    Lust

LUST!!! Well, I'm a sucker for red musk blends and tend to veer towards them at breakneck speed so of course. I had to try Lust!! This when wet is..POW! I'm wearing perfume and I want everyone to know about it!!! It's smoky...it's sexy..it's animalistic and it's goooood! It reminds me a hell of alot of Spellbound, but Spellbound's leather wearing "Gonna whip your ass" sister or something. Spellbound would be the happier bouncier fluffy sister and Lust would be the one that's the the tearaway...hehe. Sorry got carried away there! The patchouli grounds it alot and gives it that darker edge while the Ylang Ylang is trying to make it more pleasant to my nose. It's an orgy of smells all trying to clamber over each other!! The colour of the oil is scary...a very very dark brown/red. So..it makes a statement in that way too. When it's dry, the musk comes out a hell of a lot more...the other notes have died down alot and it's just very very musky and sexy. It's like the calm after the climax!!! lol!! Love it! x Ouch!

    Faiza, the Black Mamba (2006)

The wet stage of this blend is absolutely gorgeous!! But like most peple have said...there's ALOT going on. I tend to amp vanilla so, it's giving this (still in the wet stage) a nice soft edge. I'm not sure that it smells dark as such. To me it's really really pleasant and bright..the orange is there ever so slightly and the white honey is probably the thing I can pick out most..it's adding to the sweetness!. I'm trying to describe the overall smell and it's extremely difficult! It's not a floral...it's more like a fruity scent with a blanket of hazy sweetness over it. It's soft...but sharp at the same time....I really really like it! Ok so when it's dry it is defiantely different, it has lost all of it's magic for me. It's all about the wet stage with this one!!! It smells kind of stale to me....kind of sharp floral...probably the Jasmine. Vanilla is there hanging on for dear life but not doing very well! It's just a bit meh...ad for this reason. I don't think I'd buy a bottle!

    Thanatos

Hmm...I'm not sure if there's something wrong with my nose recently but all the imps I'm picking out at random to use (until finihsed) seem to be very Meh scents on me.. Thanatos is probably the nicest of the Meh's I'm getting recently though At first it's..quite a strong floral, very sweet and very powerful... there is someting else there, but it's not moss...or Sandalwood..I think it's the myrrh that's giving it a slightly darker edge. It's sweet but slightly dark. So when it's dry...the floral in this has pretty much stomped out aything else that was there, the Myrrh is still there slightly but..no sign of anything green, or incensey which is slightly upsetting.. ah well! ETA: Ok..I have had a few whiffs of the incencey note. But it's only appeared a few times, and this is after I've applied it a couple of times over.. I'll still use the imp up but this will be the last time we meet Thanatos!

    Aureus

Hmmm...I I really don't know what to make of this...I was hoping for soething completley different from the description.. It smells like wood....but...wet, damp wood with mould on it. Sorry, that's the only way I can describe it...I suppose it must be some sort of Sandalwood, possibly even patchouli. Not Golden, or anything to do with brightness. Sorry short review but, I feel strangely about this one. ouch!

    Wings of Azrael

Florals....that are darkened by the Myrrh, sadly this is not a WOWZERS jumping out at me perfume...but..like 99% of the time with BPAL, it's still pleasant. Once it's dry a bit more the Myrrh fades out and it turns....powerdy!! A very soft powdery floral. I don't know if that's supposed to happen because I never get the dreaded powder crazy chemistry thing, but it that's what i'm getting now... Overall..it's nothing special...even though it's one of the most beautifully named oils I've come across!!!

    Coral Snake (2006)

Lovely lovely lovely!!! At first, as most people have said..yes. Apples.....the same apple that's in "Poisoned Apple" A very bright apple. It does have some resemblance to Australian Copperhead. The snake oil is there immediately on me too, giving the apple a musky edge, I can smell the blood orange ever so slightly too but no Lemon whatsoever. I also cannot detect Gardenia at all, which I'm quite thankful for as I tend to amp it like crazy and it can take over everything.. In this case the snake oil is winning YAY!! I'm not really sure what plumeria smells like, but this blend is not one bit floral with my chemistry, it's all fruit at first which quickly fades into a much much sweeter version of snake oil. If you took the spice and exoticness out of snake oil and replaced it with sugar..... That's what this smells like once it's dry! It's lovely!

