on my skin. I can see where the platic-y vibes other mentioned came from, because I noticed it had almost a high pitch almond/amaretto vibe at times, which I could see being confused with a plastic/artificial smell. Either way, I really like it, It's delish! I decided to layer this with Eat Me and Snow White - (this is my poor man's version of cake smash.)

Vol. 1 - Tricks & Treats Hard Candies

Ooo...these are delish! I am actually pretty blown away by how complex these flavors truly are...I was also a little skeptical, that the falvors could possibly be that complex, but they really are! Goulish - when I first popped it into my mouth, I instantly tasted a bit of the coconut flavor...as the pp's have mentioned, it does take a minute to "warm up in your mouth" for the flavors to start coming through, the cherry, which I agree, was not generic cherry flavored candy, but a definitive black cherry flavor with the hints of coconut peeking through, and as it continues to slowly melt, it seemed the amaretto and the saffron came forward more from the inner layers of the candy. the Saffron almost brought forward a creaminess to the flavor, and the amaretto was very subtle mixed in with the black cherry. Blue Pumpkin Floss: the blackberry popped forward when i first put it in my mouth, followed by a blast of...pumpkin pie!? how did they do that? I could taste the flavor of the pumpkin, as well as the nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice. as it continued to melt, the pumpkin pie flavor stayed in the for front, with the blackberry becoming more like an after taste. very unique! I would never have thought to pair these two flavors together, but they work! Autumn Cider - I agree with the others who said this is definitely more of a spiced/mulled apple juice than an apple cider flavor, though it is delicious! I can taste the butterscotch and the lemon zest (though the lemon zest is well behaved.) all together, the flavor reminded me of apples that were being slowly cooked down into applesauce with cinnemon, brown sugar, and a bit of butterscotch I think of the three, Goulish was my favorite, followed by a tie between blue pumpkin floss and Autumn cider - I liked those two equally, and they were so different, it's hard to compare! I am also now tempted by Confounding Confections's Etsy offerings, especially the Seafaring collection!

    Dead Leaves and Desolation Candle

This candle smells amazing!! to me, it smells slightly closer to October than Sonnet D'Autumne...
  11. Can anyone compare Mahogany hall atmo spray to Bloody Bannister?? are they at all similar? I love mahogany hall, and would love to find a BPAL oil equivalent!

Oil Equivalents of the Bath and Massage Oils?

I fell hopelessly in love with Aunt Rosie's Cephalapod bath oil from Dragon Con, and I was wondering if anyone knew if there are any BPAL Oils that smell like this, or very close that I could layer it with? If there aren't any, the lab should seriously consider making one! this smells like Heaven!!! It would be one of my holy grail scents!

    Sugared incense

Just thought I would mention - if you layer SN Siberian Musk over Midwinter's Eve - it smells very similar to temple Viper and the like!

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Here is part of my review from 2006 - "This scent brings up so many images and memories. The first thing that I smell is the wood note, perhaps cedar. It reminds me of a church, but not a cathedral. It reminds me of the churches in the missions in Southern California. I can smell the San Juan Capistrano and Santa Barbara missions. It smells old, but not dusty, just old wood, aged old wood. I can smell the incense notes behind it and it conjures up images of monks in prayer in earlier centuries. I also had an image of the woods down along the Little Sur River. I could smell the wood of the trees and the sweet smell of the leaves. The Big Sur area is like a cathedral of sorts." It doesn't have the benzoin and vanilla from EM and I haven't tried layering them yet. On its own, it's very different from EM, but it is one of my top 10 BPALs. If you can get your hands on silver haired Bat, that is pretty much benzoin and cedar on me - if you layered this with cathedral, it might get you closer! ... Or layer Banshee Beat with Cathedral to add the Van/Patch element. I've never smelled EM, but based on the notes and your descriptions, it might work! !

    #occupywallstreet

This on me smells just like banshee beat without the vanilla! I'm not getting much cocoa at all, so I actually might try layering this with Bliss...it has about the same throw on me as Banshee Beat (I should also mention, I just did a swap for this, so it's a few months old now - I would assume a little aging has helped it settle down)

    Shub-Niggurath

Omg...I just discovered the amazing ness that is shub!!! Holy crap!! I get lemon shortbread cookies and freshly baked gingerbread...I want to eat my arm right now!!! I definitely will pick up a big bottle of this once I use up my Imp!

    Pronouncing "BPAL" and scent names!

LOL, this just reminded me that I absolutely cannot wear this perfume oil without thinking of Stewie's Babysitter he had a crush on in Family Guy - Her name was "La Don" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTaCH5kDWAU It also never occured to me that I was probably pronouncing half of these names completely wrong! I always thought: Baobahn Sith was pronounced - Bay-o-bon sith (as in Revenge of the sith...lol) I also had NO CLUE that samhain wasn't pronounced "Sam-Hayn" I'm one of those uncultured Americans...

    Siberian Musk

I can't wait to try Siberian musk layered with Midwinter's eve! I am hoping SM will cut a lot of the sugary sweetness of MWE.

    Vespertilio Proterus

I love this blend - its very foody, and comforting. Wet: it's spicy fizzy ginger ale and cream Dry: as it dries, the ginger softens more and reminds me of a big scoop of French vanilla ice cream floating in a glass of ginger ale, but the ice cream has melted into the ginger ale, making it more of a ginger cream shake. The saffron is very mellow on my skin, and on me, just lends a very light perfume/resiny quality to the blend. If you like Love's philosophy, give this one a try!
  23. sharkdiver

    Boomslang v2

I have to agree with Milo - this version definitely seemed more creamy milk-chocolate and snake oil vs. cocoa powder (that my skin pretty much ate on contact) and snake oil. I think this version is much more wearable IMO, though when I am more in the mood for rich resiny blend, I would reach for the released version

    Silver-Haired Bat

OMG...so glad I managed to get my hands on this! This smells amazing! Mostly on my skin, the Benzoin amps - this is like a very lightly resinous vanilla, the next strongest note I get is the cedar, which is really mellow alongside the Ambergris...I really don't get pepper at all. This scent just skyrocketed into my top 5 BPAL blends of all time!
  25. WHITE CHOCOLATE WITH LEMONGRASS, CORIANDER, AND ALMOND CREAM This smells SO GOOD! I love the white chocolate note, the lemongrass is also really nice when mixed in with this. To be honest, I am not sure what coriander smells like, but I don't detect anything (on my skin) other than the white chocolate and lemongrass - I can't pick out the almond cream Either, but as someone else mentioned, it may be just lending a bit more creaminess to the white chocolate. Either way, it's really well blended, and a super comforting scent. So glad I caved! (It also does NOT go plastic on me!) ETA: apparently Coriander are the seeds from the sample plant which is Cilantro - some people think the seeds (coriander) smells similar to cilantro (the leaves) but a bit more citrusy. I personally didn't smell anything close to cilantro in this, but it may have just been so subtle that it blended in with the lemongrass. The lemongrass is a very refreshing lemon, and has that "green" quality to it, it does not Smell like Lemon pledge. (at least, not in my opinion!) Id rate this one: 4/5 (I personally love foodie scents, and the white chocolate note is good enough to EAT!)
