experiment #4 at first: in an amber bottle. tobacco? maybe with a bit of fruit and flowers. interesting. on: a gorgeous floral. there may be a touch of tobacco, too. 1 hour later: this is such an interesting scent. i think i might smell a warm spice and some fruit, too. very nice. 2 hours later: a sweet floral now. i think i smell amber, but can't pick out the other notes. 4 hours later: much softer. a very light amber, with some other notes in the background. i might smell lotus. overall: this is really a nice scent. i'm glad it develops the way it does.

experiment #3 at first: in an amber bottle. violets! very smooth, soft violets. this is beautiful. on: beautiful. i love violets and that's pretty much all i smell. 1 hour later: still violets. gorgeous, sweet, powdery violets. 2 hours later: yay for violets! 4 hours later: super powdery! i love this. it still smells like violets. overall: well, i love violets, so i definitely like this one a lot.

experiment #2 at first: this came in a blue bottle. grapefruit, and maybe some other citrus. very light. on: orange! grapefruit! there may be other citrus fruits in there, too. great. 1 hour later: joyous! for a citrus oil, this is still really strong. 2 hours later: a little sweeter, but lemon or some other citrus that's been mixed with honey in a cup of hot water. fabulous. 4 hours later: this is still sweet and almost a bit musky. the citrus is still there, but not in the forefront. overall: love it! i love citrus scents. this one is so refreshing. i love how the sweetness comes out and makes the citrus notes more complex. a great scent!

experiment #1 at first: this blend came in a blue bottle. it's sweet, in a fruity way, but i can't figure out which fruit. maybe cherry. very interesting. on: not fruity anymore. something sweet, maybe along the lines of amber. also a bit heavy in a smoky way. 1 hour later: very strong. very sweet and heavy. 2 hours later: lovely. i'm wondering if i smell a bit of currant. smooth and a bit sweet. wonderful. 4 hours later: a fruity sweetness. lovely. overall: even though i can't really pick out the individual notes, i really like this one.

at first: wow. wine, flowers, and maybe some apple. wonderful. on: very fruity. reminds me of samhain, but only the fruit from it. very fun. 4 hours later: still mostly fruity, but with a bit of floral thrown in. still nice. 6 hours later: lighter, but still nice. it's much spicier now, and a bit sweeter. overall: i'm not sure about this one. it isn't my favorite fall oil or my favorite lunar blend. it's nice, though. i may end up using it in a salt scrub or in my oil burner instead of as a perfume.

blood amber at first: i'm glad the lab threw this in with my order, since i've been interested in trying it out. i don't really smell anything, perhaps, maybe, i hint of dragon's blood. on: very nice. the warm of amber and the lightness (at least on me) of dragon's blood. 1 hour later: a bit biting now, and almost floral. weird. i expected this to stay light and sweet on me. 2 hours later: i can smell the amber again. i think my chemistry is just a bit off at this time of the month. 5 hours later: it's a tiny bit powdery now, but still very nice. sweet, but mot oppresively so. i like this. 13 hours later: the slightest hint of amber is still there. overall: nice. i wouldn't buy it again, but i'm glad i have it. it's a nice, simple, sweet scent.

samhain 2004 at first: sweet, spicy, and foody with a definite whiff of black patchouli. great. on: very nice. a warm and spicy fall blend. i think i smell a bit of pumpkin and maybe someting like pine. gorgeous. 1 hour later: very floral, light, and fruity. gorgeous. 2 hours later: still very autumnal. fruity and spices, but not too heavy or foody. 3 hours later: this lasts really well. a perfect fall scent. overall: i'm so glad i got a bottle of this. it's really beautiful. it somehow avoids being too sweet or too foody, while still smelling like autumn.

at first: maple syrup with brown sugar. unbelievably sweet and delicious-smelling. on: definitely maple syrup and brown sugar. wonderful! 1 hour later: still unreal. it's so sweet and lovely. it still smells wet, like there's some sticky syrup on my skin. 2 hours later: still really strong. i'm getting a hint of fruit, but it's still the same, sticky syrup scent. 3 hours later: still going strong. overall: i'm glad i got a bottle of this. it will really come in handy when i need a sugar fix. it didn't change much on my skin and lasted really well.

at first: hmmm...all i smell is sweet flowers. nice, but not what i expected. on: very sweet. a bit like candy and chocolate with a lot of flowers. very beautiful. 1 hour later: definitely foody. i'm smelling sugar, chocolate, and some sort of flowers. 2 hours later: i really like this. it smells mostly like fruit now, but it is very nice. 3 hours later: much lighter, but it's mostly like sugar and flowers. overall: very different and nice. i'm glad i got a bottle of this. i like how it's foody and floral.

at first: very odd. flowers, but...an odd type of incense. i'm not sure if i'll like this one. on: i think of yellow and white when i smell this. very floral, but with a heavy sweetness to it. i think i smell lily and a lot of other flowers. 1 hour later: more rosy, and dusty. almost like flowers that are being dried. lovely and peaceful. 2 hours later: still beautiful and calming. it's mostly that same dusty floral, but with a hint of sweetness. 3 hours later: much lighter, but still nice. overall: i'm glad a grabbed a bottle of this. i like how the sweetness comes and goes. i'm not always a huge fan of florals, but the dustiness of this agrees with me. lovely.

