In the bottle all I get is lavender. Wet, it's lavender with something almost edibly sweet which I believe is the bourbon vanilla. Dry - the fig is strong with this one! I think I must amp fig. It reminds me of Iole. The fig note drowns out the others for a while but after an hour or so it settles down and the vanilla comes through again. The wood notes are really taking a back seat but I think they must be doing their bit all the same! It's a close-to-the-skin scent, and very comforting.

Licorice isn't my thing (and my husband would run a mile ) but Jasmine Cottage sounds intriguing! I'll definitely check that out, and Vasilissa and Kubla Khan for sure, and I shall report back! Thanks again!

Ooh, thank you Haltija I actually have Butterflies, and it's not too far off, close but no cigar Definitely on the right track, though. Vasilissa's been on my wishlist for a while and looking at the notes again now I think that one could be a winner! I've never heard of the other two but I'mma start hunting now Will post if and when I find a satisfactory scent match in case anyone else happens to be interested!

Mmm...it's fresh, but sultry, and very delicious I was wearing it today and the hubby came in from work and demanded to know what smelled so good and why before he even asked me how I was
-
I've only used this as a post-shower moisturiser because I don't like to take baths. It smells delicious - rose and patchouli is an incredible combination! It's very softening on the skin too, though I have to use quite a lot as my skin eats it up. The scent lasts for hours. My boyfriend gave me a cuddle when he came home and told me he liked my new perfume, and I said "I'm not wearing perfume! mwah-ha!" It pairs nicely with Silkybat, too. Keeper.

This stuff is amazing. It smells delicious. My friends dislike my "dirty hippy smells", but I feel they'll be hard-pressed to object to this one! I went to get my flu shot today and the nurse said "You smell gooood! Is that patchouli? Is it pure patchouli or is there something else?". I said I wasn't sure because the only thing I could think to say was "em...sugar?" Might have to buy another bottle before it goes bye-bye. But first it needs boyfriend approval... Edited for spelling guhh

I love this scent. It starts off very much juicy fig with just a hint of floral (it seems I'm luckier than some where jasmine is concerned) but I think the leather and musk must make quite an appearance on the drydown because my boyfriend asked me what bar I'd been hanging out in - apparently I smelled like whiskey and smoke! Nonetheless, when he realised it was my perfume he said he liked it and asked for the name - go figure

Hey everyone! So as I've mentioned in the compliments thread, my boyfriend is crazy about Tombeur, and I love to drive him crazy But as you can all appreciate, I'm just not a one-scent girl - so, can anyone recommend scents that are similar to Tombeur so I can switch it up and still be pleasing to the boy's nose? Unhelpfully, I'm really not sure which note(s) in the scent I specifically amp or what appeals to him in particular, but hey, it's always fun to experiment with new scents! Thanks for your help!

Thanks Zii and Trickster! I've already got Snake Oil, and love it, although it's not that aged so that might work. Trickster, I've checked out the reviews for those scents and they sound quite masculine. I might pick up imps anyways and see if they work on one of us Anyone have recs for more feminine scents?
-
This is gawwwwgeous. The flowers remind me of Crossroads - I wonder if that's the jasmine? But it's not as woodsy/green as Crossroads, much more feminine I think. It embodies my completely Hollywood-based image of the south perfectly. Sultry, sexy, deep, delicious yumminess.
-
This is a really interesting scent. It starts off a sweet, juicy, fruity scent, mellows into something more feminine and refined and ends up being basically just a really nice patchouli. I unexpectedly like the combination of patchouli and peach! This is lovely.
-
At first all I get is sweety fruity fruity sweet fruit. Maybe strawberry and lemon. Then there's a really pretty, almost floral scent. And then later something more resinous and incensey maybe? But still fruity and sweet. It's lovely. A very happy scent indeed.

