    Jabberwocky

This starts as a sharp single note of pine that is very evocative of Christmas. As it dries, the pine softens and the eucalyptus comes forth to give the pine more of an airy quality. It is soft, sweet, and clean. Refreshing. 7.5 out of 10 bones

    The Jersey Devil

Wet: Blackberries with something that smells powdery and pink Drydown: The pink something magically transforms into a powdery pine and the berries take on a candy-like quality. Half sweet candy, half soft, powdery woods. Dry: Juice Barrels (yes, definitively Juice Barrels) with a touch of soft pine-scented powder. Long story short, I amp berries like Whoa. No cedar for me :*( 3 out of 10 bones

    Dracul

Wet: Golden smoke. Drydown: Glowing, resinous smoke deepened by clove and brightened by orange blossom and fir. After 10-15 minutes, the smoke becomes less resinous and more woodsy and tobacco-like. There's the vaguest impression of evil that I think must be the cumin. Towards the end of the first hour, a minty freshness comes out to play. Dry: Cool, earthy, and fuzzy. Minty fir/balsam softened by musk and generously spiced with tobacco. It alternates between being cool woods-dominant and spicy tobacco-dominant with each sniff. Enticing, sexy, and fresh with just a hint of danger. A winner. I've had my eye on this one for a while and I'm happy to report that it did not disappoint! It reminds me of The Night Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches (in all its earthy, Alpha glory) but Dracul is slightly lighter and gobs more attractive. I could wear this everyday. 9 out of 10 bones

    The Black Tower

Wet: Deep, sweet wine with a touch of ozone. Drydown: Deep, warm, and complex. The ambergris is at the forefront, with touches of sandalwood, sweet wine, burnt grass, ozone, and leather settling in along the edges. This is a full-bodied and intoxicating scent. Dry: Primarily soft ambergris and wine lifted by a hint of ozone. The other notes are blending together in the background giving this an incredible amount of depth. Sumptuous and cozy. I was expecting a grittier, more masculine scent, but this is actually quite sophisticated and seductive. The ruggedness is there, but so is a sweetness and softness that I wasn't expecting. It's rather sexy!

    Golden Priapus

Wet: Sparkly amber and vanilla Drydown: Creamy vanilla paired with the glow of pale amber and lightly lit by glittering pine and juniper. If I try, I can detect the smoothness of the rosewood in the background acting as an anchor. Dry: It stays true, but the vanilla skews a bit artificial at times (as per usual with my skin chemistry). Over time the the pine and juniper fade away leaving this as a glowing vanilla. This is a really nice scent that I can tell would be fabulous on vanilla-loving skin. On my skin I find myself wishing for less vanilla and more pine, but this was rather nice nonetheless.

    Tanuki No Hikifune

Wet: Strong melon. Drydown: Honeydew with a drop of honey. There's a funky sidenote for about 20 minutes, then it trails off. Dry: The musk softens the blend and adds subtlety. Soft, gentle honeydew. This is a pretty straightforward blend. It reminds me of a melon eau de toilette I had as a young teen (limited 2 I think) but it's much more sophisticated than that. Still, this feels very young to me. I like it and could see wearing it to a backyard BBQ or swim party, but other than that I think it would be better suited for someone younger/more innocent-minded than myself. This will be perfect for introducing my young cousins to BPAL I think 6 out of 10 bones

    Tanuki No Senkimochi

Wet: Bright, almost citrus-y anise and a light touch of sweet green cypress. Drydown: This is a clean, mostly cool scent, but there's a touch of warmth to it too. Clean cypress softened by the furriness of the musk. Dry: Still clean and woodsy, but with a bit more depth now. The musk is making it cozy, but the overall scent is light and lustrous. It's like a warm breeze of sweet forest air. After a couple of hours, chocolaty myrrh joins the party, bringing out the deeper notes a bit. This was much brighter and cleaner than I was expecting, but quite nice nonetheless. It seems that the deeper, woodsier notes strengthen each time I wear it so I expect that this is one that will only get better with age. 7 out of 10 bones

