Bottle: sharp, almost astringent. the berry, methinks, I know this note. Wet: same, the berry giving way to more of the branch. Dry: growing slightly bitter - the patchouli might be the culprit, if it's black patchouli. Later: while the edges are softening, the bitter remains. this doesn't like me somehow, and I was so certain it would be a keeper. crappit.

At last, the light at the end of our three-month tunnel of misfortune. To commemorate this momentous occasion, we present a big ol’ bottle of sunny, happy, bounciness -- a golden blend with a celebratory feel, promoting joy, peace, and a sense of comfort and well-being: golden amber, heliotrope, vanilla musk, carnation, daisy and sunflower bouquet, neroli, lemon peel, ylang ylang and honeycomb. Bottle: bright, sweet floral. Wet: still bright, somewhat less sweet, warming. Dry: softer, the sweet taking on depth. the honey isn't turning on me, nor is the ylang ylang nor neroli. yet. Later: both light and dark, broad and deep, slightly sharp (the lemon plus the neroli, I think) beneath shimmering gold. I didn't think this would work, and it almost doesn't but it's so complex and interesting...I gotta keep the decant. eta: decant, not imp. oopsie.

Bottle: fruit with a hint of green. Wet: same Dry: fruit is more clearly grapefruit, very sweet. vanilla. no woods that I can identify, yet. Later: grapefruit and aloe, vanilla and candy growing cloyingly sweet, very sweetened-fruity in affect. amping something...unpleasant.
-
Bottle: incense and floral, but a drier floral Wet: I can get the woods form this, now. very dry, dusty and dusky. Dry: old wood and that odd floral incense in the background...like the church it's wafting from has flowers at the altar on a holiday Later: evocative, dreary. the floral has passed and it is, indeed, old wood and incense.
-
Bottle: exquisite. the florals are translucent and mysterious. Wet: same, the violet, phlox, and lily are really spotlighted. Dry: the phlox, the lilac...its my mother's backyard at dusk in the spring... Later: the lily is amping as it's wont to do, but although it's now taking on a sort of old-ladyish edge to it...it's still so very pretty. I'll have to take this on another trial run before I decide whether it loves me or only likes me as a friend.

Bottle: spicy cocoa. no, seriously. Wet: hints of that spicy cocoa impression remain, but the amber deepens it. warm and right on the edge of foody. Dry: primarily spicy, very warm and a deep reddish brown in tone..the ginger and cardamom are really spectacular. Later: mellowed, but still warm spiciness. Foodier than I usually care for, but this is just so comforting, and complex, and warm...it'll be a seasonal wear, yes, but it's lovely.

The Best BPAL scents for young girls through teenagers
juniperus replied to Dulci's topic in Recommendations
Emma will be 10 in Dec - her stash: Asphodel Katharina The Unicorn Kostnice White Rabbit Antique Lace Baneberry Black Opal Mouse's Long and Sad Tale Alice Titania Black Forest Roadhouse (which smells all dandelion, no booze both on her and her brother) Queen Mab Euphrosyne Perhaps an all-Wonderland (with a copy of the book!) or all-Rappacini 6-imp collection might be a fun themed selection, since you aren't as likely to run into the sort of sexy scents you will find in Love Potions... edited to add: Emma is a Capricorn, but hard-headed and a drama queen and rather immature for her age (ADHD). Her runaway fave is Queen Mab followed closely by Black Forest. -
The Best Scents for Home, a Room, the Car...
juniperus replied to amberbella's topic in Recommendations
I'm looking forward to trying some Mistletoe in in a little over a month - it was meh on my skin, but I bet it'll make a gorgeous room scent (I have a little metal lightbulb-top diffuser now, so I'm itching to try it!) -
bottle: sharp lavender, and hints of more behind wet: I can detect the patchouli and tonka, but it's still mostly lavender dry: the amber still hasn't made its presence known, but the rosewood is playing back-up-singer to the patchouli, and the tonka is very sweet. later: amping tonka + patchouli - amber = leather? and stale cigarettes?
-
bottle: juniper and pine immediately assail, hints of the amber behind wet: the vanilla appears but the evergreen still dominate dry: the amber is a bit stronger, but the vanilla is really amped and the evergreens are barely getting through it later: aaaaall vanilla aaall the time. yegods. I'll have to try this on the hubster and see how it's supposed to smell.
-
bottle: oddly sweet and fruity and floral and smoky all at the same time wet: the dragon's blood resin is a little ore discernible out of the madness of the first sniff, and an almost nuttiness that must be the patchouli with the smoke, plus that odd and floaty floral above it all dry: still sweet and smoky, but also a fruity floral...kinda bar-b-que later: less smoky as time wear one...getting cloyingly sweet. ew, this doesn't like me.
-
bottle: bright floral, primarily rose wet: same, a sharpness underlying dry: there appears to be some jasmine here, and possibly also some vanilla or tonka - because both of these are amping in competition, and the rose is completely covered later: all jasmine and vanilla. granted, this isn't morphing, headache-inducing jasmine, so it's unexpectedly lovely on me..undoubtedly not the least like it must smell on anyone else, but it's very nice.

