Wet: Earthy yet lightweight. Slightly sweet. Drydown: The rain comes out more. There’s a gentle sweetness to it and just the slightest hint of ozone. Beneath the rain is a deep smokiness that I recognize from Malediction. Dry: A bit greener now, mossy even. Smoky earth with bits of wildflowers clinging to it, showered with sweet rain and electrified winds. Later in the day it is nearly a single note of vetiver. 5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sweet fauna with a hint of ozone and warm incense. Drydown: Green aquatic notes and floral incense. It’s complex but surprisingly gentle. As it dries, the incense becomes spicier and something almost earthy -the clay perhaps- comes forth. Dry: The incense and clay fade a bit and the aquatic notes become brighter and fizzier as a chilly breeze rolls in. All in all, it's a well-balanced aquatic with spicy/incense-y mid notes and a touch of sweetness and coolness in the background. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Strong lavender layered over a sweet aquatic. Drydown: The aquatic component comes forward a bit more and some spicy florals join the lavender. There’s something sort of old-fashioned and ladylike about it. It becomes saltier and less sweet as it dries. Dry: Lavender soap. It’s a pretty soap - the kind you might hold up to your nose and sniff with a smile before using. But, yeah, it’s definitely soap. 6 out of 10 bones

Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a non-morpher! Wet/Drydown/Dry: Effervescent and vivacious ginger beer that smells as authentic as can be. I can practically hear the bubbles fizzing and popping beneath my nose. (How does the Lab do that??) There’s an ozone-like sharpness and a bright-and-tingly spiciness tempered by just enough sweet smokiness to make it yummy and comforting. An uplifting, yet sexy and complex ginger beer. This is definitely bottle-worthy, shooting straight to the top of list. It reminds me of of a gingered-up No. 93 Engine, for those looking for similar scents to that. 8.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Cinnamon Toast Crunch! Sweet cinnamon with a buttery and crispy bite. Drydown: The very best cinnamon paired with glowing honey. Perhaps a pinch of clove too. Spicy-sweet and delicious. How is it that people don’t rave about this more often? Dry: The musk enters in, tempering the foody elements a bit. Warm and spicy cinnamon-musk sweetened by a subtle drop of honey. Musky and golden with a fuzzy spiciness. There are moments where the musk tries to do a weird plastic/play-doh thing, but the cinnamon seems to fend it off for the most part. 6.5 out of 10 bones

I'm not familiar with Devil Sex, but from the notes you mentioned I'd suggest: 'Tis the Voice of the Lobster: A woody, musky-weird base glooping over with blackberry preserves, a twist of mandarin, strawberry juice, pulverized watermelon, and a handful of smushed gardenia petals. Oya: Oya’s ofrenda is a Nigerian potion of love and war, sweetened by darkest plum. The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil: Whiffs of cinnamon bark, almond, and spikenard surround a perfect fruit, whose scent is akin to a tamarind, with the grace of a fine grape, as warm and rich as a fresh fig, glistening red like pomegranate seeds, and as crisp as an apple. Kuang Shi: Mandarin orange, white musk, mango, and white sandalwood. Al-Shairan: Clove, peach and orange with cinnamon, patchouli and dark incense notes.

A luminous white winter musk with lilac, wisteria, white chocolate, white mint, and tuberose. Wet: Sweet and ethereal. Shimmery white musk kissed with pale florals and sweet cream. Dreamy. Drydown: The lilac and musk are adding a beautiful cologne element that adds a sophisticated brightness to the blend. Melty white chocolate coats the snowy-floral background without adding too much sweetness. Pale purples and cool creamy white notes swirl about. It reminds me of winter and spring at the same time. Dry: A marvelously floaty and enchanting blend. Every note is present and working together beautifully. Wispy, creamy, iridescent, pale, nostalgic, fresh, and fae. This is the exact type of girly I can get behind. Final Thoughts: Lady Amalthea exists somewhere between Jareth and Snow White to my nose. And it's absolutely gorgeous. 8 out of 10 bones

