Wet: Herbs paired with sweetened patchouli. A hint of spice and cocoa just beneath the surface. Drydown: Warm, fuzzy, and sort of juicy. Still mainly herbs and patchouli, but they’re now brightened by bergamot. The cocoa vibe I was getting becomes more resinous, so I’m guessing myrrh is in the mix too. Dry: Cozy resins, including amber (or perhaps that's the ambrette seed) and chocolaty myrrh, robust patchouli, tart bergamot, and a sparse sprinkle of herbs and moss. Complex, cuddly, and invigorating.

Wet: Rum and creamy tonka. Slightly buttery and spiced. Drydown: Still creamy rum with just the slightest touch of grey-hued leather. There’s a bit of frothiness, which must be coming from the chardonnay. The butteriness of the rum starts to ease off a bit, which is a good thing in my book. Dry: Creamy and boozy. Caramelized even. There’s a softness to it that I imagine to be the result of chardonnay fizz mixing with a light puff of tobacco. Every once in awhile I get a ghost-like hint of sharp leather. But primarily, this is soft, creamy tonka and rum. I get the impression that this is the type of perversion that involves bunny ears and pink stilettos. A bit too sweet and creamy for my tastes (I was hoping for more chardonnay and tobacco), but this gets bonus points for being the first scent to get me unsolicited compliments from a stranger!

(In response to BlueSakura) It sounds like your hobbies and television tastes are creative, so how about Muse to keep you inspired? Muse - Tuberose, lotus and jasmine with a hint of lime Or Darkness to represent your closet? Darkness - Blackest opium and narcissus deepened by myrrh Or Intrigue to represent the mystery novels you are fond of - Intrigue - Black palm, with cocoa, fig and shadowy wooded notes Or Masquerade to represent your passion for makeup - Masquerade - Patchouli, ambergris, carnation and orange blossom As an English major, one of the Illyria scents would be fitting. So how about one that smells deep and red, like Lady MacBeth? Lady MacBeth - sweet Bordeaux wine, blood red currant, thyme and wild berries Or Lawful, for your study of the law - Lawful - Rigid oak, blue chamomile, rhubarb, and fig leaf And just because I have a hunch, Tavern of Hell - Tavern of Hell - White gardenia, ambergris bouquet, lavender fougere, orange blossom, melissa, tobacco flower, coriander, ebony wood, ylang ylang, absinthe and aged whiskey

Wet: A touch of sweet smoke wafting over gritty stone. Drydown: The stone note combines with a deep and serious wood note. Cedar, I think. The smoke fades leaving a waxy trail. It evokes strength and wisdom. Dry: As it dries it fades into a light resin. Slightly sweet with just a hint of stone. After a few hours the cedar returns, giving the scent a distinctly masculine vibe.

Wet: Slightly sweet and deep red. Drydown: Bubbly dragon’s blood and spiced wine, with perhaps a touch of cool bayberry and smooth, well-worn leather. Rich and festive with spikes of cool green moments. It grows spicier and sort of resinous. Speckles of metallics dance to the forefront and back. At the base of the scent is a lovely and charming red-brown musk. Dry: Warm glowing musk with cinnamon, clove, sweet evergreens, and the smoothness of the leather and wine. Festive, comforting, and regal. Tintagel is well-balanced and depicts the theme perfectly. It would definitely make a great holiday scent, but I could see myself wearing it year-round too.

Wet: Honey-sweet and resinous. Spicy and glowing. Drydown: Warm, spicy incense smoke edged with an almost-sharp ambergris note. Pillows of sweet tobacco smoke bloom in the background. There is a smoothness that I suspect is the leather growing throughout the middle. Smoky, warm, sweet, and smooth. Dry: Sweet, smoky, and suddenly very light. Nearly identical to The Light of Men’s Lives at this point. If this is hellfire, it is a very alluring, innocence-feigning, quietly seductive version of it. 8 out of 10 bones

Wet: A wintery blast paired with a sweet citrus-type note. Pineapple perhaps? Drydown: Still wintery and tart, but not as sweet now. Fir with juniper and grapefruit I’m guessing. Maybe even a drop of ambergris too? Sharp and quite aquatic. Like jumping into the ocean in the middle of winter. Dry: More of the same. Bright and joltingly fresh. Softens a touch as the day goes on. I like this a lot. If Djinn had a cooler counterpart this would be it. 6.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Lots of sharp juniper, and maybe a bit of dirt. Drydown: Sweeter. Deep evergreens, cool juniper and just a hint of warm patchouli. Dry: Mainly a chilly menthol, but there is definitely a serious dirt note near the forefront as well. Very earthy and cool. Like a fresh grave dug in the middle of winter. 7.5 out of 10 bones

