    Eldritch Dark

In the bottle: Leather mixed with something … sweet, sticky, sexy. Applied, wet: letting this sit for about a week before testing was definitely the right decision. This is a softer, warmer leather than what's in Haute Macabre; where HM is more clean, fresh, brand-new, cold leather, ED is worn in, gentler, soothing, and comfortable. Application was to both wrists and my neck, and as it dries down, I get that warm, sexy leather smell. A direct sniff of the wrist gives me something sweeter; dark, but sweeter, and almost astringent. Dry: Ah, there's the rose: that hint of baby powder hiding underneath all the leather. It … tarnishes it, somehow. I'm going to have to wait and see how this one plays out over time, and how this ages. Rose doesn't play nice with me, which is unfortunate, as it leaves out a LOT of scents. We'll see. The leather & red musk do a better job keeping the rose in check for longer than the red musk & rose knock-out fight in 'Spellbound,' but .... Damn it Rose, why do you have to ruin everything for me???

    Grog

In the imp: spicy mead! Golden honey. Not so much of the rum, but mmmmmmm. Applied: rich, dreamy butterscotch. Drydown: Ugh … there's the alcohol; it sours, and quickly. This is ... ugh. No, not so much for me.

    Slaugh

In the imp: I get ... mint? It's cool, almost shockingly so. Applied: Holy sweet floral, Batman! Um ... yeah, not so much so. Dry Down: Ah, there's the sassafras, giving me ... root beer. I don't want to smell like root beer. I'm the oddball who doesn't even like root beer.. Yeah, not keeping this imp.

    Peach I

In the imp, this is divine. The red musk comes out, keeping the sweetness of the peach & honey at bay. Applied, well ... so much for the red musk keeping the sweetness at bay - this turns just over the edge, becoming cloyingly sweet. Later on, though ... OMG this is fabulous on my sweater! I usually apply right before leaving for work, and the scent rubs off on my sweater, and ... oh divine. It's almost waxy, reminding me of candles. Final verdict: I'd love this as a linen spray!

    Siberian Musk

I was lucky enough to receive an imp of this from my Switch Witch. I normally do really well with the darker, deeper musks (with red musk being a clear winner for me), so I had high hopes for this. I was not disappointed. In the imp: it's love at first sniff. I get the deep, the brown, the warm, and almost fuzzy that people are mentioning. I get the comparison to Snake Oil. This is simply lovely. Applied, wet: a little strong, but still divine. Drydown: Oh there we go ... softer now, with almost a vanilla undertone (no sugar, though). The similarity to Snake Oil fades, and I'm left with ... I don't even know how to describe it, other than to say I must buy a bottle. This is one of the few oils I've worn 2 consecutive days. I mean, I have so many imps to try, but this works so well on me. Not quite as sharp as red musk, but still sensual.

    Geek

In the imp: loved this at first sniff. The leather, the cinnamon, the patchouli - all plusses in my book! Applied: Hrm ... not so sure about this now. It borders on slightly masculine, then turns somewhat ... perfumey. I don't want a perfume to smell like perfume, I want to be unique. Drydown: everything else seems to fade and the leather mixes better with the cinnamon; I get almost a vanilla scent, with a hint of citrus, that threatens to turn powdery, but never quite does. I do love how this works. The final verdict: the drydown/fade is my favourite part of this - however, it's almost a weaker Antikythera Mechanism on me. I A.M. and given that it's more easily available, that's probably a good thing

    Floral Haters Gonna Hate

If ultraviolet works on you, you *might* be able to swing Arkham. I amp violet like crazy (to the point of migraines), and everyone else says it smelled divine on me, but I couldn't stand it on me. Loved it in the imp, but now I can't smell it without smelling the violet. You might also think about blending/layering scents. "The Girl" is very floral, soft, and very soft on me - too many "white" notes in it, that don't normally work on me, but mixed with the B.B3 Prototype (which is lots of red musk, which *does* work on me), it's simply divine.

