There's only one that lists Bulgarian rose, and that's Seraglio. Here is the description: In long-ago Arabia, harem girls rubbed an herbal poultice formed from a blend of sensual, luxuriant herbs and oils onto their bodies to prepare themselves for the Sultan's pleasure. This lush, indulgent perfume is based on that ancient formula. Sweet almond and Mysor sandalwood enveloped by a heady veil of Bulgarian Rose, neroli, nutmeg, clove and orange peel. Mata Hari has rose, jasmine, and tonka. Other people will likely suggest Rakshasa or Spellbound, but those didn't work on me so I'm not a good one to ask. Viola has rose, lily, and sandalwood. Alice has the rose and bergamot, though a carnation spike that is harsh on some, invisible on others. Seraphim has rose and sandalwood and lily. I hear Old Venice is lovely too! I like Old London, but that's a very tea rose scent. Happy ordering! Let us know what you get!

A cooler is a good idea! Also those bags they sometimes have in grocery stores so your ice cream doesn't melt while you shop for your other things. ETA: Though this won't help you, Neko, is it ok to refrigerate BPAL's in such emergencies?

Snake Oil has something that smells cinnamony at first on me before the vanilla takes over, but that could be my imagination.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
starrykitten replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
O and Snake Oil cause pain and rashes. It's kinda too bad that those are such sexy scents, and then it's like "oooh, come hither, and look at my red blotchy chest that I can't stop scratching." Maybe there should be a little blurb on the lab site about which oils are known to be most irritating to people with sensitive skin? Or tips for people about wearing them, so non forumites can still enjoy everything? -
Burial began my love affair with juniper. I have difficulty grounding, and I don't like to smell too earthy. Burial is great for me because the juniper is almost aquatic, but still green. It makes me think of plants that grow right at the shoreline. The juniper is definitely the dominant element on me, so I find it hard to pick out the rest. It has good staying power, and it's a good scent for me to wear when I just need to get things done and not get stressed about it.

At first, Kali went on smelling kind of minty, almost like eucalyptus. I was hoping it would settle in, and then it did. The rose came out, but it wasn't a pure rose. It was rose that almost smelled velvety, and had been drizzled with the other notes, which I couldn't pick out. There's a myth about the goddess Kali dancing her consort to death. True to form, the scent lasted on me throughout a long party, and then I could still sniff it when I woke up. I felt like it actually got better with time, and hated to shower it away.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
starrykitten replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
I've been noticing that when I wear Snake Oil often I get a red itchy rash on my collarbone and cleavage. Despite my boyfriend's oh-so-generous offer to "massage" it I can't think how to improve it. Anybody have suggestions on coping with cinnamon-y scents? -
Wet: This is very soapy but somehow still compelling. Drying: The lily is still dominant and soapy. It's more of a laundry soap than just a bottle of hand soap though, very clean. Dry: I have no reason to like this as much as I do. It stays somewhat soapy throughout, but doesn't turn cloyingly powdery on me. Out of all the BPALs I've tried so far, Kostnice even lasted the longest, over 9 hours, and releases much more as my body warms up. It's a very calming, very pink-white scent. Flowers and soap, still. Makes me think of my mom putting freshly laundered towels on the grass to help them whiten.

You could also order some single note Vanilla Bean and add that in to touch up (or just oomph up) vanilla in any other scent.

Aureus!! It is a very warm glowing sandalwood bubble of incensy happiness!

Ah, man, for a minute you got my hopes up they would be.

Important info regarding shipping and emails
starrykitten replied to Doc Constantine's topic in Announcements
Not that this makes it any easier for you, but if it's only been several days, keep trying. They've been moving to a storefront where there isn't any internet connection, plus the person that usually answers emails is away, so things are moving slowly in terms of email (but seem to be moving slightly quickly when it comes to orders, though the update could slow that.) Can you get CC now to not cancel your order? I don't see what harm it does in the queue, especially since you'll just have to re-order and move back in the queue. If worse comes to worst and your order gets canceled, I would try paypalling the money, if possible, with an email about what happened and hopefully the Lab would be able to prioritize. -
Hmmm. What did you order? There are some scents that have been "backordered" because they were having trouble getting the supplies to make them. I know Persephone, O, Bordello, and Lady MacBeth have all been affected by this recently and there may have been others. It could just be that they're waiting for a certain thing.
-
Oooh, which reminds me, I don't remember if the lab charges your card at once or when it says "shipped." I was thinking the latter, but if what you said about CCNow is right, that would make it the former. Hmmm.

I have tried Spellbound, Snake Oil, and Persephone of that list. Spellbound on me has virtually none of the rose that people talk about. Persephone is wet like rain, but on me at least, both Persephone and Snake Oil are too warm for me to think of rain. I haven't tried it, but the limited edition June Gloom sounds perfect for that description!

There was a wee discussion about dilution here that might be of some help. I think a lot of it depends if the scent will last on your skin when diluted or not. I don't tend to dilute really light scents that fade fast as it is. I like diluting because then I can justify covering myself from head to toe in scent and not feeling as wasteful! I use apricot kernel oil in a dropper bottle, mostly because messing with amber dropper bottles and mixing scents and oils makes me feel like an alchemist.

Ok, CCNow is kinda funny. Check your status link. It will say Awaiting shipment for a few weeks. It will suddenly say status: Shipped instead. This doesn't mean that your order is shipped, just that the lab has downloaded it. It's waiting for them to download yet but they don't download the order/charge your card until they're ready to begin filling it. After it says "shipped," you should only have I would say, 2 weeks, at most to wait then. Brian said they're now 3 weeks behind, though that could change with big orders from the update, so plan for it to take longer and hope to be pleasantly surprised. So as hard as it is, join the rest of us impatient folk who just want to smell good fast and we can talk about how hard it is to wait. If in about 3 weeks, your status doesn't say shipped, then drop an email to the lab. If you're like me, you'll say, "but I just know MINE got lost! I'll just ask them about it so I know!" but keep in mind there are many who do that, so as hard as it is to wait, that can slow things down.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

Maybe you can isolate the one ingredient that does it, and have Beth customize a blend in which she replaces the culprit with something that smells similar? -
Rose Recommendations - which blend is for me?
starrykitten replied to Nadirah's topic in Recommendations
Oooh yes, I love Old London, and it actually has a surprising amount of staying power for a rose fragrance. -
Very bad BPAL joke of the day: Q: Why did the imp packaging change? A: Because they got bottlenecked! Yuk yuk.
-
I was going to PM Nella but I thought you all might have the same question or possibly the answers. How long will the "imp sale" go on? And exactly how limited are the limited editions? I was hoping to order mid-June as a little reward if I keep up my recently adopted healthy lifestyle so I don't want to miss out!

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
starrykitten replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
I am still waiting on my first BPAL order, so I can't testify to that, but the High John the Conqueror Oil I got from Mystic Curio smells wonderful with Silky Underwear. Oh, and Silky Underwear, to me, smells really close to some fancy ritual powder I paid a lot more for. Hooray!