Wet: Chocolatey with a touch of deep, meaty fig. Drydown: Dark purple fig, nearly black. It smells thick and shadowed. Softened a touch by earthy mushroom and perhaps a bit of dust. Dry: The fig is lighter now, almost resembling wine at this point. Soft, pillowy patchouli partners with it and dusty mushroom and oakmoss lighten the blend further in the background. It smells dusty pink and soft with a slight tang. 6 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sweet vegetables. Kind of sharp and surprisingly clean. Drydown: There’s definitely an herbal soap vibe going on here. I'm getting just a hint of tomato leaf and bitter leaves. Subtle patchouli actually seems to be the central character, followed by whatever that sharp note is. Dry: A gentle sweetness comes and goes over this herbal and surprisingly soft and clean blend. It’s outdoorsy yet feminine and almost dainty. I think it would make a great room spray, as it reminds me of a countryside inn or a bed and breakfast in the Poconos. 6 out of 10 bones

Wet: Dial soap with something more rustic supporting it. Drydown: It starts out as amber-touched Dial, and then begins to morph into smooth woods. It’s warm and soft with different shades of brown and tan coming through. A hint of sap and dew-covered autumn leaves appear as it dries. Dry: There’s something almost green or mentholated coming through now. It reminds me of dried evergreen needles. I think it might actually be the white clove. Alongside that is the scent of damp fall leaves and bark. The overall effect is surprisingly cologne-y. I keep thinking there must be a touch of amber tucked in here too. The blend gives off a very smooth and professional vibe. Despite the leaf note occasionally skewing a bit acrid, it remains rather sexy throughout the day.

Wet: Sultry. I can somewhat pick out the amber, but mostly the notes are acting as one. Not terribly heady or overpowering as I had expected it to be. Deep red and somewhat floaty. Drydown: For a deeper scent this is actually pretty clean. Perhaps that’s the rose. The red musk is not as spicy as usual, but it’s still warm and cozy. Enchanting. Dry: Soft, womanly, and luscious Edited to add: Retesting this a few months later I get a lot more rose. Which, unfortunately with my skin chemistry, means more soapiness. 6 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sweet almond extract. It's verging on cherry territory but I think the other notes are keeping it in check. Very wet and potent without being overly strong. Drydown: Still mainly wet, sweet almonds but with a layer of buttercream folded in. The butteriness is emphasized for a bit and then it settles back down. I can now identify the sweetness as coming from the honey as it has that glowing, cloying quality that honey has. Dry: Honey-drenched almonds with a touch of booze lurking in the background. These are all rather intense notes yet somehow this blend is much more subdued and smoother than I had expected. I was expecting it to be a disaster on my skin but it’s actually behaving quite well. Not bad. 6.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Ambergris and salty musk. Drydown: Heaps of salt air. This is the scent that hits you as you cross over the bay heading to the Jersey shore. Except this smells much cleaner, lol. A true ocean-aquatic that’s pretty straightforward and simple despite the long list of notes. Dry: Clean, fresh, and very salty. I can almost feel the ocean waves crashing around me. Like most aquatics, this is definitely unisex and would make a great warm weather or post-workout scent. 7.5 out of 10 bones

(2013) Olive notes tend smell like pineapple and ginger on me and this is no exception. In fact, this illustrates the rule better than any other olive-containing blend I've tried thus far. Fresh pineapple and sexy Hawaiian ginger with a whisper of soft leather and fresh wood several layers back. It’s definitely fruity but it’s not too sweet or in your face about it. If you’re familiar with Paul Mitchell’s Awapuhi products, this smells almost identical to that with just an itty bitty touch of earthy sharpness and greenness from the leather and wood. Tropical and sexy. Yum. I may need a bottle. 8.5 out of 10 bones

(2013) Wet: The freshest lilac ever. Dew-kissed and at the height of its bloom. Drydown: A slightly softer lilac. Almost powdery - but in the good way. A bit of blue musk assumes the support position. Deep beneath the lilac bush is a pleasant woodsiness that adds complexity. It’s similar to Cordelia, but this is airier and more lilac-focused. Dry: Bright, clean, sweet and soft. An absolutely beautiful lilac mist. 8 out of 10 bones

