black forest at first: very strong pine, with something darker underneath. very intriguing. on: pine, pine, pine. oh, and i love pine. 1 hour later: i love this! it totally reminds me of decorating for xmas when i was little. wonderful! 2 hours later: mostly pine, but mixed with other dark scents. 3 hours later: much softer, but still a nice mix of a bunch of scents and pine. overall: i wasn't sure i'd like this, since i don't tend to get along with oils with woods in them, but this is a real exception. it brings back nice memories, smells great, and lasts long. i'll be wearing this during xmas.

virgo at first: i bought this for nadine, since it's her sign, but, having looked at the notes, i think i would like it, too. unfortunately, there is something not-so-nice about this; perhaps even a bit masculine. on: incense with some earthy note that i don't like. 1 hour later: almost a bit sweet, but not quite. much better than when first applied. i was actually afraid i would have to wash it off at first. 3 hours later: i can barely smell this now. it's still earthy, but nicely so, and i still smell a tiny bit of incense. 5 hours later: i can only smell this if i really try to. it's earthy and i like it. overall: i think this will only be a once-in-a-while thing for me.

bliss at first: straight-up milk chocolate, just like the kind in hot, melty, chocolate chip cookies. i want to eat this. on: yes, this is delicious. i don't know what else to say but pure milk chocolate. thick and gooey. i'm in love. 1 hour later: still in love... 1.5 hours later: drier, but still delicious. overall: this lasts very, very well. i don't think i will end up wearing it very often, but it's a delicious option for once in a while. i really think this will be nice layered with other scents, since it's pretty much a single note to my nose.

tombstone at first: this is interesting. sweet, but dark, in a dusty sort of way. on: weird. a warm vanilla, and...a bunch of other stuff. these are definitely scents i haven't smelled before. however, there's something i don't like at the end. 1 hour later: hmmm...sweeter, but a very interesting sweet. i'm starting to like it more. actually, it's lovely. 3 hours later: sweet, but with something smoky. i didn't think i'd like this, but i do. the cedar seems to be behaving itself so far. 6.5 hours later: soft, and more sweet than smoky. i like this. there isn't too much going on, but it isn't boring in the least. overall: this is a really odd scent. masculine, but not really. i'm not sure i'll get another imp, but i'll enjoy using this one.

erato at first: the lab included this as an extra. sweet and floral, but almost a bit smoky, too. odd, but in a good way. on: i can smell the sweet pea mostly, with a bunch of other things swirling around it. 1 hour later: i don't like this. it's too biting on me. 2 hours later: soft and pretty. powdery. the sweet pea is the only note i can still pick out, but it's more in the background. 3 hours later: this has the powdery-ness of sweet pea that i sometimes get, but with tons of other notes surrounding it. overall: aside from the short amount of time this was biting on me, i really like this. i'll be keeping my imp, and i'm really glad i got to try it.

crucible of courage at first: the lab tossed this in as an extra, but i had actually ordered it. very herbal. interesting. on: hmmm...i can't really figure this one out. it's almost sweet, but not quite. it's biting, but not too much so. i smell a lot of herbs and flowers. 1 hour later: wow. softer now, but not soft. i really like this. 2 hours later: biting, but not too bad. it's a bit sweet, floral, and herbal. 3 hours later: strong. i can't think of how else to describe it. not offensively biting, but still biting. overall: i definitely like this, and i'll be looking for a chance to use this for its intended purpose.
-
eidolon at first: i smell mostly cedar, which is never good. the lab included this as a freebie, and i wouldn't have bought it for myself because of the woods. on: i can smell the verbene, and bunch of other things. i can smell the cedarwood, too, which is never a good sign. 1 hour later: pickles. 2 hours later: woods are bad on me, and that is all that i smell. 3 hours later: not as offensive as it was, but...still not good. overall: woods and i just don't get along. i'll be getting rid of this one.
-
val sans retour at first: this was a freebie from the lab. mostly watery, but with something else, perhaps a wood. on: wow. lots of different woods. i don't think this will work on me. 1 hour later: slightly warm and sweet, with a hint of wood. 2 hours later: a little sweet, with the woods far in the background, thankfully. 3 hours later: soft woods with something slightly sweet. it's much softer now. overall: this just doesn't feel like me. i'll be getting rid of my imp.

