  1. I love to wear my patchouli-heavy scents in the summer... maybe it reminds me of my teenage summers in the 60's/70's so in heavy rotation right now are Banshee Beat, Occupywallstreet, Gobln, and Anne Bonny, with some Hetairae on occasion.

Tried Carnival Wax? BPAL suggestions needed!

You have gotten some great recommendations and I think we are also scent twins! Since you already bought Snake Oil, I highly recommend Tombeur in the VILF section. Also seconding the Mme. Moriarty when the Carnival returns.

    Butterfly Nectar Bath Oil

I'm not a "floral" girl when it comes to my perfumes, but I adore Puddin's bath oils so I've learned never to miss out on at least trying them out whenever I can, so I got a decant of Butterfly Nectar. I applied as my after-shower moisturizer (my typical method of using the bath oils) and OMG is this beautiful! The only note I can actually detect is honey, although it's not a listed note. It's not a strong honey, but is certainly part of the nectar. As for the florals and petals, I can't pick out any individual notes, but since I rarely wear florals that isn't surprising. What is a surprise is how beautifully everything melds into a sweet, soft scent that doesn't turn powdery and has made me a floral convert. I will definitely be ordering a couple of bottles of this, as I think I will use it all summer long. Now I need to find a compimentary BPAL perfume to apply with it, as I always like my perfumes to complement the bath oils. This butterfly is truly nectar. edited because duh... I guess "honeyed petals" means honey.

    Satyr

I received this as a frimp from the lab, and OMG I love it! Strong red musk, cinnamon, with a hint of vetiver as an undernote that grounds it and gives it an earthiness, and it's very long-lasting. I don't feel that it's masculine, but I have no problem wearing heavier, dark scents. I wish I could convince my husband to try it though, as I bet it would smell awesome on him.

    Le Lèthè

LE LÈTHÈ- a beautiful dark coppery red blood color. Red musk is one of my favorite notes and at first, that's all I get. If it stayed pure red musk it would be fine with me, but after about 5 minutes the tobacco comes out, followed by the hemlock. Together the notes blend with the red musk and tone it down into a dark musky scent. I really like this, and bet it will be even better after it ages. Edited to add that I applied it before bed, and it is very long-lasting. The next morning it was still very apparent. Love this! and have already decided I will need a backup bottle!
  6. Oh thanks for the tip. I will be on the lookout for both. When I do I will let you know how I made out with them. I need some absolute favorites. Luck and Laughter,Tricia I have Hollywood Babylon. I really like it a lot. It was one of my first purchases. Thanks,Tricia I too am a red musk junkie, so don't forget about Lust, in the Sin & Salvation section. Love it a lot!

    Voodoo

At first there was a strong almond scent, but the almond burned off quickly and then it was all vetiver, which was unexpected. I hadn't read the notes but for some reason I didn't realize there was vetiver in this scent. Fortunately I'm ok with wearing most vetiver scents. After finally reading the notes, I shouldn't have been surprised to pick it out so fast because I amp vetiver. I don't mind Voodoo and will wear the imp, but this isn't a scent that grabs me enough to buy a bottle.
  8. I too adore The Night Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches and am interested in finding a similar GC. I am hoping that Dracul and might be similar but I haven't tried it yet. The RPGs might be a good route to take - perhaps an Evil Elf Ranger or a Lawful Gnome Ranger? I have an aged bottle of Dracul- it was my first bottle purchase in early 2006, and when it was fresh all I got was a minty orange scent. Now that it has aged, it is a dark clove, minty orange. I like it better now that it's aged, but unfortunately, it's nothing even close to Night Hag on me. But I haven't tried any of the RPGs, so I will look into them. I will have to dig through my massive collection of imps to see if I have Odin because I haven't kept up my spreadsheet. I don't think I have it, though, so will try it along with those RPG scents. Thanks for the recs! And if anyone else finds a good Night Hag-ish scent, please let me know.
  9. I love The Night Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches and am so glad that I ordered a bottle while it was live. I have never been interested in pine scents before, but the sandalwood and smoke are wonderful, and I think it I've discovered a new love in the terebinth pine note. Can anyone recommend something similar? I've tried Black Forest, but it is lacking the smokiness that I love with Night Hag, and I can't think what to layer it with to bring out the smokiness of Night Hag. I'm also hesitant to randomly try other pine scents for fear of them smelling like bathroom cleaner.