The lavender is very sharp at first. A lot more aggressive than I would have expected from the description of this oil. Then it quietens down and some nice flowers come out. Once it's dry it becomes more or less what I imagined and much truer to the description. The ylang ylang really shines in this. It's a lovely, delicate, subdued floral. Someone must have beat lavender round the head with a crowbar! I like it.
-
The lab's description couldn't be more accurate in this case. It's just lovely. It's making me fall in love with my own arm.

I smelled lavender and possibly lemon verbana right away. I don't usually like anything lemon but this is a really nice scent, especially suited to bedtime. I also would have expected lemon to wake me up but that was not at all the case. I fell asleep quickly and slept deeply and well, all rare occurrences for me, until my alarm woke me up in the morning and I fell back asleep and had a horrible nightmare! But I don't blame Nanshe, I blame my obnoxious ocean sounds alarm. Besides, she'd mostly worn off by then! I like! May not buy a bottle but will definitely use the imp

I ordered this as I'd been having a particularly rough time at work and wanted something to give me a boost that would help me get through the day. It's a lovely scent - I felt happier as soon as it hit my nose! There's a very pretty floral - smells like it could be jasmine or ylang ylang - a little bit fruity and, until it dried down, I could also smell coconut...very sweet coconut. But that went away upon drydown and I was left with a long-lasting, pretty, happy-making floral. I bought it for its purported effects (and because I love surprises!) so discovering I liked it as a perfume was a bonus. As for the effects, the colleague who has been unjustifiably making my life harder for the last week was much nicer and repentantly confessed (perhaps pre-emptively?!) to our boss that she hadn't been particularly kind to me lately. I call that a result! Don't ask me about correlation and causation, though, I don't know. Could be a coincidence but I prefer to think there's no such thing. Nice one, lab!

This is just pure soap on me! How odd. I don't know what's going on with me , I really thought I'd love this. Maybe amber doesn't agree with me, considering I've had strange reactions to this and O...Yep. Just soap. Can't really say much more

In the imp: mostly honey Wet: Strangely boozy Definitely wasn't expecting that. Slightly syrupy but with that alcoholic burning in the back of my throat. That could also be the honey, come to think of it. As it starts to dry down I think I detect a little bit of rose. How odd... Dry: The honey takes a step back and something sort of floral comes through. Ok now I'm starting to get some sexy. I've smelled sexier BPAL scents though. I'm picking up a vague whiff of vanilla, not very familiar with amber but it does smell burnt yellow/orange. The verdict: I expected to like this a lot. I think I do like it. It's interesting and the concept definitely comes across, but I'm not sure if I want to smell like it- I think I need a second opinion! I shall have to test the SO's reaction.
-
Eep! Very strong smell of some sort of confection I seem to remember from my childhood...not a pleasant nostalgia trip though, it just made me feel icky. First BPAL I've had to wash off Disappointed as I was looking forward to a nice refreshing scent. Might have to test it again sometime but can't bring myself to smell it for long enough to write a more thorough review right now.
-
Well this one has taught me a lesson about judging BPAL scents too quickly! I had tried it once or twice and found it weird and furry and musky (could it have been the oakmoss? I don't know) and was broken-hearted because I really wanted a nice fairy scent. But I decided to try it again because it's been really hot and humid lately and I don't really have anything light. Now it might be because of the week that's in it, but wow! It's a bright, fruity, floral, feminine scent with a lovely sophisticated perfumey drydown. I'm definitely getting the concept now! Magical. I'm off to frolic in a fairy ring. Sorry my review's not more useful, I can't really pick out the notes but I heartily recommend Fae!

This was another frimp from the Labbies In the imp: Very strong jasmine...that's really the only note I can pick out Wet: Jasmine and something herby and witchy-smelling. It's sweet, heady and earthy all at once. (Why can I only describe smells in words that end in y?) Drydown: I'm getting incense along with the herbs and jasmine now. The verdict: I seem to be in the minority in liking this! It's not my favourite but I like to wear it when it's raining because it reminds me of the way the air and the grass back home smell after it rains. It's magical and mysterious. My perfume-hating boyfriend likes it on me too so that's a plus!