sudha segara at first: the lab included this as a freebie. very clean-smelling. i can't really pick out any of the notes, but it's beautiful. on: sour lemon and something powdery and sweet. i really like this. 1 hour later: still the same sour / sweet / powdery scent. this is lovely. 2 hours later: powdery and gorgeous. i still smell the lemon scent. i love this. 5 hours later: i love this. i looked up the notes, and i guess what i'm mostly smelling is ginger, not lemon. i'm so weird. the ginger is softer now, and the scent is very powdery. overall: i am in love with this. i'm definitely going to get a bottle when i use up my imp.
-
tintagel at first: the lab included this as a freebie, and i probably wouldn't have purchased it on my own. very nice. wet woods and some sort of sweet berry. unfortunately, i don't have high hopes for this one on me because of the woods. on: oh, wow. this is very juicy. i think i can smell the wine and a bit of something sweet. a real winter scent. i think i smell something akin to pine. half an hour later: i smell cinnamon, for some reason. it's still very wet-smelling and very interesting. there's a lot going on in this one. 1 hour later: beautiful. wine, juicy fruits, and a hint of something slightly warm and spicy. i love this. 2 hours later: a little more biting, but still beautiful and wintry. 5 hours later: drier, but still nice. i can't really pick out any individual notes anymore, but it's still a gorgeous winter scent. overall: i love this! i don't know if i'll end up buying a bottle, but i'll probably replace my imp if i run out before the end of this winter.
-
kumiho at first: i smell rose. maybe with some orange rind. interesting. on: wow. definitely sharp. i think i smell lemon, but with something a bit warmer. half an hour later: i smell lots of flowers, but it must just be the white tea and ginger. very light and warm. lovely. 1 hour later: this is just so clean-smelling. this would be great during the summer. 2 hours later: white. clean and fresh. lovely. 5 hours later: still fresh, crisp, and white. overall: i love this. i probably would never have ordered it, so i'm thrilled that this was included in my order. i may end up getting a bottle of this for the summer.
-
haitian lover at first: this was a freebie from the lab. maraschino cheries with a sharp note on top of it. very interesting. on: wow. so thick and juicy. definitely maraschino cherries. i can't pick out anything else. half an hour later: weird. this has turned to plastic on my skin. 1 hour later: yes, i'm still smelling plastic with a hint of something else, maybe licorice not good. 2 hours later: yup. plastic. 5 hours later: now, it smells like some sort of not-so-nice herb. overall: yeah. this is awful on me. it's a goner.
-
bat's blood at first: this was a freebie from the lab. smells like lilacs, i think. very pretty. on: gorgeous. almost sweet, but not quite. definitely lilacs. half an hour later: sweeter now, but still very floral. lovely. 1 hour later: beautiful. all i'm smelling is lilac. 2 hours later: still very nice. 5 hours later: a little powdery, but still fabulous. overall: i can't believe that something so beautiful is linked to vengeance. this is gorgeous, and i may use it for its intended purpose at some point.
-
goona goona at first: flowers, but with an herb that i don't really like the smell of. on: herbal and floral. however, there's something i don't quite like about it. there may be some lemon or other citrus that just doesn't fit. 1 hour later: a bit of a wood-like scent is coming out. i think this might be better in an oil burner than on me. 2 hours later: very light and powdery. mostly citrussy. 3 hours later: much more biting now. interesting. overall: i think i'll try using this when i need to be calmer, since it did seem to relax me quite a bit. it will probably work best in my oil burner.
-
damnation at first: very smoky. uncomfortable. i don't think i'll like this one, especially since i can smell the cedar in it. on: wow. very woodsy. i can smell the vetiver. i like this right now, but don't think i would wear it. 1 hour later: smoky and woodsy. i like this. 2 hours later: just really bad wood on me. 3 hours later: wood. overall: i just can't get along with wood scents, it seems. this one is a no-go.
-
azazel at first: i smell the lemongrass, but everything else is a blur. the lab included this as an extra. on: wow! lemongrass and lavender. there are other things that make the scent fuller. this is wonderful. 1 hour later: lemongrass, plus some herbs and something a tad sweet. this is a very beautiful, if confusing, scent. 2 hours later: this is going a bit darker. i think i'm smelling the sage and bay more now. still very interesting. 3 hours later: hmmm...almost like maple syrup now. overall: i like the smell of this, but not on me. if it doesn't work in my oil burner, i'll be getting rid of it.
-
allegory at first: this was a freebie from the lab. i smell cedar, with something else. cedar isn't good on me, so i wouldn't have ever bought this for myself. on: very strong and masculine. i can smell the orange, but mostly get juniper and cedar. 1 hour later: very sweet now, which is nice. however, it still isn't a good scent for me. 2 hours later: very odd. it's even sweeter. i wonder if that's the juniper or the orange changing. it's way nicer now, but i still get an odd scent, which is most likely due to the cedar, the civet, or a combination of the two. 3 hours later: still sweety, woodsy, and masculine. overall: i'm glad i got to try this, but it is so far from being me that it isn't even funny.