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

Hear Hear!! I feel exactly the same!!!!

    Eternal

Ok, Me not being a fan of crazy florals, I was worried about wearing this. Also because Gardenia has ruined blends for me in the past. It was a frimp...so...of course I'm always grateful to try anything new!!! This..is a mass of swirling flowers, Gardenia most prominent at first. Thank god though...it doesn't overtake this blend. It's much calmer thatn usual with my chemistry. I cannot detect rose in this.. If it's there it's being beaten down by the other flowers. Once the Gardenia calms down even more, this does go extremely soapy and floral on me..I think it might be the first soapy incident I've had. I cannot pick out things individually but...yup...a whole mass of flowers. (Maybe I have an untrained nose) It's still really nice, but...it's not something I would have bought before. Thanks labbies for enabling me to try this blend!!!

    Grandmother of Ghosts

This is yet another blend for me where I'm toying with...do I like it? Is it quite special? or is it not? Whatever it is, it's nice. When it's wet the most predominant notes are the woods and the mandarin for me. At no point can I detect white musk in this. I think white musk would have spoiled this blend for me if it was more obvious. It is musky, but not that crisp white musk. It's more of a sensual musk. It's very bright even though it's woodsy. I'm not too sure what stargazer lily smells like so...I'm not sure but it's definately a mix between woodsy/floral/fruity. This blend turns so much more fun when it's dry, the peony sweetens it up a hell of alot and the woods have dissapeared, in fact the woods were only there for about a minute or two. So when it's dry it's much more of a sweet fruity floral. It's very pleasant and bright. It doesn't have the craziest amount of throw but, it's definately there!!! Overall it's not a KNOCKOUT omg I have to have a bottle scent. But I'm glad I got to try it. ETA: I think I'd really like to smell this on someone else, only because I feel like I might be missing something special about it and sometimes it's hard to smell things properly on yourself! *goes to grab unsuspecting friend* Ouch!

    Mata Hari

This blend is crazy!!!! It was a frimp from the lab, I never would have ordered it so.. thanks labbies! It's exrtremely powerful is the first thing I'd like to say, and it's the first blend I've tried with coffee in it. Jasmine and coffee kick you in the face at first. And I'm getting alot of complaints from people that sit around me at work. It's causing such a stir that it's making me feel mischevious! I want to apply lots and lots and make people talk!!!! Some people think it's horrible and some people really like it!!! To me, before I knew what the ingredients were I thought this smelled like pure Gardenia. How wrong was I. It's the Jasmine! Anyway.......Luckily for me my Chemistry amps vanilla, so... that does come forward on drydown. The coffee bean dissapears. But the Jasmine just stays and stays and stays with the roses bareley noticable. This really has some staying power too.. one application across the wrist seems to last for hours. I think I'll send this to someone in my next swap though. ETA: I think I can only truly appreciate this blend once it's dried down completley. And I mean COMPLETLEY. The vanilla softens what otherwise was a crazy powerful blend and the roses appear. (I'm still getting over the throw of this blend, it's a rival to Highwayman)

    What scents are masculine? Gender-neutral?

I was also going to mention Vicomte De Valmont. It is at first a bit too much like Lynx deodrant, But when it's dry it's so much nicer...Yum! Also Casanova was one of the first Bpals I tried and I'm not really a fan of majorly masculine scents (Even though I am a lad). But it was still really really nice. Scarecrow is probably the nicest of the "masculine" blends I've treid.. Having said all of that, I'll wear anything from Scherezade to Aunt Caroline's Joy Mojo! (That was just my two pennies worth) *shuffles away surreptitiously*

    Budding Moon

This is SWEET! Extremely sweet on me and my chemistry is eating it up so fast. It has a medium amount of throw but doesn't last too long unfortunately. Anyways, I think I can mainly smell the Peony in this. And to me it smells like a sweet fizzy floral, the fizziness that I can smell in croquet and Xanthe. I'd love to be able to say I can smell chinese musk because it sounds interesting but sadly. Hmph!!! I can detect no ginger at all. It's just an extremely bright and sweet floral!! I think this would be nice as a summer/spring scent. Maybe for a younger person. I'm not screaming from the rooftops about this one unfortunately. But it is pleasant enough to have in imp form!!

