Got this as a frimp with my last order too! Thank you labbies! I was thinking about getting this, but wasn't sure about of the red musk - Smut didn't work out too well for me. But I LOVE this! It starts out cocoa-ey - the kind that turns to peanuts on me (don't ask). But that goes away in literally 45 seconds, then it starts turning spicy - must be the sandalwood - but also happy and effervescent - like a soda pop - and kind of fruity. This is sooo goood, but not for what I was expecting/hoping I would like - I love cocoa/vanilla notes most. ADDED March 15: Lovely frimp from the labbies - thank you!!! First whiff - light chocolate, a bit floral and a bit spicy A few minutes later - cola? Dry - cocoa, fruity cherry-ness, and something spicy - reminds me a bit of Smut - must be the red musk. Not my favorite, but definitely yummy!!!

Monster Bait: Bloody Mary is my dream come true! Chunky red fruits indeed! It's cherry, it's strawberry with confectioners sugar. Sweet and juicy and a little creamy. Strawberry cream pie comes to mind. Treat #1 also comes to mind, except that instead of watermelon, it's cherry and strawberry candy - chewy candy, like cherry or strawberry flavored Starbursts. I looooove this. Yum!!!

The scent of tea - BPAL's tea note, BPAL blends like your favorite tea
nannan45 replied to sarada's topic in Recommendations
Christine Daae - Below is a post earlier in this thread: Also, if you have my weird skin chemistry and you can find it, Trick or Treat smells exactly like spiced Chai tea on me. You can also try layering tea scents with pumpkin or pumpkin pie scents since they're spiced with all that nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. -
Frumious Bandersnatch I first tried it on without reading the description so I would have no pre-judgments (I got this as a frimp from the lab - thank you !!!) I'm surprised this works for me now that I have read them because of the carnations. Alice didn't love me, neither did Zarita the Doll Girl, so I assumed it was the carnations. But FB is lovely! It's spicy and fruity, and I distinctly smell the mums. It is sort of light though, or my skin just drinks this one up. But it's a great spicy scent that I'd never have thought would work for me. Mmm!

Dark Delicacies Lovely! This blend is so fruity and floral. It's very warm, sweet and sticky, with a hint of greeness. To me this isn't dark or smokey at all - it's bright and happy, sunny and honey sweet! Somehow I get a hint of Treat #1's watermelon, so it's kind of like Treat #1's more complex, beautiful older sister. It's hard to pick out individual notes as this is so well blended. ETA: The coconut comes out at dry down. Mmm! I'm a foody addict trying to ween myself and maybe add some florals to my palate. I thought DD would be a nice start, but this is turning out somewhat foody to my nose - fruits with warm honey and coconut! Love DD!!

Midway A bombardment of edible carnival indulgences. Funnel cake, caramel apple, cotton candy, salt water taffy and sugar tart. Honestly, reading the description for Midway with its sweet and salty and oily notes kind of scared me. They don’t sound like they’d smell good together at all! But after reading and re-reading (and reading again) the wonderful reviews here, the more I knew I just had to try it. Being a self-proclaimed foody, I just knew I had to at have a bottle for my life to be complete. Snagged one at a Will Call and after a whiff, I think I’d died and gone to heaven! Oh Lord! Oh my! I would never have imagined that this strange combination is so amazing – the diabetes-inducing sweetness of the cotton candy – pink cotton candy with a bit of bitterness that food coloring can have sometimes, a bit of saltiness from the saltwater taffy, the oily butteriness of the funnel cake, and a tiny bit of apple. This truly is a bombardment of carnival treats! From the bottle it was so light I could barely smell it. This worried me a bit until I put it on. On my skin, it warms up beautifully and becomes stronger – in a good way. It’s very soft and well rounded. Love it!!!

Lick It Again Lick It was the scent I was hoping and praying Beth would revisit since I hadn't been enabled soon enough for last year's Yule. I mean, peppermint and sugar? With vanilla maybe? What could be more perfect? So yes, I just about cried tears of joy when this Yule update went live. Beth heard my prayers! Lick It Again in the bottle is pure peppermint - refreshing and cool, don't get much sugar yet. On my wrists - It starts out intensly pepperminty and gets sweeter as it dries down. I'm reminded of the peppermint candy the white ones with red swirls and not of candy canes, but that's probably because I eat those more often. They are pretty much the same thing. As it starts to fade, it becomes creamy. My skin tends to do that - everything fades into vanilla. I'm a peppermint addict, and I always have strong mints and peppermint gum in my purse, so I adore Lick It Again! I'm not disappointed even after all the anticipation and speculation. ETA: Now that it's begun to age a bit, it's sweeter and creamier, the peppermint is a little less intense. I can now smell sugar and vanilla from the bottle. I love this!

Kuang Shi Mmm...lemons...But wait! No lemons in the description? If Kuang Shi were a color - it'd be bright yellow. First on it's very citrusy, mainly lemons. Very sharp and tangy. Will wake you up in the morning. As it dries, it becomes sweeter, and a little softer. Gets a little musky and now I can smell some oranges and mangos. I never get any sandalwood, but that's alright with me. Very nice!

