    Knecht Ruprecht

This is a beautiful warm, golden scent. There is a touch of Christmas tree in there, cold air (minus the snow), and almond. The almond is too strong for me to wear this, but I am glad that I tried it out.

    Midwinter's Eve

2005 Version: This scent is burgundy and sweet. It dries down almost to a mulled wine scent, but still with lots of sugar. This reminds me of plum fairies and sweet hard candies.

    Skadi

The thing I love most about Skadi is that the berries and pine cut right to the heart of the slushy snow note. I love the presence of the snow, no doubt about it, but I find that the berries and pine create a nice counterbalance to the aquatic qualities of the snow. This has a perfect duality and a perfect frosty winter goddess feel to it. I will cherish every last drop.

    Poisson d'Avril

This is springtime indeed! I get a mishmash of springtime florals in bright, vivid colors. There's a touch of green stem in there, but otherwise it's all soft florals. None of them go perfumey on me, nor too strong, nor too powdery. Just right.

    Monster Bait: Underpants

Saffron and sandalwood sit just below the surface of a lot of creamy vanilla. It's lickable indeed! I do love this one. It's not quite as overwhelmingly foody and it's a tad sexy and cheeky (ha ha) indeed.

    The Darkling Thrush

This is very much a BPAL-snow scent: white and slushy and aquatic with a hint of mint or cucumber or whatever it is that gives their "snow" such a characteristic scent. Below that I get a hint of depth and wintry darkness. The amber is very nice, but not as resinous as I expected. It mixes strangely with the pine, otherwise I'd be keeping this without a doubt. I'm very glad I tried it, though. If you like snow scents this is a good one to check out.

    Ice Queen

I get mostly pale flowers with lots of snow, no fruits to speak of. I do think this is really pretty but I think that I will pass my hard-earned imp of it on to someone that will love it more.

    Pumpkin Queen

I have to say that Pumpkin Queen ruled the entire Halloween 2006 update. I gambled on her because aside from Pumpkin King I have not been able to wear anything else with pumpkin; they're all just too buttery. Pumpkin Queen is regal and pround, feminine, commanding. There is just the right amount of spice and heat and resins and redness to the pumpkin. My favorite part in this is the red ginger. Whenever I wear Pumpkin Queen, I can't stop sniffing myself. LOL!

    The Carpathian Mountains

This is a cool pine, with deep juniper and snow and cool sharp mountain air that bites at your lungs. It almost has a menthol quality to it, but not so much that it becomes medicinal. I like to wear this during the fall, but I really like wearing it during those dark November nights when winter is approaching and the weather has turned cold.

    Et Lux Fuit

The light at the end of the tunnel appeared in my life (after a rough 2 years), right when this scent was released. It's meaningfulness to me was not altered by the scent. It is perfect and I was not let down! This scent is all about celebration, comfort, well-being. It is light and sparkly. It makes me feel hopeful. As far as actual notes go, they seem to morph together into one gestalt. I know if I worked at it that I could pinpoint the individual notes but no single one jumps out and me and so I am content to let this be an overall scent about well-being, hope, and the emergence from hardships.

    Voodoo Queen

Voodoo Queen is incense-spicy, resinous. It is regal and magical. Strong. Commanding. It reminds me of dusty shelves of magick books and occult shops that you can only find if you are told about them by someone who knows. Amazing! I am in complete awe of Voodoo Queen.

    All Souls

All Souls is mostly cake on me, with a touch of dark and smoky incense that wafts over it. This is perfect for the first hour, but then the resins from the incense turn slightly bitter and dry. This is almost perfect for me, but my skin chemistry messed up the ending.

    Sugar Cookie

I get lemon-vanilla cookies from this. Especially the lemon. But after a while it softens up and more of the cookie comes out, complete with lots of sugar!

    Thirteen (13)

This version of 13 smells like pure, smooth chocolate with a lovely hint of tangerine and currant. It reminds me of those orange-chocolate candies, or of fruit and chocolate liqueur. This wears very foody, and after it has been on my skin for a while the chocolate turns into WHITE chocolate! Lovely!

