Sage with orris, Florentine iris and a drop of civet. i don't get sage at all... which is almost a shame. what i *do* get.... well, i think it was about 13 years ago that Suave discontinued what had been my favourite shampoo... it was the same shade of green (maybe a little darker) as their apple kind, but it was called something like Extra Cleansing. or Deep Clean (not Depp clean as i just typo-d and fixed mmm... johnny... ) and it smelled like this. vaguely herbally (like the 70's Herbal Essence shampoo -- not the newly reborn ones) and clean, unisex but with a powdery tinge and the faintest hint of Ivory Soap. (99.44% pure and all that -- y'know it floats cuz it has airbubbles in it?) i get no civet, very little of my beloved lillies... but alot of green.

impsniff: smells like those little buttermints you put out around fancy dinners... the kind that dissolve sorta instantly? on skin: EUCALYPTUS. and ViOleTs.... and mint. an hour later: Violet and toothpaste-mint...with the powdery/chalkiness of the orignial sniff-from-the-imp (buttermints) returned. an unclaimed cousin of the rose family, it seems. an old-fashioned (while still being perfectly acceptable as current) sort of scent... i imagine you could take this back in time a hundred or three hundred years and it'd be perfectly accepted (good to know, should you plan any timetravel!) possibly also a nice introductory BPAL scent .... for a MiL or gramma or coworker? for some reason this makes me think Yardley -- but i don't know that they've ever put out a violet?

i'm sure this echoes what others have said, but this is creamy-green-milky. rather smells like the outside of a coconut (not the white meat part inside) but then again it doesn't. i don't get fig from this, either (we had fig plants, once upon a time...) but it certainly does have a green/foresty scent -- not entirely unlike an orchid, really. it.... actually smells kind of dangerous, to me. like if someone caught a whiff of this off me, they might be a little more wary of me than if i, say, smelled like roses. ..... like maybe i dabble in things i shouldn't. i know what this reminds me of! Mandrake...fresh from the ground mandrake root!
-
i've never met a rose that smelled like this! i get no spices, nor anything even remotely rose-ish. more like violets and jasmine and a sort of the-dishwasher-just-finished-the-cycle-and-is-still-steaming-hot-and-you-opened-the door kind of chemically citrus-mint smell -- like Cascade ("with Sheeting action") i don't think i can wait to see if this morphs into something bearable, i think i need to go attempt to scrub this off.

sniffed from the bottle: kosher wine mixed with grapejuice on me: a merlot scented candle and roses very little else. rather smells like Yankee Candle "Shiraz" and "Roses of Cliff Walk" blended (both of which i believe are now discontinued, so that's probably profoundly unhelpful) i really don't get any leather, but that's okay... this is sortof an elegant out-to-dinner sort of scent. even dominatrixes get taken out to fancy restaurants sometimes

impsniff: Lemon Pledge. on me: my hands after using Lemon Pledge. i can tell that there are other notes in this blend... i can sort of *feel* them... but i don't smell anything but lemon, and bergamot smells really nothing like lemon (to me, bergamot essential oil has always smelled like a freshly opened box of Trix cereal) i've spent half an hour sniffing and thinking, and now i can't smell it at all -- it faded THAT fast, i think that's a record! hm, rather disappointing, that. especially considering that most of the, erm, S&M types i've known have had more than their share of stamina. or maybe Wanda just wore him out? dunno. i'll hafta try this on the boi, though.

frimp from the lab (as always, i'm grateful) impsniff: smells like grape jolly ranchers. on skin: this smells familiar, but i can't quite place it. i get no almonds, no plum... but i do get lots of purple flowers. i slathered this on quite thoroughly and an hour later can only just barely smell it.

