    Clarimonde

my quickie review, when i tried this at DSWC, was trying it again, without having sniffed/tried dozens of other scents, it still reminds me of a collective Avon scent. but, then, if i sniff the back of my hand again, it reminds me a bit of Black Opal and White Rain hairspray. i'm glad this bottle is going to a better home, where it will be loved!

    How Doth the Little Crocodile

to begin: i hate mint, and i don't especially like chocolate. cedar generally makes me feel like i'm in a hamster cage, and oakmoss tends to overwhelm many things for me....pistachios taste icky but i can't really remember what they smell like. but, all mixed together, it isn't as awful as i expected. maybe pistachios smell yummy? the chocolate is more Gelt-y and cocoa-y than Hersheys, and the mint is more sweet than biting. green cedar must smell slightly different from standard because it only slightly smells like the inside of my gramma's cedar chest, but the oakmoss still adds the old bottle of mostly evaporated perfume sort of smell. i'm frimping this along to someone who might enjoy it more... but it certainly was an interesting scent experience!

    The Parliament of Monsters (2006)

sadly, something in this turns to cedar on me.

    Tiki Queen

somehow, on me, this becomes something halfway between Necco Wafers and Razzles.

    War

wow, if only i could get a bottle of this without the horrid "black spices" !@$#%!^♥!!!!

oh, without the gardenia this would be beautiful!

two notes that never work, two that can go either way, two that usually work and one i'm not sure about. jasmine wins. jasmine...and maybe the teensiest bit of cedar.

    Josie

one note i love, one note that's usually a dealbreaker. and, this is all peach. and not a good peach on me, either. it's the peach from Labyrinth.

    Countess Willie

amaretto is cherry-almond-doom, and "candied fruits" don't bode well, either. overall, this seems like Boomslang and O and some gummy candy. seems like it might ought to work on me but it just...doesn't.

    Emma

jasmine and pepper are dealbreaker notes for me, and tea rose doesn't like me, either. but overall, this strikes me as a very old-fashioned sort of scent. something almost timeless, actually. all the notes seem pretty well-balanced, even the jasmine doesn't take over! this isn't something i could ever wear, though.

    Flora

based on the notes, i thought i'd really like this blend. but somewhere between the "wet fruits" and the tuberose....this goes wrong. and all i can smell is something like apricots or mangoes, or some other fruit i can't stand.

    Crib Girls

as a general rule, the Lab's honey doesn't work on me. but this scent is nothing like what i had expected! it's like... lemongrass, or lemon pledge, and sourwood honey. so odd!

    Banana Peel in a Graveyard

this is my beloved Graveyard Dirt...with a side of banana. possibly the strangest BPAL in my collection? i LOVE it, though. ♥

    Cupcake Spatter Pattern Analysis

buttercream and cocoa.... like a frosted chocolate cupcake. instead of "filth", though, i think i smell the paper the cupcake was baked in. overall, i LOVE the initial cake-batter-buttercream scent, but as soon as the dusty cocoa/chocolate scent shows up, this just goes all wrong on me.

    Green Tree Viper

fresh out of the shower snake! i imagine it to be green tea shampoo followed by bergamot conditioner and freshly brushed fangs. so, er, yeah. Snake Oil and toothpaste. bearing in mind that i can't stand mint

    Hermia

how does this turn into bubblegum on me?

    Cobra Lily

reminds me of the tiger lillies that grew outside our old house. with dragon's blood. and a cherry cough drop.

    White Chocolate and Sugared Violets

chocolate covered violets. i wonder if the chocolate was tinted purple?

    Nuclear Winter

yup. Reaver nailed it. i'm so glad this is going to a better home!

    Alchemical Laboratory

at first, this smelled like metals and lubricating oils, but within minutes it had changed and become something sortof comforting and familiar. Lycanthrope and Monster both pretty much nailed it, too. it's all the colours & scents of dish liquid....mixed (all the American scents... i've found that washing up liquids in different countries have very different scents) the white, green, pink, yellow, and clear with "bleach alternative" or maybe it smells of frankincense and geranium. and i know it doesn't seem like those possibilities could smell the least bit alike but really...they do.

    Aswang v1

this smells...exactly the way my best friend used to when he got out of the shower. a combination of his own natural scent, water, and his soap/shampoo/hair products. but mostly it smells like Nexxus Humectress -- which, admittedly, he used a ton of on his nearly ass-length long wavy hair. a dab of this, a dab of Quincey Morris and a dab of Realm for Men (the original, not the blue version) and holy wow, i could close my eyes and have it be 2001 again. (this is a good thing) but i think i'll just keep myself a decant of this and then let the bottle move on to a better home.

    The Witch's Repast

i've had Kvass and i loved it. the idea of honey-drizzled bread is mouthwateringly delicious. the roasted meat, well, i could honestly live without, and wine...can go either way. but i'd already tried a prototype of this at DSWC and loved it - it was like the missing Eat Me/Drink Me sibling! and now, being able to try it leisurely, it is even better. rye bread, maybe? or a very dark wheat. tupelo honey and sweet kosher wine. LOVE.

    Despair

this was one of the very, very first BPAL decants i ever bought.... but i never reviewed it. since it is moving on to a new home, i thought i should jot down my impressions: sweet tears. not sure why i get something salty out of this, but i do. faintly woody, faintly sweet (like lavender or roses, not like candy) and really.... sad. had this been available, i'd probably wear it regularly, but since it isn't... i treasured this vial and brought it out to sniff occasionally. but as i said, now it is going off to a new home.

    ummm... pickles and sasparilla?

    Pothôn Mêtêr

i didn't much care for this when the Aphrodite series was out, but now that this bottle is going to live at a new home, i thought i should do a quick review. but a quick reminder: i hate pepper, it ruins everything (food or perfume). i think i've mentioned in reviews before, about the rosebush we had growing out by the pool when i was little... it was there when we bought the house, no idea what kind of roses they were, dark dark fuschia pink, beautiful. but they stank, smelled like black pepper. this blend smells like those roses, but rolled in sugar. not that it is actually sweet, really, because the cognac and pepper temper the caramel and fruit... but overall it is a very interesting blend.
