    Little Flora

Oh, oh, oh...Peony!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally, it's a peony that works on me!! I get no cream, no spice, it's just about a single note peony on me, which makes me exceedingly happy! It doesn't morph much, just beautiful, beautiful peony!

    Ladon

How did I not review this? I *adore* Ladon. I get fresh, juicy apple, with hyacinth (one of my all time favorites). This is one of my all time favorite spring scents, because of the hyacinth. (Why don't I have more hyacinth blends?) Dragon's blood resin is always good with me anyway, so this one is pure win!

What do bottles and labels look like?

Yes I was wondering too, what year did the Lab change label styles?

    Tamora

I just received this as a frimp with a forum purchase from a darling forumite who stalked my wishlist. The only note I wasn't sure about in this one was the heliotrope. In the imp: Lovely! fruity/floral/golden As I was putting it on I got one whiff of something tangy/medicinal, but it was gone in about half a second. On me, this is delightful. Golden vanilla and sandalwood dripped over peach blossom. I need a bottle. This will be perfect for summer. Sillage seems pretty good, too. I didn't slather by any means, but I'm getting whiffs when I move my arms.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

I just had someone on my Facebook tell me that if I found a dupe for Jovan's Andron that she'd "love me forever", So I thought I'd see if anyone knew of one or might suggest something from the notes: I got this from the Basenotes site. Jovan Andron: Top Notes Fresh, Green and Citrus Middle Notes Sandalwood, Patchouli, Woody Notes Base Notes Civet, Musk, Ambergris, Castoreum, Androstenol [Pheromone] Ringing a bell for anyone?

    Morocco

OMG this is incredible on me! Incredibly good, that is. I received this as a swap, and one I wasn't too certain about, actually. It wasn't on my wish list at all. I get the exotic spices, but with a sweet tinge. No carnation, just beautiful sweet spices, with maybe a slight dusty feel. It really does make me think of a Moroccan marketplace/exotic locales. Just gorgeous. I'm going to do a side by side of this and Snake Oil - but from my memory, this is a bit sweeter than Snake Oil (even without the vanilla, odd...), and not as peppery as Snake Oil is on me. I adore both of them.

    Purple Spotted Swallowtail

I bought this from a forumite on the strength of the plum and berries notes... I've had it for awhile but this is the first chance I've had to test it. At first, I get a blast of lime, over something very drugstore-perfumey. I was prepared for this from previous reviews so I waited... The lime wears off pretty quickly, but then I'm left with the drugstore perfumey. No plum, no berries. Dammit! I really wanted this to like me!

    Dana O'Shee

This was on my bottle list, so I was VERY excited to get an imp of it with an Etsy order I placed. In the imp: Oh dear...this isn't milk, honey, OR grains..it's fake cherry something??? (the almonds, maybe? Oh I hope not...) I went back and checked the imp label. Thinking it couldn't be THAT bad, I swiped some on, knowing that my skin chemistry has made successes out of dismal failures in the bottle/imp before. First five minutes...still fake cherry - no milk, no honey, no grains ....ick. So disappointed. After it finally dried, the fake cherry went away, and now it's more of a cherry blossom, but it's still a lot sweeter than I normally like, and I thought I'd developed a taste for sweet since I'd started BPAL. One less on the bottle list, I guess?

    Eden

This is divine! When I put it on today,at first it was strong enough to nearly knock me over. And it was giving off wafts of heavenly fragrance every time I moved my arms. But the dry down? Oh My....it is SO GOOD. I get mainly fig and honey with the sandalwood grounding it all. Maybe a faint hint of coconut. It is what I wanted, and so much more! And Circaea, now I want Eat Me and Dana O'Shee even more than I already did! They're both on my overflowing Wishlist.

    The Dormouse

I was so looking forward to this one! Unfortunately, me and the Lab's peony note don't appear to get along. Everything I've tried with that note (most notably Lady in Pink Speckled Kimono), all I get out of it is dirt. I have NO idea why, but it breaks my heart. So, this one was lemony tea and dirt on me - but hopefully I'm the only one with that particular kink in her skin chemistry. ETA: Retest. I kept reading the scent notes and thinking, "Why didn't this work on me?" So I came back and read my previous review (above). I pulled the imp out of my swap pile to retest it, and this time it's different! I still get a good blast of lemon (or lemongrass) when it's wet, but no dirt this time! And as it dries, the peony and teas come out to play (I never got even a hint of either one, last time). It is very light, as other reviewers have said. But it is also very feminine, and I may now have to have a bottle.

    Snake Oil

A very sweet forumite took pity on me when I mentioned that I had never tried Snake Oil, and sent me a well-aged decant. I found out extremely quickly that a tiny, tiny bit goes a long, long, way! On me, Snake Oil lives up to the love it gets. Sweet, dark, spicy, amber-y incense. I wore it for several hours yesterday and it dries down to spicy amber on my skin, which is delicious. The first hour or so, though, it's pretty strong, no matter how little I dab on. I do love the wafts of scent I get every time I move my arms, though. I don't see this being an every day scent for me, I prefer something lighter during the day. But for evenings when I want to feel like a dark enchantress - this will be my go-to. I can also see where this gets the love when layered with O. I'm going to try that, though I'm afraid the honey in O may tip it to the "too sweet" side.

    Villainess and BPAL

*drools* for a Pieman oil. Maybe next year, Brooke says.

