I received this as a frimp from the Lab. In the vial: aquatic and salty. This smells like the breeze off the ocean a few hours before a storm. Reminds me of late summer at the beach. Wet: This smells like the beach after a storm. Aquatic, salty and herbal. Dry: Aquatic and herbal. This is a very interesting unisex blend. I like it because it reminds me of the beach.

In the imp: Dirt, swirly dark booze, faded flowers. Wet: Damp earthiness, faded flowers and the dark booze note. Dry: Very earthy. It is a pleasant smell, like when I've been out planting. While it is pleasant, I don't think I care to wear this smell as perfume.

In the bottle: soft floral blend with lavender, and some sandalwood spice. Wet: strong floral blend. Lots of throw. Dry: Rose! Very strong rose that is giving me a headache. This is a pretty blend in the bottle, but unfortunately, it did not agree with my skin chemistry.

I just had to order this since I am a huge fan of the book. In the bottle: sweetness, lemon and something deeper. Musk? Wet: Sweet floral with musky undertones. Lots of throw. Dry: Sweet light musk. Reminds me of the perfume that I wore when I was Lolita's age. This is a great scent for someone feeling girly and naughty .

I received this as a frimp from the lab. In the vial: Uber floral with rose and lilly dominating. Wet: Strong rose and lilly, lots of throw. Dry: Strong rose and lilly. Long lasting lots of throw. Perfect for someone looking for a long lasting rose based floral blend.

I received this as a frimp from the Lab. In the vial: sweet, subtle floral with a spicy carnation zing. Wet: Spicy carnation and honey. Dry: Carnation zing and honey. This faded very quickly on me. This is a pleasant sweet, subtle floral. I wish it had lasted longer.

I received this as a gimp from the Lab. This is my first experience with Dragon Blood resin, so I am really not sure what to expect. In the vial: Whoa! This is very strong and spicy and I am not sure that I want to try it on. I'm feeling brave, so I give it a try on my wrists. Wet: Very woodsy and spicy, and still really strong. Dry: I am pleasantly surprised! This has dried down an exotic spice top note over a dry wood base deepened by resin. What I thought would be too strong has dried down to a have light to moderate throw. I like this for myself, but I think a man could wear it, too.

I received this as a gimp from the Lab. In the vial: Tropical floral top note deepened with white musk. Wet: Wow! A tropical paradise! Tropical florals with vanilla and white musk. Moderate throw. Dry: This is fantastic! Soft tropical floral with white musk. Moderate throw. Lasts well, it is still lovely after 3 hours. I think this may be my new favorite BPAL!

I got this as a gimp from the Lab. In the vial: Herbal top notes deepened with resin and leather. Masculine, but I like it enough to try it on. Wet: Incense top note, green herbal middle note. Deepened with leather. Dry: I love this scent, although it is too masculine for me to wear. I will order a bottle for DH. Edited because I can't spell.

In the bottle: Myrrh and vetiver over a dark, complex base. Very masculine. This will be DH's first BPAL!

In the bottle: Wow, lime and bright white floral notes. Wet: Tuberose! Really strong tuberose. Now, I am getting a powdery note. Dry: Jasmine is the dominant note rounded out by white floral notes in the background. The powdery note is gone and the the lime has blended with the floral notes. Very feminine, light and pretty.

In the bottle: Wow, ripe honeydew melon! Wet: Honeydew, vanilla, and sweet floral. Dry: The floral (sunflower?) became more pronounced and the vanilla was in the background. After about 2 hours the honeydew and vanilla were the dominant notes and there was a moderate throw. A very pretty scent that reminds me of warmer months.

I had to have this scent simply because of the name! In the bottle: Roses! Deepened with something, is that the ambergris? Then I get sharp carnation. Wet: Roses, ambergris. Dry: Antique rose with damask rose. I love roses, I grow several cultivars and have them around the house all the time, but I've never worn a rose scent. I think that trend will continue. Love in the Asylum is a fantastic name and the art on the bottle is great, but the scent itself is not for me .

In the bottle: smells just like mint Girl Scout cookies! Dry down: Still mint girl scout cookies. Dry: Uh, oh. Where did this powdery scent come from? In less than half-an-hour this turned really powdery on me and I had to wash it off. This scent is not for me. Off to swaps!

In the bottle I get green tea with ginger. Wet, it is the same as it was in the imp. Dry, the tea and ginger blend beautifully and there is just the right throw. Tea scents work well for me and this is no exception. I loooove this and will need to order a big bottle!

I picked up this bottle today at Alternate Realities. In the bottle: green, white floral and sandalwood. Surprisingly masculine. Wet: green, lush dewy lily of the valley, tulip, lilac, sandalwood and white musk. Very nice! Dry: Lovely floral blend and white musk with a hint of sandalwood. The fragrance is that of a beautiful spring garden with some flowers in bloom and other just beginning to open. After three hours it is still here. Conclusion: Wonderful! I had to pay a bit of a premium for this bottle, but it was worth it!

Thank you so much. I was able to find great info on ratios and ingredients. I would hate to waste BPAL on the ol' trial and error method.

Thanks for all the hints on how to apply BPAL! I am waiting for my first order and I am planning (fantasizing?) about how I am going to wear the oils. I have a couple of questions. Is perfumer's alcohol the same as grain neutral spirits? Should I use both perfumer's oil and water to dilute the solution after mixing a few drops of the perfume oil in a carrier (jojoba) oil? Thanks!