    Enraged Bunny Musk

This is a pure breath of fresh springtime! It is neither too floral, too soapy, to aquatic, too anything! It is soft and fluffy and oh so very comforting. I get a "pink-white" scent to this and I am hoarding multiple bottles of it.

    Creepy

Creepy smells like a deliciously perfect caramel apple. I can almost detect the stickiness of the caramel. There's a touch of cool, windy autumn nights to go with the foody aspect of this. This is a keeper!

    Punkie Night

Punkie Night is very juicy: it is red and smacks of juicy apples and autumn. This is a warm scent with a touch of spice to sit on top of the apples. Lovely! To me this scent heralds autumn, but as autumn progresses I will probably reach for some deeper, darker autumn scents.

    Monster Bait: Bloody Mary

This is a cherry-vanilla scent, a thick creamy dessert with gobs of deep red fruits and a touch of cherry liqueur. After a while the powdered sugar comes to the forefront of things and stays there for the duration of the scent. The cherry-vanilla is still there, no doubt about it, but it sits under a smattering of powdered sugar. How on earth did Beth make it smell like powdered sugar?? I can't believe how amazing this is! I was intrigued by the notes in this, but wary of the cherry. It doesn't disappoint. There's something about this that's almost addicting and very comforting. LOVE IT!

    The Gibbous Moon

The Gibbous Moon is a gorgeous, cool moon scent with lunar oil qualities. In the bottle this smells wet and bright green. There's something almost grass-like that sits on top of the florals. On application my skin turns this into a glistening cool cucumber scent with a side of night flowers. LOTS of cucumber. It stays like that for about 20 minutes, at which point the hyacinth and lily become prominent. The floral are sort of soft and unassuming; they are there but they are definitely night flowers, hidden in shadows yet whose petals are illuminated by the soft moonlight. This has an average throw and a good wear-length on me. I think this is the perfect scent for wearing in the period of time before or after a full moon. I am definitely going to keep this one around.

    The Sportive Sun

The Sportive Sun smells like the color of fire. It is hot; orange, yellow, red. I don't think that is merely because of the power of suggestion from the label art. It really smells fiery and warm. In the bottle I smell amber and florals with a touch of dryness. On my skin I immediately get cedar. It is dry and hot but not spicy. Almost masculine. There are florals in there. The amber sits more hidden than I expected it to, but it rounds off the sharp edges of the cedar and brings the scent into a cohesive unit.

    Swallow's Blood

This is a soft and gentle, yet heady floral. I get a distinct night-blooming flower scent; in some ways I am certain it's jasmine but in other ways I can't tell. There's a touch of spice to the floral. I don't think it's a hot spice like cinnamon or cardamom, but perhaps it's something along the lines of a sharp resin or a touch of carnation spice. This is very beautiful. I will cherish the single imp of it that I was able to get my hands on.

    Arachnina, The Spider Girl (2006)

I have no idea what nicotiana smells like but it seems like it might be what I am smelling the most. Overall I get a very strong hit in the face of alcohol-perfume and hairspray. I can't get past that until about 20 minutes later, at which point I get a wild run of florals the lilies. The patchouli seems to combine well with the rest of this. Overall the scent works. The concept and art works. It fits so well with the name, even if the scent itself doesn't work for me.

The Wild Men of Jezirat al Tennyn (2006)

Red, peppery, wild. Swarthy. Strong. This is chaotic and fiery and very masculine. The patchouli wears too strong on me, just as I was afraid it would.

    Kataniya, the Clockwork Woman

Cologne-like, nearly masculine: Pleasant flowers and a screeching, tangy metal. I love the execution of this but the metal scent makes my anxious for some reason. I can see this working really well for some people. It's the type of scent I'd take notice of as I passed by someone else, but not one that I could wear myself.

    Melisande, The Puppet Mistress

I get oodles of jasmine, then a touch of dusky violet and a comforting envelope of vanilla. This is sweet and pleasant, sensual, romantic. I really like this but my skin doesn't deal well with jasmine and it turns it to ick. This is one that I wish I could pull of but I simply can't. I am so glad I have a scent locket, though!