calliope - the fair voiced at first: i'm hoping this will help me with nanowrimo this year. i actually ordered it, but the lab threw it in as an extra before i got that order. a sweet, but tart, floral. very nice. on: odd, but nice. mostly floral, but with something else. possibly herbal. 1 hour later: sweeter now and more fruity. still nice. 3 hours later: i think the "something else" i smelled before was a type of wood, but i'm still not sure. luckily, it isn't getting weird on me. it's much lighter, but still nice. 8 hours later: just the slightest hint of a full, watery, sweet fruit. nice. overall: this scent really isn't me, but it helped me get a bit of writing done for work, so i'm glad that i have it. i think i'll use it more as a voodoo oil than as a perfume.

why? is that hard to picture?

i may dress up as a stepford wife, but i'm not sure. any suggestions on what oils might go with that costume? (so long as they haven't been swapped, i have the oils on this review page.) of course, i'd prefer to wear samhain, but i have the feeling i won't get it until monday. sigh...

snow white at first: wow. very white. very watery flowers and something sweet. maybe coconut. very soft. on: this is so beautiful and soft. sweet, powdery, watery, floral. half an hour later: beautiful. i don't know what else to say. 1 hour later: unreal. there's almost a bit of fruit that i couldn't pick out before. i can't pick out a single note, but it's gorgeous. 4 hours later: still wonderful. overall: i'm in love. this is what i wish snow smelled like. a definite keeper.

hi! 10ml is always better, silly. hehe... here's some info on how long a 5ml lasts (both shelf life and how long it takes someone to use it up...) http://www.bpal.org/index.php?showtopic=5007

machu picchu Sweet tropical fruits burst through deep, wet rainforest boughs, enormous steamy blossoms, over thin mountaintop breezes, mingled with the soft, rich golden scent of Peruvian amber. at first: this was a freebie from the lab. all i'm getting is flowers and maybe some woods. on: wow. very fruity. i think i'm smelling starfruit. yummy. 1 hour later: this is really nice. i think i smell some amber. it's a bit powdery, but not too much. mostly very damp flowers and amber. lovely. 3 hours later: this is much lighter now. mostly powdery, but still pretty consistent. overall: i don't think i would have picked this out for myself, but it's great. very different from the other oils i have. i really like it.

neo-tokyo at first: a watery floral and...soap? interesting and light. on: definitely floral, but with something sharp underneath. very different. 4.5 hours later: a little soapy and biting. i'm not sure if i'll end up liking this. 6.5 hours later: lighter and not as biting. nice, but not much more. overall: i like it, but not enough to keep it.
-
spectre at first: this was a freebie from the lab. it's beautiful. floral, but a bit sweet, and very soft. i really like it. on: gorgeous! this is beautiful. watery flowers. very sweet, too. 1 hour later: harsher now. more soapy. 5.5 hours later: i keep getting whiffs of this, and it a wonderful, sweet, watery floral. however, when i smell my wrists, i get that harsh soapy scent. overall: i guess the trick, for me, with this one is not to sniff my wrists. the throw of this scent is quite nice. i'll be keeping my imp, but probably won't get another.
-
it should be fine. i think the lab just gets the total amount of money; they don't actually see where the money came from, as far as bank account, paypal account, credit cards go.

chaos theory lxxx at first: holy sweetness! this smells like the syrup that maraschino cherries are in. on: maraschino cherries and flowers. wonderful. 1 hour later: this has faded to a barely-there powdery scent. 2 hours later: a little sweet and very powdery. nice. 5 hours later: much lighter, but still nice. overall: i really like this one. i'm glad i got to try and imp. Previously reviewed by xoe.

chaos theory xcix at first: an intense pine. on: i think i'm getting a lot of pine, but with something else...possibly cinnamon. 1 hour later: this smells a lot like chlorine on me. 2 hours later: now, i'm getting a bit of a pickle scent. overall: i think that the oil itself was ok, but my skin just messed it up.
-
nephilim at first: beth included this as an extra, and it's someting i probably wouldn't have chosen to buy it. it is incredibly complex. i can smell spices and herbs, and can pick out the black patchouli, too. it is a bit intense, though; kind of a burning scent. on: biting and pungent. pine and...something. weird, in a not-so-good way. 1 hour later: ewww...i don't like this. i think i smell cedar os some other wood that turns to pickle on me. 2 hours later: this is just too overpowering for me. 5 hours later: it's a lot lighter, but still awful. overall: this was just ridiculously bad on me. i'll be getting rid of my imp.
-
old amsterdam at first: this was a free imp from the lab. hmmm...this reminds me of a nondescript bouqet. not exotic or interesting, but nice. on: fresh-cut flowers. very simple and pretty. 1 hour later: very nice. still a bunch of flowers. 2 hours later: i really like this. a touch powdery, but still flowers. 5 hours later: a lot lighter, but still pretty. overall: did i mention that this is pretty? depending on how much i wear this, i may end up getting a bottle of this.
-
masabakes at first: incensy, but a bit bitter, too. interesting. i'm not sure i'm going to like this one. on: pretty. fruity, but with something almost powdery to it. i like this. 1 hour later: interesting. this is very dark, but a bit powdery. it's much lighter than when first applied. 3 hours later: sweeter. thick. very nice. overall: i'm really happy with this one. it's nice, dark, and thick.

rakshasa This haunting, exotic scent is named in honor of the shapeshifting demons from Hindu mythology. Sandalwood with rose and patchouli. at first: this was a freebie imp from the lab. i smell something along the lines of orange, i think. it's hard to pin down. it's pretty earthy. on: pretty. almost smells citrussy. i also smell the rose. i really like this one. 1 hour later: this is going a bit pickly on me. i wonder if it's the sandalwood. 3 hours later: a soapy floral. i think all i smell is rose. 5 hours later: this is turning to pickle on me. overall: i really wanted to like this one, but it isn't working on me. it's a swap.
