The first thing that came to mind for me was Morocco. The list of notes doesn't even mention vanilla, but I get exactly the vibe you're describing. "The intoxicating perfume of exotic incenses wafting on warm desert breezes. Arabian spices wind through a blend of warm musk, carnation, red sandalwood and cassia." The incenses are smoky and the warm desert breezes are dry, I guess. I think the warm musk with the spices are what read as vanilla.

In the bottle the camphor and lavender dominate, giving a medicinal impression. Wet on my skin, the mango emerges, juicy and a bit spicy. Dry, this is one of the most beautiful blends ever. It's like a tropical fruit blossom wafting on cool evening air. So evocative and alluring. I love it!

This reminds me strongly of the wonderful unreleased 2007 BPAL Fruitcake, with rum in place of the brandy. Candied fruits and marzipan with a sweet boozy undercurrent. Yummy!

Merry Carousel, I'm thinking Cheshire Cat for you. -
Mama-Ji is a nice one. The Arabian Dance and Spanked/Spanked Revisited are also heavy on the cardamom.

I'd say take a look at Juliet, Viola, Ophelia and Cordelia and see which of these appeals most.

I'm in love with BPAL's mango note. Where is it strongest / most prominent?

TAL Scent Recommendations/Comparing TAL Scents to BPAL
Mountaingrrl00 replied to mrsveteran's topic in Recommendations
I received a decant of this rare TAL, and I love the scent so much that I'm looking for a non-ritual equivalent. To me the predominant note is a true mango, not too sweet but very aromatic. Reviews have described notes as: Mango Tropical rose Ocean Bitter fruit juices Musky Creamy tropical florals Fermented Incense Candle-wax Anything in the BPAL catalog that comes close? -
Moon Rose is rose and moonflower.

Dwarf has a nice stone note - reminds me of the Rocky Mountains. -
Sounds delicious and apt! I'm doing a singer-songwriter tonight too, and think I'll wear Leather Phoenix. And zmulls, a good friend of mine plays with Michael Ronstadt periodically -- small world!

Sea of Glass, Lady Lilith and Agape for me.

Definitely try Titania, with its lovely iced pear note.

It reminds me strongly of Monsterbait: Underpants. Pretty much stays foodie like that on my skin, too. I don't get as much copal or beeswax as I'd hoped -- perhaps they blend in with all the sweet vanilla. I like it, but don't love it.

I heartily second the Hollywood Babylon recommendation.

Opulent and fresh at the same time. The Hungary Water is spot-on, and the floral notes are so delicate and romantic. I love it, and only wish it laster longer on my skin.

I recommend trying the honeys from Rappaccini's garden, particularly Horse Chestnut Honey. -
I'm wearing Midnight Mass and will probably go with Thousands of Lights later.