    Floral Haters Gonna Hate

As someone who can't do either carnation or rose, I can sympathize. I've at least discovered I can do some orchids, some iris, honeysuckle, and orange blossom. Nothing too over-flowery. Going through my list of "things I love, have bottles of, etc" I find .... Antikythera Mechanism, The -- black vanilla, oak, teakwood, tobacco Asp Viper -- Snake Oil + almond, mandarin, myrrh Bengal -- skin musk with honey, peppers, clove, cinnamon, and ginger (smells like spiced mead, and I this scent, but the cinnamon burns within seconds on me) Hollywood Babylon -- Egyptian amber, heliotrope, strawberry, vanilla, red musk, black cherry Le Lèthè -- red musk, golden skin musk, labdanum, golden amber, nutmeg, tobacco absolute, black orchid, hemlock accord Mania -- pale strawberry leaf, red musk, white grapefruit, white musk Saw-Scaled Viper -- Snake Oil + cinnamon, cassia, and red ginger. The cinnamon in this is STRONG Scherezade -- saffron, middle eastern spices, red musk Sunbird -- no scent notes listed, but it's delicious, dry, and not flowery at all.

    Australian Copperhead (2006)

In the bottle: soft. First whiff I get spices. Second whiff I get ... bubblegum? Not quite as sweet as Jailbait, but still very sweet. Since this is also Snake Oil, I go for it. Applied: Woah, Nelly with the sweet! Wowza sweet. Drydown: It seems to fade fast, and I get no hint of Snake Oil out of this. Every so often I'll get a whiff of sweet, a whiff of floral, a whiff of spicy. Every so often, I'm reminded of my grandmother. I love my grandmother, but I don't want to smell like her. 3 hours later: I get a little creamy vanilla, but it's very faint. Alas, not one I'll be keeping. The sweet was far too much for me.

    Pain

I wanted to wear something this morning, so I opened my "let's try me" imp box, reached in, and grabbed this imp. Appropriate, given the week I've had. In the imp: something sharp, almost minty. I'd originally sniffed, put it back, kept grabbing other things, and then coming back to this. Wet, applied: mint with a bit of ... metallic oil? lubricating oil? It's sharp, different, but surprisingly pleasant. Drydown: An hour later, it's gone. I'm a slatherer, not a dabber, so for this to have faded as fast as it has, I won't be keeping it.

    Spellbound

This was an imp I found in my imp box that I didn't even know I owned! Of course, that means I didn't have the scent notes on this before sniffing & trying it out. In the imp: Oh, delicious red musk, with a tinge of something else! Oh, how I love thee, red musk ... and it's a mutual love. Yes, I think we will be madly in love, Spellbound and I ... Wet, applied: Oh. Rose. My arch-nemesis. Oh, this is not good. I amp red musk, but I also amp rose like there's no tomorrow. It's a kung-fu-style mash up, with Rose and Red Musk battling it out for supremacy, with me as the prize. The amber is no where in sight, likely cowering in a corner like ... well ... a coward. She offers up no help to either duelist. I pray Red Musk wins, but if I were a betting woman, I'd be putting money on Rose. Dry Down: And Rose reigns supreme Washing this off ASAP, because 1) I'm getting the knock-out-punch headache thanks to Rose, and 2) it's starting to turn to rancid baby powder. Oh, how I wanted Red Musk to win! Swap/Frimp/Sell pile for Spellbound. That'll teach me for follwing my nose, and not reading the scent notes first
  16. mermaidsdream

    Callidora

Oh, Callidora - how I longed to love thee! In the bottle: a mixture of different things, all very subtle. Nothing in particular leaps out at me. Applied, wet: The oil is thick, resiny and a little sticky. At first, I didn't get much of anything. After a brief moment, I started getting soemthing woodsy I couldn't put my fingers on, but it's very faint. Drying down: I keep getting whiffs of ... what the heck did I step i..oh, wait. That's me A couple hours later: powdery citrus, with a little pine, and it's starting to turn into a cross between baby powder and soap on me. I suspect it's the Blood Musk - everything else *should* work on me: the cocoa, the red patch, the myrrh. I don't know if maybe I got an off bottle, or it's my body chemistry (I suspect the later), but alas ... Callidora is not the vamp for me Editing a few more hours later: Okay, so she's warmed up to me a little bit - she threatened to turn straight baby powder, but that wonderful red patchouli came out and vamped her up a little, so now she's this delicious, powdery cream. It smells vaguely familiar - like a scent from my childhood, lingering on my memory's periphery. I still don't know if she's a keeper, but she's worth a second shot at a later time.
  17. mermaidsdream

    Pursue Rabbit

At first sniff, it was divine; a mix of things I love: vanilla, sandalwood, tobacco, orange blossom. And then I tried it on. Wet: There is no "blossom" here - it's straight up orange, strong & astringent. My initial reaction was that this is far too masculine for me, and turned itself into something that reminded me much of cheap men's perfume. Sadly, I think it's the Opium Tar, and all the whites. Drydown: powdery, with a hint of citrus. Good staying power (I can still smell it on one wrist, even after showering), decent throw, but ... not for me. The initial astringent quality and the drydown just ... no.
  18. mermaidsdream

