    Mrs. Grose

This is simply beautiful. It smells exactly like a tea I have-- rose and cinnamon black tea, with cram and honey. This is ever so slightly spicy, but it smells like soft foody cinnamon, not tons of spice, and beautiful wet creamy roses, with a huge dose of honey. I know there's no honey, but rose water has that honey smell as well. accurate to the scent description, and not any note overpowers another. Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

    Spider Silk Bath Oil

This is beautiful. Coconut and light vanilla vet papyrus are the main highlights. It does have a lemony and slightly floral undertone and blends the coconut so it's not tropical. Ever so slightly woody as well. It's very relaxing. I can see this becoming my go to bed time moisturizer.

    fresh basil leaves?

It's not bpal, but haus of gloi's apothecary oil has a basil heavy dry down. Very interesting and herby spicy, a little lemony. It smells exactly what I would expect an apothecary to smell like. Lots of herbs, some dry, lavender and such, resinous backdrop. Antony in BPALs catalogue is basil and sage. Really nice with a slight sweet insence backdrop on the earthy herbs.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume

Nothing smells like Encens Mystic IMO. I love that stuff and I'm glad that I have a couple of tubes of it, but I have never found anything that smells similar. There is just something about EM that smells more like church incense, or incense period. The notes are similar to a lot of blends that I have, but the proportions make it smell so different. I think that I may need to try some layering to see if there are any combos out there that come close. I haven't really tried before, because I had the real thing, but those won't last forever. my last tube is running woefully low. i thought i'd just be able to buy it forever! it was so popular at sephora. i wondered what happened to the company. i was going to write them directly about encens mystic, but the websites are down. so the two alternatives i was given are: +bpals 'ave maria gratia plena' +comme des garcons 'avignon' any opinions? is there any way we can send a sample of encens mystic to bpal and see if they can maybe create a viable likeness? do they do that? seriously, i need my encens mystic. In answer to your last question, no, BPAL does not do customs. I saw a review for Encens Mystic where someone mentioned Avignon, so I might order a sample from Luckyscent so that I can try it. I think that it is not as sweet, so it might need to be layered with something. I am testing Ave Maria Gratia Plena right now and I'm really finding it to be mainly a floral. I'm wondering if some of the woodier blends layered with something might work. I will start playing around with things tonight. Maybe Aureus or Cathedral layered with something with vanilla or a sweeter resiny blend. Ugh, so sad that Encens Mystic is gone. I bought a couple on line for $5/ea, but I didn't realize that they were disc, or I would have gotten a lot more. =( have you tried Cathedral? if so, what did you think? really considering it. thanks for all the help, btw. Damn. I wish I knew of that existing. It sounds lovely! If you can get your hands o. Smiling spider, it has a lot of similar notes. Dark woods and clove, mildly resinous. Dead sexy. You could try layering it with something like cathedral or penitence to get more insence directly.

    Sugared incense

I don't know if it has been recommended yet, but Bette Noir may be up your alley. You like a lot of the same notes I do. It has Benzoin, wild plum, smoky amber, bergamot, orange blossom, myrrh, and dark berries. I haven't gotten my bottle yet, but the reviews are awesome, and it's got resins and dark fruit. Kaiden as well. Rosehip, plum blossom, white sandalwood, jonquil, and amber-laden incense. Both are Boom! Studios.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

My first thought was Anne Bonny. Wild, assertive and a real strong female power scent. Because of your classic goth influence however, Mourning Lace? Maybe Mad Sweeney might be a good one- although it's a kick of whisky, it's another really strong power scent. Ooh! Anne Bony sounds delicious. Beautiful resins! That's definitely going on my list. Mourning lace I've been meaning to grab for a while-- I've heard it smells like clove cigs. Mmm. I do like woods, but I don't eallybwantbto smell like a whiskey barrel Thanks for the recs! I would love to see if anyone else has some for me
  7. Check the reviews-- I remember seeing a few comparisons. I believe Black Lace is one of most common comparisons. I find it similar, but the atmo definitely has a heavy hit of bourbon.
  8. Anyone know an oil that smells like the litchis laboratory? Totally in love.

    The Black Rider

Love! I picked this up unsniffed on a whim--oh my god am I glad I did. Sexy black leathery almost honeyed dark and beautiful amber and resinous. It's incredibly smooth, dark, not at all powdery. Absolute sex! I would not call this masculine, perhaps unisex, but very very sex kitten powerful and beautiful. I can't rave about this enough, and neither can my fiancé!