Dorian This is REALLY good. On me I smell sweet lemon tea. It's very soft and pretty. After a while I start to get some creaminess, which later blooms into vanilla. Mmm! After that, the scents seem to rotate. I'll get a whiff of lemon, then vanilla, then sweet sugared tea. Beautiful! This will be on my next order for sure.

Creepy I agree that this reminds me of Sugar Skull. The butterscotch and caramel is deliciously warm, brown and thick. And that's all I get from sniffing the bottle. But when it goes on, the tart apple wafts out. Caramel apples!!! It's so good!!! I think this is a well rounded blend - the tart apple keeps the butterscotch/caramel from being too sweet and the butterscotch/caramel keeps the apple from being too tart (which is the essence of a caramel apple!). Add coconut booze in there to make it interesting, and you've got a little bit of heaven in a bottle! Yum!

The Candy Butcher First whiff from bottle - Roasted peanuts? Roasted salted peanuts? Um. This is weird, very carnaval appropriate, but weird. I was expecting chocolate. Wet on wrist - Still salted roasted peanuts with something creamy. Reminds me of those candy bars with chocolate over roasted peanuts. This is my first chocolate blend ever, so maybe chocolate just doesn't work for me? I'm sad. Very sad. Dry down - Ok, here we go! This is beautiful sweetcream over some soft white florals - must be the 'Chocolate Snow White' everyone is talking about. I don't specifically smell chocolate though. Just something creamy and sweet. Even drier - This is MB Underpants! Peanut chocolate underpants! I smell sandalwood in here for some reason! Even drier - As this fades away, I get creamy chocolate. Finally. Yummy. Overall I actually like this stuff! I believe the nuttiness will gradually change to cream as this ages, because MB Closet started out nutty to me too, then turned creamy. This is a very interesting blend which goes through many stages for me. I will have to experiment on the Candy Butcher more! Will update!

Treat #1 = Yum! I agree that this is Jolly Ranchers candy, watermelon Jolly Ranchers, in a bottle. As it dries, I definitely smell strawberry, and pink lemonade, but the watermelon is always very front and center. And yes, this is diabetes-inducingly sweet, not brown and sticky like Sugar Skull, but clear like rock candy. This scent is so pretty and happy and simple - just they way candy should be. I am in love with Treat #1 and I cannot stop sniffing my wrists. The description is so spot on - it is a glittering mound of crushed hard candy! ETA As this wears off, it becomes pure sugar. Mmm. I can still smell it on my wrist - one shower and 12 hours later!

SKULD Frimps are wonderful indeed! This is one I would never have tried on my own. First on, this is mostly honey, sweet and warm, a little boozy like mead. Lovely. I get a hint of grapes as well, strange. The grapes go away and it's almost pure honey with a hint of something floral which I'm guessing is Ylang Ylang. I don't detect much else, but I love it just the way it is. Sweet honey with a bit of floral. Mmmm. ETA: Strong throw, but not much staying power.

Black Hellebore Got this as a lovely frimp from the lab - so a great big THANK YOU LAB - as I would never have ordered it on my own. This is a very floral and clean green scent that starts out really pretty. But as it dries out, something in it just isn't right. I tried it at different times of the month, but it always ends up giving me a headache. It dries out smelling like toilet paper for some reason. Weird. But a lot of green BPAL scents turn into toilet paper on me. Must be my skin chemistry.

Ace of Cups Another frimp from the lab (THANK YOU!!!)! And this is a beautiful blend in a cherry kind of way. In the bottle and wet on my skin this oil screams CHERRY! ALMOND EXTRACT! and MARASCHINO CHERRIES! Which scared me a bit since I did not like Kabuki. Reminded me too much of my highschool bathroom where the aroma of cherry scented cleaning liquid was enough to knock you out. But the Ace of Cups morphs into this beautiful fruity/floral concoction that reminds me of Mi-Go Brain Cannister. Yeah, it's Mi-Go with cherries. With so many fruits and flowers it's hard to pinpoint any one note except for the cherry, which is thankfully muted enough to blend into the crowd. This is a beautiful well blended oil!

The Hanged Man Gee. This is a hard one. Got this as a frimp (thank you lab!), which is great since I would never have ordered from the Tarot set myself - having no descriptions, plus I have limited knowledge of the cards. The Hanged Man is sweet and floral, fruity and green, all at the same time. It smells very familiar, put I cannot put my finger on it. When I sniff it on me I can see a beautiful white bloom with tinges of green, but there's also a warmness to it that makes me feel comfortable like when I curl up in my favorite chair. Upon dry down it becomes green and citrusy - like lime, but there's also a contrasting warmness to it - like honey or honeysuckle. The scent is beautiful and lasted all day inside my elbow.

