So on me, this is crazy spicy evil rootbeer right out of the bottle - but within 10 minutes that's gone, leaving behind a truly amazing complex scent. Nutmeg, poppy, and myrrh, with the sassafras almost gone and lending just a hint of sweetness. In fact, smelling this, I'm picturing a dark old wooden cabinet full of drugs - in spice boxes, dribbly bottles, and well-used pipes. And wearing it, I smell like the person who makes them. Again, I'm not sure whether to blame the power of suggestion, but it's really excellent. Definitely going to need a big bottle of this. It's one of the first BPAL scents I tried and loved, and I regret not buying it at the Black Broom when I was there. Smelling like a brewer of obscure narcotic elixirs - I'm all over that. Mmmm. Even more than Dee, this may become something I wear on an everyday basis. EDIT: So in case I'm not the last one to figure this out...today I happened across the following information: safrole, the aromatic component of sassafras oil, is a commonly-used precursor to the synthesis of MDMA (that's Ecstasy). The appropriateness of this (along with nutmeg and poppy!) makes me indescribably happy. Attar Shanas, did you know about this already? I bet you did, you sly chemist. Mad props to the Alchemist for this one. And does that mean myrrh has some psychoactive property as well? 'Cause if so, I'm completely failing at finding out what it is, and I want to KNOW! ::insert mad-scientist smiley here::

This is an absolutely wonderful scent! After all the people who called it "disturbing", I was prepared for something much less pleasant. But this is a gorgeous scent! I get roses (damp, or possibly wilting); sweet wine; and amazing, rich, loamy dirt. I don't recognise any of the particular herbs in here, except the possible rosy smell. With "sanguineous" I expected something more meaty, but I didn't get that at all - none of that animal, metallic smell. And the dirt note is so comforting, just as in Zombi. Amazing scent. Definitely considering a bottle of this. Mmmmm. ::sniffs hand again for the n-th time:: Edit: Unfortunately, this fades in an hour! Oh no...but that hour is worth it, I think. Maybe I'll scent my clothes with it, instead? Edit again: I'm a moron. The reason this faded so quickly is because I was dancing like a maniac and perspiring similarly. Bah.

You know, I was expecting something more piratey, somehow. The first twenty minutes or so of this, though, I smelled exactly like a sauna. Uncannily so. Didn't know I had so strong a scent association for that. This skin chemistry business, it certainly takes some getting used to. After that, though, I agree with whoever said that it smelled like a sandalwood fan. That, and dhoop incense. Seems to have started smelling much warmer and oilier - less dry wood, if that makes sense - after spending some time on my skin. See, I *like* smelling like a hippie. Edit: Tried it mixed with Carnal. Mmmmmm.

Got this as a freebie from the Lab today. First review ever, too. Anyhow. So there's this dessert my parents make occasionally. You take your favourite dried fruits - in our case, this was usually figs, prunes, apricots, and raisins - and add sweet fruity wine, the juice of some oranges, maybe a lemon too, and some cloves and cinnamon sticks. Then you stew it until it's done. This smells *exactly* like that. What's bothering me is that the spices aren't listed in the scent description. Does that mean I'm just associating them, or are there other things that aren't listed? I'm a novice when it comes to BPAL scents, so I'm not sure yet about wearing this. Don't know if I want to smell like dessert, really. However, it does smell amazing. (Huh. Been on for an hour, now, and it's starting to fade. Pity. Smelling more like Christmas potpourri, now.)