How long do bottles & imps last?

I've never actually finished a bottle either, but not because my chemistry eats scents and things. It's just a case of...I'm going through my imps one at a time until they're finished then buying a bottle if I really really like them. I think the day I finish a bottle will be really horrible. What do I do with it? Do I throw it away? (Is this a sin?) Do I keep it to put spare imps of the same scent in? (Sin also?) Do I send it on to another forumite for sniffie purposes? It's difficult and I don't want to reach that point lol. The closest I am to finishing a bottle is my bottle of Snake Oil, which I have had for a year almost. It's probably got a quarter left and it's a scary thing to look at (Even though I have another back up bottle ) They just look so much nicer when they're full! I have a hard enough time when an imp is finished let alone a whole bottle. Ok..I may have just ranted ever so slightly there but never mind. That's what we are here for. Just for the record, I am also VERY envious of anyone who can make a dab last for a long time....please do tell us your secret you lucky things you!!!!

    Aizen-Myoo

I, like many people on here, am not familiar with what Kaki, Yuzu or Mikan are. However, this starts out with a lot of punch! People could smell it right across the other side of my desk at the opposite end when I applied it. It smells extremely fresh, floral & citrussy. (I hate to say it but it's almost like air freshener). But I still think it's pleasant though, even if it's slightly soapy. This lasts for about 5 or 10 minutes and then it changes, as I said, I'm not familiar with some of the notes but..I'm guessing one of them might be a wood? A very light wood though. Almost like blondewood. I'm probably wrong but it's there somewhere. I think this is where the tea can be more noticed too, once it's dry. Because now it smells very dry. I think I much prefer the wet stage even if it's a bit soapy and strong!!

    Khephra

Hmmm.... I never bought this one it was a freebie from a lovely forumite. Wish I could remember who now! (Sorry). This is definately Herby/Incensey. And I think there's possibly amber too. It's actually quite pungent. And it just reminds me of one of those vintage perfumes that comes in the vintage spray bottles you have to squeeze. (I can't explain that very well sorry) One that would be sitting on a fancy dressing table a long time ago. It's quite heady. And definately an evening scent which is quite fitting considering it's the Midnight sun!!! Would never have bought a bottle of this, but would have given it to a sophisticated friends (If I had any..all of my friends are crazy). ETA: It smells slightly of vinegar on drydown....

    Alice

This is the first Bpal blend I've tried with Honey in it where the honey is not predominant. In fact, I can hardly detect it. The rose in this is gorgeous, it's the same rose that I can smell in Othello (Which I absolutely adore). It's not your traditional rose...it's more of a powdery softer rose....it's really nice. It blends well with the Bergamot which I can also smell. I think the "Milk" note that's apparent in other blends is what gives Alice it's perfumey quality...at the same time being creamy! It's very feminine and the more I apply the more I like!! Where is the Carnation? I love Carnation and I can't find it? It's overall a very very pretty scent, there's only a bit of throw on me and it wears off quite quickly.

    Al-Shairan

This is blended soooo nicely! I'm not a fan of either Clove or Cinnamon (on my skin) and this was a frimp. I never would have ordered it. All other BPAL blends I've tried with Cinnamon have been totally dominated by the Cinnamon. This is not the case with this blend. The orange is quite predominant when it's wet but as it dries the orange goes back and forth from being faint to being in the forefront. The peach is definately there too which keeps the cinnamon from putting me off this scent!. It does smell like a sort of Christmas candle or...some sort of mulled wine/fruit punch. But that's not a bad thing. The description is defintely right when it says it's Bright...It is..but it's also got a dark spicy quality to it that is so nice. This blend has changed my mind about cinnamon blends now, I might go and try to rediscover Blood Moon! I wouldn't order a 5ml of this but I'm very glad I got to try it out. Thank you labbies!!!

