    Caliban

Reminds me of Ides of March 2012 I think but can’t be sure because that bottle disappeared ages ago. There’s a strong note of ozone and rain. It’s especially smooth and warm for an aquatic and it has a little bit of a green finish. Very clean and lovely. My BF wears this one sometimes. Unisex, aquatic, ozone and closed eyes. Where I'd wear this: When meditating in the desert, when you need the sea

    Le Lèthè

Beautiful smoky scent. I kept thinking leather, but it must actually be tobacco. It reminds me of an old library and it’s just really wonderful. Goes on sharp, but settles into a soft, warm tobacco. Wonderful on a date to a speakeasy. Unisex, woody, tobacco-y, smooth. ETA Where I'd wear it: A speakeasy date

    Belladonna

This scent is so green! It’s a wonderful spring/summer scent with a lovely balance of new growth and the earth that growth came from. Smells like laying in a garden. I would wear when I want to feel more connected to nature and it’s sunny out. ETA Where I'd wear it: When I need to feel more connected to the earth

    Sea of Glass

This is another scent that I find works better as a room scent and/or masculine scent. It smells really fresh and watery. It makes me think of spring cleaning in a good way. I love how it smells, but it’s not the right smell for me. I passed it on to my husband and he’s wild about it. I like it on him a lot. Where I'd wear this: House-cleaning with the windows open

    Event Horizon

Disconcerting is a good descriptor for this blend, but I don’t think it’s disconcerting in a bad way. It’s just unusual. It calls for a double-take when smelled. The overall impression I get of it is dry wood, warmed up and ready to burn. The orchid gives it enough warm floral to balance out the heaviness of the other notes. I think it’s quite lovely. Unisex, woody, soft, warm. A surprise fave. ETA 7/14/17: Eh. Where I'd wear this: To disappear

    Hurricane

This is more unisex/masculine than feminine. I like it best as a room scent because it smells like clean linen and spring cleaning. Love the smell but it doesn’t work for me as a perfume. Very aquatic and a little bit cologne-y. Smells great on men and in houses with open windows and sunshine. Glad I still have a little imp of this. Too bad it was discontinued! ETA Where I'd wear it: Watching Weather Channel, waiting for the storm to hit

    Amsterdam

This goes all dusty floral on me, which gives me a headache. Not a fave.

    Vicomte de Valmont

On first sniff, this was incredibly, overpoweringly 'men's cologne'. It does remain a masculine scent, but on drydown, it's much nicer than typical men's cologne! It also fades pretty fast. Not a lot of throw. 4/5. Where I'd wear this: In the scullery

    Sed Non Satiata

This is lovely! Warm, resin-y floral. I do so love resins, and I love florals in theory, but struggle to get them to work on my skin. Whenever I find one that works, it's a red letter day. Smells warm, dry, spicy, with an undercurrent of white flowers. Low throw, have to sniff hard for it. ETA where I'd wear this: Having a bath, hot water poured over me, Game of Thrones-style

    The Witch Bride

This is a white floral, but it's not a sneezy floral. It smells both womanly and innocent, both sexy and relaxed. I find it very pretty, and I think I'll wear it a lot during spring. Very happy blind purchase.

    Devil's Night

...This is the scent of autumn night, fires in the distance, with a touch of boozy swoon, playful sugar and thuggish musk. I took a gamble on this bottle because I'd heard that previous years were very split on whether peope found it to be a hit or a miss. BUT, I really loved the idea of these notes together, and I love the idea of Devil's Night, so I put it in my cart. I'm really happy that I did. The 2016 Devil's Night is lovely-- one of my favorites from this year. It's not overly sweet. It's smoky, resin-y, smooth, fresh (but not green). A woody oriental with low throw, but when you do catch a sniff, it smells like Halloween.

    Carnal

First sniff: aww, pretty orange! Like a brand new summer. Gets creamier as it dries. It sparkles, but on my skin, never reaches towards any earthiness or figgyness.

    Spellbound

After my disappointment with the Peacock Queen this year, I came back to an imp of Spellbound, that I'd previously rated a 1/10 in my Scent Spreadsheet, and decided to try it again. I really like this a lot better. I think I need to just accept that roses Are Not For Me. But this, mixed with the red musk, is better. It's better than a 1/10, for sure. I still won't keep the imp, but I'm glad I revisited it. I'm bumping it to a 4/10.

    Drink Me

Cookies, vanilla, butter, maybe maraschino cherries. Yum yum! Where I'd wear this: Teaching my niece to bake coffee cake.
  15. gloame

    El Dorado

Sharp and yellow. Not my cup of chai tea, but not bad.
  16. gloame

    Debauchery

This reminds me of something from my childhood, which was decidedly not debauched. I have no idea what it is, but I like it! Dry, resiny—like a softer, sweeter, spicier musk. I don't think I'd recognize civet, but I expected it to be more... animalistic? than this is, so I think it's the Egyptian musk. I have no idea how to describe this other than 'piercing'. Where I'd wear this: Winter, foraging.

What smells like Irish Spring Soap?

The Sea Foams Blood totally gave me this vibe.

    The Sea Foams Blood

The blood note is so shy, like it has been sitting in the ocean for several hours and has had time to mix. Once you really sniff, you can catch the metallic tang of it. On first sniff, and on drydown for me, this smells like the Irish Springs soap my grandmother kept in her bathroom. It always made me sneeze, and unfortunately, so does this imp.

    It Sifts from Leaden Sieves

In the bottle, there's something tangy that almost but not quite reminded me of pickles. But don't worry, it doesn't last. Definitely a dry patchouli. It's soft not crisp. I'd hoped for more of the coconut, but I'm not getting distinguished hints of it. I have a dozen of the Lab's patchouli scents, so I may not need this one.
  20. gloame

    Kabuki

Smells like cherry coke in the imp. Dries down to an incense-y licorice with a touch of cherry. If you like anise or licorice, give this one a shot.

    La Befana

First sniff: Candy violets and not much else. It gets more florally/less candy as it dries. Reminds me of something that I can't place. Not getting any chimney or soot yet. After half an hour, I get a soft, sweet violet.

    Thirteen (13): January 2017

First sniff: spicy tobacco. The same warm cedar as in Tombstone comes out pretty quickly, but the tobacco stays throughout. Just like Tombstone, I get a freshly shaved pencil vibe at first, but that fades and then it's just lovely. The honey and vanilla keeps it soft and warm. The lemon peel gives it a kick. This is a beautiful, lovely scent. So glad I finally picked up a bottle. ETA Where I'd wear this: When you need both luck and confidence
  23. gloame

    The Peacock Queen

    Ultimate rose. Lovely and womanly.
  24. gloame

    Chuparosa

All I'm getting is rose. I'm not getting any sweetness at all, like other reviewers. It's very dusty on my skin.
  25. gloame

    Lysander

Lilac musk, tonka, wood violet, and urbane lime rind, with a Venus-kissed tangle of myrtle, blackberry leaf, and benzoin. I'm not sure what I think of this. I can't pick out any single notes in the blend, but I quite like it. It's unique and peppy and a little bit smirk-y. It's a unisex blend but it gives masculine vibe. It's a unique spice, not like a cooking spice. Just a 'fuck I'm confident' spiciness. It does fade pretty fast though. Where I'd wear it: To drink gin and tonics after work in a trendy oyster house ETA to add details upon second sniff, a few months later.
