    L'Estate

The best part of this scent is when it has been on my skin for 2+ hours - it's sweet amber and musk. All the in-between stages are too dry and floral for me. In the bottle and wet on my skin there is a sharp sourness to the scent, a little while later it becomes almost like dryer sheets Not my dream scent, still nice as I am a summer baby and will keep the bottle I have.

    Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht

This is very much a sophisticated, sexier 'Creepy' in the final dry down stage. This one is dolled up, ready for the show, but I'd rather have the plain old carmel apple from the cart outside of the Grindhouse. I love the unsophisticatedness of Creepy, carmel and apples, that's all I require, sorry Agrat-Bat-Mahlaht!

What should I expect at Will-Call?

Hasn't been posted yet - they're deciding on a theme

The Maltese Cross of Sanctus Germanus

At first this was orange, and only orange. As it dried down it was floral Not so much a fan of the floral persuasion.

    Bezoar

Cardamom SN, seriously, that's the one note I smell. The other woody notes must make it have that sort of dry feeling, but their actual scent is not there. I love this because I love cardamom As it dries it gets a bit sweeter, but it's still very much cardamom.

    Hand of Glory

This is a complete morpher for me - out of the vial and onto my skin it's pungent, black pepper and saltpeter. Ick. After about 2 hours I started smelling this incredibly sweet smell and wondered WHERE it was coming from. Apparently it was the Hand of Glory I applied earlier. Strange, it smelled like Honey SN. Odd when there isn't any honey in it at all

    Inez

Wow. I know this scent. It's so rare, so familiar, quite lovely. Dare I say it? Storyville? When I apply the two, Inez is less rich, less full-bodied than Storyville. Inez is also a lighter scent in the wet stage... Storyville has a sharpness to it that I would have never picked up on if I wasn't comparing something side-by-side with it. There is almost zero difference between Inez and Storyville in the drydown stage on my skin. I wore Inez in my Clocket today and thought I was wearing Storyville. Inez is a scent for those that love Storyville and Wezwanie/Hold - the common notes are unmistakable. Love x 1million. Must stock up.

    Plunder

This is very heavy on the cinnamon and cassia- I'm surprised it's not giving me a rash! Oh how I wanted to smell the nutmeg. Plunder reminds me of a box of Christmas decorations my mom had when I was little - like one that had some long lost potpourri or something in it.

    Defututa

This scent smells like an olive tree intertwined with jasmine, on fire. The smoke note from the vanilla is unmistakable. Definitely a unique scent, just not one for me!

    Fascinum

Soapy? But why? There don't seem to be any offending possible soap notes, so why must it be soap on my skin.... Spicey soap. Now, this is weird, it reminds me of when I was in pre-school which was in an old church. Maybe the wood notes are surfacing. Slowly the soap goes away which is good. Upon drydown the soap is pretty much gone and now I'm getting wood + playdough that's probably why it's reminding me of preschool. Still a slightly odd scent... I guess I could keep this one around for my husband to test, maybe it'd smell better on him.

    Mary Read

I was hoping to smell more of the aged patchouli and sarsaparilla, but all I'm getting is a salty sea air scent. It would be good for people that like that sorta scent, however I do not It does fit nicely with the pirate theme scents.

    Kill-Devil

Sugar cane, molasses, oak wood, and honey. I would describe this as O meets Sugar Skull and then scares the fruits away. I love the Sugar Skull side of the equation, the sweet syrupy smell, but unfortunately honey (and thus O) are not favorites of mine. Upon drydown the honey note that smells like stale sex on my skin vanishes some, and the more floral note of honey comes out. I don't get the oak wood, but the rest of the notes are definitely present. This is a sweet, semi-foody blend that would be great for those that like O, or BPAL's honey note in general. Update - after having this one on for about an hour, it turns into an awesome scent on me, the honey fades away and it's almost straight up molasses and sugar.

