I've had an imp of this for a while, and had previously tried it. That time, my skin amped up the greenery, and I didn't get any of the rose. This time, things were different. In the vial: Mmm, a lovely deep red rose. Wet: This is one of the scents that takes a little while to amp up on me. This time I got the rose notes - that gorgeous deep red rose. I can also smell the dew and the greenery. I have no idea how Beth does this. Dry: Sadly, the scent doesn't last long on me - not even an hour. Strangely, I can't smell it much up close to the skin, but I get wafts of the lovely rose from time to time.

In the vial: Sweet and sharp at the same time. I get a lot of berry notes. On the skin: At first I thought that this was going to be a light, fruity blend. Something in my chemistry turned it dreadfully awry. Yes, this seems to be another scent that gives me the dreaded BPAL headache Damn. Dry: Now, almost twelve hours after I applied it, Oya is still present as a delicate skin scent. If it was like this wet, I suspect that I wouldn't have any headache issues. I still get that berry scent - it's kind of like a dark and smokey cherry. I've also been getting whiffs of a yummy vanilla-y incense over the evening.

In the imp: Very faint - I get a whiff of amber and that's about it. On the skin: Again, it's faint at first. Once it warms up it turns into a quite beautiful scent. It is very warm, and very much like a traditional antiwue perfume. Dry: The drydown is much the same - getting occasional whiffs of that antique perfume scent, with a bit of incense in there. Quite yummy

In the vial: Hmm, deep and musky. Wet: Still predominantely musk, but tempered by the other notes. Much darker than the other red musk blends I've tried. Dry: This scent has some throw, even hours later. The leather is coming out now, but mixing with the other scents to make something that almost, but not quite, smells like deep tobacco

In the vial: Very astringent and sharp. Wet: The astringent quality remains, with an almost metallic, earthy undertone. Dry: The sharp phase lasts an hour or two, after which the throw is dramatically reduced. I can smell the florals now, but only close to the skin. They're very cool, and smell white.

In the vial: Quite masculine and very heavy on the incense notes. Wet: The amber takes over. It's a gloriously warm scent, and has a real sense of being something sacred. The incense notes fade into the background somewhat, and the warm amber, honey and sandalwood take over. Which is the most dominant changes from hour to hour. Dry: It's almost twelve hours since I put this on and I'm still getting whiffs of it. It's still very warm, with undertones of the myrrh and frankincense. The other scents occasionally peek out. I don't get much of the red musk in this, except as a foundation to all the other notes.

In the vial: There's a sharpness to this immediately - I think it's the ylang ylang and geranium blending. Wet: The frankincense peeks out for a little while, and then the scent sharpens again. I get the ylang ylang amplified the most, with the rest of the notes playing in the background. Dry: Softened ylang ylang.

In the vial: Rich amber. Wet: This is a very warm scent - my skin amps up the amber and vanilla musk in particular. I don't get much of the violet or sage. Dry: Another scent that doesn't last long on me, unfortunately. Everything but the amber fades very quickly, and the amber itself was gone within a few hours.

In the vial: Almost astringent. All sharp grapefruit. Wet: The grapefruit dominates at first, and then the other scents come in to play, their sweetness tempering the sharpness of the grapefruit. Dry: This only lasts about an hour on me, after which my skin eats it. The scent softens somewhat - I don't get the ginger at all. My skin likes to eat ginger, I think.

In the vial: Roses! To me, they smell like pink roses. Very slight incensey undertone. Wet: A lovely blend of pink rose and frankincense. Quite potent at first. Dry: The roses fade into the background, with the frankincense taking over. It's a lovely dry scent, very comforting. Unfortunately it doesn't last so long on me - fades within a few hours.

I have no idea what's up with my skin chemistry and BPAL's blends containing rose - for some reason, I hardly ever get the rose notes. In the vial: Rich and heady, musky and gorgeous. Wet: This is very intense on me wet. Again, all I get is the gorgeous red musk. For some reason, I also get a very warm vanilla-y undertone - I'm guessing that's the amber, but it's not like amber in other blends for me. Dry: The intensity of this blend fades after an hour or two. This is one of the longer lasting scents on me - it's the amber note that lasts on me the most. Again, it's very softened and almost vanilla on me - I keep on getting gorgeous whiffs of it for the entire day after. Spellbound has quickly become one of my signature scents. I must get a bottle.

In the vial: Butter, with just a hint of sugar. On the skin: Hm, butter still dominates. Lurking in the back is some of the sweetness. Drying down: My skin loves the buttery scents in this (just like Gingerbread Poppet) and amps them up, drowning out everything else. Verdict: It sounds so delicious, but my skin seems to love the butter too much. No fair.

In the bottle: Musk, thick and sensuous. On the skin: OMG excuse me while I go a little bit feral. I don't actually get the scent of the roses at all, just the lovely musk, rendered somewhat milky and sweet (I'm willing to bet that's the effect of the roses and amber). Drying down: This one lasts for a good while on me - maybe 4 hours - and has good throw for the first hour. The musk is still the dominant scent, but it's mellow and delicious and lovely. Reminds me a lot of one of my other BPAL loves, Blood Moon. Verdict: Oh Gods yes. Need a 5ml of this.