    Orange Blossom and Neroli Recs

Vixen! I Vixen. Seriously, I don't know why I don't own a bottle (or 4) of this! And it ages ridiculously well. While neither have Neroli, both 'Changing the Shadows' and 'A Wonderful Light' have orange that I adore; Changing the Shadows has carnation, which usually goes straight to baby powder on me, but strangely works in this one.
  19. mermaidsdream

    Saw-Scaled Viper

When I put this on, I *immediately* picked up the ginger note. The cinnamon note comes out very soon after, overwhelming everything else. I love how this smells, warm and cozy, and ... oh oh no nonononono There's that burn, that itch & nasty burn I get with some of the lab's cinnamon/cassia notes. It starts where I applied it on my throat within minutes of application, and moves on to my wrists quickly after. Damn it, I really wanted to keep this one, but the physical reaction is enough to have me add it to the "sell" pile :(

Sure! What craft project do you currently have on your docket or that you want to start? And that craft goodies would be welcome? I am so NOT a crafty person (which is why it confuses the heck out of me as to why I get stuck with all the crafty projects at work). I don't need any crafty supplies. Now, if you're talking "home improvement" that's another story ... and significantly more expensive If you could have one rare bpal which one would you choose? Oooh ... good question. I really don't know. A full bottle of Mme Moriarty? Banshee Beat? I'm sure there's something else I just don't know about yet Are you kinky? Not so much these days Do you enjoy scented candles? Typically no lavender, overly-floral or coconut, and we're good. Thoughts about South Africa? Have you been here, would you like to go? Would you like to receive anything South African? I have not been there, but would love to go; I'd be thrilled to receive anything. Do you like Sockdreams? If so, what styles would you prefer: I do like Sockdreams. I've only received one pair of knee socks so far (because I always forget about them), but I love fun socks! Do you need hair accessories? If so, what kind or color? None needed. Please dont hedge on this one...some of us are serious crafters and will be making most of what we send! Nothing with nuts, unless it's white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. Not really sure on the crafty-type items! Witchee dear, do you like video games? Are there any you want to play? Do you have a large library? I do like the Assassin's Creed series - I have 1 & 3 and a PS3. My library consists of 1 more game: Katamari Forever I do occasionally play Torchlight 2 on my Macbook Pro (via a Windows partition). Do you have something you do, without fail, as a personal daily habit/ritual? Unless you want to count "get up, shower, go to work, go home, crash into bed" as a daily habit/ritual, then no Do you wear nailpolish? What colors do you tend to go for? What are your favorite brands? Are you open to trying indie brands? Not for me. Name three BPAL scents you have tried, but are dying to get more of Hrm .... The August 2010 13, No 93 Engine, Rumpelstilzchen Do you still write real letters on nice stationary to people you like/love? Not any more. I did when I was in a LDR, but that crashed & burned in the firey flames of hell, so .... oh, and my handwriting is atrocious. Seriously, it's 100x easier if I type something up. Now, receiving handwritten letters is another story .... Have you ever tried anything from Paintbox Soapworks? Which products or scents would you prefer? I Paintbox Soapworks! I actually have a bunch of their stuff in my wishlist on Amazon (sorted into the "Etsy" Wishlist), but for quick reference: Big in Japan, Gingermilk, Lady Linden, Sweet Cheeks, Nihilist, Clean Slate ... I tend to go for the soaps more then the lotions or sorbettos Do you like/have space to garden? If so, what do you grow? I wish. I miss growing things, but I'm on the third floor of a condo with no patio, and a cat who eats everything. Do you like sample sized things? Think lipgloss, mascara, bodylotion, scrubs, mini candles, and so forth. I'm good with sample sizes: Scrubs, mini candles, soaps ... no lip gloss, mascara or lotions for me (mostly cus I don't wear make up and lotions are hit & miss as to whether or not my skin will react). Have you tried Fortune Cookie Soap? What products or scents would you like? Never tried them, or heard of them, so I have no idea what they have to offer! Do you use solid soaps at all? If so, what kind do or don't you like? I actually prefer solid soaps. I love Paintbox Soapworks glycerine soaps, and A Wild Soap Bar (sea scrub, pine tar neem, and black willow bark) Have you ever tried Cocoa Pink? If you are curious about it, what looks interesting to you? Never heard of them. Do you like Lush? If so, what is your favorite product that is currently available, also, what is a product that you love but has been discontinued? I'd love to try more of their bath bombs. I was given one as a gift years ago (and I don't remember what it was), but I loved it. Oh, anyone a fan of Shiro Cosmetics? Any particular products? Eye shadow pigments in general? I've never heard of them, but I don't wear make up. Are there any companies, products, or items you boycott? Chick-Fil-A. There are more I'd love to avoid/boycott, but I'm far too poor :\ As I am in Japan, what sort of things would you like from there? Anything? I Japan. I was very sad when my grandmother passed and didn't leave a single Kabuki doll to me (I loved those dolls when I was a kid - even if they just