Chaos Theory V: Recursive Self-Similarity v1
savage_rose replied to awesomeoverlord's topic in Limited Editions
CIII - Tokyo Stomps Dorian! Tea and vanilla mint...it almost wants to get plasticky a half hour or so into the drydown, but it's so lovely I just refuse to accept it. I want to get more of these, but 1.) I can't afford 'em and 2.) I don't think I could end up with a nicer scent. -
This smells delicious in the imp...golden, sugared vanilla. It reminds me a bit of Snake Oil. And then on me, it fades a bit, and I'm amping something (is it the orris?). It's sharp and not unpleasant, but it is a bit jarring. This scent is really nice, but not what it could be with my skin chemistry. Sigh.
-
This is a bit salty, and a bit menthol-ish...it works in the imp. And then on the menthol-ish note fades, and it smells kind of powdery. And bit pine-ish. This smells like light bathroom deodorant on me now...sigh .
-
Crouching Marchen, hidden vetiver... Yuck. Vetiver, dead branchy smells, and something a bit salty...I can't tell if it's the blood or the tears. I don't know quite what I'm smelling, but I know I don't like it!
-
It smells like leather and vetiver on some really, sweaty old man with a bad toupee, trying to pick up a woman barely in her twenties. It smells like money, sweaty, old money. Too masculine for me, and not a version of masculinity I find appealing.
-
It has the salt tang of the ocean laced with dragon's blood...and something else that smells like zesty, light citrus. Refreshing and a little spicy. It's pretty unisex, I can see this smelling good on...well, anyone. And I love the name..."That fragrance, it's enchanting. What is it?" "Oh, The Sea Foams Blood."
-
It smells AMAZING wet, like rich, heady wine (blood?) and snow. Really lovely. And then dry...the snow note turns into Ben-Gay or something, and it smells medicinal and pretty much terrible on me . Eventually that fades, but not soon enough.

Normally lily loves my skin (and I love lily!), but the "black" in this scent is a bit bitter at first. It's not vetiver bitter, it's more of a "cologne-type" bitterness. It's off-putting and doesn't seem to pair with the lily well. But well into the dry down, it fades enough that I can smell light lily underneath the darkness. It actually smells pretty good, but not like something I would need a bottle of.

The forum just ate my review post, so I'll just say this is overwhelmingly perfumey on me, but might fare better on your skin if it plays well with the BPAL opium note. I love Slippery Poppy Tincture, but this is nothing like it .
-
Wet it smells like crazy roses...rose, but mottled by something sour. But on, it turns into this bouquet of sweet rose, and ripe, bursting fruit, and a almost-greeness which I'm assuming is the wheat, but it's growing wheat and not baked wheat. This is one of those scents that's lackluster in its original form, but just sparkles with the right skin chemistry.

This is a pale floral blend, and there are a lot of them...but somehow they're not overpowering at all. They merge together beautifully into this effervescent, floral cologne. It smells old-fashioned and sweet, but not too sweet. This is really knocking my socks off!

I need to smell TQ and BoN in again, because it smelled very heavy to me. Metallic, but almost with a "cast iron" tinge to it. Very heavy, very sexy, and masculine, but not necessarily a guy's scent. I loved it on me!
-
A sister scent to Ol' Roswell Cemetery...the same wet, metallic soil scent, but with different florals and that...IS that fruit? Fruity spiced bread, that's what it smells like. Surprisingly complex and I like it, although I can't imagine wearing it often.
-
It smells like generic fabric softener in the imp, and turns to baby powder on my skin. Not me .
-
Honey and wine...the honey is very strong in the imp and on my skin, but then it gives way more to the grapey wine. I think I like it, but it's A LOT sweeter than I was expecting.
-
This is one of the most disgusting blends I've ever smelled. I try to be positive in my reviews, even with scents I don't like. But this one...yikes. In the imp I immediately said, "Ew, got any paint that needs to be removed?" And on, it's actually worse...it smells like a bunch of my Mom's old toys that were put in a window seat for 30 years and left to get all musty, mildew reacting with the plastic. It's so horrible my eyes start watering and my stomach starts doing flips. It's not even the vetiver, at least not vetiver working alone. Yuck.
-
I expected this to be a much more intensely jasmine blend. But I was pleasantly surprised...there's a bit of jasmine present, but it's only a supporting player. Mostly it smells like wildflowers, and pale sunshine and fresh air. Really lovely!
-
In the imp, I can't smell rose at all. It just smells dry and a bit woodsy, like a very dry, light men's cologne with a touch of something alcoholic and on the rocks. On, the rose comes out a bit...very lightly, and it's sweetness is cut by the dryness of the blend...a very manly rose blend! Although this smells more unisex to me...I like it. I'm not getting pine at all.

This smells so green to me, in the bottle and on! Like F5 without the aloe...very green, and sweet with a touch of undefinable florals. And seriously, are there 50 flowers in here? Because you would think this might be so crazy and overbearing because of all of those warring notes, but they're seamlessly blended here. It's just green, lovely, and beautiful! And I love the bottle art, the little eye-pyramid and the flag...a little creepy, a little patriotic. Perfect!
-
In the bottle this scent is sweet but has an odd metallic, astringent tang to it. On, it just turns into this oddly sweet, dry tobacco-herbal scent, but oddly sweet...a wrong sweet, like the scent of unwashed hair, or bread when it's just started to mold. Ewww. It's incredible in the bottle though. Too good not to give it a go as a locket scent!
-
In the bottle, I just smell wet dirt. Dirt with that metallic "wet" scent, like the ground right aftera good, strong summer rain. On, the florals immediately pop out...they smell like bright, blooming hothouse flowers. But instead of taking over the blend, they settle down into the dirt. It's just a perfectly balanced floral-dirt scent...perfect throw, it lasts a long time. I'm normally "can take it or leave it" with dirt notes, but I love this. It's just perfect. And although I've only been to the old Roswell cemeteries in the Fall, I'm going to have to go back in Spring and see if they smell this good! I doubt it .

Yup, Jailbait minus the womanly perfume! Bubblegum, luscious and sweet. Tropical fruit bubblegum, not quite as intense as juicy fruit. It does make me happy when I smell it!
-
Sweet, dainty, but also a little mischievous. And wow, that HAS to be daffodil...it's gorgeous and light in a sunshiny blend. Even the plum is nice! Ooh, I like this a lot!
-
Very sexy, manly, and smokin' hot! Unfortunately on me something goes plasticky at first, and then it dries to sweet and spicy. I like it, but it's better in the imp than on my skin.

This blend has something for everyone, but it doesn't quite work well together on my skin. Something is making my skin feel dry and tight (the cardamom?), and it just smells too sweet and powdery at the same time. It makes my nose tickle a bit. I can imagine this blend being lovely on the right person. But not me.