Wet: Deep and fresh. Drydown: Pine with something sweet and brown. Somewhat off-putting. Opium-drenched roses amid dark evergreens. I think I’m detecting the grape just a bit, but instead of the fruit it smells more like the stem. Dry: An odd combination of forest-y freshness and a devious dankness. It becomes softer and smoother with the rose fading out early on and then returning to the forefront later. Soft and perfumey. This is an odd little morpher. I was needlessly worried about the grape, which never fully showed up. The rose, however, ultimately made this blend a touch too perfumey for my tastes. I think I will retest at some point, however, because the opium and forest notes were quite lovely. Something tells me that people who typically don’t go for forest scents might like this one. 6 out of 10 bones

Original Review - Wet: Honey and spice. Drydown/Dry: A clean, but sweet honey note. Gentle and soft. Fluffy, ivory-hued clouds of honey. Heavenly. Aged 9 yrs Review - Wet: Sweet, creamy, and pale with wafts of light honey and soft marshmallow-like fluffiness. Drydown: Pillowy and comforting with an airy sweetness to it. The honey matures into a dustier, waxier version of itself and something herbal enters. Dry: Powdery, golden, and feather-soft. Like a sweet and airy whisper. 8 out of 10 bones

Wet: Gorgeously sticky honey. Drydown: Glowing honey with something deep and soft beneath it. Dry: Pretty much the same, just a beautiful, singing-sweet honey note with a whisper of tobacco flower.

Wet: Smoky leather. Drydown: Sweet, sticky, and plantlike, which must be the date palm. Beneath that is a touch of tobacco smoke and something sort of dirty and waxy. Dry: It starts to turn funky. I hate to say this, but at times it smells like Raisinets soaked in foot sweat and sprinkled with dirt. Needless to say, this one’s not for me. Edited to Add: I retested this some months later and it no longer turned funky in the dry stage. Instead, it stuck to being a dirty and sweet leather blend. 4 out of 10 bones

Wet: Mellow citrus. Drydown: Soft, restrained citrus. Verbena and perhaps bergamot or neroli. Something fuzzy and delicate too, possibly the oud. Brassy. Dry: Still mainly a soft citrus blend, but more complex now. There’s a warm woodsy element and a hint of very light resin. I’m not really picking up any amber. Light and soft, bright and smooth. Deeper and more resinous as the day goes on.

Wet: A clean and golden cologne. It smells very familiar for some reason. Drydown: Oh! It smells exactly like Dune. Glossy golden metal and a dry, amber-like musk. There’s a floral element, which must be the tobacco flower. Dry and smooth, like suede. Dry: The balsam comes out now and it the metallics lose their sharper edges. Velvety woods and golden musk. Warm, gleaming, and smooth. Gender-neutral, but I imagine this would have more of a wow-factor on a man than a woman. I would categorize this as a special occasion-scent, unless you happen to be fancy everyday. I definitely agree with the idea of this being something James Bond would wear, especially the Daniel Craig version. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Bright and sweet, like an old-timey tonic. Drydown: A spicy metallic with bright lemon and grounding sage over a sweet and creamy base of benzoin and beeswax. Woodsy balsam and sexy frankincense round it out. The throw smells like cinnamon. Dry: More of the same. Brilliant coppers and oiled brass. Deliciously spicy resins with smoky beeswax and herb-spiked lemon. It’s like all of my favorite things rolled into one. To quote Nine, it’s “Fantastic!” 9 out of 10 bones

Wet: Vanilla and smooth woods. Drydown: Warm, sweet, and rustic. Smooth woods over a soft and delicate vanilla. Straightforward but very comforting. Dry: The same but with a touch of tobacco folded in. Smooth, sweet, and cozy. Like being wrapped in your favorite blanket. 6.5 out of 10 bones -
Wet: Gentle. Sort of fruity. Drydown: Pale and slightly spicy. A touch sweet. Warm, comforting frankincense steps to the front. A touch of clean herbal-ness from the hyssop appears behind that. Dry: It’s hard to pinpoint any one note. It smells somewhat like a cross between The Robotic Scarab and Defututa. Pale, sweet, smoky, clean, resinous, & comforting. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Ooh! Bright, get-out-of-bed lemon with a touch of sweetness. Drydown: Delightfully lemony. It reminds me of drinking lemon juice from a lemon candy stick stuck into a fresh lemon. There’s a hint of green tea too, softening the lemon just a tad. Dry: Pillowy white musk with a splash of lemony zing. Bright and powdery (in a dusting of snow way, not the baby powder way). Cheerful and vibrant. Unlike similar blends I've tried, this lasts all day!

