This starts off as clove-infused Big Red gum, but the clove gains strength over time, which helps to take the scent out of that territory (although the cinnamon never completely loses that association for me). I have sensitive skin, so I applied this to the back of my hand in case I needed to scrub it off. It felt very warm for some time but never left any welts, surprisingly. I put it on a 9 AM and it is still noticeable by 3 PM, although it is softer. This isn't a duet I would wear on its own, and it's not something I could slather (due to having sensitive skin), so it's not something I need a whole bottle of, but I think I will try layering this with some non-BPAL tea and cardamom single notes to see if I can make a nice chai scent, or try it layered with an orange scent to create a Yule pomander effect. If those combinations are successful, I might keep a decant of oil from this bottle. But if those layering experiments don't work out, I'll just stick with my Sweet Clove SN.

This starts off strong on the yuzu and lime accompanied by the thyme flower (which isn't as strong as straight up thyme, which tends to smell like I took a bunch of fresh thyme and rubbed it against my wrists when it is in a blend). These notes remain the dominant notes throughout wear, but over time, it ends up smelling like an herbal citrus soap due to the addition of the musk and woods. I'm glad I got to try this one, but I am basic and just want a yuzu and lime duet now.

I don't think this imp aged very well. It goes on like a cedar pencil and eraser, similar to the way Posset's base tends to smell on me, and then some other woods join in, as well as some red patchouli. It's pretty dry and woody (cedar remains the strongest wood note) after several hours of wear, and the dryness could be the parchment with the woods and patchouli (it does have an old book pages feel to it), but I am getting zero lavender or orange from this. I think they've disappeared with age. Alas. I wish I could have tried a fresh version of this, because the notes sound lovely.

Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple
doomsday_disco replied to UberClaire's topic in Black Phoenix Trading Post
Sugar-Slathered Candied Apple -- With a dollop of caramel! This one starts off pretty rough. It goes on as kind of a sugary plastic that turns into acetone-splashed sugary apple before settling down into a sugary caramel apple. I'm not a big fan of caramel in perfume, but the caramel in this is a light, golden variety, and there's not enough of it to be overpowering. After a few hours, it's a glob of caramel cozied up to a crisp apple. While I enjoy the end result, the sharp, nail polish remover-esque opening is too much for me. I'm not sure if it's a poorly aged decant fail or a skin chemistry one, though. But the reviews are so positive that I'd be up for trying another decant of it if one came my way, because I like the end result much more than the Candied Apple Single Note that was released back in 2015. -
Hmm. Either Black Lily is not so dark and shadowy, or this imp is mislabeled, because it's very pink and reminds me of the sweet pink carnation of High Strung Daisies. I'm not getting lily or darkness, just something that smells similar to High-Strung Daisies (or might be that scent in disguise). If this really is how Black Lily is supposed to be, I like it more than I thought I would, buuuut I already have High-Strung Daisies ALL THE THINGS and do not need more of this one.

Tempest starts off as somewhat clean and soapy, likely due to the ozone, before allowing a gentle rain note to shine through. It reminds me of the 'rain' accord that can be used in wax melts (which I think may have a touch of a floral note involved). I wish I could have the rain without the soapy ozone, but I don't dislike its clean scent along with the rain note, so I'll be holding onto my imp to wear to bed on a rare rainy night. I like this more than Lightning, which was a little saltier and more ozonic on me.

I was frimped a decant of this and was surprised to discover I like it, given that I don't even like Smut. (Heresy, I know.) It's a musky, soft, well-worn leather and Snake Oil blend with some light patchouli. The grape-y musk that I really dislike in Smut isn't prominent here. However, it seems pretty soft for a Snake Oil blend (especially since both Snake Oil and Smut are powerhouses on their own). The cardamom never showed up on me. I'm really glad I got to try this! I'm not sure it is something I need more of, since I'd probably still opt for Snake Skin for Snake Oil and leather, but if you want an extra helping of musk along with your Snake Oil, give this a whirl.

This starts off as primarily pink grapefruit on me, but then some Fun Dip powder and honey joins in, making it a honeyed citrus candy type of scent (that's more about the honey and Fun Dip powder than the grapefruit after a day of wear). I'm glad I got to try this, because I adore grapefruit, but I'll be passing my decant on, since I know I won't reach for this over other grapefruit scents in my collection. If you want to smell like Fun Dip powder, though... this might be up your alley.