stayed in their glass cases). Since FB and the FB Gusp group (and the BPAL Sorority which is quiet) have become gathering places...what are some of your favorite Facebook pages you like? I'll have to get back to you on that one. Do you read literature/culture blogs or websites of any kind? I'm thinking about anything that would help a putative witch to get a sense of what your current tastes in books, movies, games, genres, approaches to culture and literature and so forth are. Hrm ... other than here, I don't really read blogs. I follow Neil Gaiman on Twitter & Tumblr, along with a bunch of other people it would take far too long to list How do you feel about traditional picnics (namely the intimate table for two variety)? Old-fashioned basket or something more utilitarian (cooler/insulated bag)? I don't picnic If you were put in a room with 100 random other people the same age and sex as you, from your country, in what way do you think you would be different from the average? I'd be the person cowering in a corner with her hands over her ears, trying her best not to scream. Welcome to my social anxiety, folks. I don't do crowds, and I'd have a really hard time getting to know anyone. Haus of Gloi did a Reverie update! Do any of them interest you? (Or anything else up currently?) One.Perfume.Addiction.At.A.Time. My checkbook can't handle more! Witchee, do you cook? Do you do all the cooking? Is it a chore or a pleasure? I bake for pleasure, but I live alone and meals for 1 are a huge pain. Which reading level do you prefer to read in YA or Adult? Or even both? Nothing overly simplistic, or overly complicated. I really don't know how to describe it better than that. What colors/style is your kitchen decor? And do you entertain in your home? Right now, light blue & white - but I plan on re-doing the kitchen at some point (when I can afford it), so that'll be changing. I typically don't do any entertaining, though. The condo is too small. Are your ears pierced? Yup! Double-pierced, at that. I typically only wear earrings in the bottom holes, though. Do you like stuffies/stuffed animals/art doll type thingies? If so, any particular type you'd love to get? I only have a few stuffed animals. I really don't have any place to put them If you knew you were going to live comfortably for say 800 years, what profession, calling or project might you pursue with some of your extra years, which you imagine you may not do in the life that you have? Is there any thing - an object, a donation on your behalf, some research done for you, whatever - that your witch could do about this that you would like? And if you can't think of a present, would you rather she/he (I!) didn't either and confined themselves to things you are already involved in? I'm not entirely sure how to answer this one. I'd love to be able to just hop on a plane, wander around the globe and take pictures. Would you be interested in someone writing out for you a favourite recipe, or finding or devising one which they think you'd like? If so, please provide your favourite ingredients, info on how you like to cook/store and use food, and any intolerances - unless all of these are in your questionnaire, or you don't like the idea. (I'm not saying I'd definitely do this, unless someone is keen, and it wouldn't be the only gift). I guess for other witches this might include something like a knitting pattern - not my thing but would you like that? Or indeed would you like a picture created for you (if so what kind) or a story written? Uhhhhhhh ..... Switch Witch is, of course, all about you.....but if your Witch was so inclined, are there wee little ones in your home that will get jealous and are just too young to understand why you won't share the love, who maybe need a touch of Witchee love all their own, to distract them while you hide all your lovelies?!? Just me & my cat Do you like bags? If so, what type (rucksack, clutch, shopping bag) colour and would you like/need a new one? I keep changing my mind on this one! Bags are good, and Austin recently passed a plastic bag ban, so I'm often looking for good shopping bags that actually hold groceries, and aren't plastered with corporate logos (and allow me to pimp Blue Avocado, my favourite of the shopping bags) What's your favourite comfort food(snack or candy etc) and/or drink? Good pita chips & good classic Coke Would you like anything from an European country? Any particular food or goodies, magazines, books, whatever would be available to your witch in his/her country. Nothing in particular, but I would love something from a foreign country! What fandoms do you belong to? I wouldn't say I "belong" to a fandom, but I do like Game of Thrones, Sherlock, Firefly, and Doctor Who What cheers you up? Receiving goodies in the mail Who or where would you most want to haunt? Who would you least want to be haunted by? What question do you hate to answer? What is the best compliment you have/could receive? Do you like tarot cards, pendulums and rune stones etc? If so, what type? I love the artistry on Tarot cards. I've been wanting to pick up a set and learn how to use them. I'm not sure I have the knack for it anymore, though. Witchee, I know that SW isn't about what you get... but could you name one thing you would be heartbroken not to get and one thing you would be a-ok if it didn't make it in your box? (i.e. do you REALLY want perfume oil of some sort, or would you be totally heartbroken if there was no Lush in your box, etc) I don't know that I would be heartbroken or disappointed, but I'd love to get some