    Monster Bait: Closet

I stole a drop of this from my sister and I have to say that this is buttery white cake in a bottle; warm, velvety and round. I don't go for foody smells myself, but I certainly don't mind that my sister smells like white cake all the time now.

    The Hesperides

The Hesperides are the Nymphs of the Evening who dwell in a verdant garden located in the Arcadian Mountains, guarded by the terrible three-headed dragon, Ladon. Within their garden lives the tree that bears Hera’s sacred Golden Apples. Their perfume is that of sturdy oak bark, dew-kissed leaves, twilight mist and crisp apple. This is the first and only BPAL scent that I absolutely couldn't stand. True, I am not into fruity scents as a rule, but I do find most fruity blends to be pleasant. Not the case with Hesperides. Normally, I love the smell of apples and I could eat them every day, but the apple in Hesperides, to me, is too ripe to eat, bruised and brown. I wished I could have gotten the crisp, golden apple scent that everyone else did, but I didn't. This is one that my sister won't have to worry about me stealing.

    Morgause

This reminds me of flowers that bloom in the springtime, which, in my mind, are light purple with bright, yellow accents. Violets? Yes, I think so. This is very girly in a bright, sunny way. For some reason, I keep picturing a freckle-faced girl in a purple dress running through a field of tall, wild grass.

    Eat Me

Ooh, this is white cake batter, dead on! It's sweet, sugary and creamy, with the tiniest hint of vanilla. It reminds me a little bit of Monsterbait: Closet, but it's less complex and whiter. I think I would have liked this more if I could smell the currants, but all I smell is cake batter.

    Black Hellebore

To me, this is a chilly, deep green scent. It's almost medicinal, but the flowers sweeten it up and take away that herbal bite. This is dark and not particularly feminine, but it's not masculine either. I don't know. This is pleasant, but not for me.

    Alice

On first whiff, this is creamy, milky carnations. As it dries down, it gets more powdery, and yes, it does smell like an old lady to me. This is pretty in an old-fashioned kind of way, light, dry and feminine, but sadly, not for me. I am in love with roses, and was hoping to detect the faintest trace of it in Alice, but I didn't.

    The Hanging Gardens

The Hanging Gardens is fruit, fruit, fruit with some cinnamon on top. On my first whiff, it smelled like bananas, but then I realized I was really smelling fig. This smells warm, brown and sickly sweet, like fruit that is just a bit too ripe to eat. It's really busy and is gives me a headache. This is not for me at all, but in all fairness, I don't go for fruity scents in general. I don't enjoy them and they are just not me. It doesn't help that this scent reminds me of my mother-in-law's house!

    Ode on Melancholy

Ahh, this is the scent of a cold night in a castle garden. It's gloomy, cold and hopeless, but the full moon is shining and the flowers are in bloom. This is soft and beautiful, and I can definitely sense the desolation in this blend. Absolutely beautiful!

    Vechernyaya

I'm really loving this right now. I smell mostly musk, and it's a soft, delicate musk. Some musks are so strong and feral that they just scream, "I am man!" but not this one. I find it to be warm and subtle, like the scent of skin. I think the poppy helps to sweeten it up just a enough to make it more feminine, but it is by no means a sweet scent. The patchouli takes a back seat in this blend. All in all, I think this is warm and sexy and a little dark, just the way I like it. I can imagine how some might find it to be masculine, but I don't get that at all. It's beautiful and I'll be wearing it a lot.

    Titania

This is a happy, fruity blend to me and it doesn't seem nocturnal to me at all. It's almost citrussy to my nose; bright, yellow and cheerful. And oddly enough, I thought I caught a whiff of hot candle wax in the distance, warming it up just a tad. Maybe it was the flowers, I'm not sure. Light and fresh, I think this would make a lovely summer scent for someone who likes fruity, fruity florals.

    #20 Love Oil

This is a light green herbal scent, it's sharp and to me, has a hint of soapiness to it. I like it, don't love it, but I'll have to see how it works on my husband when he gets home this evening. I'll post an update when I can. Update: DH didn't go for this at all. He made a face and said it reminded him of some kind of cleaning solution. He doesn't "get" herbal fragrances, for one thing, and he just likes florals on me. Voodoo magik doesn't work on him, apparently

    Lady MacBeth

When this first touched my skin, I thought, "Grape popsicle!" It's a sweet, dark purple scent that is clean and refreshing. I think this would make a great summer scent. After a few minutes, I could detect a splash of red berries and a little bit of something warm and herbal, probably the thyme. I like this on me, but I would LOVE it on my sister. She's into sweet, foody scents and I think she would adore this.

