    The Darkling Thrush

In the bottle: snow, we slushy snow that Beth does so well, along with mint and violes. Wet: slushy snow, and violets with a hint of mint. Dry down: still lovely cold and wet slushy snow. I hope this comes back next year, I love this. 30 minutes: snow, cold and slushy with violets, and the amber has come out ever so slightly. Small and flighty just like the Thrush. Amber gives this just a touch of warmth in an otherwise cold landscape. I can see myself looking out over a snow covered countryside in England, standing at a wrought iron gate in Victorian garb. My violet perfume mingling with the scent of snow. Beautiful! Conclusion: one of my favorite Yulies! Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Halôa

In the bottle: buttery cakey goodness with a slight berry undertone from the wine. Wet: wine really amps up as this hits my skin and the cakes go into the background. No olive leaf yet. Dry down: wine, cakes and olive leaf which grounds it all and makes it blend together. 30 minutes: a sophisticated berry and olive leaf perfume. Less foody than I anticipated. The olfactory cakes have gone to the background and give this a creamy base. Conclusion: creamy berry olive leaf. Very seasonal. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4.
  3. In the bottle: woody aquatics wit a spicey undertone. Ohh, this is very promising. Wet: woody aquatic with spice lingering underneath. Dry down: woody aquatic and the cassia comes out to play and stops hiding. This is like a masculine version of my beloved Priala. The aquatic (they are on an island after all) really smooths this out and makes it more understated than Priala. 30 minutes: lovely aquatic spicey woods, very well blended and smooth. Priala likes to hit you on the nose, this is more of a "get closer" kind of scent. Conclusion: Wild Men is the brother to Priala. I love them both. This is definitely horde worthy and I will be getting extra bottles of this before it goes poof. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    The Castle

In the bottle: Dragon's Blood, with something else I cannot place. I suck at telling the individual notes where Beth is concerned, she blends them so well. Wet: Dragon's Blood, and something salty and rotten. Dry down: Dragon's Blood and something rotten. 30 minutes: mostly Dragon's Blood, but I amp DB. Conclusion: I am hoping this is just a time of the month chemistry thing. When I bought The Castle it smelt wonderful on me, so much so a friend bought a bottle ( everybody say Hey for enabling). But now it is rotteness with DB. Will have to try it again. Rating 1-5: inconslusive.

    Carfax Abbey

In the bottle: incense, lovely smokey incense. Wet: church incense with stone. Dry down: church incense with stone. I love this! 30 minutes: incense with a light fresh feel. Conclusion: this one is horde worthy. It definitely did not get ordered enough. I love incense scents, so I knew this was no brainer. It has only improved with age. Rating 1-5: this is a 5.

    Quincey Morris

In the bottle: sweet brown leather. Not the black dangerous S & M leather of Count D, but cowboy leather. Beth and her labbies are amazing. I don't know how they do it, but if I ever move to CA, I will beg for a job so I can learn. Wet: brown worn in leather, and pear. Dry down: leather chaps and pear. This is fresh and clean, more Summer to me than Fall. 30 minutes: leather and pear. This is really lovely, gender neutral I would say. Conclusion: this is a comforting scent, and will be great to wear during the hot Summer months. Quincey is sunshine in the darkness that is the Autumn months. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Count Dracula

In the bottle: leather and nutmeg, very nice combo. Wet: leather and nutmeg. Dry down: leather, nutmeg, ginger. The leather is black leather, not brown leather like in Quincey Morris. This is dark and dangerous leather. The nutmeg really comes out, trying to drag ginger out from behind the curtains. Tonka is lending a smooth creaminess to this, and the coffin wood and patchouli make a nice base. 30 minutes: black leather, nutmeg and sexy mens cologne. Count D is definitely the bad boy your parents don't want you dating. Conclusion: This is fantastic. Definitely for men or women who want to wear this when they are being a bad animal. Love this! Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5. Note: this is a review of an aged bottle, as when I first got Count D, it didn't smell as good on. This one aged beautifully.

