Oh this is nice. I amp honey and this is very ,very honey on me. I also love tuberose. Wet: It's very strong with the honey coming out in front. I am picking up on the patch and it's grounding this scent. No booze yet but I think I understand what the skin musk smell is now. Dry: More of the same. All the notes are blended very well. I get whiffs of straight up honey sometimes but mainly it's like a honey, musky, patch sort of smell with a subtle floral backing. Very much like O only stronger with more depth. This did last a while on me. I put this on when I came home from work and could still smell it as I went to sleep. That's pretty good for me. Some people said they smelled peanut butter on this but I didn't pick up on that at all. Big bottle list for sure.

GAH!! No I am sooo not a violet fan. Vetiver and I do not gel well together; so this is not a good scent for me. Funny thing is that violet was there at the start but when dry all I had left was slap you in the face vetiver. It's wasn't the subtle vetiver either..this was loud. We have an elderly man who comes into my office to get us to help him with the internet. This smells like him. He is about 75 years old. It's his after shave I think I am picking up on. But it's strong and a bit off putting. On the upside it lasted an insanely long time. I had to wash it off to get it off of me.

BPAL scents appropriate for very young children?
Erinofhere replied to beetiger's topic in Recommendations
i think Yemaya would smell good on a child. It smells like melon bubble gum. -

Creosote, coal, and industrial waste. Ohhhh..this is not bad I purchased an imp for my husband. He is loving all the BPAL guy scents because he says they don't smell like regular cologne. Also if I throw in a few imps for him to try and get a big bottle of his favorite he turns a blind eye to how much I order Wet: Strong! This throws your head back sort of. It gave me a bit of a wheezing sensation as well. Harsh would be the correct word. It stands up to your senses and smacks you around for a second. Then it calms down and behaves. Also the color in the imp is perfect. It looks like the color of industrial waste sludge. It’s very thick and dark brown. Love it. Dry: Smoke (lots of smoke)Vetiver(?) and metal. Occasionally it smells a bit like hay (not grassy like vetiver) and sometimes pine. This is a hard one to pinpoint what exactly it is that I smell. I think we are picking out a bit of rum as well and something very sweet too maybe a very dark vanilla…like the darkest vanilla possible. Basically to me this smells like a very well dressed man who is walking on a foggy day through an industrial park. CRAZY! It doesn't last too long and it doesn't play well with everyone. My sister said it made her feel chocked. We are for sure getting a big bottle and will just be careful when he wears it. -
Oh Bess..you are amazing. This was a frimp from the lab and I gotta say I am blown away! I don't care for lemon and I don't care for rosemary unless I am cooking with it. grape spirit? What like wine? nope not for me...mint? umm no thank you. Roses? Pass. But this works. This is simply beautiful. It has absolutely no staying power on my skin but I am still getting the big bottle of this. Wet: Mainly Rosemary and rose with a bit of mint lurking in the back ground. Dry: I never do really pick up on the lemon peel. I do get the rose, rosemary (a lot of Rosemary) mint (only slightly)and white grape. The grape is the most unusual. It almost smells like grape peel maybe? It’s hard to put my finger on what it actually is that I a smell. This must be more like a real grape than wine. This is floral without being floral. It’s a very perplexing scent to say the least. This is beautiful. It’s very feminine and very wearable. This to me feels like a summer perfume but honestly I'm in love with it so much I would wear it always. It also zings a part of my brain when I wear this. It makes me happy and content...like I have been searching for this scent and finally found it. It’s hard to explain. Bess just does it or me. I think maybe my great Aunt (my favorite one) used to wear something similar. When I smell this I think of her. Strange that I really don't care for most of the notes but yet Bess has turned into one of my favorites. When weenie madness is over I am ordering a big bottle of this. Maybe 3.