BPAL in there. Honestly, just getting surprises & goodies in the mail is a blast! Is there anything small you try to collect from everywhere you visit? Magnets! Typically, one shaped like the states I've visited. That said, I'm missing a bunch for Canada Would you like something from Empire Edibles? Oh lord yes. It all looks so good. What are the three books you most want to read right now, and which you don't already have? They're on my Goodreads profile. Is there a literary character you identify with? Even if it's not spot-on, just someone you found yourself having that "I identify with this" feeling? do you have any problems with swearing or particularly off-color humor? Would you like to receive subversive crochet/cross stitch/ etc., or would this not get much love in your household? No problem with it! What would you like from the most recent BPAL update? What are you planning on buying for yourself and what would you like to try? Ooh lordy! Let's see: Decants: Hungry Ghost Moon (although I'm waffling on whether or not to get a bottle of this), Aurelia, Desmonia, and maybe a sniffie of Epibulia. Bottles: Calocyclas & Stentor. I'm not sure which ones I'll end up buying; it just depends on finances (stupid student loans). At least I look to be safer from this update than others. Opinions on table top games, from cards and board games, to dice and rpgs. What do you like? What don't you like? Favorites? Any classics you like? Do you collect any? I table top games! I have every Dominion expansion (and the base game), 2 different versions of Fluxx (base game + Monty Python version), some of the older Cheap Ass games (and downloads of the others I need to print off)! I'm constantly looking for decent 2-player games, since it's typically my daughter & myself (and trying to get her to play *anything* is like pulling teeth). What style is your sense of humour? I'm not sure how to classify it. I know I have a sense of humor, which can sometimes be very witty, sometimes be very dry, sometimes be very goofy. It's just very ... me. I do like Monty Python, Bill Mahr, and George Carlin ... not a huge fan of things like Road Trip, Ace Ventura (I actually prefer a lot of Jim Carey's more serious stuff to his slapstick comedy), the Hangover, etc ... I find stupid humor just that - stupid. Is there anything from Australia you would like? eg: snacks (yes, you can ask for Tim Tams!), books, magazines, memorabilia? Yes, please? I don't even know what to ask for! Tim Tams? I don't know what those are .... *shameful look* Gift cards/vouchers - yay or nay? If you like them - which stores would you like one for? Gift cards are fantastic! Starbucks, iTunes, Home Depot are big on my list. Amazon & Etsy also work. Put your mp3 player/online music/itunes/etc on random and list the next 10 songs here: I have a feeling I will struggle with keeping my identity secret from my witchee. If you happen to find out who yours is, how much would it bother you? It won't bother me too much, but there's something to be said for surprises! Is there someone on the forums (within SW or not) who knows you really well and might be able to help with stalking? Hrm ... t3andcrumpets? Maybe Beckie (she was my Warmer in the recent "Heart's Gift Swap" Do you use waxmelts or tarts? If so, which ones do you prefer? I have more tarts than I can use at the moment. Please no more! Do you enjoy drinking hot chocolate, and would you like stuff to make it with, or to add to it? I do, but I can't even fathom it right now, living in Texas. Our winters don't get that cold, and I tend to go more for a cup of hot tea when that happens, than a cup of hot cocoa. Have you ever tried Spoonfudge? Would you enjoy it if your Witch would send you some? Which of the flavors would you like? What's a "Spoonfudge"? What's your opinion on Moonalisa? Any favorites or products you'd like to try? I'm not sure I can afford another company in there! Are there any BPALs that you loved the idea of, the imagery - whether artwork or description - but which didn't work out for you? Is there a Quote that resonates with you, or that you particularly like a lot. Would this be something you would like artwork made of for your walls or a shirt/bag/scarf? Also, STARBUCKS, Yay or Nay? Anything you particularly like? YAY! FRAPPACCINO'S ALL THE WAY, BABY! Er ... was that too much? Ninjas or Pirates? Ninjas! Werewolves or Vampires? Vampires, so long as they don't sparkle! Zombie or Cthulhu? Cthulhu Do you want to receive one big package or a bunch of small ones? Digital stuff all at the end when the box should arrive or as we go? That's a tough choice. I love getting surprises in the mail, and random surprises as we go along are always nice, but there's also something to be said for getting one big package towards the end. Maybe digital stuff as we go, and one big box at the end? Do whatever works best for you, dear Witch Do you welcome knitted items? If so, what would you like most? (amigurumi, washcloth, socks, shawl, shawlette, scarf, wrist warmers, hat, etc.) Do you have any favorite fibers? How about any fiber allergies? Favorite color for knitted items? Sure! Scarves are always welcome (I'm an addict, I admit). Not really sure on favourite fibres, but I don't think I have any fibre allergies. Colours would include dark blue, dark red, dark green (sensing a theme here?) Do you have any symbols or totems that are meaningful to you? The Phoenix, in it's various incarnations (my tattoo is the Egyptian Bennu, which was their take on the original phoenix). It's a good reminder that no matter how many times in my life I've burned to the ground, I always rise up stronger, better than I was before. When you are having a really rough day, what do you like to do/have to make it a little brighter? Sadly, I'm not really sure how to answer this one. Not yet, at least. Would you like if your witch sent a regional soda? If so, what type (Root beer, creme soda, cola, citrus-flavored, chocolate-flavored, etc...)