Wet: Bright fruit and musk with a touch of amber. Drydown: Still bright and musky but with a touch of green wood and powdery freesia. Salt air occasionally wafts in adding intrigue. Dry: Sweet and commercial-smelling (it tickles my nose in fact!). Primarily a light musk with tiny hints of guava and freesia. Well-blended and non-offensive. Pretty, but....kinda boring? 6.5 out of 10 bones

    Wings of Azrael

Wet: Sweet violets and a touch of deep myrrh Drydown: Sweet, clean florals over a deep woodsy base. Soft and enchanting. Dry: Juicy violet over cool woods and spicy myrrh. Fresh, sweet, and iridescent. It smells like an enchanted forest with faeries flitting about. Feminine in a happy, nature-loving sort of way. Normally violet goes too sharp or too soapy or too powdery on me, but in this blend it is gorgeously sweet and delectable. The juniper and myrrh make for a perfect supporting cast and the lily never really shows up, which is a good thing in my book. I'm quite surprised by how lovely this is. It may actually become a favorite!

    Hoggle

Wet: Buttery and brown with a touch of sweet pumpkin Drydown: Deep and rich. Soft, dusty leather and tobacco with a hint of dried wood. Smoother than you might expect. I can totally see where the coffee comparison is coming from in this stage. Dry: Gorgeous deep wood notes speckled with dust and spice. Just a hint of sweet tobacco and dark incense. Amazing. If you like Miskatonic U even just a little bit you will love this stuff. Incredibly evocative and authentic-smelling. The dust note is to-die-for. This actually triggered a few scent memories for me, including the smell of my Pop-pop's basement woodshop. Beautifully deep, dusty wood. Masculine-leaning, but soft enough for most women I think. 8 out of 10 bones

    Bravery, Courage, Confidence, Intimidation, Power

I find Darkness to be a very powerful, 'bow before me'-type scent.
  13. I'm also not a big floral fan - especially when it comes to violet, lily, rose, patchouli, and water-type flowers. However, I've discovered several floral scents that I actually love quite a lot here at BPAL. For amber and musk, I'd recommend: Marquise de Merteuil: Stately, bold, aristocratic and cruel. Opulent galbanum and amber, glistening peach, and a bouquet of French florals, with a merciless undertone of jonquil and heartless vetiver. - a sophisticated amber-floral pairing Cleric: Rose amber, frankincense, myrrh, champaca flower, Peru balsam, cistus, palisander, cananga, hyssop, and narcissus absolute. - mostly resins with floral background notes Cordelia: The essence of faith, love and devotion: lilac, lemon, green tea, wisteria, osmanthus, white cedar, and Chinese musk - soft & woodsy lilac Others that I happen to like: Defututa: Olive blossom, honey, smoky vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, sandalwood, and champaca flower. - this one varies a lot depending on skin chemistry, but on me it's a tropical blend of light flowers and smoky honey Ladon: The hundred-headed dragon that guards the garden of the Hesperides: dragon's blood resin, golden apple, apple blossom, white musk and hyacinth. - tingly & spicy hyacinth

    Slobbering Pine

Wet: Green and fruity. Drydown: Sweet, juicy, and green. Dry: Soft, sweet, and blue-green. It's really hard to describe this one. It's a wet and dewy plant, for sure, but beyond that it's hard to be specific. It's familiar in a non-specific way. I would put it in the category of juniper, eucalyptus, and aloe. 6.5 out of 10 bones

    Pele

Wet: Fresh and sweet floral. Creamy. Drydown: Soft floral (lily and ???) and ginger. Clean and tropical. Dry: Similar to the drydown, but warmer. Delicate with a sexy tropical slant. Light and soft. 6.5 out of 10 bones

    Dragon's Milk

Wet: Sweet and warm. Vaguely fruity. Drydown: Tootsie Rolls. I'm not kidding! It's tootsie rolls for a good ten minutes, then it morphs into vanilla'ed dragon's blood. Sweet, warm, creamy, spicy, and smoky. Drydown: Pretty much the same but with extra vanilla. I'd say it's 60% vanilla, 40% dragon's blood. 6.5 out of 10 bones

    Undertow

Wet: Cool, sweet, and fresh. Very light, restrained even. Drydown: Primarily juniper with a subtle hint of mint. Reminds me of aloe gel. Dry: Soapy juniper and plastic-y lotus.