This one is very light. I'm not sure if it is because of how old this decant is or if it is due to the nature of the scent. But it does smell like dusty, dry lotus root accompanied by some other floral notes. The honey was very light and short-lived on me, so to me, this isn't like the DCed Tiger Lily, as that one is more honeyed and has a far more prominent lily note. The dry lotus in this definitely smells dry and not like the bright lotus root in Volcano in Springtime. It makes me think of a dried bouquet. I'd say this is more of a dusty floral scent than a sweet one. I'm glad I got to try it, since this was a Poe scent, but I was really hoping for more sweetness from this one!

The Macabray starts off heavy on the mentholated, minty snow (maybe similar to the one from Nuclear Winter? But I am not sure -- it has been a while since I've smelled that one). It smells very icy and stays like that for hours before the white floral notes are able to emerge from the frost. After several hours, it's a light white floral scent accompanied by smooth, clean ice without the mint. I was really hoping this one would feature a different snow note (like a sweeter one). I think this is nice, but it is not something I'd reach for over other snowy floral blends that I have, so I will pass this decant on to someone who is ISO this scent.

The first note to jump out at me is the smoky musk. It is the dominant note, backed by the resins. The musk is like a slightly smoky, yet cleaner version of brown musk. I think it is the type of musk usually used to give off a 'fur' vibe. The scent gets a little smokier and resinous over time (more sandalwood than anything else) but is still predominantly musky. There touches of ambergris and tonka, but the honey and black currant reside pretty far in the background, and I only noticed them because I knew to look for them in the notes. I was really hoping the ambergris would be a main player on me, but alas, it was the musk.

This features the same pretzel note from Thrills and Junk Food (which I am delighted is noticeable on me) as well as some chocolate chip cookie. It goes through different phases, sometimes having that Keebler Elf double fudge vibe that zee_zee mentioned, sometimes smelling like a chocolate chip cookie studded with salt and sugar, and sometimes being such a buttery soft pretzel that the butteriness almost reminds me of popcorn. But for the most part, the slightly salty, soft, buttery pretzel dominates more than the chocolate. It's not as heavily chocolate-y as Theáomai, which is another Lilith scent that features chocolate chip cookie and pretzel notes, and I didn't get any pretzel from that one, so I'm glad it's present throughout wear in this one on me. At every phase, it is dangerous, because it smells delicious and makes me want to snack.

This starts off strong on the oak and almond on me, but then the almond calms down, and it morphs into mostly a black leather, patchouli, and oak scent. There's a skin musk-like aspect to it, too, that I think could be the bourbon vanilla, but nothing in this reads as sweet on me after several hours of wear, and I usually need some sort of sweet note to get me to appreciate most scents (especially ones with heavier notes like leather or patch). So this ended up not being for me, since the almond didn't stick around, and the bourbon vanilla wasn't a main player, but I'm glad I got to try it.

Story Time at Dark Delicacies
doomsday_disco replied to brwnpaperhag's topic in Retail Exclusive Oils
This starts off very oak-heavy on me, and the oak has this sort of chewy quality on me. Then the incense-soaked parchment and ink joins in, and there's a light lemoniness overlaying everything, but it doesn't read as lemon cookies to me. It's definitely more old library shelves, dusty books, and incense than cookie (I think my skin has run away with the oak and incense notes). It's pleasant, but I was really hoping for more lemon cookies from this one! -
Cologne-y metal sweetened by beeswax and just a bit of a soft, well-worn leather note. It veers into salty aquatic territory at first, but it ends up being mostly cologne-y beeswax. The beeswax helps tame the metal note, which usually becomes to sharp for me to wear. I'm not sure I'd reach for this over other beeswax scents in my collection, but I do think it is nice, and I'm glad I got a chance to try it.

Dewy green leaves colored by Moroccan amber, ginseng, and rooibos. I had this same experience, although on me, it also went through this awkward acrid/savory phase that sometimes happens to me. (I thought was only a thing with certain snow + bergamot or orange + some darker note combos, but I guess this one can be added to that group now, making it hard for me to determine what's going off on me.) So green, unripe banana with an undertone of funk. What is causing the unripe banana? What is causing the funk? 'TIS A MYSTERY!