? I'm a big fan of Fever Tree Ginger Beer What are the three BPALs you would most like to receive - one GC, one not-hard to find LE, and one HTF LE from your dreams? I'd have to go look. I'm not sure what my HG would be ... If you knit/crochet, what sizes of needles do you need? WEAPONS OF DOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMM! STABBYSTABBYSTABBY. Er ... I mean ... Uh .... What styles of artwork do you like? If you cook, would you be interested in-hand made spice mixes/rubs? Not so much, mostly because I make my own Would you like mexican vanilla or silver rings/necklaces? Mexican vanilla? Sure. Silver? ALL THE SILVER ARE BELONG TO MEEEEEEEEEE! Is there anything from the Oddment Emporium you would like? What is your favorite color? Dark colours -- blues, greens, reds, black What is your favorite season? The only seasons we have in Austin are "oak, mold, ragweed, and cedar" ... none of them are favorites. If you could live anywhere in the world and money was no object, where would it be? I'd have to visit more places before I could make that determination. Do you have any long trips coming up? If so, could you use things to occupy yourself? I have a trip coming up from 7/11 - 7/14; while that may not seem like a "long trip," it's me flying to NY to visit my mother. My 2-week roadtrip last year will seem like an overnight visit, by comparison. I'm going to Jungle Jim's next week (it's basically a massive international food gasm in Ohio, look it up); would anything interest you? Name three things that you could use, but might not necessarily think to get for yourself? Would any witchee be interested in this comic? or any of her three comics? Oooh ... those look fabulous. And I have the Comixology app on my iPad, so you could even do e-Comics. Does anything from the TP Etsy update interest you? I haven't even looked, but I'm sure there's something I could use. I just found out Oreo is launching ones with watermelon flavor in the USA only. Is it something you would enjoy? I think I'll pass on this one. What do you love about summer (even if it’s your least-favorite season)? Daylight Are there any books that just came out (like within the last two months) or are about to come out during this round that you're really looking forward to? The latest Neil Gaiman book! Do you have a quote that's not more than, say, a dozen words long that you would like in a cross-stitch? Not so much so Dear Witchee: If you don't consider yourself in a "fandom" (and I get that ... I don't really go overboard on my liking of any TV show/Movie/etc), are there any TV shows or Movies that you really like and/or watch regularly or any actors/actresses you wouldn't leave standing in the rain (unless you like looking at them sopping wet, in which case ... well, nevermind)? I do like a lot of shows (well, fewer than I used to): Castle, Game of Thrones, CSI, Criminal Minds (Shemar Moore ... mmmmm ), Doctor Who, Sherlock (I'm a fan of Cumberbatch as an individual, but I've never understood the appeal of his looks; to me, the man looks like a lizard). I adore Patrick Stewart, Kevin Spacey and Gary Oldman (3 of Hollywood's most under-rated actors). But I wouldn't fangirl over any of them (well, maybe Shemar, but even then). So, dear witchee, would you like some Tw*twaffle soap or scent or lotion? Soap! No lotion Has anyone asked about tattoos? Do you love them? Hate them? Have any? Want any? Love them, have 1, will eventually get another (but won't until I know exactly what I want to get) TAL update on etsy. Is there anything you want/need? Possibly, but I don't know what. I live near the Brown and Haley outlet - makers of Almond Roca and Mountain Bars - would you want anything from the outlet? For nut-haters, they have nutless Roca (but not nut-free, for the allergic, sorry!) For the no-sugar folks they have sugar-free as well. No thanks. I also have an Oberto jerky outlet local to me - any wants there? I'm going to pass on the jerky - I've never been a fan. How do you feel about home-canned goods? Pickles? Ketchup? Mustard? Jam? Marmalade? I'm not sure I'd go through it, to be honest. It's just me and I seldom cook at home anymore. Do you like BPTP clothing? What size do you wear of: I do, but I don't own any! I'm not sure what my sizes would be Baby-doll T's -- I don't buy baby-doll T's. I'm not shaped right for them. Regular T's -- XL or XXL yoga pants -- hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Socks might be better. Seriously. Also, what is your favorite lunacy (or non-lunacy) T-shirt that you don't already own? Or other clothes from BPTP? I don't own any! I kinda dig: A Picnic in Arkham, Black Moon Rising, Molly Crabapple, & Resurrection. Other items: Any of the stockings would work. What else do you love from the Trading Post site, and need to have? A Scent Locket (Carnivale Diabolique, Clockwork, Phoenix), Bar Soaps Is there a particular movie genre that you like (Fantasy? Drama? Romantic Comedy? Musicals? TV-Series, etc), and what format would you prefer: DVD, Blu-Ray, or something in the cloud (like Amazon, iTunes, Flixster, etc)? Sci-Fi & Fantasy, and TV-Series. I still prefer physical media over