Favorite Scents
I have a dear love of blends with fruits, spices, and vanilla, and I absolutely adore a good, warm scent. Among my favorites are Mme. Moriarty, Et Lux Fuit, Skuld, Snake Charmer, Devil's Night '06, Harvest Moon '06, and Dorian, amongst many others. Hungry Ghost Moon makes me melt into a puddle of happiness every time I wear it.

First time I tried this, I got only brimstone and tobacco. This review is after sitting for a month. Wet; this is sweet bay rum and vanilla. Not foody, but very delicious nonetheless. Dry; here comes the smoke and spice. The brimstone tempers the sweetness, but doesn't overpower it like it did brand new. Very earthy, with herbs coming through and while it doesn't scream manly, this is the most masculine blend I've ever personally purchased. Not an everyday scent, but one I definitely will keep and wear when I want to tap into that slightly dark, masculine temperment, when I have that come-and-get it attitude going on.

CD: CDXXXIV - 434 This started out smelling like cake batter, with perhaps a touch of butter. After a few hours I got something that smelled like either melon or apple, I think green apple. The batter scent doesn't sit so well with me, so off to the sales page it goes, and another to hop into my next order.

In the bottle, I get something like a cool, sweet cucumber, with a little bit of melon. Mmm, yum. On my skin, the apples come out. Juicy, crisp green apples, freshly bitten into. Some sort of pale musk comes out after a couple of hours, but I don't get the mint that some are mentioning, Maybe a touch of ozone, with what seems like some florals trying to peek through the apple. I'm not normally for light scents, but this one is definitely gorgeous enough to keep.

Perpetuum Bonum
young_devilry replied to LiberAmoris's topic in Prosperity, Success, and Good Fortune
I'll admit that I didn't quite pay attention to the scent itself, so this is mostly just effect. The first time I wore it, I didn't see much luck, good or bad, or any difference in the way my day went, so I decided to wait it out until I felt a need to use it. Well, yesterday, something told me to pull it out, so I put a little dab over my heart, and a tiny dot on my forehead, and wished for some good luck for the day, in a very general sense. At work, the member of the group that causes the most trouble left early, the rest of the group was very lighthearted [when usually they are not at all], and things just went great. Today, I had the same feeling, and did the same little ritual. The one thing we had been begging for months for, lack of work, was finally offered, the payroll came in early for everyone [that was luck for others, not me], my doctor visit went very nice and smooth, and when I checked my bank account a few minutes ago, I found out that my paycheck had been direct deposited in a day earlier than it usually does, which cushioned my dwindling account after paying my rent. So far, so good. Now if only I could get some other blends to work this well... -
This was standing on the crest of the red dunes in the middle of the desert, the hot sand shifting between your bare toes while the wind brings the scent of soft, red musk and incense that drifts from a passing breeze that gently plays with your hair while you stare out into the sunset, divided yet determined. Beautiful.

MEAD MOON Golden mead, fermented with gruit, nutmeg, clove, cinnamon, ginger root, sweet-briar, rosemary, and lemon. For me, both wet and dry on the skin, this was pure honey and amber. It smells great, and was what I was hoping O would smell like, but I was hoping that the nutmeg and cinnamon would peak through a little more and give it some depth. I think I'll hang on to it for a while to see if age helps.

Sexy, Smutty, Seductive, Provocative... It's All in Here

Dorian doesn't have even the slightest hint of lavender, to me. I don't really know what the term 'fougere' means, though I do think that in the way the description for Dorian is worded, that it might just be a fancy, or perhaps French term for the word perfume. There might be someone on the board who knows for sure. -

