    Rakshasa

When I sniffed Rakshasa in the imp, I got excited. I am a big rose fan and it smelled very rosy and I could definitely smell the patchouli (which I also love). When I put Rakshasa on, however, I immediately knew it was a NO. Soap, soap soap! Soap is all I could smell, nothing else. Not rose, not patchouli, not sandalwood, nothing but strong sharp soap. The soap smell stayed around, too. I mean it lasted hours and hours. Although I will say that after about 6 hours it smelled more spicy and a little less like soap. It is the next morning and I can still smell Rakshasa on my wrists, so it has staying power for sure! Which is a good thing if this scent works for you, not so good for me.
  2. DJ Sin, Miss Jessel is not boozy at all. I think it smells exactly like roses and fresh tree sap.
  3. Hmmm, sounds like Phantom is another one I'll have to consider! And I am leaning toward Seance as the one to buy next. I was so excited to try the Dawns, then I got a frimp of Mother from a forumite and I absolutely hated it. There was something in there I really didn't like, and I'm not experienced enough to know what it was but it was bad. Now I'm not so gung ho about trying the other 2.
  4. Pittseminole, Miss Jessel does not seem (to me) to have a leaf/stem note. It's more like tree sap. It smells very... sorry it's very hard to describe... like a forest without the pine. The most simple, descriptive thing I could say about Miss Jessel is tree sap mixed with roses. It's more complex than that but I just don't know how to put it in words!
  5. Hmmm... I went back and read this whole thread and honestly it has made it harder to choose! I am ordering Black Rose for sure, like I said- I have an imp and I know I love that one. But I'm really undecided about the 2nd bottle. (Made a new rule for myself... no more than 2 bottles a month... and that's if I can afford that!) I'm trying to decide between - Spellbound Zombie Seance Rakshasa I mentioned in my previous post what scents I already have, (Rose Red, Mrs. Grose, Peacock Queen, Pink Snowballs, Miss Jessel, Tears of Lilith, Black Rose, Harlot). I don't want to order something very similar to something I've already got. Does anyone want to give me their opinion on which scent would be best? :boogie:
  6. Oh! And I was also wondering if there is any great rose scents that I should keep my eye out for with the Lupercalia update?
  7. I guess I should say I'm looking for GC rose recommendations, since it's pretty much a given that I'll try every rose LE that comes out!

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Oh my gosh, Ü is amazingly vanilla on me too. It starts out as more of a fresh clear balsam on me though, rather than cologne. I'm kind of sad that there's no leather, wood and old books like in the description, but for a vanilla lover, if you have the right chemistry it's perfect. (edited for spelling!) I guess we're lucky!
  9. Just thought I'd put my two cents in. I absolutely love Rose Red and Mrs. Grose. They are my favorite rose scents, followed closely by Black Rose. I have only been into BPAL for a couple of months and always liked the smell of rose... but once I smelled Black Rose I was like head-over-heels in love. It was so beautiful and sexy. So when the yules came out I went a little rose-crazy, ordering Red Rose, Peacock Queen, Mrs. Grose, Miss Jessel, and Pink Snowballs. I didn't much care for Pink Snowballs, I thought it smelled too young, so I gave it to my 7 year old daughter. Miss Jessel is nice, kind of a sweet, fruity, natural (tree-ish?) rose. Me likes. Peacock Queen is a gorgeous, deep, beautiful rose. Mrs. Grose is this completely amazing spicy rose. Rose, cinnamon, and a little tea. LOVE. :love!: Red Rose is a true rose with stem scent. It is fresh and cold and perfect and amazing. My absolute favorite. I still haven't tried Spellbound, which from reading this thread sounds like a must! I would also love to try The Rose. I have a bottle of Harlot that I bought unsniffed, and while I do like it, I thought it would be more spicy. I would love more recent rose recommendations for my next order, which will include Black Rose as my imp's almost gone!

    Gingerbread Poppet

2005 Gingerbread Poppet is exactly what it sounds like. Gingerbread. Period. I love this scent, I could wear it every day in the winter. It's yummy and spicy and also sexy.

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Oh, Lady Meag, too bad you don't get that vanilla note! And for the record I LOVE vanilla but HATE Eat Me and Drink Me. When I apply them I get a 2 second flash of sweet vanilla cake and then it goes crazy peppery(? WTH) and just gross on me, with absolutely no sign of the vanilla forever more.

    Miss Jessell

I am a rose lover and I am rejoicing! The previous poster is right, this is juicy. Juicy, and sweet. A sweet smelling, nature-like rose scent, with a bit of incensey-goodness. It makes me feel happy. I absolutely adore Miss Jessel. I don't know what "black roses" are, but they sure smell amazing! Edited to add... I wanted to say that after a month of wearing Miss Jessel I can't get the idea out of my head that this smells like tree sap. It smells exactly like roses mixed with tree sap. I love it!

    Searching for the Perfect Vanilla?

Have you guys tried U Mutter Museum? I got a frimp of it in a swap and when I first put it on my wrist I immediately thought, "NO! Not for me!" Shrugged my shoulders and walked away. About 30 minutes later I kept getting whiffs of this delicious smell but I honestly did not know where it was coming from because it smelled nothing like the perfume I had applied. When I realized it was me I couldn't stop huffing my wrist for the rest of the night. It is literally the best most divine smelling vanilla I've ever smelled. I have tried multiple BPAL vanilla blends but this... this is special. You just have to get past the "cologne" phase before it turns into something else entirely. I ordered a bottle.

    Pink Snowballs

2012 I was disappointed when I opened the bottle. Also disappointed when I put it on. I thought this would be the perfume for me, I love vanilla and I adore rose. But Pink Snowballs smells to me like a common teeny-bopper perfume with a pop star's name on it. It's not bad - I can see why a lot of people like it, but I just don't. Off to swap!

    Rose Red

2012 I just received my very 1st bottle of Rose Red 2012 today and let me tell you... I was blown away! I love it, I love it, I love it! It is just gorgeous. I couldn't ask for a more beautiful rose scent. Like everyone else says, it smells like cut roses in an ice cold vase full of water. But there is something warm there, too. Something... unexplainable. I have rose essential oil, I'm very familiar with the smell, and Rose Red is not just a plain old basic rose scent. It is SOOO beautiful.
  16. Sorry I don't have any recommendations for the previous posters... I'm fairly new but I love reading this thread. I myself am looking for something similar to Sugar Cookie... I have imps of Eat Me and Drink Me and I don't think they smell anything like Sugar Cookie.

    Snow Moon 2012

This is my first "cold" scent. It smells exactly like walking through a snowy forest when I first put it on. Then it turns into a snowy forest filled with flowers and berries. It's very Christmasy. When my sister, who didn't know anything about the scent except the name, smelled it she said, "...Christmas!" I agree with the previous reviewer, this scent is magical.

    Dia de los Muertos

2012 This perfume smells beautiful. I don't know if it's the power of suggestion or what but I can smell each scent listed in the description and I LOVE IT. It's my favorite Halloweenie.

    Bliss

Bliss came in my very 1st BPAL order yesterday. I absolutely loved it. Sweet, chocolatey goodness in a bottle. When I put it on I asked my kids what Mommy smelled like, two yelled at the same time, "CAKE!" When my husband came home and gave me a hug he said, "You smell like a packet of hot chocolate", which is funny because I read that other people smelled hot chocolate or brownie mix in the reviews but I didn't get that at all. I thought more along the lines of chocolate cake. I love sweet food scents and this is my favorite so far.
