A frimp, and most unfortunately a disappointment. I was really looking forward to a damp earthy floral scent, but on me, it comes off as soap. I can smell a green/earthy note under it, so I think this is just a matter of bad skin chemistry. Also, I think I'm allergic to something it, because after putting it on my eyes started to itch and water. ETA: I was going to send this on to another, hopefully-happier home when I tried layering Dorian over it.... and A MIRACLE OCCURRED! All the nasty soapiness went away, and I had Dorian's musk/sweet/vanilla with gorgeous damp earth/floral under-tones. The phrase "Victorian gothic" kept floating into my head. With that combination, I'm definitely keeping it. Also, my eyes stopped acting up after layering.

This is one I felt I had to get, because I grew up with a Jólasveinar calendar every Christmastime. At first I was pleased – it's mostly piney/light, sweet floral, but the pastry was pleasant, as opposed to cloying (which is what most other similar ones have been). But about half an hour after putting it on, it got a really strong musk-like tone which eventually overshadowed the others, and to me this was not a good combination.

The Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil
KissleMeNow replied to RaeiNarcissus's topic in Discontinued Scents
This was a frimp, and I'm feeling mixed about it. Overall, it is a nice scent – fruity in a light way, not candy-like, the cinnamon is light and sweet, unlike other spice blends I've gravitated toward. I like it, but it's not quite my thing in terms of wearing it. I'm planning on keeping it and adding it to a candle or burner some time. -
This is the first big morpher I've tried, and it left me feeling mixed. When I sniffed it in the imp and put it on, my first thought was "This smells like Christmas!" It's full of evergreens, juniper, and green things. As it dried, the leather and patchouli started to come out nicely. A few hours later, it was still strong, but the "green" scents had faded, leaving leather, patchouli, and a bit of wood. This was a very nice, warm, comforting smell which made me feel somehow good, but it just isn't something I would wear myself. During the first two stages I was considering saving it and wearing it around Christmastime next year because of the evergreen/juniper combination, and I may do that. I didn't get any galangal, but this is the first thing with Spanish moss that didn't smell like a mildewed thing on me. In conclusion, this could be a lovely scent on someone. That someone is just not me. ETA: When I lay down to try and sleep, the patchouli got completely cloying and overwhelming. I ended up having to get up and wash it off. :/

In imp: It's definitely predominantly sweet coffee. There's a promise of wood under it, though. Wet: My first thought was "This coffee is very Irish." Definitely an alcoholic underpinning to the coffee and sweetness – it gets a slight creaminess. A lot of people in this thread have mentioned Bailey's. I have to admit that I dashed this on before going out the door, so I didn't keep close track of things. But, sitting on the subway a few hours later, all I could think of was "Something smells good." I actually thought it was somebody else until I got off. After a few hours, the coffee/sweetness will have faded, and the wood/paper really comes out, along with what smells to me like leather. This is what smelled so good. Definitely a keeper. It's slightly sweeter than I want to wear every day, but I do want to wear it often. An excellent scent for the fall and winter, I think. Also, just to note, I don't drink so I tend not to wear scents where an alcoholic note pops out – it just seems weird/wrong – but I didn't find this overwhelmingly boozy (unlike, say, Mary Read).

Hello! I am a n00b dipping my toes in the waters of BPAL (or oils, as it were? ), and I was hoping for some advice. Due to some chronic joint problems I wear Tiger Balm Red almost every day, so my person/sheets/clothes all eventually start to carry a whiff of it. For anyone who doesn't know Tiger Balm, the Red stuff has camphor, menthol, clove, cassia, cajuput, and "dementholised mint oil", whatever that is. I find that I smell the camphor, cassia, and clove most of all, although my nose isn't as sensitive as some people's. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could recommend something which would layer well with existing camphor/spice notes? I like some of the "spicy" BPAL scents, but feel that, say, lingering Tiger Balm+Bengal would be overwhelming. So I suppose what I'm looking for is something that would accomplish a sweet/other note over existing spice/camphor? I would love to hear suggestions, and please let me know if you need any more information.

I was so very excited about Gnome – and so very disappointed. It's hard to give it a proper review because the only thing my nose is sensing is... horribly strong dish soap? I simply can't get past that association. I will say that this has good staying power, since my skin tends to eat scents, but it is not a very nice smell. I'm going to keep the imp and hope that it lightens up a bit with age, because the description sounded so brilliant, I've got to hold out hope it'll work on me eventually.

I love this scent! Wet, it comes off as lavender-peppermint, but as it dries it gets an earth-and-plant-y smell which I am guessing is mostly the mandrake. Unfortunately it is faint on my skin and fades quickly – I've applied it with a stick, as opposed to the thingie in the cap of the bottle, and would probably carry the bottle around for reapplication if I wanted to make sure I smelled of it all day. But, more opportunity to sniff this? I can't complain about that! It's also wonderfully sharp, and gives one a nice "zing" in the morning.