Help Identifying Notes, What Certain Notes Smell Like

Is there a strange celery-like scent? I have had that problem with most of the buttery note containing blends I've tried, alas. -
BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?
juniperus replied to beetiger's topic in Recommendations
I'll revive this thread, there are lots of new folks who might have kids they want to enable My kids' top-ten lists: Colin just turned 4- 1. Tombstone 2. Roadhouse 3. Gingerbread Poppet 4. SonomaScentStudio's Buddahwood Encens (I'll have to find a BPAL equiv. at some point - suggestions welcome) 5. Mad Hatter 6. Embalming Fluid 7. Dana O'Shee 8. Black Opal 9. Baneberry 10. (he's back and forth on whether he likes Port-au-Prince) Emma will be 10 at the end of the year- 1. Queen Mab 2. Asphodel 3. Titania 4. Amsterdam 5. Black Opal 6. Antique Lace 7. Black Forest 8. Thanatos (she says it smells like pickles) 9. Baneberry 10. Mouse's Long and Sad Tale (also in her collection are Katharina, Kostnice, The Unicorn, White Rabbit, and Alice) -
Feminine, immediately sharply green and lavender with a spiciness overlaying that broadens and eventually richly softens the green/floral. This has a lot of depth.
-
Bright and cheerful, fruity with a hint of powdery milk chocolate underneath.
-
Soft and fruity - almost Juicy Fruit, but not as sweet nor as childlike.
-
Softly floral, particularly rose. Very delicate and pretty, but goes a little soapy on my skin certain times of the month.
-
Soft floral, esp lilies. Gentle and spring-feeling. If a spring bloom could offer a soft kiss, this would be it.
-
Sharply minty, sassy, and a little dark resiny (I think) underneath. The darkness of the bottom note is an interesting contrast to the green, this blend feels energizing, to me, as this just doesn't dry down to a comfortable muddle of the two.
-
Bright, sweet cherries that immediately soften to soft almond over vanilla. This is subtle and ... peaceful.

Bottle: honey, vanilla, and milk Wet: I can really catch the citrus-y linen, now, dominating. no other notes are playing, yet. Dry: a hint of the tea, but mostly vanilla and linen on me. Later: The vanilla didn't get all morphed and amped this time, which was nice, but (as I've noticed with many of the other Mad Tea Party scents I've tried) it's short-lived. This is the kids', I'm just reviewing it - and actually it's now Emma's imp, as she (grumpy and off her meds) grudgingly admitted she likes it, and Colin had a definite NO reaction to it.
-
Bottle: citrus and lavender, very soft. Wet: the same, with a green note creeping up from behind. Dry: the green note is present, but not sharp the way pennyroyal has been known to get on my skin. Later: very nice. this is gentle, but, alas, it's also fading quickly. It may belong to Mr. C, I'll check with him once he's out of the tub (but he rarely says no to new smellies!)
-
Bottle: translucent floral, dewy. the orchid is very evident. Wet: helloooo jasmine and lotus! they are bullying the other notes. naughty. Dry: still amping. like nutz. I can smell nothing but jasmine with a hint of increasingly sweet/sour lotus. Later: the amping has stopped and held steady and I can catch hints of the orchid, again. odd. I'll try this again - might this be a jasmine I can wear? we'll see next week when my hormones will be different..but I'm still doubtful..
-
Bottle: both sweet and resiny. I'm guessing the bay rum is the sweet. Wet: the terebinth - I do catch a hint of an evergreeny-turp sort of edge (similar to the one I get from frankincense) that must be this note. the opoponax is easier to pick out, as is the myrrh. Dry: I can pick out the amber and patchouli, now, as well, but subtle opoponax has faded to the shadows. this is dark (well, duh), but not bitter, earthy without being earthy-dirty. Later: masculine, but not Masculine (ie: I can pull it off), a little sharpness remains but warm and nuanced beneath. Sadly I only got one bottle of this, but it's on the save pile - it'll age wonderfully and will be a perfect dark masterpiece for the winter months.
