this turns into a soft, lovely incense on me -- it puts me in a meditative state of mind, which is wonderful. (2007 version)

in the bottle, this smells like brown sugar, rich and delicious. on me, it continues to smell like brown sugar, but after it dries down some woodsmoke creeps in too. this is a great scent -- my husband and I both love it! I got an imp of this through a decant circle and am going to grab a bottle. (2007 version)

I wasn't sure how I'd like this scent because I'm not familiar with many of the notes, so I got a half-imp from a decant circle. I'm glad I did because this scent does not work for me -- I'm overwhelmed by violets! it does settle down after a little while, but it's still very strongly violet.

when smelling this in the bottle, my friend said "this one's definitely for you." I agreed -- in the vial it's fruity and bright. on me, though, the lotus turns into bubblegum (yet again!), with a boozy background. I guess it's not for me after all!

2006: this is deep, somewhat spicy, maybe a little woody incense on me.

very minty, and for some reason I think I smell a tiny hint of vanilla in the background, and maybe a little bit of bubblegummy lotus. it's crisp and chilly, definitely a winter scent.

this is thick, sweet butterscotch on my skin -- very strong! I can smell some coconut too. this scent is delicious, but I can't wear it -- it makes me hungry and I may gnaw my arm off. not too professional looking. I'm sad that the apple didn't come out on my skin. I have Punkie Night to satisfy my apple scent cravings, though!

this smells like a furry animal - a soft, clean one, warm from sitting in the sun - and grasses.

this smells like a spicy, creamy vanilla on me - I don't see any vanilla notes listed though! very strange. Morocco is gorgeous; I'm going to see how quickly I go through my imp, but I may want a bottle of this in the future.

I wanted to try this imp because I'm enchanted by Norse mythology. (funny how I pick so many imps to try because of their associations and names!) this is all spice on me - no woods that I can smell. I got this imp in a swap and am unsure how old it is. it's slightly herbal as well. overall, this is amazing!

DCCCLXXIV - #874 I got this in a swap - the two CT bottles I've gotten from the lab just didn't smell good on me. I keep trying with the hope of finding a winner! and this one is close. in the bottle it's softly floral with something kind of sharp and citrusy. on my skin, I smell something vaguely like bananas (what is this note? it's come up a few times, always in blends that don't list the components). after about 20 mins or so, the bananas are gone, and I'm left with a soft, gentle floral fragrance. I'm not sure if I want to keep this bottle or try swapping again, but it's pretty nice.

amber seems to be an iffy note for me. sometimes it's gorgeous and sometimes it's powder. unfortunately, Brisingamen turns powdery on me... there's a slight hint of spices too, but overall it's powder. I wanted to like this one so much.

Amber, heliotrope, golden sandalwood, peach blossom and vanilla bean. Tamora greeted me with a huge blast of fruity sweetness when I opened the imp - whoa! I thought this might be too sweet or fruity for me, but I tried it on anyway. after it settled onto my skin, I realized the fruity note was peach. the peaches mellowed out a few minutes later and became lightly spiced and creamy. wow, this is beautiful. edit: after about 20 mins of drydown, a funky note comes out in the background. husband says "that smells like bathroom cleaner." woe! I will have to try this a few more times...

my nose must be crazy; in the imp, and when I first put this on, I smell bananas! after it dries a bit, I can smell some light spices and something mellow. Tushnamatay fades quickly on my skin, but it's a relaxing scent while it lasts.

I'm a big vanilla fan, so this was on my list of scents to try! Mouse smells like vanilla and sweet pea on my skin, almost cotton candy like - it's so sweet. it mellows out very quickly and the scent is so faint that I have to put my nose very close to my wrist to smell anything. it's a sweet, young, girly scent.

I've learned over the past few weeks that tea scents just don't smell good on me. this smells like a lovely cup of tea in the bottle, but on me it smells like smoke, and I have no idea where that note came from. the honey note is also very thick and almost cloying on me. I like the artwork for this scent quite a bit. all the CD art is gorgeous!

in the bottle, this smells extremely fruity - while I like the sweet scents, I was nervous to try this because it almost made my teeth hurt to smell it. on my skin, it smells like bubblegum at first, but then settles into a soft fruit/floral blend. I think I can smell the apple blossom (a note I especially like in Eve). as someone said, this becomes pretty sophisticated as it settles down. edit: Xanthe fades on me so quickly... I think I will pass on this scent, even though it is lovely.

Mme. Moriarty, Misfortune Teller (2006)
nightbird replied to zillah37's topic in Carnaval Diabolique
I think I am in the minority here, but the Misfortune Teller is not for me! it starts out smelling promising, reminding me a teeny bit of Snake Charmer and Snake Oil (must be the spices), but quickly dries down to something that reminds me of tea. while tea is nice, I don't like the way tea smells on me. -
at first this is all bright lemon. after it dries a little, I can smell the lavendar and something else that I can't put my finger on. I was shocked to find that vetiver is in this blend; vetiver and I don't get along well at all. very nice - one of my favorite blends from CD so far!
-
I definitely smell wood in this one - soft and warm. there's just a hint of rose in the background too. this is very light and very pretty.
-
this is citrusy with a some smoke in the background - I recognize the opium smoke from Chrysanthemum Moon. the smoke is a little overpowering for me, but it's a pretty scent overall.
-
in the bottle - cherries! on my skin - more cherries, but with something deep and spicy coming out as well. mmm... very nice. puts me in an autumny mood! after a few minutes I can hardly smell anything, though - very weird.

in the bottle, this smells floral, but I can't name the specific flowers. oddly, I don't smell the jasmine in this blend when I sniff the vial - it makes its appearance once I'm wearing it. and then it turns to soap, as jasmine tends to do on me. there is also something slightly bitter in the background that I can't place. the artwork for this oil is gorgeous - one of my favorites!

when I put this on I thought it smelled like Dorian - and then I read the description again and realized why. Dorian and I don't get along, unfortunately. this smells very much like tea, and while I like tea, the note smells bad on my skin. I think I'm smelling some jasmine as well, and jasmine is another note that doesn't play nicely - it either amps or turns soapy. poor Theo and I are not meant to be.