In the imp: Orangey orange with some ice creamy vanilla Wet: On my skin, something else comes out to play...I still get the orange but not so much vanilla and there's this very grown-up, sensual and floral scent (narcissus I suppose) that balances out the sharp citrus very nicely. I feel compelled to inhale very deeply Drydown: Heady orange and sensual floral...but not a foody orange at all. It does get a bit powdery after a whole day, especially in the crook of my arm, but it's still lovely. The Verdict: I love this one, which I'm surprised about because I wasn't sure I would like an orange scent. So far it's second only to Snake Oil for me. Very sexy 5/5

In the imp: Sweet honey, the warm, spicy scent of clove and fig and a very faint, light floral Wet: Warm and inviting spices and a luscious trickling of golden honey. I don't pick up much patchouli or ylang ylang Drydown: The spices calm down a little and its mostly just a warm, sweet, sensual honey note that makes me want to lick my wrist. The Verdict: I really like this one, especially on hot days because it makes me feel like a strong, beautiful woman strolling the streets of Athens, so evocative is it of its name. (This is coming from someone who has never been to Greece, but my imagination has, and this scent certainly brings me there!) Its sensual and seductive, especially the sweet honey note. The weird thing about it is other peoples' reactions to it. I slathered it on one hot day at university when I was quite active so I suppose I burned through it very quickly, but my friend sat beside me and asked me why I smelled like baby powder. Nice baby powder, but still. Then my mother (she of the good nose who loves Snake Oil) said I smelled like old lady pee. My boyfriend, who is getting used to having my wrist shoved under his nose, said it was nice but he was possibly under duress because he knew I liked it and had my fist in his face You know when you wear something you think looks really good on you but the people around you don't see you the same way? That's what it's like when I wear this - I think I smell amazing, other people may not...Not sure that will stop me buying a bottle though!
-
My favourite! Ok so I've only tested 6 imps but this is far and away my favourite one and I'm itching to get a bottle. It's just so sexy and delicious! While I was visiting my family, I put some on in my bedroom and my mother could smell it from the kitchen (she does have a good nose, to be fair). She wholeheartedly approved and demanded a bottle for her birthday which I, dutiful daughter that I am, will obligingly provide. A little begrudgingly, might I add, because I don't want anyone smelling as good as me but hey, we don't live in the same country and I can't keep something this good to myself! In the imp: I can't really describe it...it's a deep, thick, rich scent. You can smell the smooth vanilla but overall the scent is very exotic. Wet: A bit spicy but still incensey, rounded out nicely by the vanilla Drydown: A little bit powdery (in the nicest way) and still rich, deep and very sexy. The Verdict: Best smell I've smelled thus far! 5/5

Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener
littlesparrow replied to flyingpizza's topic in Doc Constantine's Pharmacopoeia
This was a frimp from the lab Thanks lab! In the imp: Something refreshing and slightly spicy/minty. Certainly a bit medicinal but in a pleasant way. Wet: I'm getting a vanilla ice-creamy smell with a spicy kick. Some people have described root-beer ice cream so I'm assuming it's the sassafras that gives it the kick. Neither sassafras nor root beer are things I would recognise the smell of but whatever it is I like it! Drydown: Yep, it's like a spicy vanilla ice-cream. Yum. The Verdict: I like it a lot, especially when I need to be alert and awake. I wore it for my most-feared exam in June and it went well! I think it could be nice on a man, too. I've had a few compliments wearing it. The funniest of which was during a terrifying car ride with a few of my classmates. We were being driven down a mountain at high-speed by a lecturer and we had all huddled together and thrown our limbs over one another in fear, but in spite of this one of the girls actually stopped to tell me how nice I smelled! The imp is a keeper and I would consider a bottle.
