Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
beachbabealways replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
Of course, I would suggest you e-mail the Lab for the definitive answer, but I think those probably are in the category Beth was referring to when they posted the disclaimer on the website (it's on the welcome page) that says "Terms used on this site such as 'brimstone', 'saltpeter', 'opium', and the like are intended as descriptive copy, and are not literal translations of the ingredients of our scents." Those are just a few of the notes listed in BPAL scents that are there to describe what the perfume smells like or the feeling it's supposed to invoke as opposed to a laundry list of what it actually in there... metal, bubblegum, wine, leather, dust, smoke, sugar are some of the more common ones that I am pretty sure fall in that category too. It is a little more confusing when it's a plant name, since we're all very used to plant extracts being used to make perfumes, so again, if you have concerns the buck stops with the Lab's customer service. But given the huge liability in using something dangerous and the compassion the Lab shows in charity work and such, I can't picture Beth suddenly deciding to use a few known skin irritants or poisons. Thanks I&P. At first when I read that info I was a bit worried but I just knew in my heart Beth would not do such a thing. -
Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
beachbabealways replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
I was reading the description of Wiley's Swamp last night and I didn't recognize a few of the names so I looked them up on Wikipedia and now I have some concerns. Bog-Laurel contains grayanotoxin, which when ingested lowers blood pressure, and may cause respiratory problems, dizziness, vomiting, or diarrhea. I know it says ingested but if it can get in the skin is that a problem as well? Virginia Creeper - Oxalate crystals are also contained in the sap, and can cause irritation and skin rash. Please don't get me wrong, I am not saying Beth is using things in the oils that would hurt us but this really makes me scratch my head -
Yes! I especially have problems with sets--For those labels with art that I particularly love, I want the bottles just so I have the full set of the art. And the latest 'ween labels are SO freakin' amazing...I'm in trouble. Not to mention my excitement for the art on the Lilith Victoria scents! Of course...the perfumes are good too I am. Sure wish more people would post pics. I'm dying to see Graveyard Dirt, School-House, Churchyard & Huesos de Santo.

I second that.

The original one had a paper label the re-releases have had the new shiny label. Other than that they should look the same.

Thanks for posting pics of SGA everyone. I didn't order this one and actually glad I didn't. The label is too scary. Reminds me of the girl from Ringu and that was just creepy as hell.

Stimulating Sassafras Strengthener

I don't know how Beth does it but I am floored by SSS!! It starts off smelling like Rootbeer but ends up smelling so damn sexy ... I can't even explain it. Sooooo glad this is a GC because this may be the first bottle I might actually use up. The onycha is what pull's this into another dimension. What is Onycha? Onycha is the door membrane of a snail-like mollusk found in the Red Sea. This is one of the ingredients used in the Holy Incense in Exodus 30. Throw (on me): excellent Lasting Power: 6+ hours Rating 1-5: 5+++ I highly recommend SSS. -
This is lovely! Yummy without being too foody. My 9 year old 3rd cousin is spending the summer with us and I had put this on and she walked into the kitchen and said ooooh can I have some coffee?? I said "No, and there isn't any anyway" She said "YES there is, I can smell it and it smells delicious" I had to stick my arm under her nose so that she would believe me. What is it with all the kids today?? They think adults are just yankin their chain until you prove that your not. Is it a keeper?? Yes

Ooooh I love this! It's very sexy. It smells almost like Jil Sander's Sun. It's amazing how similar these two are. They both have the same dry down. (Sun's dry down ... The exotic and woody dry down is composed of Patchouli, Amber, Vanilla and Musk.) I'm pretty sure Beth does not always give us every single note in her perfumes (some things have to be secret) so maybe there's a bit of amber in TIW?? I can pick up every note in this. I get the pine pitch when it's wet but not on the dry down so if your afraid of that I wouldn't worry too much. No menthol in my bottle or on skin. So sorry schackjj, I feel bad this didn't work on you. So far this is my favorite from the CD with MME Moriarty coming in second (now). Bravo Beth!! And Congrats Shelldoo for having such a sexy perfume made in your honor. Multiple bottles? Maybe one more now that I discovered it's like my bottle of Sun. ETA: I changed my review overnight. After sleeping with TIW (lol) and waking up this morning I realized that TIW is almost exactly like Sun (and not Amir). So I went to my perfume cabinet and grabbed my bottle of Sun. Sprayed it on and was like "Hell yeah, I knew the TIW smelled like something I already had in my possession. My husband also said it smelled familiar so I asked him and he agreed.

Limited editions equivalents in the general catalog?

The closest thing I have found to Snake Charmer is layering Snake Oil with Antonino, The Carny Talker. -
Incensy and warm with a very nice sweet-ish honey smell. The sweetness is not over the top. Very sensual. Wear length on me: 7 hours. Keeper?: I *think* so.

PEZ candy. Which one you ask? All of them mixed together. Very nice. -
Gloop + 13 (original white label blue bottle)... soooo lovely! The blue bottle version has more chocolate than the white label amber bottle (which I also have). I would also recommend Candy Butcher + Gloop.

Anyone know how many variations there are of the Tiki Queen and King labels? Personally, I wish they would stick with just one label. I hate to be disappointed when I want one label but get the other. Anyone else feel this way??

TP'd Tree: I would have never expected this based on the notes listed. This reminds me of the pale color aqua. It's a fresh clean smell, nothing harsh here. Cottony with a light aquatic tone. It's in the same class of scent as Enraged Bunny Musk, the difference to me is EBM has a note in it that smells like a handful of that square gum that you get in those 25 cent machines. That note is missing in TPT. Very pretty without being too girly and I believe this would work for both male and female. Has a roll of TP un-rolling across the label ... really cute! It's a keeper! Edited font color.

I originally got a bottle of this back in 06 and got rid of it rather quickly because at the time I was not into scents like this. My tastes are changing because of BPAL. I was a huge foody fan (still am to some extent) but I really like the hippy type scents and to me this falls into that category. I can pick up every single note in this and so glad I re-discovered it and found a bottle. Bye bye Kingsport and H-E-L-L-O Pink Phoenix! ETA: I would like to clarify the Hippy statement ... I remember when I was young and would go into certain shops they would burn an incense and it smelled just like this.

Got an Imp of this today in a swap. Troll is a brother to The Music of Erich Zahn. They both have this pencil shavings thing going on (yuck). It must be the cumin. Wet: It smells of pine but about 10 min after application this smells just like MoEZ. Not my cuppa tea.

here you go! ooh that is pretty ... love the colors.

Oooh I'd love to see all the different Smut labels. Ok girls (and boys) let's get those camera's flashin. I posted the 2006 and 2007 labels, if you hadn't seen all of those yet. I'm not sure if there was another 2007 label though: http://www.bpal.org/index.php?autocom=gall...si&img=1898 http://www.bpal.org/index.php?autocom=gall...si&img=1899 Thanks for posting the pictures.

It's not the best but it's nighttime here and my best pics are taken in the daylight. I hope this is not to large, if it is (Mods) please let me know and I will provide a link instead. ETA: BaB ... the background has a very very faint light gray poem on the label.