    Unseelie

This didn't morph at all from the imp ear to my skin. To me, it's the lighter, brighter, happier little sister of Wings of Azrael. This is a sparkly, light floral with a tinge of green (probably the grass?). It's very pretty and complex and reminds me of something my mother wears. I want to say Madame Rochas, but I could be wrong. I can see myself wearing this, but it suits my sister more (did you guess? She's my lighter, brighter, happier little sister). Yeah, I can totally picture this on her. The one drawback is that it doesn't last as long as I'd like. I couldn't smell it on my wrist at all after about an hour. I'd have to really pile it on, but that's not a good thing, as this is now discontinued.

    Pink Phoenix

In the bottle: This is super-sweet cough syrup. The strawberry kicks me in the nose, and it's medicinal and plastic. On my skin: The vanilla comes out and warms up the scent, making it much more pleasant and less chemical. After 5 minutes, it turns into warm, creamy strawberry dessert. It's very sweet and very... PINK, dark luscious pink, not fluffy candy cotton pink. It's not for me, so I'm glad it's my sister's and not mine. It's perfect for her because she's the sweet, cutesy one. This has good throw, and it's very long lasting. I dabbed some on last night before bed, and I can still smell it now. For me, this is not necessarilly a good thing, but if you're a pink kind of girl, you'll love it.
  15. Rose scents seem to work best for me. My guy loves Pride on me.

BPAL for Good Luck, Good Fortune, Good Karma

How about Has No Hanna? I've never tried it myself, but it seems to work very well for some people. According to the lab description it's supposed to bring a rush of good luck, lift the spirit, and help alleviate depression.
  17. Kabuki. To me, it smells like red licorice.

    'red' scents

To me, Nosferatu is a muted, dusty brown with tiny flecks of dark, dark green, the color of old, dried herbs.
  19. dnipbhsw

    I need more Cherry!

How about Kabuki? It's very cherry delicious, with a bit of spice.

    Chimera

I got a frimp of this with my first order. Right out of the imp, it's sharp, hot cinnamon, with a bit of sweetness underneath, but on my skin, all the sweet goodness just disappeared, and I was left with pure cinnamon. Not for me, I'm sad to say.
  21. dnipbhsw

    Kabuki

I got this as a frimp in my first order, and when I read the description, I was really hoping to love this. I love the smell of cherries and star anise, though I had never smelled the two together. And I'm a fan of Japanese culture, so the concept was intriguing to me as well. Alas, this one isn't for me. It reminds me too much of red Twizzlers, and though I love red Twizzlers, I'd rather not smell like one. This has a warm, round sweet sweet smell, with just a hint of bitterness. I will probably use this as a room frangrance. My husband says this reminds him of a candy store, and he could picture a young teenage girl wearing this, but not me.

    Wings of Azrael

My husband summed it up perfectly when I let him sniff Wings of Azrael on my wrist. He said it was sweet sadness. I'm not good at picking up individual notes like many of the experts here, but I know what I like and I like this very much. It's the smell of purple and white flowers, with just a hint of myrrh in the background. This is beautiful and feminine. Definitely a keeper for me.
  23. dnipbhsw

    Pride

Pride is a beautiful, crisp rose, with a hint of soft warmth right underneath the surface. This didn't morph on me at all from the first sniff in the imp to hours later dry on my skin. This is definitely the scent of pride, sophistication and confidence. I picture a supermodel fiercely stomping down the runway with a look in her eyes that says, Screw you, screw you, and screw you too, because you are merely dust on the bottom of my expensive designer shoes!
  24. dnipbhsw

    Nosferatu

In the bottle and wet on my skin: Warm, sweet herbs. This is the smell of dirt after it rains, but more beautiful and... sad. Dry on skin: I love how this has dried down into a bouquet of herbs and what seems like dried flowers, which is probably the wine. To me, if this fragrance had a color, it would be a swirl of dark, blood red and pale purple. All in all, I absolutely adore Nosferatu but I wouldn't wear it every day or in very traditional settings, like say, church or dinner at grandma's. This is a sad, wistful scent that would be perfect for a cold, gloomy day, spent indoors and reading a great book.

    Fenris Wolf

My husband loved this from the moment he first sniffed it in the imp to the very moment it faded away hours later. The first words out of his mouth when he put it on his skin were: spicey, masculine and wild! He said it makes him want to go to a tavern and order a big beef steak with gravy and some Guinness on tap. On the dry down, the warm sweetness of the musk slowly emerged, but never got too sweet. The more I smelled it, the more it reminded me of a forest of ancient, giant redwood trees. This is a very sexy, and warm complex blend that men will love and women will love on their men.
