But Men Loved Darkness Rather Than Light

ITI: It wreaks, in a positive way, of patchouli and myrrh. I can smell them when I pick up the imp without opening anything. When I open it, it's much sweeter from the vanilla and pimento berry, but I can also detect the subtlety of the saffron. Wet: Myrrh, vanilla, pimento berry, hints of ginger and clove under a veil of patchouli swirl together to create an intoxicating scent. Dry: Myrrh, labdanum, patchouli, hints of ginger and clove, and a lightly floral undertone. It fits the darkness aspect of this scent, but it isn't a frightening darkness...it's comforting and secure.

    Block Buster

In the Imp (ITI): Cinnamon and clove - strong and delicious! Wet: The cinnamon has calmed down a touch, but now the clove and mulling spices with touches of apple come to the forefront. This reminds me of the holidays a bit. Dry: Clove, mulling spices, cinnamon and delightful Christmas joy. I think a bottle of this is in order, especially for the holiday season.

    Mania

In the Imp (ITI): Super sweet - the strawberry leaf is really just strawberry with a touch of green. There is something that smells like cherry, but I don't get tart grapefruit at all. Granted, the red musk might be what I'm smelling here. Wet: It smells like fake strawberry and sweetened grapefruit with a little musk. It is a little young on me. Dry: It smells like strawberry soap, but not the harsh, overly sterile kind, but a moisturizing soap variety, like made out of goat's milk. The musk is still rather strong and there is just the lightest touch of something more acidic from the grapefruit. It's much prettier when dried.

    Kitsune-Tsuki

In the Imp (ITI): Beautiful plum and daffodil with a darker floral, the orchid, underneath. Wet: It's rather strong at this point as the plum and orchid combined are stealing the show and overwhelming my nostrils a little. Dry: It's light and a little powdery with the musk, plum, and daffodil being the longer-lasting notes.

    Needlework

ITI: It's a bit of a soapy and astringent floral scent. I can make out the wisteria and delphinium with a mid note of oolong tea, but everything else is smothered by the floral top notes. Wet: It's much more tame when applied to my skin. The lavender and oolong become dominant while the other florals take a back seat for now. There is a little bit of sheer, skin musk thrown into the mix as well. Dry: It's musky and soft - lavender, lilac, fresh tea leaves and musk. I like this significantly more when dried.

    Common Jezebel

ITI: Of, this is refreshingly pleasant with its lemon sugar, currant, and apricot. Wet: Wow, the apricot here is such a lush, delicious note. When I inhale deeper, the lemon sugar and the vetiver become apparent, followed by the currant as it dries. It's lovely. Dry: It's become more complex with the apricot and currant both vying for the top note. The vetiver adds considerable depth and the lemon sugar keeps the scent from doing too dark. This is simply brilliant and I think I need to find a bottle of this.

    Paper Kite

Coconut, white sugar, angelica, and black pepper. ITI: Toasted sugar and tropical coconut sunscreen. It smells like a fabulous Hawaiian vacation. Wet: White most of the notes remain the same, the sugar becomes a little darker and there is more depth with the addition of black pepper. It now reminds me of the wings of the namesaked butterfly. Dry: Coconut suntan lotion, like Hawaiian Tropics and burnt sugar. The pepper is gone once dry, so this is back to reminding me of a tropical summer vacation.

    Kabuki

In the Imp (ITI): Cherry cough syrup, eww. Wet: I still get cherry cough syrup, but there is the tiniest bit of musk. Dry: This doesn't last too long, honestly. After 6 hours of dry time, I just get red musk.

    Rage

Black amber erupting with a dark volcanic surge of fiery dragon's blood and a burst of melati, rose geranium, mandarin and black currant. In the Imp (ITI): I get dragon's blood first, followed by the darkest amber I've smelled lately, and then rose geranium Wet: On my skin, dragon's blood and amber are still prominent but I get tones mandarin that surge over the rose geranium. Dry: Darkly simmering in drangon's blood and velvety black amber.

    Lolita

In the Imp (ITI): That’s rather pretty. I get lemon verbena and orange blossom. It strikes me as innocent initially but the verbena makes it a little less innocent. Wet: Honeysuckle and heliotrope are dominant, followed by orange blossoms and a touch of citrus from the verbena. It starts getting a little soapy as it begins to dry down. Dry: It’s faint and lovely once dried - honeysuckle and orange blossom.

    Fallen

In the Imp (ITI): Hmm, that's an interesting blend. Violet and other heady florals are dominant, but I can pick up musk, sandalwood, and a touch of amber. Wet: The amber and sandalwood are a bit stronger on my skin, but the violet and florals still try to steal the show. Dry: After a few hours, violet, florals, vetiver, and sandalwood are all that faintly remain. I wish this had more staying power, but the throw when first applied is excellent.

    Yule

ITI: Ohh, that's pleasantly woodsy. The frankincense and myrrh are rather noticeable, followed by thyme, a touch of juniper, and a smidge of holly. Wet: Gosh, this is gorgeous! I'm loving the juniper and hemlock, which have both stepped up to rival the woodsy resins - myrrh and frankincense There is an undertone of sweet berries and just a blush of rose. Dry: It doesn't have the staying power that some of my other scents do. I can still detect some impressions of rose, myrrh, and juniper, but it is super faint. I'm kicking myself that I only have an imp of this. Ah well.

