Wet: Shiny frankincense and spicy carnation. There’s a smokiness to it that reminds me of myrrh. Drydown: Fresh heliotrope brings out the glittery aspects of the frankincense. The carnation and frankincense create a somewhat heady cloud of spicy incense, while the heliotrope and chamomile give off a cooler, fresher vibe beneath it. Dry: Spicy floral incense. The chamomile comes out a bit later in the day taking it in a slightly more masculine direction, but overall it’s a pretty straightforward incense blend. 6 out of 10 bones

Wet: Juicy pink grapefruit. Incredibly authentic-smelling, like I’m holding a halved grapefruit right in front of my nose. Squirty and tingly. Drydown: A bright, clean citrus with touches of floral greenery. It reminds me of a good lemonade - sweet but not too sweet, very fresh, and tart. There’s a bit of a soft muskiness - the apple blossom probably - but it’s still mainly fresh and vibrant grapefruit. Dry: Soft and calming apple tea with a splash of tart grapefruit. Still fresh and clean, but it now has more of a fuzzy, lemony-apple musk vibe. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sticky-sweet honey wine. There’s sort of a tangy purple vibe going on. Drydown: Honey wine and mead with something cool and fresh. For a moment I swear I smell blueberries. It becomes tangier as it dries. Dry: Tart honeyed berries over a cool and fresh mist and gentle wafts of purple incense. If this were a color, it’d be teal with swirls of gold-flecked fuchsia. 4 out of 10 bones

Wet: Salty and soapy. An opaque white soap like Shea butter or goat's milk. Refreshing. Drydown: As it dries, the soapiness slowly transitions into a milky note. Frothy, clean milk encrusted with heaps of sea salt. Dry: A beautiful creamy aquatic emerges. Ocean spray with a vanilla-ish undercurrent and a touch of bergamot. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a white floral in there too. Tuberose or white lily perhaps. Clean, pale, and comforting. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: A pale and fresh floral that reminds me of lilacs. Drydown: Breathy white florals joined by a tart greenish citrus. I would have guessed bergamot if the notes weren’t listed. Airy and tart with a bit of sweetness and creaminess too. Below the surface is something off-putting that I’m guessing is the lotus. Dry: The lotus backs off and the jasmine comes out more. Whispy and shadowy jasmine over airy tuberose. Maybe a hint of fruitiness from the lotus or the lime, but it’s too faint to tell which it is. Light and feminine.

Wet: Mon Dieu! I'm getting strong, fruity melon and nothing else. Drydown: Melon brightened by a splash of gin and sweetened by a drizzle of honey. A touch of juniper softens things. Quite juicy and youthful. Dry: Finally the tobacco joins in tempering the melon a bit. Still fruity melon but more complex and grounded now. Hazy melon with soft brownish undertones from the tobacco. A touch of honey and gin keep the melon bright. Tiny hints of cool juniper and spicy chili pepper add interest to the bottom layer. Lush, full-bodied, and tropical. 4 out of 10 bones

Wet: Pale leather over what smells like a soft and creamy tonka with a hint of herbs. Drydown: Plenty of fluffy white musk supported by sharp leather and creamy, well-behaved vanilla. Fuzzy sage floats about in the background. It’s flurrying out right now and this scent perfectly matches the visual of my neighborhood becoming dusted with snow. Dry: There’s a lovely airiness to this blend. White musk and and vanilla at the forefront, with faded leather on the second tier, and a bit of rich cedar and powdery sage and lavender beneath that. Gender neutral in the best of both world’s sort of way. Thoughtful and well-mannered. 8 out of 10 bones

Wet: Glittery yet smooth citrus. Sophisticated. Drydown: An energetic and complex multi-faceted blend. The grapefruit, tea, and lemon are refreshing and bright. But there’s also a deep smoothness coming from the leather, amber, and teakwood. The orchid is the perfect floral to tie both together. It smells lively yet distinctively chic. Dry: The amber and lemon are a touch stronger now, but it’s still just as well-balanced and multi-faceted as before. Sophisticated and vibrant. A sexy and smooth citrus-aquatic.