    Villainess and BPAL

I haven't smelled Neisthai, but IMO, Jai Mahal does not smell anything like Snake Oil. I find it to smell like sweet, a little boozy, cardamom wood. I love the way that Brooke does wood, resins and smoke and I have most of her extraits with those notes. Thanks for the reply! I have a sample of Jai Mahal on the way. Looking forward to Brooke's take on the concept. I have yet to actually try Snake Oil (and I've been here since October, don't shoot me! ), so I was just curious if I was going to get a taste of it via Jai Mahal. Guess not, but that's ok - Snake Oil is already set as part of my next BPAL order.

    Villainess and BPAL

I'm a recent Villainess fan. Only I love the Extraits more than the soaps. I guess I've been using body wash too long. Anyway, reading through this thread has been extremely informational - for example now I know why I fell so completely in love with Trauma at first sniff - I'm a big fan of Imp. Also, if Neisthai smells ANYTHING at all like Glasgow, it'll be on my next Villainess order! Glasgow is one of my all time BPAL faves. If this is a not allowed question or just plain stupid, let me know, but is Jai Mahal anything at all like Snake Oil?

    Jareth

I had serious reservations about Jareth, after reading all the reviews comparing it to Dorian, because Dorian HATES me. I can definitely tell similarities between the two fragrances, but Jareth doesn't go nasty on me like Dorian did. It's still too masculine for me to actually wear, but it isn't bad at ALL, and I really do like the leather note in this. Another one to make Chris try.

    13 Hours

Wow, how did Beth DO that? Stone in perfume form...intriguing. Anyway, in the imp and wet on me, it is mostly rose hips and ivy. I was thinking, "Oooohhh lovely..." And then the stone came out to play. Wow, yep, that's stone all right! When it's dry and it's had time to sit awhile it's pleasant - rosehips and stone, slightly sweet, but pretty masculine smelling on me. I'm going to make Chris try it, I think it'll smell delicious on him.

    Io

I bought this bottle from a forumite *waves at Gateau*. When I received it, and smelled it in the bottle I was afraid it was going to go all "Jolly Rancher" on me, like Midwinter's Eve did. (For those not in the US, Jolly Rancher is a brand of fruit hard candy). Wet - uh oh - very tart and candy-ish. But I think it was the red musk to the rescue, because it dries down to a lovely complex musky fruity blend. I really like this and glad I have the bottle!

    Depraved

I can't get it off either, after scrubbing with dish soap! I was told, "Don't fear the patchouli", when I received this as a frimp. And it was a good guess on the frimper's part, as I love apricot/peach/fruity. But I never got any fruit, it's alllll patchouli, all the time. And apparently patchouli doesn't like me. Or I don't like it. Or the feeling is mutual. Because NO. Just...no. Wow. And as an item of note, this is only one of a handful of BPAL's I've had to go wash off. Or try to wash off. It's STILL HERE!!!! Ack.

    Maenad

I received this as a frimp from a swap with a forumite. In imp: Sweet but not bubblegummy or fake, slightly tropical Wet on me: Here come the florals, still mixed with sweet fruit, though Drying: It's a morpher on me. One whiff I'll get fruit, the next flowers. I like... Yummm. I think I might need a bottle of this...

    Glasgow

I ordered this as part of an imp pack. I should have gotten a bottle, unsniffed! This is heavenly, on me. Wet, I get blackberry and something green - the heather? On - I don't know what it is, exactly. It's like a just almost-ripe blackberry, but with a floral-y sweetness to it. All I know is I can't stop huffing my wrists! This is very light and refreshing on my skin, and I will be ordering a bottle for spring and summer wear, ASAP. It makes me feel cool and refreshed just sniffing my wrists, something that might come in very handy when it's really hot out!

    The Fairies

Purchased unsniffed, even though the huckleberry wine note concerned me. SO GLAD I did. This is now a favorite. Wet, I get apple blossom and apple. Yummm. On, it blends out into a gorgeous light spring-y floral/fruity blend. Perfect for spring wear. It's a very fresh fragance - I'm still catching some apple, but it's a very light apple, and mixed with blossoms and greenery. LOVE this.

    Blooming Rose

Another unsniffed bottle, because I missed Lupers decant circles. I decided to take a chance on a few. This one I'm very glad I did. It's a very dewy pink, light rose, with some lilac when wet in the bottle. Wet on skin, and dry, the rice flower kicks in and makes this into a very smooth, light, beautiful floral blend. It doesn't scream any one note, it's just a beautiful spring-y light floral. I love it, and am very glad to have a bottle of it.

    Lady in Speckled Pink Kimono

Ordered a bottle unsniffed, because I missed Lupers decant circles. Wet, in bottle - musty, dusty vanilla. I didn't panic, though, I figured it'd change once it was on, me, so... Wet, on skin - dusty dirt and vanilla. No peony. Dry, on skin - dusty dirt and vanilla. STILL no peony. I really can't complain, out of five unsniffed bottles, this was the only one that didn't work on me. Cursed skin chemistry fail. I wouldn't even be as disappointed as I am, if it wasn't for the fact that I've wanted a peony scent for YEARS. *pout*.

    O

Fresh lab imp of O - just received! O is the first one I skin-tested from this batch, and that's saying something, because I had 12 ordered imps and 17 frimps in this batch!! Plus 9 bottles including some unsniffed Shungas. (17 frimps, OMG ). Wet: Vanilla honey, but without the musty/dusty smell I sometimes get from honey - nice, but not exciting Drying: More amber coming out - beginning to like this more and more... Half an hour - Very well blended amber, honey, and a touch of vanilla. A very warm, comforting scent for me, I see me wearing this a lot in the winter, actually, and as OctoberGwen said above, it'll be great for layering. Don't know about a bottle just yet, but I can see why it's a staple in a lot of people's collections.