BPAL Fruit Blends - the many variations

I haven't tried it before but have a bottle on the way of Fire Pig. Judging by the reviews that might be a good one to try if you can get your hands on it. Croquet also is quite fizzy and fruity! Hope ya find what you're looking for.

    Blood Kiss

Hmm...this one grew on me after about 5 attempts! At first I went like this It's the Red Wine note that makes me turn my nose up. It does die down though and explodes into a GORRRRRGEOUS blend indeed! The more I smell it the more it reminds me of one of my favourite BPALs ever. Sed Non Satiata. It must be the musk/honey similarity, it's thick, lucsious really strong and I've had 2 compliments already today! It's definately got that nutty undertone that SNS has. And I'm thankful that none of the booze is apparent in the dryer stages. If you want something very sexy and musky! Try this. WINNER!

    Jailbait

Well isn't this fun? At first it's definately bubblegum. But to me it's a mixture of two. It has that cinamonny bubblegum smell together with the "Original" Hubba Bubba smell. The more candy smelling bubblegum. I can only slightly detect the cherry lollipop part at this stage. And the Cinnamon bubblegum is holding the fort of the scent! Ok...so after the cinnamon bubblegum backs off a bit it definately changes to a much frutier scent! This is the nicest stage of the drydown in my opinion. It's a very soft, sweet, mainly cherry smell, with some sort or flowers hiding behind it. When it changes again...It switches to sweet cherry in the background with the flowers in front! I couldn't for the life of me tell you what the flowers are, I'm not THAT good. But all in all it's really pleasant and very true to the name. It's a young fun scent, which would be a nice gift for someone a bit younger... Having said that...I might order a 5ml! Heeeeeeeeeeee!

I'v never been charged anything either, and also..I've never had to go to the depot to pick up a delivery. I would say I have a normal sized letterbox and the parcels always fit through... My depot is so far away I think I would cry if I got a card and not the ACTUAL precioussss lol. Ouch

    Dragon's Bone

Of all the Dragon's Blood blends I think this one is the softest yet, I have Dragon's Musk but I mean soft as in the throw and roundness of the scent. This to me has that same sort of creamy softness that French Love has.. I'm not the biggest fan of Sandalwood when it takes over a blend, but because it is white sandalwood I'm taking it to mean that it's much lighter, and also the blondewood. I can''t say I know what orris smells like, but there is definately something else lurking in here. This is nice for the simple fact that it's much softer and drier than alot of Dragon's Blood blends. Because they usually kick you in the face when you apply them. This one doesn't, so if you're a fan of dragon's blood but prefer not to knock people out with it. Try this!

    Nemesis

Thinking about wiriting this review before now. I've been sitting there knowing this was going to be one of the hardest reviews I've had to write and it's because this scent just baffles me! It's a whole load of stuff that I have no idea how to describe. When wet, straight away it's sort of woody sort of smoky. This lasts about 20 seconds. Then, as it's drying it smells EXACTLY like something that lush sells and I can't put my finger on it. It's driving me crazy. I used to work there and have smelled it hundreds of times before but I just can't figure it out. It's possibly one of the massage bars...possibly fever. It's that...or it's just that entire lush smell you get when you walk in. I've been applying and waiting for this stage over and over to try and figure it out but...nothing! Anyway..it then morphs again to something MUCH sweeter. That must be the tonka...all of the spice goes away and it goes almost like sweet vanillary berries. It's so confusing haha. I definately do not detect rose or ginger. This is so bizzare, I also don't know whether I like it or not. Arrrgh! I wouldn't buy a 5ml because until I figure out what that Lushness is I'll forget about it before I go insane! *rocks back and forth holding knees to chest*

This thread is fun, and it makes me realise how WRONG I am! I say.. FAY-ZAH The black Mamba Amongst loads of others that are wrong most probably.