Wet: Fabulous red musk paired with fresh and fruity heliotrope. A spike of astringent spiciness from the wasabi too. Drydown: Sweet, fluffy musks over spiced heliotrope. It’s really lovely during this phase. Dry: Cozy musks with rotating hints of freshness, spiciness, and fruitiness. Warm and sweet. Soft yet bold. As the day goes on the astringent spice of the wasabi grows stronger until it eventually overtakes the other notes.

Wet: Sweet, bright floral notes. Drydown: Sweet citrus and creamy florals. The lemongrass and wisteria are most noticeable, with the iris, cypress, and coconut just behind them. The last layer is a flurry of florals spritzed with lime. The overall effect is effervescent and tropical. Dry: A cool and refreshing semi-aquatic floral. The iris, lime, cypress, and coconut create a chilly fizziness that reminds me of sipping chilled drinks in paradise. The florals are warm and sweet with a hint of a sun-kissed glow from the amber. Effervescent and tropical still sums it up perfectly. I enjoy this quite a bit, but I should note that it was responsible for a terror moment when a friend of got a bit on her hand (when sniffing) and then insanely sharp iris began to amp like crazy nearly ruining our game night. I sometimes have issues with iris myself, so I was really scared to try it after that, but luckily it behaved just fine on me. So I guess the message is, proceed with caution - but do not rule it out, if you have iris issues. 7.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sparkly wood. Drydown: Fuzzy sage supported by subdued ceder. The bay adds a glittery effect to the top notes. As it continues to dry a creaminess comes forth that is no doubt the product of the bay on my skin chemistry. Dry: This smells like a creamy Christmas tree. It’s absolutely lovely, but tragically it’s also very, very light. I see copious slathering in the future. 8 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sweet and sparkly green. Drydown: Greenery and creamy benzoin clouded by musk. A hint of blackberry and violet too. Complex and ever-morphing. It begins to separate into two parts; Part creamy-musky (the benzoin, tonka, and musk) and part woodsy-fresh with occasional spikes of tart berry. It seems like the notes are having a hard time deciding which direction to head. Dry: As it settles the tonka, blackberry, and violet create a sort of old-fashioned candy vibe that sits atop a soft and woodsy musk. Fresh, powdery, and gently sweet. 6 out of 10 bones

Wet: Stunning honey. The same one that’s in O. Lusty. Drydown: Gorgeous honey that has been softened around the edges by a faint touch of a warm floral. Smokey myrrh softens things further and matches strength with the honey. Sensual and romantic. A splash of cognac adds a saucy kick. Dry: Still mainly honey and myrrh, but becoming far more complex as it dries. The tuberose floats around as a middle note bringing out a lighter, almost ethereal feeling that furthers the romantic vibe. There’s a hint of bitterness (from the cognac I think) that is disturbingly familiar to the scent of sweaty bodies playing intimate bedroom games. In the background the patchouli and body musk lie together creating a grounding and carnal edge. The honey slinks away from the spotlight leaving the myrrh and tuberose as the main duo. Smoky, airy, and smoldering.

Wet: Earthy and spicy. I can definitely detect the vetiver, although it’s fairly subdued. Drydown: Dry wood and light, indistinct spices. The vetiver is still in there, lending a hint of smoky green earthiness. the spices are warm and somewhat powdery. Dry: Smoky vetiver and dry wood with a touch of myrrh and pepper. Smoky, earthy, and charred. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sort of sweet. Ash and mead perhaps. Drydown: Sweet stones and ash. There's a touch of something herbal and grain-like, which must be the hops. I wonder if hops is one of the herbs in Osun, because something in this is reminding me of it. Dry: Pebbles and ash splashed with the frothiest of ales. A grounding hint of warm, spicy leather just beneath. It’s quite similar to the Robotic Scarab in this phase. It also reminds me of the process of sanding lithography stones, specifically the mix of metal grit with water. A vaguely warm, watery metallic that lands square in the middle of earthy and sharp. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Whoa! This really does smell like Dorian. It’s much sweeter and creamier than I was expecting. Drydown: There’s definitely some tea mixed with plenty of sweet, creamy tonka. A hint of pale, ethereal notes - probably the white musk and lilac fougere. The sweetness is beginning to tone down at this point. Overall it’s airy and creamy and shimmery. Dry: A spec of leather adds a pleasantly grounding warmth to this otherwise floaty and iridescent blend. Tonka and white musk dominate, with bright ti leaf close behind. The lilac doesn’t stand out on its own, but as part of the fougere it does lend the impression of a pale purple swirl weaving through the opal and pearl tones of the other notes. It's rather glam indeed. To me, Jareth smells like a cross between Dorian, Casanova, and Snow White, perhaps with a dash of Lady Amalthea in there too. If you like any of those, chances are you’ll like Jareth too. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Key lime pie! Bright and slightly sweet. Drydown: A delightful lime-citrus blend. Not too sweet and not too sour. Beneath the citrus is a pillowy floral. It’s surprisingly sophisticated for such a simple scent. Dry: A pale, citrus-tinged musk accompanied by sparkly lilacs. Creamy, bright, and gentle.