Old Demons of the First Class

It smells like smoky sexy nutmeg. Mmmm!
  11. Mechanical Death

    Plunder

The scent of a pirate's bumboat, overflowing with stolen wares: tea leaf, cassia, cinnamon bark, clove, allspice, sandalwood, tobacco, peppercorn, and nutmeg. This smells so beautiful in the bottle. Spicy cinnamon tea is right. The cassia picks up heavily on the skin which has an odd sweet smell, not outright cinnamon. I like it, but so far not I love with it. I layered The tonka sn over it, and it turned into all spicy rum snd almost amoretto smelling. Mmm i definitely need to test further-- i disnt give it dnough time to set up properly. Further review to come. Unfortunately I bought 2 bottles by accident. I don't know how I did that, but oops. If anyone would like to purchase one to try out for themselves, message me

    Countess Willie

Rich and decadent. Ohlala! In the bottle it smelled very foodie chocolate, but on the skin the plum musk comes out, sugary delicious and heady. The sugared fruits add some tartness to the chocolate plum deliciousness and there is definitely a boozy hint there. The ginger adds a perfumy quality to it all and balances it, keeping it from being too sweet and foodie. Absolutely sexy and decadent! I need a glass of red wine to go with this.

Scent Recs based on your PERSONALITY!

I've been wanting to do this for a while! I'm curious to see what you all will come up with for me. I'm a nearly 22 year old classic goth. My entire closet is a wall of black. My styles vary within though. I alternate from gothabilly to Victorian influenced goth and a more hard edged grunge goth. As long as its macabre though, I'm all over it. My home looks like a headshop, and most of the time smells like it too. My fiancé and I have a fabulous collection of taxidermy, bones, masks and artifacts from around the world and tons of candles everywhere. I practice paganism, though I'm not very strict with ritual. I identify with it and have adapted many aspects into my life. I find it calming. I am Romani by blood, which I find actually gives me stronger sense of site and ritualistic power. Some people would say that is BS but my family swears by it. My grandmother's site was very strong-- she had crazy visions. I am a lover of fine arts and classic art. On my freetime I do a lot of painting and odd mixed media pieces. Im hoping to have a show sometime soon. I spend a lot of time at museums drawing and exploring. As I said before I love all things macabre and Victorian, my aesteatics definitely lean heavily on those categories. However I'm also a huge nerd. I love Doctor Who, and work with MayFaire Moon corsets and costumes to make the TARDIS corset. I work with electronics and boobs at my job. It's pretty awesome. My actual job title is Mad Scientist because we're crazy people and do innovative things with clothing, electronics and props. Aside from Doctor Who, I love Star Wars and Star Trek -- yes, there can be peace between the franchises! Also the lesser known Farscape. I play a ton of videogames too. I have two ceiling high bookcases filled with them. In my younger years I was really into anime and manga. I do love a good book though, modern media hasn't wasted my mind. I enjoy classics like Jane Austin and Bram Stoker, and the odd well written and quirky modern published books like Neil Gaimans works or The Girl Who Circumvented Fairyland. I am currently in school part time while I work, studying product design. I started school in mechanical engineering building robots, and changed into product design. I got to keep my robotics concentration, so I hope to some day beable to work on prosthetics and help design them to be as human like and elegant a replacement as possible. I'm loud and strong willed. Nothing keeps me from speaking my mind unless I know the situation is truly inappropriate. I will gladly talk back to one of my professors or my boss -- I won't take something sitting down. It has definitely gotten me in trouble but it has always been worth it. I'm also very snarky, sarcastic, extremely intuitive, and strong willed. I have been described as a Japanese Daruma Doll or a Phoenix, because you can knock me down but I will always get back up and rise from the ashes. That's a very rough part of my life. I have a very rare brain disorder that looks like migraines strokes and seizures, but isn't. No one knows how to treat it, only try to give me maintenance with numerous meds. I had to leave school for a year, and the years previously I struggled through many of the semesters, but still pulled through at the top of my classes even when I was failing and in and out of hospitals earlier in the semester. I'm very proud of my strength and tenacity. It's what I do best; keep on going and never give up. My favorite scents are: smiling spider, black lace, crypt queen, Dorian, Witch Dance, Harvest moon, lady lillith, sleepy moon. I live dark woods, incense, wine, clove, lavender i gravitate towards blends that are dark and sexy-- things that require blood red lipstick and smoky makeup. I do like some sweet perfumes too, but rarely foodie, so I'm open to suggestions. I can't do white florals. Rose does work, it depends on the blend.

    The Smiling Spider

Oh god *faints* I was looking for the perfect clove blend. This is it. *swoon* In the bottle it has a slight bitterness which had me worried but as soon as it hits the skin it goes away. This is dead sexy! Black musk is one of my best friends. It has this rich slightly ambery incense note. That mixed with the clove and deep woody mahogany is pure sex. The patchouli sits underneath, a deep slightly sweet and nutty note that good patch gets. I'm in love. I need 10 bottles. why didn't I grab this when it was available originally. I'm going to have to hunt down more. Stat!