    The Storyteller's Parlor Atmosphere Spray

I expected this one to have more notes come through, but all I get is the leather armchair. None of the pipesmoke or brandy, and I was really hoping for the firewood scent to come through. Leather is not my favorite note, and unfortunately this one is all leather. I think I may try it out in my car, though, because it almost has a new car smell to it. It is very long-lasting and not unpleasant if you like leather. Updated review after trying it out in the car: Now this scent is awesome! I sprayed two squirts towards the carpeted floor mat on the passenger side of my car. As it dispersed, the leather faded and there was the scent I had been hoping for! Definitely wafting pipesmoke and a slight brandy. When I returned to my car after work, the scent was lingering and is exactly as described. I'm so glad that I gave this another try in the car! I drive one hour each way to work and usually listen to audiobooks, so now my car is my storyteller's parlor .

    Hockey Urchin Bath Oil

This is an interesting scent- not unpleasant, but not OMGLOVE like most of the bath oils have been to me. I haven't tried it in the bath yet, but I can see that this one will probably be better used as intended, rather than as an after shower moisturizer. The patchouli is present, but it's more of a grassy, herbal patchouli, tempered by the chamomile and spices. It's not overwhelmingly spicy though, even when applied post-shower I didn't get any burn from the ginger or spices, and all of the notes seem to blend together. Not one of my favorites, so I'm glad that I only got a decant of this one first.

    Winter Wind Atmosphere Spray

This actually smells cold, like a freezing windy winter day. I can't believe it! Like stepping out into one of those late January days when we always seem to get a cold spell and the wind-chill drops to below zero. While not unpleasant, I don't really like it as a room scent. This is a good bathroom scent, however.

    Unspeakably Evil Temple Atmosphere Spray

Unspeakably Evil Temple is my holy grail of the atmo sprays! I adore the deep incense, warmth, and woodsiness. Frank and myrrh dominate, but there is a depth and darkness beyond them. This is so much better than Yuletide Yet to Come, and I thought that one was perfect! I drive 100 miles a day roundtrip to/from work so I spend a ton of time in my car. I sprayed a blanket that I keep in my car, so my car is now my evil temple.

    Good Cheer Atmosphere Spray

I love to eat roasted chestnuts but I couldn't for the life of me describe how they smell. My dad used to fix chestnuts for us to snack on at Christmas time, so I always get a nostalgic feeling when I fix them, especially now that he is gone. Christmas was also his birthday, so the smell of roasted chestnuts is very comforting to me and completely evokes Christmas, my dad, and my childhood. However, they are really hard to find and expensive too, so I don't have the opportunity to smell them often. Now that I have a decant of Good Cheer, I can smell the roasted chestnuts whenever I want to! This is warm roasted nuts, with a sweetness from the fig, but not too sweet. It makes me feel comfortable and cozy and warm, and I just adore it. Going to have to order a full bottle of this one for sure, and quite possible a backup just to be sure I don't run out!

    Scent for Halloween?

All day yesterday I wore The NIght Hag Visiting the Lapland Witches, which smells more Christmassy than Halloweenish to me. Changed over to Midnight Mass last night before going to bed. Today it's back to Egg Nog Bath Oil and Egg Nog 2011 perfume.

    The Old Lady Scents

I completely agree, and would much prefer if this thread were retitled as "Classic" or "Timeless." Maybe I'm being oversensitive, but I also find that phrase insulting and derogatory when used as a description. There are many forumites of varying ages here, and I am one who may qualify chronologically to be considered an "old lady" in the eyes of someone much younger. I know that when I was twenty, it seemed that fifty was old. It is amazing how my friends in their 60's now seem young to me because I'm not far off from hitting that decade. Besides, I would never consider anyone who has the good sense to love and wear BPAL to be an "old lady" in the derogatory manner in which it is often used to describe scents. There is even another thread in the Randomness section called "Old Broads of BPAL " and we proclaim and wear our age proudly. Aging is something that we all are doing on a daily basis, and someday every female forumite will be an "old lady." All that being said, and to keep this on topic, I love Halloween: Las Vegas with a passion, and while the scent doesn't necessarily evoke memories of my grandmother, somehow it fits my memories of her exactly! She passed away when I was very young and I grew up without grandmothers, but my recollection of her was seeing her sitting in her broken down recliner with a cigarette in her hand, in a cigarette holder, the long ash dangling off the edge, and her Manhattan in the other hand. Now that's my kind of "old lady."
  17. I ordered a goblin squirt of Unspeakably Evil Temple and have fallen in love with it. It has a dark incense feeling to it that goes well with my other incense scents. Even though it doesn't list clove as a note, I also love it with my perfumes that include clove and resins/incense: Heavenly Love and Earthly Love, Hellgate of Ireland, and Mort de Cesar in particular.

