Wet: Grassy matcha and citrus! Dry: Very nice fresh citrus, though it does fade very fast.

Wet: Dark, rich, smooth redness and musk. Oo. I see why this has gotten so much hype. Dry: This is a really nice red musk, warm and with a juicy background. Plummy, almost. Lovely, delicious and easy to wear. I can even detect the rose without it swamping the scent! A total winner.

Wet: Very sweet--lemon sherbert! Dry: A slightly less sticky lemon sherbert. Sort of fizzy and bright. A good throw on this, too. It'll be great in the heat of summer!
-
Wet: Almost entirely that warm honey-dust note I like from Famous Kabuki Actors and Ghost Milk, with a faint creaminess underneath. The 'honey dust' note Beth uses doesn't seem to die on me like honey does, so I'm optimistic it won't powder out. Dry: Lovely, mostly honey-dust, very sweet and musky. This is also the first BPAL I've ever worn that my cat didn't flinch away from, freshly-applied, when I petted her!

Dried Strawberries, Red Musk & Bourbon Vanilla
storme replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Duets & Menage A Trois
Mostly red musk on me, with an undertone of ripe strawberry. Very reminiscent of Mania, exactly what I'd hoped it would be, and I love it. -
Wet: grapefruit and ginger (delicious!) Dry: a very pretty light citrus blend, sharp but not overpowering. This is extremely lovely and I'l keep it in mind if I want another shimmery-bright summer scent.
-
Wet: leather and warm amber, very promising. Dry: a well-blended leather/tobacco/amber combo, warm and nice but a bit generic overall. I suspect it might age very nicely!
-
Wet: woods, with a musky-dark smokiness over it. Dry: the hungry ghost ate all of this! there's the faintest wisp of woods and wisteria left on my skin. I applied plenty so that's, uh, definitely interesting. Oh well.
-
Wet: mostly vetiver, some warm tobacco. Dry: a tobacco/wood blend. It sweetens up with time into quite a pleasant tobacco note! I don't get much else except that tobacco, though; it seems to obscure the other notes.
-
Wet: very very minty! Dry: a slightly watery peppermint! It reminds me of the original Nuclear Winter. Definitely a keeper; in hot weather this will be a lovely scent.
-
Will be anointing candles with this another time, but I anointed my shrine to Bast with this tonight and it's so cheerful and uplifting! A very beautiful and appropriate scent.
-
This is so good; it's possibly even better as HG than as perfume! It's rich and warm tobacco-vanilla with a woodsy tinge.

All Hallows Chaos: Pumpkin Spice (variant #27) Wet: Pumpkin spice and... musk? There's some oud, I think, in here too, but the non-poopy kind. Dry: Oh. Oh this is nice, a really pretty traditional-perfume sort of hit? Not very pumpkin-spicey but beautiful. Oud is so good when it's g(oud) not p(oud).

This is sweet, creamy, spicy pumpkin cake! I'm not getting any of the burnt edge people talk about above at all.
-
Gosh the oud really is uh, something here. Yikes. It thankfully calms the hell down after a while, and becomes a softer laundry-ish scent, but this is one HG I'm gonna have to remember to apply early (not just before I leave home) so it's not in diaper mode when I'm getting in someone's car. (Okay, no, if I sniff my hair it's still very indolic under the laundry, so I think I will pass this on to someone else.)

I was generously sent a small decant of this to try! And wow. I can see why it's got so many fans. It's creamy vanilla and a dark, rich, sultry patchouli, less dirty hippy and more sexy, smoky, earth goddess. If it was less rare I'd be snapping up bottles.
-
Wet: tea, plum and ginger (my dream!) Dry: this has stayed really good; a pretty, light citrus scent with a hint of plum and incense. I'm not getting much of the wood or the pepper, but there's a hint of the smoky incense in the back. This is a really pretty, summer-y scent!

Okay, so, Snake Oil and Smut are both flops on my skin, and so it shouldn't be surprising: this didn't work on me either. I just smelled like someone tried to cover up wet, dirty clothes with patchouli incense. I was so hopeful based on reviews on facebook from other people who don't get on with Smut! My feeling is that I suspect if you have better luck with SO than I do that you'll have much more fun with this scent.

An understated warmed amber, that saffron giving it a slight nudge of sensuality. Quite skin-close, for me, but long-lasting.

Really refreshing and light combination of bright, white-feeling scents, that coconut giving it a beachy feel to me, and I think this will be great for summer.

Famous Kabuki Actors in Imagined Scenes of Lovemaking
storme replied to zankoku_zen's topic in Lupercalia
Mm! tobacco and honey and vanilla with a woodsy base. Better blended than that makes it sound, probably: it's a really smooth, rich scent, an almost gourmand sort of honeyed tobacco/wood. I don't get on well with the lab's honey scent usually but the honey dust is a delight here. -
Sparkling, fizzy, sharp citrus! One hell of a throw. Never gives off the plastic or fruit-rollup tinges I sometimes get in BPAL fruit-forward blends, stays really effervescent.
-
Why I bought this: I get on well with vetiver usually, and I like tea scents. Wet: earthy tonka and tea leaves. Dry: Mm! Mostly tonka, not gonna lie--what I'm learning from duets and trios is that one scent usually dominates in these on my skin--but it's a really nice tonka with just a whisper of tea and vetiver.
-
Why I bought this: I... like coffee and books? Wet: a sort of... green something and books smell. I mean, in the bottle this is marzipan, which is a concern. Dry: It's driving me mad that I can't quite place this green note. Cucumber? Definitely a foody green thing, not at all coffee or books. Notes: this felt so far off the promised notes that I came to check forum reviews and bless whoever else said they got cucumber. It's not just me!

This. This smells like happy memories of damp days on Welsh beaches, wholesome and tinged with salt and the smell of rain-soaked pebbles underfoot. Beautiful, soft, utterly non-sharp lavender giving a sense of clean-ness, with a soft, sea-side rainy warmth coming through.