Wet: Dry dirt and butter? Drydown: Yep, that’s butter. Butter and cocoa powder. I’m not sure where the butter’s coming from, maybe it’s the tonka? After a few minutes a dry spice joins in. Ten, fifteen minutes after that, the slightest amount of mandarin zest appears too. Then something changes that I’m having trouble attributing to any specific notes so instead I’m going to say that it becomes hypnotic and I feel like Homer Simpson eating donuts. Dry: Finally the butter eases off and a beautiful red musk comes forward. Spicier and fruitier now. Red musk, juicy mandarin, and dry cocoa spiced with tobacco and a hint of prickly herbs. Orange-hued citrus rarely shows up on my skin so I’m really digging the mandarin here. Overall, the vibe is powerful, exotic, and focused. 7.5 out of 10 bones

A bruised purple bundle of herbs with hyssop and life-everlasting. Wet: Cool and sweet. Blue-green. Drydown: It smells sort of like sweet juniper. There's almost a menthol-vibe, but not quite. Clean and refreshing. Dry: Softer now. Still cool and clean but it now smells floral. Light and pillowy. Silvery purples and pale greens. Fades quickly.

Wet: Herbaceous lavender with something sultry behind it. Drydown: Calming lavender, with a deep, dark background note that sort of smells like chocolate incense. The edges of the lavender become smooth as it gives in to the darkness. Resins and tobacco melting together. Smooth and sexy. Dry: Dusky, comforting resins and smoke. Slightly dirty. The lavender is barely detectable at this point, save for a vague impression of (to borrow from the previous review) a “mauve” hue. Sexy and sleepy and sort of twisted. This is one of those bpals that, while not at the very top of my favorites list, I keep wanting to wear in an effort to understand it better. It is mysterious and puzzling I keep feeling compelled to dab it on. 8.5 out of 10 bones

Using BPAL to negate the smell of death?

How about Anubis? From a concept perspective it would be very fitting. -
Wet: A sweet floral. Very yellow. Drydown: Definitely honeysuckle with a bit of smokiness from the jasmine and brightness from the lemon. Slightly soapy at times, but only a little. Golden and summery. Dry: Same as the drydown but with a touch of spice folded in. Sweet and sticky honeysuckle supported by spiced jasmine. Glowing and sensual. Occasionally a moment of soapy tartness appears but it mostly stays true. Hazy yellows.

Wet: Sweet root beer. Drydown: Root beer and opium, which make a really nice pairing. Brighter than I expected. A fascinating duality as its both fizzy and smoky. Rich, glowing browns and shiny coppers. Dry: Opium soda (you heard me) partnered with sweet, smooth myrrh. A touch of astringent nutmeg layered just beneath. The perfect amount of throw. Quite lovely. I wish I had more to add to the description, but really all I keep thinking is "Ooooh, that's nice." 9 out of 10 bones

First off, this is a really cool idea! It's also quite a challenge For a mango scent, I'm thinking Kuang Shi for him, and either Tweedledum or The Dodo (if you don't amp cassia) for you. Or for a fruit and tea pairing, you could do Embalming Fluid or Shanghai for him and The Apothecary for you. Or maybe you could tie things together with grapefruit using Phobos or Baobhan Sith for him and Mania or Chesire Cat for you. Zephyr might be a good one to try too. For him: Kuang Shi - Mandarin orange, white musk, mango, and white sandalwood Embalming Fluid - white musk, green tea, aloe and lemon Shanghai - green tea touched with lemon verbena and honeysuckle Phobos - white musk, lemon verbena, white grapefruit and lemongrass Baobhan Sith - Grapefruit, white tea, apple blossom and ginger For you: Tweedledum - Green mango, fig, patchouli and green tea The Dodo - Red musk, lemon peel, sugar cane, cassia, white sandalwood, mango, and agarwood The Apothecary - Tea leaf with three mosses, green grass, a medley of herbal notes, and a drop of ginger and fig Mania - Screeching white musk collides with a howl of red musk, with sharp white grapefruit and pale strawberry leaf Chesire Cat - Grapefruit, red currant, dark musk, Roman chamomile, delphinium, and lavender Zephyr - Lemon, lemon verbena, neroli, white musk, white florals, white sandalwood, China musk, bergamot and a drop of vanilla
