    The Robotic Scarab

I received this as a frimp from the lab and looking at the notes it's probably not something I would have chose to try on my own.All I can say is it's really unlike anything that I've tried before. In the imp: Strangely it just smells sweet I can't really pick out the notes. Wet: Completely different. I really can't pick out any of the notes here it just smells like man. A very clean, well groomed and nice smelling man but it smells like a man. I think what I mostly smell is the metal notes and the lubricating oil note. It makes this smell like cologne but at the same time it's not like any cologne I've actually smelled before. Dry: Now that's just weird, it morphed and now it smells like leather and anise with just a faint hint of what ever it was that made it smell like cologne. It's basically like sweet cologne but I think the sweet part might just be my skin since it has this habit of amping everything sweet. Also it has more throw then just about any other scent I've tried and I didn't even apply all that much. Verdict: This is nice and definitely different. I think it would probably smell much better on a man then it does me. It's just far too masculine on my skin, even with the sweetness that I can't really place. If you like metallics and leather then this could be for you, however it's not for me and doesn't really seem to work well with my skin chemistry.

    Death Adder

I ordered a bottle of this unsniffed because dark coconut just sounds like the type of thing that is definitely me. I'm thinking I was right. In the bottle: VETIVER the capital letters are so you know it's screaming at me. Really screaming which makes me a little scared. Is Death Adder going to break my heart? Wet: VETIVER but VETIVER after it's been on a very long sugar binge. My skin tends to amp up anything sweet and this is no exception. For a good five minutes it's like a very intense WWE death match between VETIVER and the coconut and vanilla. Dry: After the five minute death match it seems the coconut and vanilla ended up whipping vetiver into shape so now he no longer needs all capital letters. Don't get my wrong the vetiver but it decided to sit down and shut up thankfully and after about 10 minutes it's all but gone leaving only a hint here or there of it's existence. The end result is lovely, it's sweet, slight spicy and just a little dark. Verdict: Yes Death Adder I think I love you. However that opening stage is a bit terrifying so I'm hoping if I age you, you'll behave just a little better and our relationship will be all the better.

    Black Lotus

Perhaps I was craving similar scents with out really knowing it when I placed my last order, however it wasn't really my intention to order two scents that were as similar as Black Lotus and Bastet seem to be on my skin. I actually ordered this because I really happen to like the way Lotus smells on my skin. I knew I was taking a risk because this blend contained amber but much like Bastet this amber actually works with my skin chemistry. I suspect it's the combination between the amber and the myrrh that makes the amber wearable but whatever the case may be more of this please. In the imp: It smells like lotus, just lotus. Wet: Lotus, amber and myrrh. Very pretty but the amber and myrrh seem to make it nearly identical to bastet on my skin, except for the fact that the lotus is gives it a creamier floral edge. Dry: Again a creamy version of Bastet on my skin and I can say this for sure since I'm wearing that on the other arm. I can actually smell the sandalwood though and that does give the sent a different vibe. If it makes any sense at all it's a much cooler blend then bastet, it's also a tad sweeter on my skin and lacks the general spice that bastet has. Still they're very close. Verdict: I love the overall vibe of the labs Egyptian blends on, something in them just seems to adore my skin and make them feel magical. However with the extreme similarity of Black Lotus to Bastet I probably won't be buying a bottle of Black Lotus. It's lovely but it isn't really a strong lotus scent on my skin which was what I really wanted. I'll definitely keep the imp though.

    Bastet

I've actually avoided ordering this because amber does really bizarre things on my skin chemistry. By bizarre I don't mean the turning to baby powder like it does on most peoples skin, no it likes to amp into some weird headache inducing monster that is both too sweet and too strong to want any where near my nose. This phenomena isn't exclusive to bpal, it's pretty much anything with amber ever. What is worse is I often receive perfumes and lotions with amber in it because it happens to be my namesake. It's actually quite saddening because I know it's supposed to be a pretty note but I've never been able to wear it however I broke down and ordered Bastet because everything else in it sounded so lovely that I had to give it a go. I am so glad I did because for the first time in my life I know what amber is supposed to smell like, and it smells amazing. In the imp: The only note I can really detect is the almond, which immediately reminded me of Dana O'Shee Wet: Really sweet, almond and amber but tempered by something else which I assume is the musk that keeps it from going too sweet into the cloying category. Dry: Whoa that changed quickly. It seemed as if the almond wanted to make a big appearance at the beginning but quickly lost all it's energy and disappeared completely. Instead I'm left with this sweet, slightly spicy, and incensey. I think the prominent notes now would be the amber, the musk, and the myrrh but it's hard to tell because this scent is incredibly well blended and balanced. Overall: The sent was vaguely familiar to me and it took me a second to realize this is exactly what Nuit would smell like on me with out the florals which is odd because I don't think the notes listed are all that similar and the only real connection that I can make is that they're both Egyptian deities. I actually happen to like it quite a bit better then I do Nuit since I don't always love wearing florals. This is what I've been wanting to smell like all along with out even knowing it. I'm definitely getting a bottle of this. This is the most rambling review I've ever posted so I apologize.