Curiouser and curiouser. Milk and honey with rose, carnation and bergamot. Frimp I amp honey and milk so mainly that's what I get. The rose and carnation are there only slightly. I am not picking up on bergamont. The rose starts to come out much stronger on dry down and eventually this turns into an almost powder thing. It’s not bad. This does remind me of tea and this smells exactly like Alice should smell, very pretty and very sweet. This smells "young" but not so young that I would feel odd about wearing it. I like this, only it doesn't last very long on me. I think I am going to age this imp for a year and see if the bergamont may get stronger. I should have ordered Alice in the pumpkin patch from my decant circle. Well there is still time.

Frimp from the lab Oh I have to have a big bottle of this. This reminds me of clean hair. I know that probably sounds odd..But I want this smell all around me. This is a very special blend. I love it! From the vial I smell mainly spices and musk. On my skin I pick up on musk, spices (not harsh spices, subtle spices) and a hint of floral. Later: red Sandalwood and musk and spices with a very pretty floral background. I only wish this had better staying power. After a few hours it vanished. I am ordering a big bottle just as soon as weeenie madness dies down. I think I saw Morocco over at BPTP as maybe a room spray or something...I may have to buy everything this scent comes in. I want it that bad.

Grants courage under extreme conditions, helps overcome fear of death, and strengthens the fortitude of artists and businessmen, enabling them to further their goals. Frimp from the lab. This reminds me very much of Dragons Milk. Dragons Blood must be in this. I love Dragons Milk so I love this as well, only Wolfs Heart didn't last as long as Dragons Milk on me. Since I find the two so similar I won't be getting a big bottle of Wolfs Heart and I will swap the imp out. But this is a very pretty comforting scent.

Miskatonic left me under whelmed. I was hoping for coffee and wood and maybe parchment. I am only picking up butter toffee. Possibly a small dose of wood but just barely. No dust, no books. I am going to let this one age a bit and see if it helps. It may just be my strange chemistry. But so far Miskatonic is not a win for me. It does have decent staying power however. I am 5 hours in and can still smell it pretty strong.

Call me crazy but I actually enjoy the smell of suntan lotion. It makes me think of (obviously) summer at the beach. This however did not smell like suntan lotion on me. I was a bit sad about that, because a lot of reviews said this was very suntan lotion-ish scent. In the imp: All I can pick up on is floral and aquatics (maybe the white musk?) wet: Again floral and chemical. It's sort of harsh at this stage and due to the strong chemical smell I almost wanted to go and wash it off Dry: Much better. Black Pearl mellows out in the dry stage to a very wearable summer scent. It's not real strong and it faded pretty quickly on me. However if I am picking up on coconut it's subtle. I get whiffs of it now and then but mainly all I can smell consistently is floral. No hazelnut. I think my nose gets bombarded by certain floral and becomes overwhelmed so that I can't get my bearings..so it's hard to pick out any one scent on this. It's pretty but not really what I was going after. I will keep the imp, but I won't be buying the big bottle.

The Antikythera Mechanism

LOVE THIS! It's a bit too masculine for me but we got the big bottle for my husband. This smells sexy on him. He amps woods and tobacco but he amps them in good ways. The vanilla rounds all of this out and just makes him smell yummy . -
His scent is soft English leather, rosewood and tonka with a hint of incense, parchment and soft woods. My husband wears Tombstone as his everyday scent. I really don't like Tombstone all that much. It's okay I guess but I ordered him a few imps to see if we could find him a better everyday scent. I think we may have found it. Dee is really nice. Dee is very masculine but not loud or over powering. I do smell the leather and rosewood, tonka, parchment and woods. I don't smell incense at all. Husband is fine with that. He thinks all incense smells like a head shop anyway. This doesn't last all that long and has low throw. He prefers a scent with low throw so this works for him. He still can't forsake his beloved tombstone but said he would wear this just as often. Ordering a big bottle with pay check.

Offerings of milk, honey and sweet grains were made to placate these creatures, and it is that the basis of the scent created in their name. This reminds me very much of Bramble Berry's Milk and Honey candle and soap making fragrance. I made a huge batch of cold process using this fragrance last year. I still have some bars left. So I layer Dana over the soap I used in the shower at night. So comforting. This is a cuddly, sleepy, warm and content smell. It doesn't last long at all. That's a shame. If this lasted longer I would buy a bottle. I still may buy one. But I have many more HAVE TO HAVE IT bottles on my list. Dana O'Shee didn't make the top 5. In the imp and wet I get honey and milk. I suppose I get the grains too but mainly it's Milk and Honey. This is the perfect scent for long winter sleeps. Shame it doesn't last longer.