Cloud-based items. Following up on the Adagio question from earlier, what are you top five wishes, for teas and blends? I'd love to try some of the Game of Thrones series blends, and the TARDIS blend from Cara McGee's series (although I'd love just the tin, too! ) Do you have anything that you do ritually, every summer? Nope What are your top five wishes from ThinkGeek? Scents from the RPG series? Anything Doctor Who or Game of Thrones related. I'm not sure I could narrow it down to 5 items! Seen anything lately that makes you go OH HOLY FUCK THAT'S AWESOME!! ? Do you like audiobooks? If so, do you have/would you like to try Audible? (I'm an addict, myself.) Not so much. I prefer to actually read my books. Chocolate: Love? Hate? Allergic? If love, what are your faves? Dark chocolate. Dark chocolate with sea salt & caramel. No Nestle or Hershey, though. Give me Dove, Ghiradelli, or better. Gourmet popcorn, yes/no? What do you like: glazed, savory, candied? Nuts or not? Any flavors you wouldn't like (like Bacon CHeeseburger, Pizza, Watermelon, Root Beer Float, Hot Chili Dark Chocolate)? Or if any of those sounded interesting, how weird is weird enough? Yes! Glazed, Candied, nuts would need to be almonds or cashews. No overly weird flavors. I had some recently that had dark chocolate, caramel & cashews in it and it was FANTASTIC. would you like some detangling and very shiny hair gloss made by me? This is a 'cone rich blend, not the least bit natural. I'm not a huge hair-product person. I kid you not, one bottle of the BPTP hair gloss is going to last me *forever* I know the question about personal style was included in the questionnaire, but is there anything that could give your witch a better sense of your style/fashion or decoration preferences? Like tumblrs, pictures you like, websites, stores (or brands) you like or would like to be able to shop at and so forth? I wish I could be more helpful, but I'm ridiculously low-maintenance, and my wardrobe is pretty sparse. All appropriate Pinterest, Tumblr, etc links are on the spreadsheet (and somewhere answered in this blog), though. I saw you have a cat - would it be okay for me to add something for them in a package? Do they like mousies, crunch/soft treats or 'nip? Aww ... she'd love it. She goes nuts for catnip toys, and the Greenies crunchy treats. Do you like earrings? Any particular style appeal to you? (hoops, chandelier style, pretty beads etc.) Wires over posts, silver preferably (my ears eat yellow gold). I absolutely adore Wyrding Studios and have a few other shops listed in my Etsy favourites. Do you like/wear makeup? If so what brands/colors/types? No make up for me. Is there anything special I could get you from New York City? I've never been to NYC, so I wouldn't even know what to ask for. Do you want/need/like/collect journals? If so, do you prefer lined or unlined? I don't need any more journals - I have more than I can use right now How do you feel about glitter? does loose glitter make your skin crawl or would you bathe in it? No glitter! No glitter! No glitter!! Sparkly things are okay, but no no no on the loose glitter! I know Canadian chips can be different than others, how does "dill pickle" or "ketchup" sound? I do occasionally try new things, but even those ... I think I'm not that brave. If you were getting a custom Haus of Gloi blend, what four notes would you choose? Summer notes listed here and you can click through to the whole list from there. http://www.hausofglo...er-single-notes I think I'd be lousy at picking 4 notes to go together. Do you like Kickstarter? Are there any projects up that you really like? I do like Kickstarter, but haven't been through the recent listing to see what's up. If you have an Etsy wishlist, what are your top 5 favorite things on there? The price is unimportant, not because I'm rich, but because I'd like some inspiration. Festival this week -- includes an "encampment" and an art faire. any interest in trinkety things from the encampment or cards/prints from local artists Sure! Why not? Every package has to have something blue in it. Blue can also be used to describe more risque humor...how would you rate your general sense of humor? Are you strictly PG-13, R-rated, NC-17? Any & all of that is fine NC-17 is good, I guess. Do you like puzzles? What kind? Jigsaw, word, etc? I love jigsaw & logic puzzles. I don't really have the space for them these days, though. Anything interesting from the new Paintbox Soapworks update for you? Oh lord. I'm not sure there's enough space for this! All soaps (no sorbetto or lotion, please): High in the 70s, Lady Linden, Candy Floss sounds interesting, Orange Crush, Sweet 100s, Moundshroud, The Olive Tree ... What about recycled sari silk yarn, witches and witchees? I wouldn't do anything with it, sorry Sooo, the Blooddrop update (Aviary and Summer Simplicities). Anything you'd like from there? Not at this time. If I wanted to include something for your fluffball, what would be good, and what should I stay away from? She'd love it! I think she'd be good with anything. Would homemade treats be something you'd like for your dog/cat? Possibly - I'm not sure what she'd munch on, though. If you get a long weekend this weekend... what are you doing with it? Staying in? Going out? Family? Friends? If you don't get a long weekend, are you OK with that, or a little sad? (If you are Canadian, apply this to last weekend). I wish I could have had a long weekend, but it is what it is. If I didn't work in a job that required me to take vacation, I probably would never take one.

