Ginger scents & the different types of ginger notes

I second the recommendation for Siren. It is a nice and fresh ginger ale scent on me.

I know there's no orange listed in the notes, but that's what I get from it. A very smooth orange with a hint of spice. As it dries down the sandalwood comes forward to mix equally with the not-really-orange scent. And there's a hint of sassafras to keep it just sweet enough. Occasionally I'd catch a whiff and think I was smelling some tea too (the chamomile I suspect). Overall it was a very smooth mellow scent that was perfect for work. I LOVE Sandalwood and this is a lovely one. It really reminds me of the retired Bath & Body Works aromatherapy Sandalwood Orange scent. I love that body spray but it fades mega fast. This is very similar but it's a tad sweeter and it's BPAL so automatically better . Throw is moderate and it lasted about 3 hours on me before I reapplied (but my skin tends to eat scents quickly and I enjoy reapplying frequently). I just might need a backup bottle of this. Score 9.5/10.

This was a very surprising scent to me. My notes from the first time I sniffed the imp say: "WHOA MUSK! Straight to the NO box!" (I avoid musks - at least I have till now) For some unknown reason I grabbed it tonight. Maybe it settled or my nose changed, but now (about a month later) I don't get that overwhelming musk from the imp. So I slathered it on. Wet it was frankincense and a smidge of leather and an almost aquatic fresh scent (the shining armor?) As it dried, my skin gobbled it up. It has almost zero throw on me. When I sniff my wrists I get a slight hint of musk now (and I don't hate it - shocking! Maybe white musk is ok on me (need to experiment with other musks)). I can pick out the sweet frankincense and almost a cedary scent. I guess it's the bourbon vanilla. That part of the scent reminds me a bit of Tombstone without the smoke. If I were blindly guessing notes, I'd guess that they both had cedar, vanilla and sassafras. I get no leather or armor at all when dry. This is sadly very very light despite slathering a lot on. It's got a freshness to it that I like. I give it a 5 or 6 out of 10. I like it and will enjoy the imp, but will save my bottle purchases for stuff my skin doesn't eat.

    The Reward of my Benevolence

Went out on a limb and bought a bottle unsniffed mainly because of the sandalwood and clary sage. I finally did a "real test" today (i.e. all day long at work, wearing only one scent). Freshly applied - a sweet strong rose perfumey scent. After it has dried about 30 minutes or so - up close to my wrist, it's a very heavy powdery rose floral. A little unpleasantly heavy but.... the throw on it is MUCH more delicate. The sandalwood gives it a lovely creamyness and the rose is very light and dainty. Something in there is lending an almost aquatic freshness to it, the clary sage perhaps (newbie nose here - sorry). Moderate throw. Hours later... Very soft but every once in a while I catch a whiff of something almost resiny/woodsy and fresh. Like it's just out of reach of my nose really grabbing onto it. Still don't like the scent when I smash my nose into my wrist though. Overall impression: a nice rose and I'll enjoy my bottle, but this one won't make it to my top 10. I like the other two rose scents I've got (Seraphim and Pink Snowballs) better for a rose "fix". Rating: 6.5/10.

    Yellow Snowballs

LOVE this one! The same creamy snow scent as Snow White but with a layer of creamy delicate citrus. Not too sharp, not overpowering (like happens with some citrus scents on me), & not cloyingly sweet. Just a hint of tart lemon peeking out from underneath a lovely freshness. The sweetness helps the citrus blend nicely with the vanilla snow. It's very fresh but yet still keeps the creamy vanilla tone. I didn't notice much change as it dried. I use the vintage style Jean Nate powder puff every morning and love that creamy lemon scent and kept wishing I could find a BPAL similar to that. Here it is. Not that this smells just like Jean Nate, but it has that same creamy citrus feel to it that I love. Yay! I was afraid this would be a frightening mix of citrus and mint which I'm not a fan of. But I get no mint at all from this really. Maybe it's hiding in the snow scent but my rookie nose can't find it. So I'm very pleased that it's not minty. I'm thinking I'm gonna need another bottle.

    Siren

I think I might have found my signature scent. I get a lovely creamy ginger cream soda scent from this one with enough tang to make it non-foody. I keep sampling all my little imps and wishing they had a little more vanilla, or a little more ginger, then I realize I'm wishing they were a little bit more like Siren. I don't get much overt apricot or jasmine but they are there in the background as lovely backup singers to the star that is Ginger! I love ginger. The scent doesn't morph much but becomes a bit smoother as the hours go by. I tend to eat all the scents I've tried so far (even when I slather) but this one has moderate staying power on me. It's gotten me my first BPAL compliment so yay! I don't do overly foody, or too flowery or anything with musk or heaviness, so this is perfection in an imp. Every time I've worn it I spend the entire day thinking "Man, I smell AMAZING!" I'm having to force myself to try my other imps cause all I want to wear is Siren. *Swoon*

    Belladonna

As soon as I applied this I thought perhaps I had mixed up the imps and applied Siren instead. I get the same sort of creamy ginger-ale scent from both of them while it's wet. It's a ginger-ish smell but without all the bite of ginger. A few minutes later it starts to mellow a bit and becomes a bit more herby and woodsy. Not a heavy wood, but fresh and light. Juniper? with a hint of pine perhaps. I still have a rookie nose so forgive me. Not terribly strong and has very little throw on me, but most of the BPAL's are that way on me so far. My skin seems to be eating it rather quickly, sigh. A lovely fresh slightly creamy woodsy ginger-ale-ish scent. I need to re-test and slather, but it's on the "like it a lot" list so far.
