I kind of think Graveyard Dirt or The Lurid Library would be perfect. Your costume sounds awesome!

I considered Pickled Imp but I don't really like pine. And March Hare is tough to get. I don't get any pine from Pickled Imp, just spicey, cakey goodness. It actually reminds me the most of Gingerbread Poppet without the ginger.

I bet you'd like Pickled Imp- cinnamon, clove, vanilla, and pine sap (it's wonderful). March Hare is also a nice clove, but it's discontinued and hard to come by.

This actually reminds me quite a bit of MVJBA: Summer Summoning Spectacular, just without the smokiness. I'm not really getting any mead from this, but rather a rich, dark, spiced maple. The pumpkin is very much in the background and I smell it less as the time passes. It's very nice.

A scent redolent of the crusty exterior of burnt marshmallows. The reviews are so varied on this! I was expecting more of a foodie scent, but on me this is pretty much a straight up campfire scent. I detect a bit of sugar if I put my nose up to my wrist, but the overall throw on this is smoke and a firey-ness that I think a lot of people interpret at cinnamon. I don't know if this is a keeper for me yet, since I do have smokey scents I may like more. It needs further testing.

This is wonderful. BPALs Coffee note is one of my favorites, although I was a little worried about the rose, which is a smell I like, but it doesn't often work on my skin. The coffee and rose combine fantastically- the coffee balances out the rose so it's not too flowery (usually I'm not a fan of florals except in spring). It also has a nice wear length.

I'm giving this old thread a bump hoping for some new recommendations. It appears my skin chemistry is changing, because for years patchouli was death on my skin, but now I'm surprised to find that I'm liking a number of blends with patchouli in it (Ecstatic Revelry, Midnight Kiss, Summer Lace...), so I'm hoping for some new recommendations.

I was near positive that this was not going to work on me, since BPAL strawberry notes always take on a face smell on my skin. Not so with this! It's gorgeous and very true to the name (I actually just made chocolate covered strawberries the other day, so it's very fresh in my mind). It also has decent throw and lasts a good amount of time. I'm really glad I was able to try this!

This is wonderful, and is a beautiful, true chai tea scent. I was almost scared off from getting it by the mango, but it and the pumpkin are very much in the background to the warm spices. It's wonderful, but not really a foody blend, as it could seem from the list of notes. It's also nice because it's a spicy blend that would be good for warmer weather too (most of my other spicy fragrances- Gingerbread Poppet for example- I feel like can only be worn when it's cold). It kind of reminds me of Huesos De Santos, but is different and lovely in it's own right (and a little less foody than HDS).

This is completely different from what I was expecting after reading the reviews. It starts out with a strong cocoa note backed by musk and then fades down to a wonderful, warm, sweet musk. Some people find black musk to be dirty, but it's my favorite of the musks, not at all sharp or too bright like white musk. This is a wonderful skin scent, and lasts quite a bit too. Even my husband (who merely tolerates most of my perfume mania) said he really liked it.

I'm fond of tea scents, so when I saw this I knew I had to try it. It's a nice lemon tea scent. Lemon is the predominant note, but it's a softer lemon than many of the other lemon blends the lab has. I was hoping more more star anise, but don't really get any. Still, a nice summery blend.

Bumping this thread! Is there anything new in the past year with a coffee note? I have Pumpkin Latte and Summer Summoning Spectacular and I'm in love with the coffee note!

Beaver Moon 2005 is one of my absolute favorites and has been for years. I don't get any cheesecake from it, but just a deep dark vanilla and cake and sweetness. It is wonderful and delicious and deeper than just a "foody" scent. I was just able to try a bottle of Beaver'Versary, and I like it very much. It's different from '05 in that it's more of a chocolate cake with a slight bit of spice, cinnamon? The thing I love about it is that it has the same note as in Hunger which I always thought was black narcissus, spicy and wonderful and very distinctive. That note only lasts a half hour on my skin (as it does with Hunger) and then what's left is a nice vanilla chocolate scent. It's a dry chocolate, kind of like Gelt. So, I wouldn't say the Beaver'Versary is a replacement, but it is nice in it's own right.