I smelt this today, can anyone recommend a blend?

I have to agree - I the tobacco in The Antikythera Mechanism (the first tobacco scent I tried, and completely fell in love with it), but both Illustrated Woman & Tobacco Honey were huge fails on me (as was Brisingamin). French Tobacco, however, works wonderfully but I have yet to layer it with anything (too many other blends to try ).

    Sumatran Red Patchouli

I have allergy issues with some of the patchouli blends, which causes them to break my heart (Implacable Beautiful Tyrant, I'm looking at you!), but I took a chance and ordered a bottle of this. It came a few days ago, and I've been letting it sit to settle a bit before trying. In the bottle: I'm so glad I bought a bottle of this. It's nothing like I expected. Instead of "patchouli" I get wet, rich wood. It's almost like being in a forest right after the rain - it's a fresh, woodsy scent, rich and thick. I could easily just sniff the bottle all day. Applied: I used a clean toothpick. I rolled the bottle (force of habit), dipped my toothpick in and applied to my left wrist - and was again surprised. The oil is dark, rich, and *thick*; one dip was more than enough oil to apply to both wrists and my neck. On the skin, I still get that same woodsy smell I'm loving. It's a relaxing scent. Dry down: 15-minutes later, I'm standing in my local Starbucks, and am starting to notice something that smells vaguely of rose-scented soap. After I get back to my car, I realize that it's me The patchouli is starting to morph, but the woodsy scent is still fighting for dominance. It will be interesting to see how this lasts throughout the day, and whether or not the woodsy can prevail. If it does, I may need to get a second bottle quick before it comes down.

Check out Etsy, and the sales sections on the Forums - I've seen a few bottles & decants around here & there, in my own searching for specific scents. Also, I have the same issue: it's always fun when the precious rubs off on your fingers, smells divine, but you have no idea what order the imps were layered in