The black fruit and vanilla oaken notes of fine Medoc and De Grâve, but not a hint of the elusive Amontillado. In the vial: Weirdly, I don't get much scent at all directly from the vial. Wet: OMG Booze! I smell like I've been rolling around in rum. Can't stop sniffing my arm. Dry down: This dries down into a lighter boose scent. I can smell the fruit and vanilla softening the headiness of the booze. Delicious. Verdict: Tempted to buy a 5ml.

In the vial: Very light. Fruity, but almost the sense of scenting the memory of fruit. Wet I don't get any of the tea note, the fruity mandarin and blackcurrant giving way almost immediately to the mint. It seems an almost odd transition to me, and one that I wasn't expecting to be so abrupt. Dry down: This dries down into a lovely fruity concoction. Very little throw on me, more of a skin scent. Very delicate. Verdict: This one deserves a few more goes. I think I'll hang onto my imp for the time being, but no 5ml.

In the vial: Very sweet, almost foody to me. Wet Still quite foody. Weirdly, my skin seems to suck this up for a while before it begins releasing any scent. I get a wonderful mixture of carnation (one of my favourite scents) and honey. Very heady and utterly gorgeous. Drying down: I was a bit scared of the dry down with this, since tobacco has proven to not be a good note for me in other blends. However, the tobacco note remains in the background, the whole of the scent settling down into a wonderful dry, forboding incense. Verdict: Another one to add to my love list. I need a 5ml bottle.

In the bottle: thick and musky, very complex. On the skin: A bit overwhelming at first in its complexity. I actually don't get much of the cocoa note, just the complex, heady blend of notes. Drying down: Things begin to settle down now. For me, it's the blood musk that stays. It has a decent throw as well; I keep on getting random whiffs of it all the time. Verdict: I'll hang onto my imp, but I don't think it's going to be a 5ml purchase.

In the bottle: Sweet plums! On the skin: I get the plum note coming out initially, followed by what I presume is the peony. These are notes that are new to me and my chemistry, and I'm pleased that they work well. Drying down: It remains very sweet, but not cloyingly so. There's a hint of sweet musk underneath it all as well. Verdict: A winner. I wish I had more than an imp of this now. I'm hoping that Peony Moon may end up being similar on me.

In the bottle: Floral, and quite heady. On the skin: I get a sharp burst of the florals (I think the lily). Very aquatic, as others have noted. Drying down: The muskiness takes over now. While the florals are still there, they are muted down. I also get a very lunar quality to this - it reminds me of being in a garden filled with night-blooming flowers under a full moon. Verdict: Not sure if this one is for me. It's nice, but I'm undecided on it at the moment.

In the bottle: Gingerbread! On the skin: Gingerbread...but only for a little while. It seems a little dry on me - if it had more sweetness it would smell more like gingerbread to my nose. Drying down: Ginger and spices go away, the smell of burning wood comes out to play. Verdict: Doesn't seem to work well with my chemistry. Phooey. ADDED Sept. 5: This is my second trial of Gingerbread Poppet. I tried it a while ago, upon which time it smelled like burning. This try, happily, was better. In the vial: Quite faint to me, but distinctly warm gingerbread. Wet: Gingerbread! It smells like gingerbread fresh from the oven, warm and spicy. Drydown: The intenisty of this scent fades quickly. Still, hours later, I'm getting odd whiffs of cinnamon and cloves. Yummy. I think I may have to hunt up a bottle.

I really had high hopes for this one, seeing as I generally adore rose scents. In the bottle: There's rose in this? I get a very perfumy resin. On the skin: Very perfumy (read as: very floral but with no intense notes). Also very faint on me, with very little throw. Drying down: All resin. It's nice, but not me. Fneh. Verdict: Not for me, unfortunately. I suspect if I actually got a rose note out of it I'd like it, but alas, my chemistry doesn't want to let the rose out to play. Off to the swap pile. ADDED Oct. 10: In the imp: Pale, soft rose. Oooh, lovely. Wet: The rose comes out, but all too briefly. For the time that it's there, I get the gorgeous white rose, mellowed and turned almost dusty by the resins. Drydown: My skin eats this If I press my nose to my wrist, I can still get a faint whiff of resins and nothing else.

I really wanted this to work on me In the bottle: A fresh crisp rose, complete with greenery. On the skin: The greenery takes over on me unfortunately, and I can smell very little of the actual rose. Drying down: Greenery still! I get a little whiff of rose, but nothing like what I wanted. To the swap pile!

This scent is for the Luperci, the Chosen of Faunus, the Brothers of the Wolf: raw, down and dirty patchouli, Gurjam balsam, and essence of Sampson Root sweetened with the heightened sexuality of beeswax, virile juniper, oakmoss, ambrette seed over honey and East African musk. In the vial: Musky and murky. On the skin: I get a lovely incense-y scent for the first half hour or so. This resolves into two distinct notes on me - the patchouli and musk. I like it, but I don't love it. Drying down: The note blend again, but this time the musk is dominant. It's a nice warm scent, reassuring.

I love this scent so, so much. I am unhappy that I only have one little imp of it In the bottle: I get a very distinct blood scent, metallic and musky. On the skin: For some reason, on me the scent vanishes into my skin immediately. Only after a few minutes does the scent begin to warm up. Feral, musky and dead sexy. I did have one incident where the oil mixed with sweat and burned my skin - I'm guessing that was the cinnamon? Drying down: It dries down into a glorious musk. It's very long lasting on me too. I wore it out one night, and it was still on my skin the next day. I want to hoard all the Blood Moon I can find.