    The Tears of Lilith

Hemlock and hydromel and gall, honey and aconite and wine, lavishly poured over a blend of deep red musk, velvet-red rose, and silvery ambergris. This is my favorite of the weenies so far. If you are a red musk and wine lover do not hesitate to buy! Its very much a red purple scent. Deep red port wine, blood red swirling in a glass surrounded by heaving sultry musk of a seductive evil temptress. She may kill you but it'll be a sweet death. The silvery amber chills and shimmers. It's the feeling of warmth fading. Those who fear rose, don't run from this scent. The rose in this is deep and perfumy, but does not come screaming to the top. It lays in wait, velvety blood red and sweet. It's the bouquet of the reddest roses spot on. I think it's the same red rose from rose red. This is a deadly gorgeous scent, pun quite intended. I need a backup bottle for sure. I've been wearing it everyday.

    Harvest Moon 2010

in the bottle this is all gorgeous wine with mulling spices. Mmm! On the skin it blooms, the plum comes out more, a twang of the balsam, gorgeous wine and slices-- the clove peaks out a bit and blends with the leaves. It's the same scent used in the dead leaves and desolation from this years Halloween candle. It's stunning and smells every bit like fall.

    Mother Shub's Stygian Nougat

The thyme is funny. I think sage would have been better. :/ it has a strange edge that smells like pasta sauce.
  18. Mechanical Death

    Nes Gadol Haya Sham

This is lovely! It was one of the blends I was most looking forward to trying, many I'm glad I did. In the bottle it smells quite tart, but on the skin it blends out into this marvelous mouthwatering complex scent. It has a smooth quality, and a slight nuttiness. Almond, pomegranate and lemon verbena are the top notes, but they don't fight with each other. I catch the slight spice quality from the carnation undertone. It's so complex that it's hard to identify al of the notes. The overall effect of it is a sweet pink-red scent. Tart and sweet at the same time, with some spice and sandalwood undertones, and something like a caramely sugared mid note. It's not what I expected at all and it's gorgeous! Definitely a bottle buy.
  19. Mechanical Death

    The Governess

A very light tea scent with a hint of violets. It smells more flower heavy in the imp than it does on my skin. I was really looking forward to this one. It has so many beautiful notes but it doesn't come together on my skin.
  20. Mechanical Death

    Mother Shub's Gingerbread Temples

Vetiver, smoke, and gingerbread. It sadly just smells like earthy burned gingerbread. I was hoping for a really resinous sweet molassesy ginger. But sadly not. It dissapeaes on the drydown too :/ blah
  21. Mechanical Death

    Crypt Queen

I missed its run unfortunately, but was lucky enough to snag an unopened bottle and display on eBay recently. It comes beautifully packaged with this gorgeous heavy coffin. Stunning! Pomegranate I thought was a death note for me. So many blends I have tried with pomegranate turn into this mint chaapstick smell. Crypt queen however is beautifully tart, heady raspberry and pomegranate. The rose is dusty, like dried dead roses-- a perfect compliment to the red and tart fruits. It has a bit of a fruit wine smell. Raspberry and pomegranate wine surrounded by musky rose incense. So glad I got to try this. I'm gng to have to hunt down more. This is easily a top 10 for me.
  22. Mechanical Death

    Inferno

In the imp, almond. Strong syrupy sweet almond. Slight touch of neroli and cinnamon underneath coming forth. All very sugary smelling. On the skin it turns into red hots candy. Straight up. Drying the other two notes come out again and the cinnamon becomes darker, less red, more firey and sexy. Perfect cinnamon blend!
  23. Mechanical Death

    Schrodinger's Cat

Yowza! Super citrus zingy candy with a soft sugared lavender edge. The chocolate offers a smooth blending character to the tangy and floral notes. It's creamy, more like white chocolate. There is a slight dash of sweet peppermint, enough to create a slight freshness to the blend, but not overpoweringly mint. Not the type I'm usually drawn to, but it's pretty damn interesting. I may have to grab a bottleof this.
  24. Mechanical Death

    Lady MacBeth

Super freeport purple fruity goodness tempered by tart deep wine and herbs. Oh my goodness! At first it smelled primarily like artificial grape candy, but as it dried the woodiness and richness of the wine not came forth, and the thyme herbaliness paired the sweet juicy berries, taking away the candy smell, leaving a mouthwatering berry, herbal, and wood aged wine combination that's dead sexy.
  25. Mechanical Death

    Venusian Phoenix

A very tart fragrance. "pink" in color like a grapefruit. It smells primarily of tart hibiscus and cherry when wet, with the lemon verbena adding a citrus component. As it dries the rose peaks through, and the rose mint, which has a slight herbal quality. The rose in this is not overpoweringly so. It smells like my favorite Saison beer, IO which is all hibiscus and flowers. Perfectly tart and flowery. Girly with a slight edge to keep it from being all flowers. It's very faint, but in a good way. It would be overpowering as a strong scent. A lovely blend for cool summer days.