I'm looking for a warm sort of mint, not peppermint, and not mint with cold or crystalline notes. The only one I can think of is The Mock Turtle's Lessons, but it wasn't good on my skin. I really like CBIHP's fresh mint tea accord (although it lasts about 5 minutes on me), so I was looking for something with a similar mint note from BPAL. I'm thinking more like a fresh mint leaf, so more herbal than aquatic I guess. I do like Gennivre, but was hoping for another that's a little more minty. I've tried a good amount of the catalog (GC and LE) from 2009 and earlier, but I haven't really tried much of anything since then, so hopefully there will be a wonderful mint that's been out in the years since I've been gone. I remember Snowblind being a nice mint, but unfortunately the vanilla note went plastic on my skin, otherwise it would probably be my perfect scent. I'd appreciate any ideas!

Questions from the Halloweenie 2008 SW Round: How do you feel about copies of music or dvd's that your witch might have that you might enjoy? Not just mixes, but whole copies? I am completely fine with it. If I like something I try to buy it (we own tons of CDs and DVDs), but I love hearing new music or finding new things to watch. Say, witches, I have a question about birthdays. do you expect/rely on other people to plans birthday outings and activities? I would like to rely on other people, but usually I have to do the planning otherwise things don't happen. Tarts? Yes/no? I do love tarts, although I don't burn them as much as I should (I actually have an electric burner and a ton of tarts to use though, so I don't need more)- I always have trouble getting the old tart out too. I do love scented candles though. I'm wondering if my witchee would like to try these types of things (like the caramel with sea salts or chocolates with chilis/bacon/salt etc.)? Well, I have caramels so infrequently (since they have to be specially made with no milk- BTW- whoever posted that caramel recipe with coconut milk is amazing- I've had them with rice or soy milk, but I'm thinking they'd be way better with coconut milk- no aftertaste) that I think I'd just prefer the normal kind. Some facts about myself: I am addicted to lip balm and if I am out or on the way to somewhere and realize I don’t have any with me I kind of freak out. I love Tori Amos’ music. I am ovo-vegetarian, although sometimes eggs gross me out. I love my husband and think he’s awesome. I work at a health food store and get irritated when people disparage vitamins and herbs. I love books, especially good historical fiction (not cheesy romance historical fiction) and books about mental illness. I prefer to read books from female writers. I buy too many books and have many on my shelf that I haven’t gotten around to reading. I dislike children until they’re around jr. high age, especially little boys and babies. I am a Christian, but I detest hypocritical, judgmental, legalistic Christians who are jerks/look down on everyone. The Catholic Church makes me insane- I think they take advantage of people and it makes me crazy. I work with the girls in our church’s high school youth group and am crazy about them. I love water and dream of having a house right on the ocean (or a lake would do). I don’t have many friends, or a “best friend”, but would love to have one. I am afraid of aliens (the gray ones with big eyes) and ghosts (although I don’t really think either exist- I guess I’m not sure about the aliens). I can’t watch scary movies and am afraid of blood coming out of the sink. I’m kind of germaphobe- not my own germs, but other people’s. I don’t have a good relationship with my parents and can’t really relate to them, although I care about them a lot. I dropped out of high school my senior year because of big things going on in my life, but later got my GED. I never went to college because I didn’t know what I wanted to do (and don’t really like working). Some random questions answered from the summer round: Leather? The only leather I wear is for my shoes (and I feel kind of bad/hypocritical about it, but there isn't really much selection for vegan shoes). I have to wear shoes with good arch support too, so that narrows the field even more. I did finally find some good vegan sandals from Earth that are really comfortable, so that makes me glad... Do you like hair things? I do! Disney? No. Plants: I love plants, but I am terrible at watering them. My house is actually plantless right now, since they were all dying/dead and I had to give them a mass funeral... Do you wear nail varnish? Yes, but more often on my toes- I like having my nails painted, but can't do my right hand to save my life. Homebaked goodies? Sure, but I don't like coconut either (and no dairy please) Insects: I don't mind insects at all (and actually I really like the more interesting ones), except for spiders, which I wish would vanish from the face of the earth. First concert? I went to a bunch of shows of boys I was dating in HS before I ever saw a "real" concert, but the first big show I ever went to was REM in '96 I think. lip balm? I have a lip balm and lip gloss and lip stain obsession. It's ridiculous- if I'm out somewhere and I realize I don't have any lip balm in my pocket I kind of freak out... I guess it's almost how people are with cigarettes or something. favorite books as a kid? Gosh- I read so much when I was little- I was always in those reading contests at the library. Well, to my sometime embarrassment, I still read YA books (even though I turned 30 this year- gasp!). I read the Twilight books for the first time last month and have kind of become a bit obsessed about them (lol)... Phobias: Spiders. Oh my, I am terrified of them- it's really bad.... Hot beverages? If I could live in another time: I don't know if I'd like to live permanently in another time, although I'd like to be able to time travel to several times/places (as long as I had lots of money- it almost seems like every time in the past seems romantic or wonderful, although most often it was only wonderful for a small minority, with the rest being slaves/servants/peasants- which I wouldn't want to be). I love the Anne of Green Gables books/movies, and it seems like such a simpler time, which would be nice (for awhile), I think living in the 20's during prohibition would be fun- going to speakeasys and the like, although I guess if I had to choose, I might say to live during the Civil Rights Movement- to be a part of that and make a difference would be really amazing. Ideally, I'd like to be someone like Kivrin in The Doomsday Book (without things going wrong though), where I could be sent to the past, having been inoculated against whatever diseases everyone died from, and where I could be pulled back out to go back to my own time). I wouldn't say strangest, although it is probably one of the most vivid dreams I had- and it prompted me to get my bunnies: I had this bunny, and the two of us were on a long journey- we were going over mountains, crossing rivers, traversing the world- just the two of us- this bunny and me against the world! lol! I like eating (lol), so I see cooking as a means to an end. Best concert: Nightwish with Tarja Turnen. It was their first concert in the US, and their last tour with their original singer. It was amazing, and I'm so glad we were able to go.