    Chimera

Wet: Honey-sweet and cinnamon-spicy Drydown: Still sweet & spicy but deeper. I can detect the myrrh and honeysuckle now. There's a slightly medicinal quality that makes me think that Snake Oil might be an unlisted note. Dry: Sweet, creamy, spicy, and resinous. There's a glowing quality that I'm guessing is the copal. Slightly tingly. My, my, this is a lovely one. A mix of foodie cream and spice with sexy resins. I imagine this is what Snake Oil smells like on the people that love Snake Oil. This does wonderful things on my skin. No red hots here! 6.5 out of 10 bones

    The Lights of Men's Lives

Wet: Very light. Honey and light smoke. It reminds me of O but it's much more delicate. Drydown: The honey starts to sing! It's not so light anymore (that's not to say it's bold mind you, just not so light). Creamy, smoky, golden honey. Dry: This smells like eating the richest, creamiest vanilla ice cream drizzled with honey while sitting in a candlelit room. Gorgeous. This has all of the qualities I love about O without that in your face SEX-note that makes it uncomfortable to wear to work or, say, dinner w/ the in-laws (take my word! lol). Basically it's yummy and I want to lick myself allover when I wear it. Instant favorite.

    Incantation

Wet: Pale wood with a bit of tartness from the lemon. Drydown: It becomes darker and smokier almost instantly. The vetivert appears and becomes the primary note, giving a masculine edge to this. Rather than smelling "lemon" I pick up on the brightness of the lemon which is counteracting the darker notes and lifting the overall tone of the blend. Dry: Vetivert w/ undercurrents of smoke, woods, and lemon. Smoky and acidic. Gradually sweetens as the day wears on. Lasts all day. 6 out of 10 bones

    Schrodinger's Cat

Wet: Mint with a touch of moss and citrus Drydown: Primarily lime and lavender with feint hints of chocolate, mint, and tangerine in the background. Green and tart. Dry: The moss and chocolate gain just enough strength to soften the tartness. Sweet and soft with tingly lime and green notes.
  22. BoneBone24

    Eros

Wet: A fresh and juicy combination of lilac and honey wine. In the background is something that reminds me of sesame brittle. Drydown: Spicy myrrh joins the lilac and wine. It's deep and smooth with a hint of powdery freshness. After a while it becomes more creamy than fresh. Dry: Primarily honey, myrrh, and church incense, with just a hint of lilac. Creamy and resinous, yet not heavy.

    Dragon's Hide

Wet: Light, bubbly dragon's blood and a hint of smoke Drydown: Dirtier - in a good way. The dragon's blood is less fruity and I think it's being grounded by the leather although I can't say that I smell it directly. Dry: Musky dragon's blood tempered with ashy smoke. The lab's description is pretty much spot on. I prefer this to plain ol' dragon's blood due to the smoky earthiness keeping the fruity notes in check. Kinda surprised (but also relieved) that the leather didn't amp like crazy.

    Anubis

Wet: A golden resin, similar to amber but not quite. Behind that is a light wood note and astringent herbs. Drydown: The myrrh melts into the other notes making things spicier. It becomes increasingly sweet, almost honey-like. A sweet green note begins to dominate. Dry: Citrus appears and settles in as the dominant note. It's balanced out by sweet herbs and golden resins, which keep it from smelling too fruity/foody. A dry wood note rests in the background giving a wonderful depth to this scent. Hmm. I got this imp for my husband but I may have to steal it from him, lol. It smells good on him but I think it actually smells even better on me. Anubis is a wonderfully complex scent that is frankly hard to categorize. The best I can come up with is O meets Absinthe meets Coyote plus a shot of citrus. 7 out of 10 bones