i think Smut and Snake Oil are having an affair... i wish i didn't know what civet is. or, rather, where it comes from. but i do, and i still sometimes like the scent. other times.... it is poo. this... is Smut without the sweet, and Snake Oil without the baby powder... with an eensy bit of a cinnamony type spice. i like it, but i can see where people get poo.... and i'm almost afraid to wear it, cuz what if that's what everyone else smelled, too. *poUt*
-
wow, this one is just chock full of notes that i tend to avoid.... but it was a frimp, so i shall try it. sniffed from the impstick: Hawaiian Punch. on me: this becomes a tropical punch sort of Kool-Aid scent. big creamy-orange flowers and shiny green leaves, and sweet like an orange melon. very faint, no throw. to those inclined towards the notes in this blend, it should be a winner. as for me, i'm putting this one up for adoption.

i hadn't ordered this because i was a-feared of the mixture of vetiver and lemon. but i was gifted with an imp of it today... i get whiffs of early 80's mens' cologne. possibly Polo? not quite Giorgio for men or Paco Rabanne... but i see images of all three of those bottles floating around in my head when i sniff the top of my hand. (i tend to think in pictures. does that make me wierd?) on me, i feel like i've used somebody else's fragrance (like when i'm at a guy friend's house and take a shower and use their soap, or borrow a sweater they've been wearing) it smells good, but wrong on me. i really don't get vetiver or lemon (thank goodness) but maybe just the idea of vetiver holding the sandalwood and .... herbs? green woods? all together. i'm not sure this would smell good on *my* boi, either... there's something a little too almost powder-sweet for him. or for me to want on him, since he can't smell... but on the right person (yeah, i think there's a definite possibility that person would be male) i bet this would be

somehow i'd managed to not notice this scent before... and the other night i made a mental note to add it to my mega 10mL bottle purchase list...unsniffed and today -- i was gifted an imp of it! and wow! sniffed from the imp: Guinness. *puRr* on me: sun-warmed dandelions! or the way my hands smell after making a dandelion chain. there is an odd almost rose scent wafting around somewhere (maybe somebody else's mom was sitting outside with us, while we were playing?) and a herbacious (herb-y) green note that might be BPAL hops. (different from the hops i'm used to, but similar) happy and natural and gee, i've always secretly liked the movie Roadhouse... even if it does have Patrick Swayze in it. if it smelled like this - now i know why [=

hmmm.... i'm still not sure how i feel about this one. on me, is mostly orchids (yay) but there's something.... that makes it just NotQuiteRight. i re-sniffed my SN Apple Blossom... and that's as sweet and true and honeysuckleish as ever.... i love mosses... so i'm guessing that the meadowsweet is what's turning this just ever so slightly away from LOVE into... like. a very interesting smell. i'll hafta try this one again... it reminds me of *something* but i can't... place what. something that i once wore/used/sprayed/washed with.... something i had on my dresser (but that doesn't narrow it down much)

this is how i wanted Alice to smell. clean and innocent and pure, childlike wonder -- or just a little bit crazy. i really don't get any leather. at all. i get roses and something that might be tea... or might just be fertilizer. dunno. as fresh and clean as Dirty is... so is the nasty, naughty Whip.
-
giving this one last test before it gets swapped away... red roses and condensed milk. sounds like it'd be yummy... but... it just isn't. not on me. there are other roses that are better, and i'll take a milkbath if i feel the need to smell of milk. never got any bergamot or carnation, either of those might've helped bring this back down into the realm of "maybe". alas, no Go Ask Alice for me. but that's okay, she's got enough people that love her, and my imp is going to a better, more appreciative home.

tonka and i... we.... well. i was(am) a barbie girl and there just wasn't much room in my life for toy trucks. so, even today, we don't have much in common and generally would just rather not have those awkward social interactions. but absolutely everything else about this blend sounded lovely... so... sniffed from the imp: first thought: "Brut. it smells like a man" (or maybe i'm smelling Aramis. one of the two. early 80's men's cologne scents) on me, pretty much instantly becomes English Leather....the cologne that's been around since the late 40's...with the big wooden (or plastic that looks like wood) almost egg-shaped knob for a cap. my daddy wore this when i was little, and its a very familiar, comforting scent.
-
hm. very, very faint. very interesting scent... reminds me of the smell of some of the peel-off type facial masks -- a greenish-blue sweet with a bit of a zing. sortof comforting and refreshing all at the same time. i think i like this even though, from the description, i didn't think i would.