I haven't written a review in a long time, because I'm a huge slacker, but this scent is AMAZING! It's such a perfect balance between resin and incense (both of which have the ability to be too much on my skin sometimes). It's such an evocative Steampunk scent- with good throw without being "heavy".

Midnight Kiss and Old Beaver Moon are the ones I've gotten the most compliments on from a variety of people.The weirdest compliment I've gotten was from Hungry Ghost Moon... Some creepy guy told me how good I smelled and wanted to know if I was wearing pheromones or something... Oils do have less throw, although now that I've been using oils for the past few years, I can't stand the synthetic alcohol cloud that I smell on people wearing conventional perfumes. Personally, I don't care if other people notice my perfume, since I wear it for my own enjoyment. If it helps, I find that BPAL's heavier scents (ones with red musks, patchouli, etc) are the ones with the most throw.

Have you tried Jolly Roger? It has leather, but I usually hate the note of leather, but Jolly Roger actually works on me- the strongest note it has is salt water. Port Royal is saltwater and wood- you might like it. You might want to try Tempest and Lightning also. Good luck!

I LOVE this oil. I thought it would be one I'd like (I'm fond of grapefruit, honeysuckle, and green tea), but this has far exceeded my hopes. The grapefruit is light and sweet and tangy, it doesn't overpower the blend and isn't super tart like Phobos. Jasmine is another note that can overwhelm a lot of blends for me, but it's very, very light. The honeysuckle and tonka give this blend a bit of sweetness- even a bit of foodiness. Bottom line, this blend is amazing and is probably my favorite oil that's been released since Leo 2007. Also, the label is awesome! It's a bat on a purple background- what could be better?

Thanks to the wonderful SueDonym for letting me try this! I am in love with this scent. Why is it the impossible ones that we fall in love with? ...sigh... When I first put this on it was very humid smelling with a very light lemony scent behind it. After it dries there is a light ozone and a delicate wet stone smell. I was a little worried about people saying "metallic", but I don't get anything sharp from this. It is just a light, grounding, lovely scent. ...if only I had more of it...

Well, let's see... For a nice marshmallow or buttercream vanilla I'd say Cockaigne (I'd say Mitzvah too, but it's impossible to find... For roses and fruit- have you tried Two, Five, and Seven? It's a sweet fruity sort of rose (and Persephone was horrible on me). For fruits and spices, maybe The March Hare? My last rec is for a very dry, spicy incense, and I would say Tushnamatay all the way- it's delicious. Mixxi- for cherry I'd say Black Phoenix and for a great apple scent I'd say Punkie Night or Verdandi.