    Woods in Winter

ITI: It smells like lotus, which smells like bubblegum to me. However, this gum is lightly scented in that pink bubblegum flavor. When I inhale deeply, I finally get lovely hemlock and piercing juniper. Wet: Juicy berries, juniper, cold but softly fallen snow, and dashes of hemlock. Lovely! Dry: The snow aspect has dried to something powdery, but I still get juniper and hemlock notes, which makes me weight the scent as more positive than negative.

    The Knave of Hearts

In the Imp (ITI): Juicy blackberries and red, thick roses. There is a distinct warm pastry quality to this as well. Wet: Now, it’s candied blackberries in a vanilla-infused tart (heavy on the cream) with just a hint of roses, as if in a vase in the middle of a table. Dry: I get very little rose once dried. The scent smells like fresh pie straight from the oven, but the kind of pie you can tell you’ll be working off for weeks. There is a hint of berry, but it is very much cooked currants.

    Imp

In the Imp (ITI): Musky peach with an overtone of patchouli. It does smell initially innocent, but then the devilish quality of the patchouli takes over. Wet: Very clearly patchouli and peach with somewhat overwhelming musk. Dry: The peach is smelling a bit like peach cider with earthy spiciness from the patchouli. It's interesting to say the least.

    Seraglio

In the Imp (ITI): Exotically delicious Neroli, sandalwood, fresh orange peel and sweet almond milk. Wet: Still beautiful but the dominant notes have shifted to the almond and the orange peel with hints of rose, clove, and nutmeg. Dry: It's lovely when dried. Light neroli paired with Bulgarian rose on a bed of clove and nutmeg. Wow!

    Olokun

In the Imp (ITI): It smells like juicy lotus, bubblegum, and grass. Is this even the same scent? Wow, this is totally not what I expected. Wet: This is very much the same as in the imp, but I get the impression every so slightly of the ocean – something dark and somewhat briney. However, this is still wonderful on. *Finger’s crossed for dry-down* Dry: It’s powdery, slightly musky, and just a touch of grassy brine, but it’s really rather pleasant.
  18. (2009 version) ITI: Oh, that's a rather bright and clean scent. I get wonderfully tart lemon with yuzu and slightly soapy floral, which is usually freesia for me. It's still pleasant despite the soapiness. Wet: Lemon, ripe yuzu, freesia, thickly sweet massoia; hints of bergamot add to the scent's complexity. Dry: It's much more reminiscent of a Glade plug-in now with strong freesia and jasmine with swells of lemon and mild bergamot. It is strong enough to make me sneeze.

    Ded Moroz

ITI: It’s an interesting scent. I get bois du rose, a touch of light, white sage, a cool and sweet note that must be the snow, and subtle hints of amber. Wet: It’s cold, sweet, and powdery on my skin. The bois du rose is delicately balanced with the white sage, the tree moss, light teak, amber, and snow. It’s lovely! Dry: It’s soft and comforting, like freshly laundered clothing. The ambers lend warmth while the snow and teak add that gentle scent that is indulgent and comforting at the same time.

    On Darkness

ITI: deep incense, sweet rose geranium, luscious amber with subtle undertones of poppy. It’s warm, exotic, and complex. Wet: It’s a little sharper with the rose geranium and lavender at the start, but as I inhale, it warms up with the incense, benzoin, and thick amber. There is still a touch of poppy, which adds to the complexity. Dry: I tested this last morning and evening but didn’t review it. I still have some scent left over on my wrist - so we are looking at 18 hours that this has stayed sniffable on my skin. Reapplied, the black incense and amber are thick and sultry while they lightly veil the poppy and hints of rose geranium. It’s gorgeous!

    The Deep Ones

In the Imp (ITI): Aquatic toilet cleaner and brine. Ick. Wet: I get something that smells sweeter and a bit muskier, which might be the coral. However, the brine and aquatic are intense. Dry: Okay, it is less offensive as it dries. I get a pleasant aquatic with lots of brine and that oddly sweet and musky note. It's borderline pleasant.

    Hell's Belle

In the Imp (ITI): Strong mandarin with a little musk and nutmeg perhaps. Wet: Ooh, the mandarin is sweetly spiced - cinnamon and nutmeg I think -on my skin. The musk sits deliciously under the mandarin and rounds everything out. Dry: The scent now has the quality of powdery musk and spice with only a hint of dried mandarin.

    Nyx

In the Imp (ITI): Strong jasmine, like hit-you-in-the-face jasmine, and myrrh. Mind so, I like jasmine, so this isn’t a bad start to the scent. Wet: Again, thick jasmine, some myrrh, and just the impression of rose. Dry: Jasmine and rose, but the myrrh has died down a bit. It’s a womanly scent.

    Blood Countess

In the Imp (ITI): Rose, opium, berries, lilac, and plum. It's yummy while still being complex enough to be worn by an adult. Wet: Gardenia, crushed roses, plum, and artificial berries. It's now bad, actually. Dry: Mmm, now it smells like berried fall potpourri The plum is evident while the berries smell dried rather than wet and artificial (thank you, BPAL!). The rose and opium meld wonderfully together to form a complicated and womanly scent that I would love to wear again.

    Coyote

In the Imp (ITI): Warm amber and musk, almost to the point of marzipan, followed by just a hint of light dusk and dried grass. Wet: It's identical to the imp, which is nice. I'm starting to like the combination of amber and musk on me. As it starts to dry, I get some woods notes. Dry: After a shower, there isn't anything left. On second dry-down, it smells like faint, dried grasses, musk, and the impression of amber.