*siGh* toothpaste... and a little perfumey something. but mostly just smells like my hands after i've brushed my teeth. who'da thunk the river Styx smelled so minty fresh and clean? after awhile i do get something rather medicinal-y, not completely unlike the Barbicide used in salons (that's "Barb" as in short for "Barber" -- nothing to do with hurtin' Barbie, here.) yeah. definitely toothpaste and barbicide.

impsniff: rubbing alcohol and grapefruit skinned: take whatever is lemony in Dorian and make it grapefruit, then add in a few yellow and purple wildflowers. and then take it far far away from me. please.

beautiful beautiful beautiful yummy. uNf. i'm not sure i even begin to know where to start with the YUM that is this. sniffed from the imp: smells rather like my red/pink Manic Panic colour depositing shampoo (smells SO good).... on skin: if Zombi is dried roses, then these are the roses when they're fresh... with some of the Body Shop's moonflower and a bit of April Fresh/Downy/Fabric Softener or Demeter's "Laundromat" in there somewhere. ......i dunno what's in this that flips the switch, but this is an instant splash of omg-must- drag-boy-to-bed-or-cave-or-somewhat-secluded-space-NOW. like Spike and David Bowie and Prince and Steven Tyler and Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons and Jaye Davidson and Butch Walker all rolled into one heavenly drop of oil -- way more than snake oil or O or any of the other smells-like-sex scents i've tried. (well, that's my list. use your own list of eye candy). i know i'm wierd.

after i tested this out and took notes.... i scanned a few other reviews just to see if i was really really off in left field... but no. others have gotten this, too: cinnamon gum. dentyne (although probably misspelled), specifically. sweeter, somehow, than Samhain, but with a dry-feeling gasping-for-air *something* that makes me feel yick.

Cleo was my beautiful kittybaby =^..^= ... so i've held off on trying this one.... i lost her last December (she was 17) and i haven't even yet begun to recover. i digress. the name makes me sad, so i haven't tried it until tonight. still makes me sad, but at least there's no catnip in this blend or i might've lost my mind. what's left of it. sniffed from the imp, i didn't get much of a scent at all... but as soon as it hit my skin it turned into orange creamsicle on the lumber aisle at Home Despot. or lowes. or your local lumberyard. odd, but it works. thankfully i only get some of the impressions of lavender, not the actual scent. very faint and no throw at all... dry like white wine. the top of my hand itches a little where i put the oil, that's probaby just my gut-reaction to any lavender that there may be. my skin knows it makes me queasy.
-
sniffed from the bottle... this smells so yummy, floral but not. and very familiar... as soon as it hits my skin, it changes just a little and becomes a (drugstore) perfume i wore when i was wee (well, i think i was 7)... Vervé in either Mist of Spring or Twilight Mist, i can't remember which one it was that smelled like this, but it was one of them.... if i can find my old bottles, i'll check. LOVE this. love. so glad i have a bottle.
-
has anyone mentioned what a gorgeous colour the oil is? deep clear pink, almost the colour of the clear pink nailpolish used for the nail beds in french manicures. yum. sniff from the imp: lilacs on skin: lilac. no lily. no dragon's blood. and a bit of a headache. not for me. but the oil is so pretty....
-
full of yummy wonderful notes that sometimes don't blend so well for me... Ivy and Lily, i love them but they tend not to like me so much... in the imp: smells like wild white roses. on me: turns into gardenias. (i have this problem with lots of floral scents) still a clean, fresh, white-floral scent... just not for me.
-
this was one of the first few BPAL scents i tried... and i must say, it was a good indication of things to come. full of notes that i love... but apparently not when they are all put together. i *wanted* rose petals and red wine. i got dog soaked in apple juice.