    Creepy

In the bottle: caramel, straight up. Yumm.... Wet: apple crisp and lovely drenched in creamy gooey caramel. This is surprisingly light and fresh for something this foody and for Autumn. Dry down: crisp red apple with caramel, still light and fresh. Good for a sparkling Fall days, not a evening scent. Conclusion: surpisingly less foody than I thought. The rum gives it that underlying oomph. Again, this is a daytime Fall scent, going out with friends to walk around the lake or pick pumpkins in a farmer's field. I was dubious about this one but bought a bottle anyway. So glad I did. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Oborot

In the bottle: salt water and cedar. This is promising. I love earthy, scents. I love aquatic scents, so I love this. Wet: salt water, cedar and wet freshly turned earth like I am standing on a cliff with pines after a rain, and the ocean is below me on a moonlit night. Very nice. Dry down: salt water, cedar and wet earth. This is clean and earthy at the same time, combining two of my favorite BPAL elements, earthy and aquatic. Thank you Beth and the labbies! You're geniuses I tell you, geniuses! 30 minutes: salt water, cedar, fresh earth. This is the stuff. Conclusion: clean, earthy, and definitely horde worthy. If you don't like aquatics you might not like this one. If you are worried that it is too masculine, well, the aquatics soften it so give it a try. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Doc Constantine (2006)

In the bottle: smokey cedar, ooh yeah baby! Wet: smokey cedar, and I am in love! Dry down: smokey cedar, and the smoke amps up. I love smoke so this is continuing to rock my world. 30 minutes: smokey cedar with an underlying creaminess. Conclusion: love, love, love this! Smokey, woodsey, with a creamy base. This is more "masculine" but for girls like me who like to wear "masculine" this is a must have. I will be hording bottles and wishing the carnival would stay around forever. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Bluebeard

In the bottle: lavender and green herbs, vetiver, I think. Wet: Lavender with a violet chaser. This is surprisingly soft and stays close to the skin, even at this stage. Dry down: lavender has decided to take over the show and make this a production of Pirates of Penzance. This isn't forbidding at all. Infact, Vetiver has decided to be the stage manager and is behind the scenes. Lavender is the star, and violet is the understudy. This is light hearted and lovely. 30 minutes: lavender is still dancing and singing on stage, "I am the very model of a modern Major General..." at the top of his lungs. Violet is standing on the side of the stage and Vetiver is back stage keeping things running. Still not dark or forbidding, but light, fresh, and clean. Conclusion: on me this is a beautiful lavender blend. The only note that dominates is the lavender, but it is softened by all the other notes, especially violet. Much like Marie's tea rose softened and made smooth by Violet. In fact those two scents are like the male and female haves to a perfect couple. I may have to try and blend them together. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4.

    Marie

In the bottle: soft florals, violets and roses in antique porcelain vase. Wet: soft true tea rose. I smell exactly like I buried my nose in a blossom of "Our Lady of Guadalupe" tea rose. Soft pink rose. The violet is really understated and gives this a nice undertone. Dry down: soft tea rose. No baby powder, no old lady. Not that cheap awful tea rose perfume that you can get at the chemists. It smells just like I have a real blossom stuck to my wrist. A wrist corsage of pink tea rose and some violets. Beth you are incredible. 30 minutes: real pink tea rose. Conclusion: read my other reviews and you will realize I have a real aversion to florals. But thanks to Beth and the labbies, I now have learned to embrace some florals. This one is true pink tea rose. The violet does not make itself known up front but is content to hang in the shadows supporting her sister. This is utterly femm, totally lovely. I wore this to do ritual for the Blue Moon last night. I felt beautiful and ethereal wearing this while drawing down the moon. This is yet another floral I can wear. Thanks Beth! Rating 1-5: On my skin this is a 4. edited due to my doofy spelling.

    I Died For Beauty

In the bottle: creamy blooms. Wet: creamy blooms Dry down: candy sweet florals. Uh oh, I was afraid of this. My chemistry likes to take florals and make them into candy, or powder. I was left to hope the grave loam and frankincense would ride to my rescue. 30 minutes: the sweetnes turned to honey, though that is not listed. Honey with light florals and frankincense and loam. Nice. Conclusion: I like this more than I thought I would. It is lovely on me once the frankincense and grave loam temper the flowers. In fact this becomes a beautiful sophisticated womanly perfume. I am not sure about the dry down. Can I live with that stage until its loveliness is revealed? Rating 1-5: inconclusive due to need for further testing.

    Pontarlier

In the bottle: green fresh ferns and lilac. Wet: green fresh ferns, lilacs, lavender and bitter Absinthe. Dry down: lilacs and ferns, with Absinthe and sugar. 30 minutes: lilacs, ferns, and Absinthe. Conclusion: I am with Luckybuzz, I am not a floral girl and expected to sniff this, try it and immediately give it to my buddy Mandragora. But I love it!!!! I can see myself sitting in a black wrought iron chair at a black wrought iron table on a warm evening. I sit outside a cafe where golden light spills out from gaslight. The street lights on the cobblestone street in front of me are gaslights. Horse drawn carriages and pedestrians in Victorian garb walk by. The cafe has huge lilac bushes and ferns growing near the tables. I sit and sip my Absinthe in a glass with a metalwork holder and slotted spoon on the table with remants of the sugar cubes I melted into the glass. Someone plays a violin nearby. Nice job evoking a place Beth and labbies. Nicely done indeed. Big bottle in the future! Rating 1-5: this is a 5.