A seductive and dazzling blend of golden honey, fiery patchouli, sweet fig and clove, and a blushing touch of ylang ylang. Frimp from the lab I love all things honey and beeswax and pollen smelling. This one hits the mark with me. It's initially strong smelling but calms down very quickly. It calms down enough that it is a candidate for layering. I layered it with "O" a few times and with lights of men’s lives. Lights of men’s lives and Hetaire are made for each other. In the imp: No honey yet. I do get the fig and the clove. I am getting a sharp floral but not so much ylang ylang. The patchouli is there as well but not in your face as usual for patchouli. Wet: Oh there's the honey! This smells very spring time, very pollen like. Hetaire reminds me of sunny days in warm fields with the bees buzzing around me and the clover blooming. Dry: The scent calms down but does not disappear. It stays pretty much the same, meaning that all the notes stick around, only they don’t over power. I do like this one. It seems that women I am around like Hetaire. Most men don't seem to. My husband is not a fan unless I layer "O" with this. I don't care I am still buying a big bottle

Vanilla, two ambers, sweet pea and white sandalwood This is hands down my favorite BPAL so far. It has replaced my beloved dragons milk and my second love "O". Oh my goodness this smells so pretty. Mainly I get the vanilla and sandalwood. The Sandalwood keeps the vanilla from being too sweet. I have learned that Sandalwood and Vanilla are my favorite scent combinations. I do get amber in the back ground. The Amber never goes powdery on me. The sweet pea is there but it sort of circles the scent keeping everything together. This is very sweet but not too sweet. It is very pretty and girlish. It's comforting in that special way that vanilla is comforting but also has an elegance that would make this a scent that you could wear out to anywhere. This is well blended with pretty good throw. It lasts a reasonable amount of time (not as long as Dragons Milk but longer than "O"). I want to be able to buy vats of this. I want this in soap, pillow spray, Shampoo...laundry detergent basically I would be happy if this scent was all around me all the time. If you like Sandalwood and Vanilla GET THIS! I mean the lab really out did themselves this time. Well done BPAL.

This is another one of those scents that morphs on your skin. In the bottle it smells a bit like toilet cleaner. On my husband’s skin it smells much better. The tobacco is very sweet but the musk and resins settle it down. We don't pick up on any leather note. Not getting much smoke. Sweet tobacco and resins is pretty much it. Its okay...but not a favorite.

Frimp from the lab: Lavender and Anise I think with something else there too. Maybe herbs, maybe some sort of kitchen spice? It started smelling a bit like burned plastic after awhile and I had to wash it off . This one is not for me. Off to the swap pile.

FINALLY a coconut that works on me! I'm so happy This was a frimp In the imp: Straight up fresh coconut meat on my skin: More of the same but the Shea is coming out. I keep forgetting that Shea is one of my favorite smells. This is turning into a lovely scent on my skin and would be perfect for summer. It does remind me of suntan lotion. That’s okay with me because I LOVE suntan lotion. This feels like I should be on the beach. I'm not picking up on water, but I am getting the feeling like a faint aquatic is lurking around this scent sort of rounding it out, only I can't put my finger on it. Dry: Has decent throw and the scent doesn't change much. It doesn't last all that long but I do think a big bottle is in my future. I think I have found my summer scent. Seriously, ever other coconut blend I have tried from BPAL has left me sad. This one is so perfect. This is the scent you want to take with you to the islands. This is the best coconut blend so far. I am one happy girl right now.

