  1. are your circles of friends cool enough to get phoenix / crypt queen costumes? that's awesome.

Well, one of my friends likes BPAL and let me try her imp of Priala (a test which lead to me purchasing a whole bottle of Priala). Other than that, my friends are pretty geeky and into old things / mythology, so as long as I made clear the whole bird + fire thing, they'd figure out the phoenix theme.

I like the steampunk idea. One of my friends recently got me to watch Steamboy, which finally clued me into the steampunk thing some of my friends have been talking about for a while now. Lots of fun. 'Course, I don't have any of the steampunk scents yet, but there is plenty of time to Halloween.

  2. hee! today i won a wedding dress on ebay, which with some work - but truly not too much, or so i tell myself - i'm going to make into a princess giselle costume for halloween (from enchanted - yes, cheesy. sometimes cheese is brie. and will make my 4-year-old daughter's month if i dress up like that). i've been toying with the idea for a while and waiting to see if the right dress would come along.

the bpal of choice? why, poisoned apple, natch!

I'm so tempted to pick a beloved BPAL and base a costume around the concept. Currently, top choice is Priala and some sort of phoenix theme.

  3. Oh, this is beautiful. I'm not yet good at identifying notes, so do forgive, but I'll give it my best (my first review!).

My first sniff in the bottle was almost pure chocolate, but I can pick out the apple now. It's most certainly a blossom, not food; despite loving the smell of apple, I can't stand smelling of apples, so I was worried about this. It's fine. The blossom and other scents round out the chocolate and keep it from being foody.

It's strongly chocolate on me, but I don't feel like a bakery. I think I'm getting the spices, but more as a general "spice" to accent the chocolate. I get more apple blossom in the bottle than on the skin. Drydown's a nice cocoa.

I was initially worried that it would be too much like El Dia De Reyes, but that's supremely foody and this isn't. They've got a similar feel to the chocolate, but they're very different scents.

ETA: Wet, this gives me a blast of strong chocolate throw. Once it's dry, it wears a little closer to the skin, and late drydown has more spice with less chocolate.

  4. I didn't actually plan this. I wrapped my Dad's Father's Day gift after applying some Obatala to the backs of my hands. The gift was a tropical shirt, for him to wear on the family's upcoming vacation.

He opened the package and said, "Coconuts? I smell coconuts."

Appropriate, even if it was unplanned.

  5. Reviving this for Halloween 06.

I'm going to be a gypsy, but I, alas, have no Scherezade or Morocco, or really anything in that category. My imp of Snake Oil decapitated itself, so I haven't even that. I'm thinking one of the following: Bathsheba, Blood Rose, Dragon's Blood, Himerus, or maybe Kali. I'm leaning toward Blood Rose or Dragon's Blood.