    Uruk

In the bottle: sweet almond. Not cherries which sometimes you get when smelling a lot of almond scents. Wet: sweet almond and saffron, with dusty stone walls. I can see golden clay walls with sun bouncing off them. I love this stage. Dry down: a sophisticated sweet almond, saffron, and dusty stone. If this stays true, I am going to need a big bottle. 30 minutes: Lovely sophisticated perfume. All the notes blend together so well that I cannot tell them apart. The whole creates this loveliness that wafts around me. Conclusion: Uruk is one of my favorite cities. I learned about it in Art History class, as well as my archeology and classics classes. I was hoping this would smell good on me, and it does! I am so happy. I need a big bottle of this. Thanks Beth and labbies! Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Goneril

In the bottle: I suck at telling individual notes with BPAL because Beth is a blending genius, and I am a doofus. To me this smells like a perfume for a sophisticated and refined woman. Not perfume counter perfume, but well made expensive perfume. Wet: this is sophisticated perfume that is just "old lady" waiting to happend with my stupid chemistry. Dry down: musty soapy rose smell. Dammit! I wanted to have a heart of cruelty. Cedarwood where are you? 30 minutes: tea rose, a very nice tea rose. Sometimes I dispair of my chemistry. Conclusion: I may try it again just to make sure it isn't hormones making this funky. But I cry. I like Goneril in King Lear. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 3.

    Gluttony

In the bottle: hazelnut cake, buttercream icing with surgared pralines in a carmel sauce on top. Oh my! Wet: same. But Cacie's review was dead on, brownies (chocolate hazelnut brownies) burned slightly with tofee sauce with sugared pralines and a cup O' Joe. Dry: same. I am getting very hungry, *contemplates eating arm.* 30 minutes: same. This really bad if you are on a diet and watching what you eat! Conclusion: I can't wait to try the other six sins. This is positively hedonistic. I would like to put this in a soap. I am going to have to read up on how to do that. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 3.5 - 4.

    Jailbait

In the bottle: Twizzlers! This must be the red lollies I smell. Wet: Twizzlers and Bazooka Joe's, or and Naamah Darling so eloquently put it, those gumballs you get out of machines for a quarter. Dry down: I smell like a bag of Hallowe'en candy after all the real chocolate and tootsie rolls are gone. You know the smell. When only hard candy, like lollies, and gobstoppers, Twizzlers, bubblegum, and fire balls are left; and the bag has been sitting on top of the counter for the last three months. I love it! I had no I idea I would like this, but I do! 30 minutes: Oh I do love this. Now it is perfume scent that screams SEX! I so see this as a 14 year old girl dressed in a slinky dress, heavy makeup, high heals. She is out trolling for some older guy, who thinks she is in her twenties. Like that rap song by Wil Smith, where he picks up a 14 year old going on 30. Lolita would have smelled like this ( I have no idea what Beth's Lolita smells like yet, hehe). I feel naughty in this. Conclusion: I smell like naughty candy. Mama likey. Oh I feel like a very very bad girl wearing this. I need a spanking. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4.5.

    Les Fleurs du Mal

In the bottle: rose, lilac, and wisteria. Wet: I can wear lilac and rose as long as they are tempered with something non floral to ground them. I don't know about wisteria. I am not even sure what wisteria smells like. I smell like Jasmine, strong nasty jasmine. I was afraid of this. I can't wear florals as a general rule. Dry down: I am surprised this made it to the dry down, and I am not sure I will make it to my usual 30 minutes +. This is really strong and really nasty with my skin chemistry. This would smell absolutely divine on my mum, or even my friend Mandragora. 30 minutes: is there some sort of BPAL medal for valor? I have pledged to try every BPAL if I can, even the ones I think are going to smell like ass on me. This one is sooooo nasty on me. The florals have all jumped me, and beaten me and taken my wallet. I feel like the fax machine in Office Space. UGH, and it has this tremendous throw so I smell like floral ass even from 30 feet. Oh my! Conclusion: my inability to wear this lovely blend has nothing to do with Beth and everything to do with my stoopid chemistry. But, as I said, Mum could wear this and smell like a goddess. So Mum gets a present and I get to enable yet another possible victim of BPALitis. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 1.

