in the decant: Piercing and intoxicating; lavender and something that reminds me of lily. on: No one note dominates, like a fresh-picked bouquet: florals over light herbals. Weak throw and staying power.
-
in the decant: Bright - not quite "mint" - and a light white floral. Ah! It's orchid. on: Orchid, softened by rose, with just a hint of musk. Lovely: feminine, youthful and cheerful.
-
in the decant: Cold leather predominates. on: The sandalwood steps up, with tonka and Snake Oil bringing up the rear -but overall it is still leather.

in the decant: Bitter-spicy. on: Much the same; the cinnamon+cassia is too strong for me, with a bitter-pungency that I do not like.

in the decant: Boy, this reminds me of something - why can I never think of what stuff reminds me of!? Is it spirit gum? (only much subdued, of course!) It is a pine-resiny-ness - though there's nothing like that listed in the notes - with the woodiness of frankincense faintly behind. on: Sweetens up a bit, almost skin-musky; very faint throw and staying power.

Snake Oil with ho wood, teak, black musk, and bamboo. in the decant: Fruity-woody, something like snapped branches. on: I guess the bamboo is that green-fruitiness; the spicy vanilla of Snake Oil emerges, gently, on the drydown.
-
in the decant: Minty, like freshly crushed leaves. on: The green tea develops through the mint and - waay in the back - the warmth of Snake Oil rises.

Snake Oil with vetiver, black coconut, vanilla, and opoponax. in the decant: Coconut, and something orangey (? yeah, I know!) on: Mostly coconut, over Snake Oil.

in the decant: Sharp, bitter herbal, almost like a furniture oil. on: A fruity floral, with the Snake Oil emerging beneath.

in the decant: Crisp, bright fruit - smells like pear to me, but it must be apple plus orange. on: The florals emerge to the fore, making this feminine and sophisticated. I do not get any Snake Oil from this one.

The oil is so thick that it takes a moment to ooze down the side of the vial as I invert it to mix! in the decant: Strongly cocoa, over Snake Oil. on: Cocoa and Snake Oil, with a hint of teak, and a bit spicy on the drydown.

Snake Oil with oakmoss, sea moss, and olive leaf. in the decant: Earthy, a bit masculine. Again, the Snake Oil is not particularly evident. on: Mossy-earthy; dark vanilla of Snake Oil develops gradually on drydown. Tried this on hubby and ... He may need a bottle.
-
in the decant: Very fruity, reminiscent of a B&BW lotion. (Not that that's a bad thing!) on: Much the same: bright and cheery. I do not get much Snake Oil from this one.
-
in the decant: Snake Oil and almond. on: Sweet almond. The myrrh comes out on drydown, to be overtaken by almond again - always grounded with Snake Oil. Heady and rich. Love it.
-
In the bottle: Fruity sweet. On: Soft, sweet and gentle; almost reminds be a bit of Annabel Lee, with vanilla. The amber comes out gently on drydown. This one deserves its reputation as a favorite; sadly, throw and staying power are weak.
-
In the bottle: Amber and bit of sweetness. On: Amber and honey, like a lighter Jacob’s Ladder or a darker Et Lux Fuit. Throw and staying power are mild.

This review is for the Resurrected version (and here's hoping she may be resurrected again sometime!) In the bottle: Musks and resins, heady, but almost sugary at the same time. This must be what They mean by “boozy”! On: Just indescribably marvellous. This is the scent that made me realize I adore red musk – already knew that I adore Dragon’s blood, myrrh, and ylang-ylang. It’s a bit heavy at first, and over time settles into a sweet, spicy, sexy scent. Overall it proclaims resins, but each note contributes something. It is similar to Smut and Lust, but sweeter than either of those. Throw and staying power are strong.

So, a couple of months ago, Hubby and I got hooked on the HBO series Rome, thanks to a friend who loaned us the first season DVDs. I had forgotten that I had an imp of this among the horde, but ran across it and gave it a try. Wow! Loved it and immediately bought a bottle. in the bottle: Juniper/cypress and rose. on: Marvellous and complex, despite seeming to consist of two notes: the herbal and the rose. The rose has a bit of spice to her, and the cypress keeps the juniper from being too JUNIPER. I can't quite pick out the chamomile, but I'm sure it's doing something wonderful in there. Throw and lasting power are moderate. Love, love, love this one.

In the bottle: Piercingly herbal, the almost-eucalyptus of the fir sap glides over a mossiness. On: The incense develops, just a bit sweet, riding on herbal crispness. Complex and unique. I love it already, but I need to spend much more time with it to come to know it completely.
-
In the bottle: Fruity-spicy-sweet: tangerine, kumquat, lychee. On: Much the same, with just a hint of florals. Though I'm a peony lover, I can't quite find it here. Smells lovely, and I adore the label – but sadly I do not enjoy wearing fruities.
-
In the bottle: Fir and coldness, with just a hint of green florals. On: Much the same. Something – the white musk? – adds a bit of warmth. I appreciate the aromas of the “cold” scents, but, with very few exceptions, I don’t find myself reaching for them to wear. I’m such a corvids lover that I’m hoping this one grows on me some more. ETA, in Dec 07 (original post is from Feb 07): My! This has matured nicely. The musk has really rounded out, tempered just enough by the fir. Just like a crow all fluffed up against the snow. Lovely!

In the imp: Spicy-sweet with a sharp kick of bay. On: The incense comes to the fore, over the sweetness of honey wine, and the herbal kick of bay.
-
In the imp: Marvellous dusty resins. On: Patchouli, tempered by the black musk, and myrrh, nicely balanced. Similar to Malice, which is a bit sweeter.
-
In the imp: The honey is strong! over a dusty myrrh. On: Honey and myrrh entwined, with perhaps a bit of the florals in the distance. The strong, almost cloying sweetness of the honey dissipates quickly to a warmer sweetness. From the description, I did not expect to love this one, but I do!