Wet: A cool aquatic with a touch of something juicy and pale green like cucumber or honeydew. Drydown: A sparkling mossy aquatic. Ambergris joins in adding a spicy, resinous vibe. Fresh yet deep and warm. The color impression is deep blue with speckles of bronze and shimmering moss green. Dry: Clean and comforting, like cozying up to a sexy man whose body temperature runs much hotter than mine. He’s the outdoorsy yet well-groomed type and looks best sporting a five o'clock shadow and very little else. 8 out of 10 bones

Anything with fougere listed should have oakmoss in it. For example, a traditional lavender fougere is lavender, tonka, and oakmoss. Aside from the scents already mentioned, the GC search results for oakmoss include Danse Macabre, Zombi, Cathode, Omen, Schrodinger's Cat, The Harlot's House, Horreur Sympathique, Nephilim, and How Doth the Little Crocodile. The GC results for fougere are Tavern of Hell, Villain, Old Scratch, Dorian, and The Scales of Deprivation.

Other than the Somnium blends, I like to use Gaueko or Darkness. Gaueko has lavender as well as some of the darker, smokier notes that I find comforting. And Darkness is comforting smokiness to the max and I feel that it helps me un-scatter my thoughts and redirects them into a more pleasant and dreamlike direction.

Wet: Whoa violets! It smells very blue indeed. Drydown: Soapy, with lavender at the forefront and the violet fading to the back. There is a deep roundness to this scent, which I suspect is the vetiver’s way of making its presence known amongst the paler notes. It reminds me of a bubble bath. Or maybe the taste of bubbles actually, lol. Dry: Very herbal lavender and bubbles. A bit of sweet and sharp violet too. While I can’t detect it outright, I suspect the vetiver is keeping the blend from becoming too high-pitched. Soapy and sharp. 4 out of 10 bones

Wet: Cinnamon and sweet florals. Drydown: Glowing cinnamon and something honey-sweet over waxy rose and frankincense. Perhaps a hint of fruity heliotrope below that. Dry: The pineapple is coming through now. Cinnamon and chamomile at the top, with juicy pineapple and smoky frankincense below that. There’s just a hint of florals and bay in the background. Glowing, smoky-spicy, and herbal. Summery. 6.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Sweet rain and ozone. Drydown: Clean and fresh rain with a touch of ocean spray. I think i’m detecting a light floral too, freesia perhaps. There’s a hint of citrus as well. Something along the lines of bergamot or grapefruit. Dry: Clean, dewey rain with citrus and a touch of freesia. Bright and fresh. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Very fresh and woodsy. Reminds me of an arboretum or winter garden. Drydown: Cool, snow-dusted pine with a deeper wood note just behind it. Juniper berries and a hint of spice add a sweet softness to the pine. The hyssop adds a clean & crisp coolness like snowflakes in the air. A perfect impression of a winter walk in the woods. Dry: The same as the drydown, but deepened a touch by a slightly more noticeable trace of spice. A wonderfully complex wintery woodsy scent. 8 out of 10 bones

Wet: Holy mesquite batman! This really does smell like smoked meats. Like bacon and several gallons of liquid smoke to be precise. Drydown: Less meaty, more woody now. Still plenty of smoke, but I no longer smell like a pork product, thank heavens. mmm...smoky wood chips. Dry: More woodsy as it dries. Dark and smoky, but in more of a pleasant way now. It reminds me of a campfire. Rustic, earthy, and rather comforting. This lasts into the next day, at which point only the patchouli is left. The initial application was utterly crazypants. But after that, Malediction is really quite nice. Just make sure you’re alone during the first ten minutes! 5 out of 10 bones