    Villain

In the bottle: leather and lavender? I don't smell the lime, though I suspect that it is the note giving this a crispness. Wet: lavender fouge (did I spell that right?) This is definitely a Victorian Men's cologne. Love this! Dry down: Victorian Men's cologne. It is so well blended I can't seperate the notes, and the lavender is dominant. It is not so dominant that it is a single note lavender. There is definitely other notes in, it just all goes together so well. And I am watching Masterpiece Theater with a British Victorian period piece. So this is perfect! 30 minutes: same as it ever was. It is very consistant, doesn't morph and is quite lovely. Conclusion: as a girl who likes to wear "masculine" scents. I like this very much. Imp will be used. Big bottle? Hmmm, so many other scents I love more. But I will not swap away any imps I get of this. This is a Victorian male villian with depth, as Naamah posted. So dead on. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4.

    House of Night

In the bottle: soft night blooming flowers just opening at twilight. In fact if I had a scent the envoked a time of day this would be it. Twilight, my favorite time of day. Wet: Lovely light florals, green stems and stone? This is very grounded for a floral. A floral I can wear. Not funky jasmine or paperwhites. Just soft blooms, and something woody and maybe stone, to keep them from floating away. Dry down: same as wet and in the bottle. This is one very consistant BPAL scent. I love this. It makes me think of twilight in the backyard of some old clapboard house with a stone foundation that backs up to the woods. It is negelected and the grass is growing high. Twilight falls and the fireflies come out to dance and the shadows under the trees get deeper and longer and darker. Great job Beth! 30 minutes: doesn't change, except that the woody, stone aspects deepens. Conclusion: This is grounded, and yet light. Great throw. I love this. The imp will get used and then I think a big bottle will be needed for soft summer evenings. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 5.

    Oberon

In the bottle: faint green floral. Wet: green, light masculine floral. Smells like Spring in a bottle. Dry down: green floral, and pickles? And I was worried about amping the flowers, HAH! 30 minutes: ok the pickle smell didn't last long. Apparently the picnic held in the woods moved on and I am left with flowers and green grass and herbs. Conclusion: I wasn't sure about this one. I tend not to wear florals, as they smell like old lady and ass on me. But thanks to Beth and the labbies, I am rethinking my absolutely no florals policy. I kept catching wiffs of something beautiful throughout the night and realized it was me. A big bottle of this one is called for. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4.5.

    The Dormouse

In the bottle: melon and tea. Melon??? hmmm maybe the peony is registering as melon to my nose. Wet: crisp green melon sitting in a bowl on a table laden with fine china a white linen tatted tablecloth and a silver tea set. A vase of peonies sitting to the center of the table. Ohhh I like this very much. Dry down: still the same as when wet. 30 minutes: unfortunately my skin is eating this up. all that remains are the peonies. The melon has been eaten, the tea drank. But I don't mind reapplying. Conclusion: I have loved every MTP I have had the priviledge of trying save one and that wasn't a hate just a meh. I intend to try them all. Beth you rock! Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4 due to it fading so quickly on me.

    The King of Hearts

In the bottle: black cherry and lavender. Yummy. Wet: black cherry and lavender. Dry down: as sarahmarie said, this becomes a classic cologne. Lavender with cherry underneath. The rosewood as a base. I am in love! 30 minutes: this was a love a ffair meant to be. Lavender, rosewood and a hint of cherry with musk making everything smooth. Ohhhh yeah! Conclusion: I must get a big bottle. Hail to the King baby! Rating 1-5: 5
  25. Neely

    Tweedledum

In the bottle: Ok green mango smells like passion fruit to me. This smells like passion fruit in the bottle. Wet: passion fruit, hehe. Dry down: this turns into a sophisticated perfume. A fruit tea being sipped in some exotic local with a rainforest, while sitting on dark wood furniture covered in white linen cushions while sitting in Victorian white summer dress with a hat with a veil on it like something off of Masterpiece Theater. Very, very lovely. 30 minutes: still beautiful sophistcated perfume made with fruit tea. Still Masterpiece Theater. I like Tweedledum better than his brother, but both are nice summer fragrences. Tweedledum is more sophisticated while 'Dee is more playful on me. Conclusion: I like this very much. Eventually it just becomes mango tea, no cream no sugar. 'Dee for summer days, 'Dum for summer nights out on the town. Rating 1-5: on my skin this is a 4-4.5.