    BPAL for nausea

You mentioned that you usually like resins and incense, and I'm not sure if you stopped wearing them out of concern that they might make him sick, but maybe they will smell nicer to him than you think. I love Melainis, which is an incense scent on me. About a year and a half ago I took my cat to the vet. The lady working at the counter asked me what perfume I was wearing, and said it was the best thing she'd smelled in months. I was wearing Melainis. I went in to see the doctor with my cat, and when I came out and she was ringing me up she asked me to write down the name of the place where I'd bought my perfume. She proceeded to tell me that she had been going through chemo and nothing smelled good to her any more, and most things made her ill, and that my perfume was like heaven to her. I told her it was a limited edition, but I had about 2 decants left in the bottle in my purse so I gave it to her. She was so sweet and grateful and I was so happy to give her something that made her feel so good. Best wishes for your son's health.

    Snake Oil Bath Oil

I am firmly in the Snake Oil lovers club, and as such, I must NEVER be without Snake Oil bath oil. I keep at least one spare bottle on hand to age while another is in use. This is exactly as described and the perfect match to Snake Oil perfume. This makes the perfect after-shower moisturizer to layer with my perfume. The bath oil is smooth and applies easily to damp skin, or mixes beautifully in the bath water and scents the whole bathroom. This is my comfort scent, my sexy scent, my holy grail scent, and I am so happy that it is available in the general catalog.

    Luxuria Bath Oil

How is it possible that I have never reviewed this?! I adore red musk scents, and Luxuria is a staple in my collection and in heavy rotation. I keep a bottle in use (almost finished now) and a bottle aging in the closet. It layers so beautifully as an after-shower moisturizer with about half of my BPAL collection. Basically, it's Madame Moriarty in a bottle. Absolutely perfect if you love Red Moon '07, Lust, Smut, Infernal Lover, or any of the other fabulous red musk scents. I hope that this stays in the catalog forever!

    Candied Pumpkin

This is a very spicy pumpkin pie scent, but it has a darkness to it despite the citrus. Very strong throw, but I've received compliments from coworkers when wearing it, so it's not work inappropriate. I expected something a little sweeter, given the "candied" part of the name, but I think that comes from a candied ginger- like those sugared ginger candies. It seems like the same ginger that is in the black label version of 13, and that keeps it from being buttery or sweet. Overall, a very good pumpkin pie scent, in the same family as Blue Pumpkin Floss and Pumpkin Pie Bath Oil. And it's great layered with Marshmallow Pumpkin Pie Bath Oil if you want to sweeten it up a little.

    #occupywallstreet

I'm so glad that I waited to review #occupywallstreet until after sunshinedailybliss wrote her fabulous review, because I don't think that there's anything I can add that she didn't say more eloquently. Read her entire review if you don't believe me. The patchouli stays way out front, but the cocoa adds a luxuriousness to this that you wouldn't expect from a "filthy friggin' patchouli" scent. I love this scent, am so happy I ordered two bottles as soon as it went live, and definitely hope to get a couple more bottles before it comes down.

    Nightmare

OK, this is the strangest thing I've experienced with a BPAL scent. Almost all of these notes should work on me, but when applied, all I get is celery. An hour later, still nothing but celery. Yup, you are not working out at all and would definitely give me Nightmares if I didn't wash you off right now.

La Mort: Mon ironie dépasse toutes les autres!

Thankfully, I can smell the pomegranate more than the rose, and after about an hour I can still detect pomegranate, but the scent has softened to a a basic floral. Overall this is just another floral that doesn't work on me. It's not bad or anything, just not a "me" scent.

    Devil's Night

I have 2005 and 2009, but haven't even opened my 2009 yet, so this review is for the 2005 Devil's Night. At first, I get a note that is the same as the one in Samhain that goes medicinal on me. Fortunately, it's not as strong as in Samhain (which doesn't work very well on me because of it). The musk is definitely sugary and strong. This has hella strong throw and lasts forever! It's a very autumnal scent, and I can understand the relationship between the burning tires/fires of the night and this scent. It's definitely a keeper. edited to add: Thanks to rawgirl75, who brought it to my attention that 2009 Devil's Night may be significantly different from my bottle of 2005. At her suggestion I tried my 2009 and it is amazing and completely different! 2005 has the same menthol note as Sahmain, and 2009 completely lacks that note. This is all beautiful musk and smoke. It's very reminiscent of the musks in Smut with a little spice and smoke added. I should have tried this before, because THIS version is just wonderful.
