this is a very well-aged decant... i know i've had it for over a year and hadn't opened it until yesterday. impsniff: oo, pretty soft roses! not expensive-rose-soap smell, and not Hi I Am A Rose smell, either. but pretty and soft - a different sort of rose than i usually get from the Lab. on skin: oh, wait. there's something else in here besides roses because this is turning funky on me, like blood and perm solution...but mostly blood.

first off, i'm very grateful to the forumite who is the reason i can try this! sniffed from the decant: smells like Jack. and an eensy bit like Shill. on skin: the yummy-rich Jackness fades, and the almost-popcorn scent is still there but it becomes much more plain popcorn or hops, almost yeasty. i really don't smell that much pumpkin out of this - not the "pumpkin pie" type scent, or the scent of real, squishy, jack-o-lantern-innards, either. this quickly develops a bitter sort of note (asphalt? smoke?) on me that the caveman part of my brain doesn't like. Fire Bad, Tree Pretty - no like this on me! quick edit: after awhile, i do get more of a Roadhouse type of beer scent wafting around. and... pineapple, maybe?

grapefruit with some grapefruit and a little grapefruit in my instant powdered tea. not for me!

oh, wow ... this truly is like the smoke that comes from the brass censer in a church... i can't even begin to describe it, other than to say i'm glad i'm not an alter boy.

frimpsniff: Yardley products, all mixed together on skin: this seems a very nostalgic scent... the violets and the lilac blend into a gentle, feminine scent that is much too soft for me.

you know that deep, thick, syrupy thing Snake Oil does as it ages? this one starts out life looking that way. which is kinda neat. and kinda wrong. frimpsniff: vetiver, cedar and a drop of patchouli on skin: no change from the wet stage, except i think the vetiver gets stronger. i loves me some patchouli, but i didn't get any out of this blend.

erm. this is like LUSH's Karma soap, but in a bottle (i know they make a spray fragrance, but it smells different. this smells like the soap) at least, on me.

i hate grapefruit. and i think it hates me right back because in the imp and on my skin that is all i can smell

again with the lavender! i understand that it is supposed to be relaxing and good-sleep-inducing... but isn't there something else that can be used instead... maybe? a sniff of this is good enough for me... Lavender... doesn't need to be on my skin. (sorry Lab)

impsniff: old-school band-aids (yeah, i don't get it either) on skin: band-aids AND mercurichrome -- was i bad? did i get a booboo? to note: this is not what real opium smells like (the kind you smoke, not the kind you spray) but it may be what the flower smells like. having never seen one... i dunno.

i remember thinking this blend could go either way on me... with notes i love and notes i hate. frimpsniff: white sage or smudge sticks and a resiny-sweet something ... the labdanum? on skin: this becomes a gorgeous masculine scent - upscale and subtle.

i remember this as having been one of the first dozen or so BPAL i tried... i also remember not liking it. trying it again today as i go through an imp-box cleaning out! impsniff: Jasmine, in all her filthy glory on skin: jasmine and ... some other things that the jasmine is trying to consume. anything with jasmine in it... my skin swallows any other notes completely and the evil that is jasmine is the only thing i can detect.

hate grapefruit, don't care for plum and the Lab's bergamot doesn't agree with me. orris & black amber, though = yay frimpsniff: smells like all the smells on the laundry-products aisle combining together. feels like i just got a nosefull of either Cascade or powdered Tide. made me sneeze, even. on skin: exact dupe of old-skewl powdered (no liquid. that's just wrong) Mr. Bubble. no more and no less.

frimpsniff: dark chocolate, red wine and coffee on skin: the red wine scent fades but the chocolate/cocoa/coffee note gets stronger. thankfully no blood... but this is too *something* for me. okay scent, but no.

i had tried this over a year ago and i remember thinking i didn't like it. so i've tried it again and... it really is lovely. reminds me a bit of Dorian, but with the pinkness of sweet pea instead of the pale yellow of lemon. must remember to add a bottle of this to my next order!

i had been afraid of trying this one, but i don't remember why now. this becomes a very clean scent on me - vanilla-mandarin more than anything else.

there's an eensy bit of Voodoo history in my family tree...and this blend must contain much that is similar to something that was given to me when i was teenytiny, because this smells so familiar, so safe... if "home" had a smell, this might be it. sniff: almost butter-toffee -- Callard and Bowser type, not as sweet as werther's original...but with a bit of something almost citrus. skin: the citrus blossoms and becomes almost floral (something like magnolia or mimosa, but not), the sweetness is still there, but not as obvious. as it wears, something sultry/smoky comes out to play. overall: LOVE.

nine years of catholic school...these are scents i know very well. frimpsniff: yup. smells like christmas. just needs some gold flakes swirling around in the oil à la Goldschläger or some such. i've had quite a lot of fragrance-oil blends over the years that were either Leo themed or August-Birthday themed or in some way aimed at my birthstone or birthdate, and most of them smell like frankincense and myrrh - which i totally do not understand. on skin: i still smell like christmas. if i add in a little gold glitter, i'll be all set.

frimpsniff: candy! so surprised by this... but this smells like candy ribbons on skin: this blossoms into a gorgeous scent! still candy ribbons, but with a little more orange and a bit of rose. i'd call this unisex and i bet it'd smell teh yumz on certain guys.

this sounded SO yummy. until i realised that the Lab's juniper turns into almost-mint on me. other than that, this is a gorgeous, very mascule scent. totally uNf-worthy. i never did get anything even remotely floral out of this, though.

i do not like mint. oakmoss is frequently overpowering and ambergris doesn't like *me*. Spanish Moss is one of my favourite Yankee Candle scents. sniffed from the imp: smells like what i expected from Numb... toothpaste-y on skin: have i mentioned that i don't like mint, at all? well, this isn't anywhere near as awful as i was expecting. not bad at all, in fact. nothing i'll ever choose to wear again but for this evening it'll be okay. add in a bit of sugar and some good booze and this is just a mint julep waitin' to happen!

sniffed from the frimp: O. and... raw honey...and something tree-sap-like. on skin: honey...and cherry/almond...and some sort of wildflower. interesting, and i'll keep my frimp.

as a general rule, i don't like lavender.... however i've never slept well and the Lab has repeatedly frimped me this, so i figured it was time i tried it. at least, that's what i thought until i opened it... and was almost knocked over my the sinus-clearing, nausea-inducing scent of LAVENDER screaming at me. i closed the imp, carefully, and tucked it far, far into the depths of ye olde swap pile o'doom. i'm sorry, but this is not touching my skin.

sniffed from the imp: jasmine! on skin: jasmine... if there's anything else, i can't tell. i can't get past the jasmine. it hateses me as much as i hateses it.

A ghoulish and tortured scent, suffused with the blackness of space illimitable: ajowan, vetiver, black musk, opoponax, mimosa, and tamarind. sniffed from the imp: a human musk (not an unwashed sort of smell, just... a skin sort of smell) running slightly toward the scent of Greed - with something sharp (the Vetiver, i'm guessing) that makes the inside of my nose tingle now, let me also say that i don't know what ajowan or tamarind are supposed to smell like. but on me, the black musk gives this a lovely foundation, the mimosa adds in something creamy-sweet and i'm guessing the myrrh/tamarind is what is adding the richness/depth here. i really don't like this at first, but after a bit it morphs into something truly lovely. i'd been putting off trying this for ages - and now i don't know why... i think the colour of the oil (almost Dragon's Blood red) may have been scaring me a little.