First of all, Congratulations! I love the theme you're going with and the fact that you are trying to coordinate your BPALs! You're already considering some great scents that would fit your theme well. Here are some pairing suggestions with a few other scents thrown into the mix: Dee: Soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods. & Belle Vinu: Red sandalwood, vanilla, rosewood, osmanthus, and white peach. The Antikythera Mechanism: Teakwood, oak, black vanilla, and tobacco. & Lamia: Pale orchid, vanilla amber, black currant, white peach, champaca, coconut, Arabian myrrh, Burmese vetiver, and oude. The Robotic Scarab: Polished metallic notes, glossy leather, frankincense, star anise, and thin lubricating oils. & Veil: White sandalwood, lilac, gardenia, violet, orris, lavender and ylang ylang. The Black Rider: Black leather, oppoponax, tobacco, and black amber. & The Temptation: Attar of rose, calla lily, palmarosa, peach blossom, wisteria, rice flower, and black musk. Cathedral: The scent of incense smoke wafting through an ancient church. A true ecclesiatical blend of pure resins. & Eternal: Stephanotis, cyclamen, heliotrope, white rose and gardenia. And you both might want to try Tavern of Hell to see how your skin chemistry interprets it. Wet: Musky Bubblicious gum. Drydown: A pale, melon-infused musk supported by touches of cantaloupe and sweet pea. Beneath that is ...peanuts? Dry: Pink musk and bright, citrussy elemi layered over faded melon (more in the cantaloupe/honeydew direction than watermelon) and smooth sandalwood. Very light. 6 out of 10 bones

Wet: Dry golden resins. Drydown: At the forefront is a musky oak note that reminds me of amber. Beneath that is gritty stone, warming incense, and something green. Maybe a touch of vetiver? Dry: Almost dirt-like. Earthy stone, musky incense, and smooth, dry woods. There's still an amber/golden vibe that lends an air of sophistication to the blend. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Soft, subdued lime. Drydown: Gentle lime with white musk and a hint of a light floral. Dry: Soft, grounding green tea with the barest hint of lime and powdery white musk. It reminds me of green tea ice cream. Gentle and sort of fluffy. 7.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Bright green notes with a creamy undercurrent. Pretty. Drydown: Grassy basil grounded by tonka. Clean yet robust. It gains a slight cologne-ish edge as it dries. Dry: A musky, deep green cologne overtop of soft tonka. Bright and masculine with a touch of creaminess. It fades substantially in this phase leaving the light impression of a creamy cologne that does occasionally remind me of latex. 6.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sweet wood. Cedar and something a bit lighter. Drydown/Dry: Leaves and fresh earthy wood. Something vaguely sweet sneaks up from beneath the deep cedar note. Smooth and stately. It reminds me of Azathoth, but this is more sophisticated. A refined and regal cedar blend. Sidenote - I tried layering Tavern of Hell over this and my gods did that smell good! 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Light evergreens and sweet earth. There’s something like a berry or chocolate note too, which must be the burgundy incense. Drydown: Light blue evergreens like spruce or juniper over a base of rich, moist earth. A touch of fuzzy and cool herbs along the lines of sage, bay, and hyssop. I’m also getting a sweet and creamy tonka-like note which is likely just the result of the woods/herbs with my skin chemistry. Towards the end of the drydown the incense kicks into high gear overpowering the other notes. It’s deep and definitely burgundy-hued. Dry: A light, creamy-woodsy-powdery scent. The individual notes have all merged and become whispers. It's quite pleasant.

Wet: Lemon candies. Mostly tart with a bit of sweet. Drydown: Bright lemon with a smoother, more grounded lemongrass note. There’s a freshness that leans in the herbal direction (as opposed to the lemonade direction). It reminds me of Absinthe, in fact, minus a few key herbs. Dry: Pillowy white musk with lemongrass and grapefruit rind. Similar to Shanghai and Embalming Fluid. Soft and light. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Creamy coconut and crumbly incense (chocolate incense?). Creamy, sweet, dry, and somewhat vegetal. Drydown: Dusty coconut husk. Dry, brittle, and almost leathery. Beneath the husk is smoke and creaminess. There’s something slightly sharp in the background too, the orris no doubt. There's an interesting mix of clean and gritty happening in this one. Earthy, tropical, dry, smokey, and quite smooth. Dry: Toasted coconut, dusty incense, and smooth sandalwood. Subtle and inviting nighttime island vibes. Surprisingly gentle. 8 out of 10 bones