Sugar Skull This smells sooo good! In the bottle it's brown sugar and maple syrup and slightly boozy. On my wrists, the booze goes away and it's starts out as brown sugar and morphs into maple syrup, then molasses. After a couple hours, my wrist smells like MB Underpants after a few hours - sweet thick honey and vanilla. I love this! It morphs and changes deliciously! Also, just for fun I tried layering it over Pink Phoenix thinking I can't go wrong with strawberries and brown sugar! It did smell somewhat like strawberries dipped in brown sugar - but I wasn't planning on doing it again, until a few hours later I sniffed it again, and it smelled EXACTLY like cigar smoke. Even my brother in law who smokes cigars agreed! I actually like the smell, but I don't think I like smelling like I'd smoked cigars. I'll just wear Sugar Skull by itself. It really is lovely! ETA: I tried this again alone, and still it dries down to cigar smoke - sweet and brown. I still love Sugar Skull though, I guess instead of letting it dry down, I'll just reapply!

Trick or Treat In the Bottle and Wet on Skin: Candy Corn? How come I smell pumpkin pie? Starting from a golden buttery crust then the creamy pumpkin puree with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves, and a dollop of whipped cream. This is delicious, but nothing like what I was expecting. How did Beth get a slice of pie into this tiny little bottle? Dry Down: This smells like the Spice Chai Tea Lattes I get at the Nordstrom's coffeeshop - creamy, warm and spicy. Quite nice! As it continues to morph - Oooh, there's the candy! Can't say it's candy corn, but it's sweeter now, creamy and spicy. Not bad at all! Overall this is a yummy Halloween blend, staying power isn't all that great, but definitely worth trying. Oh, and the label is just adorable!

THE HANGING GARDENS This is such a beautiful blend! I smell a lot of sweet tropical fruits, flowers and something earthy, which could be the fig. It keeps this blend well rounded and prevents it from being too sweet. Mmmm. I also smell sweet ripe banana in the background?

Morgause I'd ordered an imp of this in my first ever BPAL order in April - got it in June, and didn't actually get to trying it til last night. After trying lots of other oils I got first, I've deducted that my skin doesn't like florals - which is sad. But I'd forgotten the description of Morgause and slathered some on. Wow. This is a nice cool floral scent. Sweet and beautiful. I don't get purple though, and my husband said I smelled like herbs - which I guess must be the incense. I don't get any fruit here either. But overall it's a lovely blend, and the only floral that's worked for me so far. Must be because there's fruit and incense to tone it down. Beautiful!

#20 Love Oil Wet On Skin: This smells green and herbal-y. Has this clean smell to it - it reminds me of...dishwash liquid or some other cleaning solution. But oddly, I find it rather pleasant. I've found I don't really like floral scents, and this one definitely isn't floral on me. Dry: I'm usually very bad at identifying individual notes, but this one was clearly Citronella. Citrusy and clean with a bit of powder. This is quite nice! Effect on hubby: Let's just say it works .

Unseelie Got this as a frimp with my order - thanks labbies! My first impression from this wet on my wrist is a fat rose-cheeked laughing baby. I'm really bad at identifying individual scents, so all I can say is it smells like a sweet and floral baby powder. The color white comes to mind, and it smells happy and bright. After I put this on for 10 hours, I can still sniff it on my wrist (if I sniff really really hard). Not the most magnificent scent for me, but a pretty blend for those of you floral people out there.

Eat Me was one of the first things to go on my very first wishlist (newbie here), since I like foody scents - and white cake with currants? Mmmmm. When it came with my first order, I tried Eat Me on one wrist and another oil (I think it was Black Hellebore) on the other. BAD idea. The combination almost made me sick and I couldn't wash them off fast enough. I put my poor nose to rest for about a week, then tried Eat Me again - this time ALONE. I guess the first impression is always hard to erase from the mind because it just didn't smell right. Fake vanilla - there was something plastic about it that just didn't do it for me. The scent was blunt, if that makes sense to you, and made me gag. I was so disappointed since I LOVE all the Monsterbaits and hoped to find a GC that would replace them when I ran out.

Enraged Bunny Musk The name sooooo fits this scent! It's a hella horny rabid bunny who's cute and adorably fluffy with a soft white cottontail. The color that comes to mind is white. Powdery and soft, this is a pretty scent. Girly without being overly sweet. Crisp and clean and very light. ETA: Wore this again and man alive! This is such a pretty scent. It's spicy this time, and something perfumey which I take to be musk (I am so clueless when it comes to perfumes and scents). Beautifully sweet! I'm so glad I nabbed a bottle at Will Call! It's odd because it seems all of BPAL's oils seem to smell different each time I wear them, and they get better and better everytime!

First Impression - Annabel Lee, such a pretty name. First Sniff in the Bottle - mmm...very light florals, airy with a bit of tang that keeps it from being too floral. Wet on skin - stays true - light pretty florals. It makes me feel quite happy and pretty. Very girlish. Dry down - Blech! Something in here just does not agree with me and it's making my throat swell up - it smells dry with faint florals now and reminds me of toilet paper? A few hours later - sniffing my wrists - Annabel Lee reminds me of those fabric softener sheets you throw into the dryer. I'll have to give this one a second chance.