Homemade blood clot-and-cherry ice cream plopping onto moonlit sand. In the bottle, this reminds me more of cherry candy (perhaps those Lifesaver lollipops with the swirls?) than ice cream. It's intensely cherry, but it is far creamier once it is actually sprayed (and kind of makes me think of red Starbursts). I'm not really getting the blood clot note. I thought it would mean dragon's blood or clove to accompany the cherry (like in the GC scent Blood), but I'm mainly just getting a creamy cherry scent from this. It definitely does not contain dragon's blood. I would never wear a scent like this, but I like it as a room spray. I'm sure it will get a lot of use during the summer months.

Sugared apples, honey booberries, and sweet cream. In the bottle: I can smell all of the notes in the bottle. It's a creamy, sugared apple and blueberry scent. Wet: I get the sugared apple and sweet cream notes first, and then the honeyed blueberry emerges. I am actually surprised I was not hit with a blast of it upon application, as the blueberry note was quite strong in the bottle. I'm not usually fond of berry notes in perfume, and I think the only scent with blueberry in it that I've enjoyed so far is Blueberry Picking. But I adore apple scents, so I really wanted to try this one. It's sweet, but not as sweet as Blue Lollipops or Blueberry Cream Pie. I feel like the sweet cream has been draped over the sugared apple and honeyed blueberries, and it smells lovely. It's almost like one of those swirled Lifesaver lollipops. Almost. But the fruits are definitely sugared and honeyed and not straight-up apple or blueberry candy. Dry: Creamy, sweet apple and blueberry. The scent is softer than before. I am in love with the sweet cream note. Verdict: This is even better than I had imagined! I'm glad I took a chance on this even though I was wary of the blueberry. It's a simple, fun, creamy, sugared fruit scent, and the artwork is adorable. I'm really happy to have a bottle. I can't thank my fairy enough for picking this up for me!

This starts off as sweet opium on me, backed by the lavender and the somewhat funky oudh. Then it becomes more about the lavender and oudh for a while before settling back down into an incense-y opium-dominant scent, this time accompanied by the sweet cola-like labdanum more than any lavender or oudh. The oudh does not stay funky throughout wear, but it is actually the opium that makes this a little too sweet for me -- it's more about the sweet opium incense instead of being a lavender-heavy sleep blend. I'm really glad I got to try it, but I don't think it is something that would help me drift to sleep, especially with that sweet opium and funky oudh opening.

This starts off dominated by the fruit notes (mandarin and mango), accompanied by the sugar cane, but then the ginger and pumpkin join in not long after. The fruit notes are quick to lose their strength, leaving behind a sugared amber warmed by the ginger and the ghost of the mango. I think this is nice, but I wish it had retained the sugary mandarin mango goodness!

This smells like dark chocolate and burnt sugar and smells more like a dark chocolate bar with burnt sugar over time. I'm never able to pick out any resins from this, although I am sure they must be playing some role in the background, like contributing a light smokiness (mayyyybe the copal?). But it is a really nice sugary dark chocolate scent, kind of like 13 September 2013, but without the weirder notes.
-
Strontium is fresh and airy, like a gentle breeze. It smells nice, but it's hard for me to pick out any notes. It gets a little sweeter and heavier over time (I think there's a musk at play here), but it hasn't completely lost its breezy quality.
-
This started off really mossy on me, and had a damp cave sort of vibe going on, but then ended up morphing into a musk dominant scent on me... like a sweet black musk or something? It's sweet and powdery by the end of the day, but there were times it gave me Server Gremlins and Old Demons of the First Class vibes.

Lithium is airy and mineralic and bubbly, but in a different way than Beryllium. I don't really know how to describe it aside from saying that this one is more space-y. Like space and moon rocks and tonic water. Space soda? I really like this one!

This reminds me of something like the iron note from Dwarf (or something like it) mixed with some red musk. It gets more musky on me over time, which my skin tends to do with the darker musk notes. I agree that this is one is more masculine, especially compared to the other periodic table protos.