I usually tend more twards the 'sexy' blends myself, like Mme. Moriarty, Snake Charmer, Scherezade and other which I love, but I've also had sexy compliments towards blends that have vanilla in them; one in particular was Antique Lace. I feel comfortable in it, not sexy like the others, but I've had men tell me that the vanilla is a turn on to them. Another one that I've had extreme luck with is Dorian, especially after it's aged a few months. Devil's Night '06 is also such a hit [and a true favorite of mine] that I may have to buy another bottle. One of my male friends recently called it an 'erection scent' because he was so turned on every time I wore it. I don't think the last few have any notes that you listed in them, so whether they help you or not I don't know. I just know how well they work for me. -
What scent I got from this was a light honey, though if truth be told, I wasn't much noting the smell at the time I used it. I had just been pushed out of a relationship that was neither mine nor his choice, and to say it was a bad experience is the understatement of the century. Money also hasn't been great for me for a long time, so while I was far from expecting love and hundred dollar bills to fall from the sky, I thought that a little boost might be in order. I sat myself down for a few moments of quiet when I applied it, to clear my mind and focus on the intent that I had for the day. To move past the old love and be open to a new one, to get just that little push towards the right direction, to have a little love for the time that I am here. I made a tiny x on the back of my neck, across my heart and a touch to each wrist, below the palm. Almost immediately I became somewhat grounded, and I felt a lot calmer than I had in days. Barely minutes later, I made a discovery cleaning my room that lead to a free benefit through my credit card, as well as finding out that my report had gome up a couple of points. Despite cleaning house, which I rarely like, I was in high spirits and they rose a little more to find out that I had a few extra dollars in the bank than I had originally thought. While I can't really contribute this all to the oil, I was sure that it had opened my mind and feelings towards accepting them. Later that night, I quite enjoyed a few hours shooting pool at a local bar, which is a bit of a rarity. One of the bouncers was extremely friendly and flirty with me, and while I am normally shy and quiet, found myself at comfort talking to him about a great many things. I also found one of the other bouncers trying to hang around me, and got a few more looks than I usually receive. Was it all coincidence, or was the oil partly to blame? I'm interested in using it more often, and even if it's just a chance of luck, the grounding and lift of my spirits made a possibly disasterous day [which it had started out to be] turn into one that I greatly enjoyed, and will remember for some time. I do believe that there is something both wonderous and mysterious about this blend, and I am positive that I will be forever thankful for those subtle little pushes that it's given me.

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?
young_devilry replied to beetiger's topic in Recommendations
My nephew is 4, and absolutely loves my oils. He often comes into my room asking for some 'smell good stuff' and can sometimes be found sneaking into them. For the most part I just let him dig into my imp box, and then tell him the name of which one it is he picked [well, most of the time] and let him sniff it before putting some on the side of his hands. He's not all that picky, but is very fond of the the Ars Draconis line. This morning's adventure included Serpent's Kiss and him bouncing over the fact that he smelled spicy and like peppers. Then he got a sniff of my Skuld tainted wrist and literally attached his nose to my wrist. -

Sharp lemon, which was actually quite nice to lay down and close my eyes to. It took an hour to fall asleep, which was actually quite good for me, and it gave me very vivid dreams. Nothing bad, but I think it tapped into my subconscious wishing. I did wake up once due to a restless cat, and even though it had only been a couple of hours, it had already faded. I dabbed the tiniest bit more on my hands and was out like a light. I definitely plan on using my imp, and will eventually get a 5 ml of this.

I'm slowly working through the Dream Formulas, and tried Baku out for the first time last night. A small dab to my pillow with the imp wand brought a huge wave of eucalyptus. It was very strong, which makes me think that turning it into a spray might help lessen the intensity. Unfortunately for me, I got a rather backward turn of events with this. The smell of Baku on my pillow actually induced nightmares, and I eventually had to turn over my pillows and put Somnus on them and my hands. It helped, but every time I caught a hint of Baku the bad images came back up. Since I am not one to just give up on a blend, I plan on trying this again in the future and hope it returns different results.

In the bottle: I can smell the patchouli, but it's softer than I'm used to [which is nice, since I'm usually not that enthusiastic about patchouli]. I'm thinking the amber is probably the cause. Wet: Definitely patchouli, though the cinnamon has come out as well. Drydown: When my wrists are at a distance, the sandalwood is the most prominent, with just a hint of the cinnamon coming out. Considering that I barely put a dot on each wrist, the throw is nice. Up close, it's all melded so well that I wouldn't be able to tell one note from another without knowing what they were to begin with. After a while the sandalwood fades into the background, and I'm left with somewhat sharp, spicy scent that really does remind me of the word 'sin.' Final note: This is actually the second time I tried Sin. The first time it was fresh from the lab and the patchouli completely overpowered everything else. I let it sit for a few weeks, and now I like it enough that while I don't know about buying a bottle, I will definitely keep the imp and wear it.

In the bottle: Almonds galore! Not sharp or bitter, but a strong, sweet almond that was so good I couldn't put the imp back down for a good five minutes. Wet: Since this was a frimp and not one I would have thought to test out myself, I was a little wary about. I just barely dabbed it on my wrist, which turned out to be a wise choice. The almond immediately disappeared and was completely overwhelmed by the cinnamon. It didn't burn my skin, but it smelled like it was. Like I had some of those Red-Hot candies into my arm. Drydown: The almond didn't return, and the cinnamon was still hot and overwhelming. I was tempted to wash it off, but decided to wear it out. After about three hours the cinnamon finally tempered itself to the point of being tolerated and I could get the occasional whiff of neroli. It lasted for several hours, and I could still catch the hint of cinnamon in the morning. Final note: I'd like to give this another try, perhaps using it in a spray or with lotion to tone it down a little. I would probably recommend it to anyone who loves cinnamon, since I'm sure that it was my own chemistry that made that note in particular go crazy.
