I'd like some recommendations for myself and my partner. I like rose, sandalwood, myrrh and patchouli. I don't like gardenia, lilac, honeysuckle, jasmine because their sweetness turns bitter and acrid on my skin, smelling like either sweat or urine! I don't like citrus scents. I'm not opposed to cedar or any wood that is not pine. Pine doesn't like me and ends up smelling like antiseptic. I also like the smell of Gonesh's Incense of Ancient Times: Oils and Spices. My room mate likes the woodsy smells - if there was a bottle of sierra cedar campfire smoke she'd wear it all the time! She also likes frankincense and myrrh, ylang ylang and yarrow. I've tried using the search function, but I have too many negatives that seem to be in most of the results when I search for scents containing rose, sandalwood, myrrh and patchouli. Viola looked good, but the lilac and Cala Lily scared me off. Thanatos sounds like the winner here, for me, anyway. My room mate's preferred scents have more combinations, but I'd like some ideas with what you've all experienced. Thank you for taking time to help me with this!

Red Rose 2012 In the vial: smelled wet and green, like spring rain on flower garden greenery (that hasn't bloomed yet), but with a chemical overtone. Wet on my skin: powerful chemical overtone, the wet and green scent was fainter, but still the only other thing I could detect. After 10 minutes, I could detect the rose, but it was so weak that the wet and green smell overpowered it. After half an hour, everything faded to a faintly floral smell - I couldn't tell it that had rose in it any more. I don't think this one is for me. I'm looking for something with a more powerful Rose smell.

In the vial: woodsy, spicy, sweet - possibly the rum? Wet: Floral for about 10 minutes. I couldn't detect anything past the flowery smell. It was that kind of perfumy flowery smell in which you can't tell what the flowers are, but they're sweet. Dry: the floral had faded away and changed to a spicy and woodsy smell, with occasional spikes of clove. I actually had to get up and make sure there were no Christmas candles burning, the clove was that strong. After about 20 more minutes - about half an hour after applying it - there was only a mildly spicy smell left.

This smelled very good in the imp. Very sandalwoody and ambery. I liked the smell of this imp more than all the others I received, so I had higher expectations of it. On my wrists, the sandalwood was delightful, with undercurrents of amber. I didn't smell the rose at all. I didn't mind the lack of rose, but I did mind that the scent faded very quickly once it was dry. The sandalwood and amber steadily faded, becoming fainter and fainter, after the first hour. By the end of two hours, it was gone.

I ordered some imps yesterday, and included SIN and RUMPELSTILZCHEN. I picked three of the best-sounding for me and three for my partner. Thank you for your suggestions! I can hardly wait to get them and see how they are on us! Bianca

Thank you for your recommendation and for the link to the GC Staples thread! I'm also amazed and humbled by so many helpful people taking the time to share their BPAL wisdom with me!
