I absolutely love the lab's tobacco notes, and yes, definitely give Elegba, Perversion, and The Antikythera Mechanism a go if you haven't already! Also The Black Temple Burlesque Troupe (I prefer 2009, but 2012 is lovely as well). If you want to try something rather masculine, Knucklebones has the same note, as well. Oh oh and Ashlultum, Plunder, Roadhouse, The Black Rider, The Illustrated Woman, etc etc. Another that contains 'tobacco tar', but I haven't really been able to pick it out (absolutely goooorgeous scent) is The Raptures and Roses of Vice. <3 <3 Happy baccy hunting!

For an exceedingly cool mint, you could try Breathless Horror; it's quite herbal, but I'm having difficulties finding warm AND herbal mints. I WILL KEEP LOOKING! (Breathless horror: icy white musk and thick olibanum with niaouli, carrot seed, white mint, and camphor.) Humpback Whale is an aquatically herbal mint, very lovely. Rather unisex. (Blue peppermint, sea buckthorn berry, white myrrh, ambergris accord, and tobacco leaf.) Lips Full of Lust and Laughter also has mint in it, though on my skin it's basically fruity shampoo, so ymmv. (Red musk, wildflower honey, elemi, tangerine, and mint.) Manhattan could be a go, too. That one has the notes you seem to be after, though I haven't tested it. (Sexuality, power, confidence. A meeting of modern, sleek elegance and rich, passionate history: sheer amber, black leather, white mint, lemon peel, white tea, grapefruit, kush, teakwood and orchid.) Ditto for Tristan from the Stardust series, though it has tonka and you might not like that. (Dust on your trousers, mud on your boots, and stars in your eyes: redwood, tonka bean, white sandalwood, lemon peel, patchouli, rosewood, coriander, and crushed mint.)

A Sudden Invitation is a lovely warm and woody mint for me.

I should have made a review post of this earlier. My older sister huffed this once then screamed 'it smells like Bali! The little shrines and offerings you see around the place...' - and seeing as I've never been, I will have to take her word for it. I smell a gorgeous freshness, with the fruitiness being akin to dried roses. The black tea is an amazing base, keeping the scent clean and fresh. I never really get any ginger, but I suppose it is there, being all awesome and making the scent pop. This is my idea of a perfect summer. It really is fantastic. Completely different from any other BPAL I own, as well.

Mr. Bobo definitely gets on this list. I had to try it, of course! Herbs and pickles! Breathless Horror is actually a great scent, even with the disturbing concept. I would love to smell it on a guy; it's clean and cool, and just fun! ETA: I also have to add that I *love* the notes of Hand of Glory, but I can't bring myself to search out some to try simply because the whoel concept of the Hand creeps me the fuck out.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?
Fuhrankie replied to Absinthe's topic in Recommendations
I think this too, though the roses of RPaD seem to be more strong tea roses, and very red. RaRoV are more creamy white roses. RPaD is definitely my go-to for after my bottle/s run out, but for now there is a clear favourite. -

Incantation is an incredibly vetivery blend. Layering it with SO, perhaps even with a touch of Goblin for the coconut, could work really well. I've never smelled The Great He-Goat, so I can't really give you an opinion on that one. :3 <3 -
I smelt this today, can anyone recommend a blend?
Fuhrankie replied to Lunameth's topic in Recommendations
I'd try something like tobacco honey layered with pickled imp. or the French tobacco sn layered with plunder. This sounds lovely, I need something that smells like the OP's scent! -
Yes, me too! Forgive me, forgive me, I forgot about Elegba - which I love, but doesn't tend to come out all that coconutty on me. I also think I should retry Rigorous Love - it came out 100% lemon in all previous tests (it was the most promising sounding of all the Shungas when I first read them, but alas it was not to be) because I can't NOT love a coconut blend. As for Roses, earls and Diamonds, as well as Blood and Black Pearl, I have them on my imps-to-buy list, so hopefully I'll be able to fall in love with them soon. Thank you everyone! <3 <3

Up up! I am a coconut whore and need more. :3 Preferrably without food in it. Non-foody coconut blends. Two of my faves are The Raptures and Roses of Vice and Goblin. Runners up include Carnaval Diabolique (not coconutty enough!) and Death Adder (not really a vetiver fan). Yum yum!