    Screeching Parrot

GRAPEFRUIT - that's all I smell! Grapefruit soda maybe since it has some fizziness to it. Unfortunately, not a fan of grapefruit.

    Te Po

Almond & Vodka, that's all I'm getting in Te Po! It's got a great fizzy feel to it, but overall way too boozy for me. I always worry with the boozy notes, and this one confirmed my doubts. I suspect that without the almond liquor this could work for me, but as it is, it doesn't

    Tiki Queen

In the imp, Tiki Queen is very much sweet tarts + tropical florals. When I put it on, and in the drydown phase, it's straight up Monoi de Tahiti oil. I used to have a full bottle of the oil that my mom got for me from Tahiti (go figure!) and although the oil had a lovely consistency, I didn't particular care for the scent. It's almost like dust... I don't know how better to explain it, but not really for me.

    Tiki King

Strangely enough, I don't get much coconut here... Dare I say I don't smell it at all? Maybe my nose has selective smell. The dark musk and lemon blossom are dominant. It reminds me of Haunted with an extra charge of lemon and something dusty and vintage (guessing this is the ironwood bark). Almost 30 min later and still no coconut. Although it's a nice scent, I much prefer Haunted. Sorry Tiki King!

What do bottles and labels look like?

ALL The Phoenix labels are awesome!!! I just got Hony Mone yesterday and the label is cute - but the scent does hate me

What do bottles and labels look like?

I would think the bottle art on Long Night Moon would be like the BPTP shirt? I know Beaver Moon wasn't quite identical, but they are generally the same, or similar.

    Wezwanie / Hold

Like most everyone else, I also get a hint of "Storyville"ness in the wet stage, but Wezwanie / Hold is more buttery to my nose - I don't know which note is causing it, but it's the note missing or subdued in Storyville. In the drydown stages it's less like Storyville.. It's like an expensive cookie in a lush bakery. ETA: The one note I was scared of is honey as is usually turns to blech on my skin. Not in this blend though

    Crypt Queen

I'm a simple girl who is not very good with words... Crypt Queen is sweet, almost rotten, but also very dark. I get a great fruit smell from the raspberry and pomegranate, and then a stale aged darkness creeps over the sweetness. It's a bit woodsy, probably the patchouli... It almost smells like pencil shavings on me, but because I'm odd, I really like that smell!! Most of the notes are on my no-no list, but for some reason they all blend together so well. Truly a scent to be cherished.

    The Queen's Salon

Got this one in the sniffy circle also - This blend sort of reminds me of a more floral version of The Unheavenly City in that it has some creaminess to it. There's a powder note with the flowers that reminds me of a powder box that I would find in a older ladies bathroom. Possibly some old floral perfumes. It's ok, not my cup of tea

    Door 13

Got this in a sniffy circle - Uhm, CK1? Is that you? I keep thinking of the man in the office that douses himself in CK1 - yuck! I admit, I owned the scent, but after everyone was wearing it, it got old real fast! It's definitely citrus and ozone - very much a men's cologne scent. The dry down is more tolerable, less CK1, but still not a scent I would actively search for... My wallet is screaming for joy FYI

    Thirteen (13): July 2007

Bizarre! This is not at ALL cocoa on me. I was bummed at first, but the drydown is like no other BPAL I have smelled before.. super sweet, but no trace of chocolate, almost marshmallowy.. and powdered sugar? Well, whatever is does, I like it and need more!

    Aziraphale

Whew, very much Cathedral-esque, but with a touch of masculinity - in other words, not just the church. I'm not a fan of the dusky wood scents and I was definitely hoping for a more musky scent from this, but on me it's ALLLL dusky woods and old paper.

    Crowley

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that this scent is......SPANKED REVISITED Seriously. You might not get it in the first couple stages, but the dry down is almost identical to Spanked! Which makes me very happy. I was a bit frightened off by the red patchouli, but I am so glad I didn't wash it off! At first it is a hot, spicey scent and the drydown is more leather and sweetness.. Perfect, I can see multiple bottles in my future.