As mentioned before Scarecrow. Scarecrow to me smells like hot August in the country. I grew up on a farm and we had lots of fields. In August when the rain hadn't come in weeks, those fields turned into dry crunchy yellow fields that had a smell all their own. That smell is Scarecrow. Also Sheol to my nose smelled grassy. It may be just me

I have a love/hate relationship with patchouli. Most of the time, it turns into moldy dirt on my skin. Occasionally it turns into magic. Lust turned into moldy dirt This was a frimp from the lab. I have to say that when a concoction has both red musk and patchouli it probably won’t work for me. Or it may need to age. This does remind me of a less feminine version of Snake Oil or Vixen and I hated Snake Oil until I aged it. I had my husband smell it to see if he wanted to take over the imp and he declined. He said it didn't do anything for him. I may age it for awhile and see if it helps but as of right now this is a huge NO. It smells like cologne and dirt. It's also for some strange reason making me sneeze. It does have very good throw and staying power. Unfortunately it doesn't morph into anything better. I am getting no ylang-ylang and I suspect the myrrh is there but is hiding behind the red musk and only peeking out slightly. I’ll give it 6 months. If aging doesn’t help it, this one will go into the trade pile.

Deep cocoa laced with patchouli, leather armor, ritual incense, and a touch of Xochiquetzal’s flowers. Frimp from the lab. Oh my! This is sexy. My husband will be getting the big bottle for sure. Wet it smells very chocolaty and yummy. Dark and smooth with the leather coming out very slightly. On his skin: Chocolate and leather and patchouli. The good patchouli, not the cheap head shop kind that everyone wore in 11th grade. This stuff smells amazing. I would have never guessed I would have liked this so much. I generally hate the small of chocolate unless it's actually edible. This is divine. We will get a big bottle. Oh yes. It had decent throw but didn't stick around too long on him. This one is a new masculine favorite. A girl could wear this as well. It's just too masculine for me to pull of personally.

Bright violet with sweet clove, Mediterranean incense notes and tonka bean. This was a frimp from the lab. To me this smells a lot like apothecary. It's nice but generic and doesn't last all that long on my skin with hardly any throw. I am picking up on the clove and that's awesome because I love clove and hardly ever get a chance to wear it. The violet is very strong at first but settles down and gels well with the incense. Personally I didn't pick up on much tonka.

the innocence of the Garden, coupled with the Truth and Erudition found in the fruit of the Tree of Evil: fig leaf, fig fruit, honeyed almond milk, toasted coconut and sandalwood. Mainly what I get is the honeyed almond milk and the toasted coconut. I didn't pick up on the sandalwood or the fig all that much. I didn't pick up on fig leaf at all. meh.. It also didn't last very long at all and had no throw on me whatsoever. I really enjoy fig and I adore coconut..but unfortunately fig wasn't strong enough and so far the lab's coconut note doesn't suit me (hopefully it's not how it will always be with the labs coconut note, I have only tried two with coconut listed in the description) This imp is going into my trade bin.

Frimp from the lab All I can smell is Crunch and Munch. Very buttery, very edible. Only thing is I don't care so much for foody. I love creamy honey vanilla-ish type of smells, but this is just too close to dessert for me. I did not pick up on roses or blackcurrant. My husband loved it on me, but I just kept wanting to eat my wrist. I will keep the imp and break it out occasionally this winter, but I don't see a big bottle in my future. One weird side note. The day I got my package from BPAL I was at work and I broke all of the imps out and gave them all a quick smell. Knave of hearts smelled to me like coconut that day. I swear it did. But last night when i went to give that imp a test drive the coconut was nowhere to be found. Odd. Obviously coconut should not have been in there since it's not a note in this scent. I wonder if my brain short circuited from smelling all the other imps and registered caramel/buttery note as coconut?

frimp from the lab Well...I tried a few times to make this one work for me. Unfortunetly Sheol and I do not get along. My little sister loved this, so it's hers now. The description sounds lovely. Lily, gladiola, heliotrope and tonka. But on me, it turns into onions. Most 'green" smells do. In the imp it smelled wonderful, like dried flowers with a bit of herbs and resins. As soon as I applied it to my skin it went straight to green onions and grass. It did have pretty good throw and it lasted quit awhile. I just have a strange chemistry when it comes to 'green" smells.