experiment #6 at first: sweet, but with an edge. maybe something a bit smoky. maybe a bit of wood. on: orange and some sort of wood? kind of odd. i'm not sure i like it. 1 hour later: weird. very sweet, smoky wood. 2 hours later: still the same woody sweetness, but with something else. i think i smell anise or something else. sassafras? 2.5 hours later: still that slight oddness of this scent. overall: this is a very odd scent, but i like it. i wish i knew the actual notes in this, since there are some unfamiliar ones that i really like in it.
-
experiment #5 at first: very sweet. like lotus, but much drier. very pretty and white. on: very sweet. i can't pick out the notes, but i think there might be some amber and a watery floral. 1 hour later: the slightest hint of something citrussy. sweet, possibly with some wood or tobacco. 2 hours later: heavy and sweet. 2.5 hours later: sweet and heavy still. this is really warm and full. overall: this is really nice. i love the heavy, warm, full scent of this scent. beth is fabulous.

harlot at first: the lab tossed this in as an extra with my order. i wouldn't have bought this for myself, since i tend to have problems with cinnamon. when i smell this, though, all i smell is a bouquet of different roses. very beautiful. on: very beautiful. i'm surprised how sensual this is. i smell mostly rose, but with the tiniest hint of spice. half an hour later: a gorgeous bouquet of different roses. the cinnamon is soft, just barely enough to notice it. 1 hour later: more powdery. i really like this. 2 hours later: i still like this. roses and a tiny bit of cinnamon. very sexy. overall: i really like this one. i'm really glad the lab tossed this in with my order.
-
hakkotsu at first: this was a freebie from the lab. floral, and very dry. on: i think i'm just smelling sandalwood and something else, maybe the bergamot. half an hour later: i can smell the lily more now, but the sandalwood is going weird on me. 1 hour later: yup. slightly pickly. woods are evil on me. 2 hours later: all i smell is sandalwood-gone-wrong. overall: damn you, sandalwood! this one's a no-go.
-
glasya at first: the lab included this as a freebie in my order. i can't really pick out the notes in this one. there's a lot going on. on: sweet, but herbal. 1 hour later: odd. sweet and a bit smoky. i don't think i like this. 2 hours later: much, much lighter and softer. a bit powdery. i may smell some musk. i still don't like it, but it's much better now. 4.5 hours later: weird. sweet, but soapy. overall: this is just not for me. i think i'm going to go ahead and blame it on the red patchouli.

Lush to BPAL scent comparisons (BNever included too)
grrrlennyl replied to Vanilla's topic in Recommendations
does anyone know of any bpal that smells like butterball? it has cocoa butter, musk, and ylang ylang, as well as some other "perfume". -
feu follet at first: the lab included this as an extra. i smell heliotrope, with a touch of soft rose and cloying jasmine. wonderful. on: just flowers. very nice, but i'm not sure if it's me. 1 hour later: still strong. however, it is making my nose itch a little. 5 hours later: this smells a bit like pencils shavings now, but is still mostly floral. 6.5 hours later: powdery now, but not much else. a bit sweet and floral. overall: not impressed. i'm glad i got to try this, since it's been discontinued, but it just isn't for me.