    Punkie Night

I've had this for forever really and never reviewed it because when I first bought it, it pretty much overwhelmed me with how powerful it was. I think it was the spice that did me in when I initially tried this but it's hard to say since it was so long ago. However now that it's aged I can enjoy it much more. In the bottle: Whoa apples and spice trying to assault me! Wet: It morphs pretty quickly on the skin as my skin seems to amp the spice a lot so at first I get spicy apples with just a hint of cranberry. Some time later it turns into apple cider on my skin which I think is my favorite phase it goes through. Dry: As it dries down the apple seems to start to fade towards the background so I get spicy cranberries instead but at this point the spice is also a bit more muted. Punkie Night seems like Samhain's sweeter, more playful younger sister and overall I think it fits me better so once fall comes around I'll probably be reaching for this a lot. I've been testing a bunch of things to see what I'm keeping and what I'll most likely sell or swap but this will definitely not be one of the ones to go.

    Gennivre, L’Artiste du Diable

It always surprises me when I think I've reviewed something and I have not. Then again I took a brief hiatus from the board for awhile so that might be why. Aside from that I've had Gennivre, L'Artiste du Diable for quite some time so I'm a little shocked to find I've never reviewed it because I wear it quite often. It's really lovely. In the bottle: It smells like tea, mint and lemon grass. On my skin wet: Much the same although the honey becomes more noticeable. Dry: honey and tea take the fore front and the lemongrass, sugarcane, and orange blossom seem to all blend perfectly in the background making it slightly sweet but not unbearably so. It doesn't last as long as a lot of my other perfumes but it is a really nice day scent and I find it's very mellowing much like a good cup of tea.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Thank you! I'll have to try that since I'm pretty sure that it's the cinnamon leaf in it that I love so much. Besides I like almond and it tends to work on my skin. Some how that didn't even come up in my original search. strange

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

So here it goes. I know this a long shot because I don't think anyone else wears this perfume but the only commercial perfume I still hold on to is Moschino's I love love. I did a search and the description is as follows: "Spontaneous blend of bright citrus, followed by sexy yet feminine florals, smoothing off to cinnamon leaves, woods and musk." So I did a note search on the website and the list is unbelievably long. I don't even know where to start. Does anyone know anything that smells like it (if you've never smelled it I've been told it's very similar to Dolce and Gabana's light blue) Thanks for your help

    Black Moon

In the bottle it's very strongly floral and almost overwhelming which made me nervious but I bit the bullet and put it on. Gorgeous, Gorgeous, Gorgeous. I'm seriously in love with this. I know I smell Jasmine but this is the lightest jasmine sent I've ever worn. Usually jasmine is a dominating note although on my chemistry it doesnt overwhelm most of the time just makes itself known. I think the lotus is what really seems to like my skin here though and while on some people it goes all bubblegummy or candish I don't get that reaction at all, it's a sweet almost creamish smelling floral which I really enjoy. the cucumber and the pear seem to be sitting nicely in the background just adding sweetness. I don't get any orchid or musk which is a little weird but it's so pretty I'm not complaining. I love this but I almost think it's too pretty for everyday wear. It's something you would wear to dress up. It will make you feel all exotic and beautiful. This is by far my favorite floral. edited: because I can't spell

    Bewitched

I'm suprised that I didn't write a review for this before but here goes nothing. I love berries, I love tea but I wasn't really sure about the sage or the musk. In the bottle it's all berries, infact when I got this out of my box it was all I could smell over all the other imps in my pack. On my skin it seems to mellow out. It stays mostly Berries and Tea which makes me happy the musk and the sage stay in the background just keeping the sent from becoming too sweet and fruit. This is perfect, I can't wear it all the time because the berries are so loud but I really love it and will reach for it often.

    Masquerade

So this is one of those things where I got it free and set it aside because of a note I didn't care for when I opened the Imp. Then I got brave and thought, oh I will try this maybe the patchouli won't hate me and go on all strong. Yeah I was wrong and I can see why a lot of people really love this. I think I like Ambergris though and I know I like orange blossom though I smell no carnation. Had there been no patchouli I probably would have really liked it but as it is it's just not for me. I'm not a patchouli person so this imp will be finding a new home shortly.

    Mata Hari

I got this one as a free imp from the lab andI was in no rush to try this on as roses and I seem to have an ongoing battle. However every time I opened the imp I smelled coffee and it was strangly tempting me. Not that I wanted to smell like coffee but I wanted to see how it progressed. So I caved and put it on. These roses like me and strangly I hardly smell rose at all. I do smell Jasmine but me and Jasmine have always been friends. I also think I smell the coffee but only faintly. I don't smell fig but I do smell Vanilla. I'm going to have to test this one out more then once as it's so complex but I think this might be my new favorite floral. It's lovely.

    Water of Notre Dame

Water of Notre Dame smells weird on me. Not unpleseant but very aquitic, and some how salty, it really smells like tears on me it's so weird. I don't know but I don't dislike it it's strangly comforting but at the same time a little sad. Or that's just how it feels on me. It does it's job though it really soothes your nerves when you need it. Maybe almost two well because wearing it made me want to curl up and take a long nap.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

I found Eat Me too foody for me and I like Foody although I don't remember it being all that vanilla I remember it smelling a bit like frosting and on my chemistry there was something kind of musty underneath not my favorite. But if you don't like foody vanilla's but are looking for a good non-foody vanilla I'd suggest black opal. It's not at all Foody and I think it smells devine. (although strangely the first time I tried it it was overwhelming I think I was having an off day because I've loved it ever since the second time I tried it.)
  15. I say black opal, it's light enough for day time wear and it's the only scent I've had where a guy (the one I happen to crush on) leaned over to sniff me. It was pretty hot.