2013. Dark, so dark and musky and sweet. I never really get any of the boozy note, nor any fruit that might denote a boze scent. This is honestly one of my favourite scents ever, and sits amazingly on me for days. I could pick up an old jumper I have been too lazy to wash, and it just smells so rich and awesome. Ever so slightly powdery, but absolutely gorgeous, as it seems to temper the sweetness.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Fuhrankie replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
I don't think they ever answer this type of question, unfortunately. My guess would be no, since as far as I can tell from some cursory Googling, there is no extract of pomegranate that smells like pomegranate for use in perfumery (pomegranate seed oil is faintly-scented and used as a carrier oil or antioxidant). So the pomegranate in Mme Moriarty is probably an accord, but there's no way to tell for sure. You're the best judge of whether it's worth the risk. If I had a severe allergy I wouldn't go near it, but if I had an allergy that was not anaphylactic or otherwise life-threatening, I'd get a decant and risk it. (Disclaimer: I'm not a doctor and this isn't medical advice ) Right, time to source a decant and try not to die. 8D -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils

I was wondering if anyone knew if the pomegranate note originates from actual pomegranates? I'm allergic so I worry about skin contact from the note. I want to try Mme Moriarty so bad! -
The Musk Thread! Need to know what type is for you?
Fuhrankie replied to SKiser's topic in Recommendations
luna negra is, in my opinion, the best dark musk blend out there. sexiness. Luna Negra: The solace of shadows: blackberry and blackcurrant with Nepalese amber, kewda attar, and a deep, rich, sweet dark musk. it is just *SO* good. i hope they re-release it at some point. i will buy ALL THE BOTTLES. raven moon is also a delicious dark musk, albeit more creepy-dark than sexy-dark. which is sometimes called for. Raven Moon: Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance: shining, moonlit ebony musk with benzoin, myrrh, smoky vanilla, patchouli, nutmeg, and dried red chili. Oh my GOD I'm going to have to chase down at least a decant of both! They sound DIVINE. <3 -

Black/dark musks are my very favourite, followed by the red in less quantity. I could roll in Smut and BTBT until I drown, honestly. What are some good, non-floral (definitely no bulb flowers or jasmine) dark musk blends? -
Give 51 a go. Also Tenochtitlan. Those two really pop on me. Also The Sound of Insects, if you want to chase down a LE. On me it's fruity tea with dried flowers.

Edit: Silly server.

Imps I slip into my wallet, and bottles I'll either pack into something small and squishy like my Beats case, or a mouse case. That way they're all padded and happy. I've never found a need to transport a large quantity, but if I did it would involve lots of padding (probably wadding from the fabric store), and tight packing to make sure they don't jump around.

Notes That Don't Work, Blends That Do
Fuhrankie replied to tharsei-thanate's topic in Recommendations
Jasmine. I turn it into baby powdered horror. And vetiver usually gives me problems - But in The Caterpillar all I get is hippy shop incense, and it's pretty darn good. I *almost* regret giving away my imp, but it was never something I was going to wear. You might want to try a decant of The Raptures and Roses of Vice, btw. That coconut note is completely different from any others I have tried, and even friends who dislike coconut enjoyed the fragrance on me. -
Hippies. Having sex. In a swimming pool filled with icecream. I can't explain the amazingness of this scent any more clearly than that.

Cake, cookies, donuts, baked goods, even Cinnabon
Fuhrankie replied to imaginepageant's topic in Recommendations
Definitely Shub. Also I've found that the Exotic Bazaar atmo from BPTP is amazingly gingery and just fabulous, and compliments Shub really well! -
I think you should give Rigorous Love a go. That is so lemony on me it's insaaane. @_@ I think it could be amazing layered with a deep rose like in Whip.

Aldercy has said pretty much everything I wanted to say about this. In the bottle it is a blast of limey aquatic, and that follows through during the wet on skin stage, until the lime burns off. Not much morphing happened during the drydown, except it DIDN'T go soapy/too clean (an issue I have with a lot of aquatics). Dry, it sits beautifully on me, and if I huff closely, I can detect traces of sweetness and musk, which I put down to the snake oil, though it doesn't come forward and say 'LOL HI GUISE' like it does in other SO blends. So basically, I love it, and I definitely need to try it on my man when he comes back from overseas.
-
I'll probably slather something chocolatey and win over easter. Velvet or Boomslang v2 (the two chocolate blends that actually work on me) will be my go-to scents for the day. My family is atheist with pagan leanings and catholic roots (haha wut), so we usually do something ironic over the holiday.

Looking for a BPAL that Resembles a Favorite Perfume
Fuhrankie replied to Ina Garten Davita's topic in Recommendations
I'm looking for a scent similar to Diesel's Fuel For Life pour femme. http://www.basenotes.net/ID26125273.html <- basenotes page. The lab's jasmine notes tend to go baby powder on me, so I'd prefer jasmine-light fragrances (if the scent sounds absolutely perfect I'll give it a go anyway). Oddly, I've found a men's body spray by Lynx to be rather similar. The scent is called Fever. http://www.basenotes.net/ID26130540.html Heehee found it on basenotes too! Any help would be greatly appreciated! <3
