Sweet scents, sugar notes & things that smell like candy
Electra replied to voila's topic in Recommendations
Another vote for Chimera. It's *very* sweet. Too sweet for me, unfortunately. -
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet, as it's the one imp out of my first order that I keep reaching for. It's a lovely summer scent. Usually I get a clear, sharp-fresh citrus-ginger, which sadly doesn't last very long (but smells so good I keep on reapplying). Today for the first time (maybe because it's my time of the month) I'm getting a sugary-tea scent with superb lasting power. I prefer the citrus-ginger scent, but this variation is nice too.

Holy crap! This smells exactly like my uncle. No, I mean it. EXACTLY. It's kind of creeping me out, actually! It smells like a combination of cigarettes and whatever fruity gum he chews to try to fool people into thinking he didn't sneak a smoke. Doesn't sound like a nice scent, but it's actually quite pleasant. I can't wear it, though. I keep looking around for him =P.

Allergy Questions, Allergies and other reactions to oils
Electra replied to friendthegirl's topic in BPAL FAQs
[Merged with another topic and accidentally deleted the title, but this post was referring to a reaction to Midnight. Oops. ~Morrighana] It hasn't caused a rash on my skin the way I read that some oils (ex. cinnamon) do on some people, but my eyes and nose are burning. Has this happened to anyone else with this or any other BPAL? -
BPAL for headaches, pain, colds, seizures, sickness, illnesses...

I've been wondering about this as well. I get screaming migraines that feel like someone's driving a railroad spike through my head, and I'd really prefer not to medicate myself all the time. So (not to hijack your thread) I'd also be interested to hear if anyone's had any luck with specific blends and migraines. -
Aptly named. What an interesting scent. I get pine and pencil shavings. I wouldn't wear it, but I certainly don't dislike it.

This is not going to be a popular opinion, but one thing that has been beaten into my head over and over again is to NEVER wear fragrance to a job interview. What smells delightful to you might be horrific to your interviewer (or they could have a fragrance sensitivity, or be allergic to one of the oils, or prone to migraines, or...) and it could prejudice them against you. It would be terrible not to get a job because of the fragrance that you chose to wear. That said, if you feel naked without a fragrance (which I do), wear something as light and inoffensive as possible. Old Shanghai and Kumiho would be good picks. Embalming Fluid, which I haven't smelled, would probably also be appropriate. I would stick to something that smells light and clean - nothing overly floral, nothing spicy, nothing very sweet or fruity. Boring, but safe.

I'm definitely getting cardamom from this. On me this is a soft, clean spicy smell - there's something "green" about the spices, if that makes sense. "Clean spice" doesn't make a lot of sense in itself, actually, but it's the same way I felt about BCBG Sexy. I agree with the reviewer who said that on her it was more of a summer scent than a winter one - this is clean and fresh enough that it's definitely a hot-weather scent on me. Nice. I'm not in love with it, but it's growing on me. Also very nice when layered with O - almost overwhelmed by the honey, but rounds it out nicely. EDIT: How strange. Tried it again the other night and absolutely got the rootbeer scent that Andrabell mentions in her review. ADDED Nov. 28: So, review #2 of this scent for me. I have just rediscovered (Old) Morocco after ignoring it for months. Oh my. Oh lord. This is GOOD stuff. How could I possibly have neglected it for so long? I quite liked it when I got it over the summer (in my first-ever order, actually!), but I got so caught up with trying a million new scents - and then with the glory that is Samhain - that I just forgot about it. Sweet baby Jesus. I need a 10 mL bottle immediately. It doesn't smell like perfume on me - just smells like my skin is naturally softly spicy and exotic and gorgeous.

This one smells identical to Elizabeth Arden's Green Tea on my skin. Citrusy, refreshing, and light, great for summer. I won't be wearing it myself (prefer Kumiho, which I find a little more unique), but I ordered a 10 mL for my best friend for her birthday, because I think this scent is perfect for her.

Halloween is my favorite holiday, and I *love* the smell of October. I thought Jack would be perfect for me. Nope. My reaction was the same as tesseljoan's and shriekingviolet's. Screaming buttery pumpkin, barely any spice. Really disappointing - I wanted so badly to love this one.

Wet: Sweet cinnamon that somehow just misses smelling like Big Red. Not foody, somehow. I like it. Dry: Tragedy! Way too sweet (maybe the honeysuckle?). Loses any bite of spice. Not a winner on me. Waking up five hours later: Hang on, what's this? No more cinnamon, no more honeysuckle, just a warm snuggly wonderful vanilla (?!) that makes me keep sniffing my wrists. Vanilla is not in this scent. I don't know what's going on. Wish I could find a bottle of that third incarnation of the scent, though - it was divine.

Wearing it for the first time: Honey and...mint? Surprisingly light. Don't smell the sex everyone's talking about. Wearing for the second time: Oh, there it is. Much heavier and sweeter this time. Lasts for quite a while. Still not what I'd consider a sexy or sensual scent, though. It's pretty much just honey. Third wear: So O by itself is lacking something on me. O mixed with Old Morocco, however, is surprisingly nice. O is the dominant scent in the blend, but the spices in Old Morocco round it out beautifully. Golden spicy honey. Mmm. Smells exotic. Still not sexy, but I definitely like the blend. Edit: Okay, this has grown on me to the point that I need to buy a big bottle. It's my time of the month, and O smells more like the first honey-vaguely-minty incarnation on my skin - and it's unbelievable. I'm sitting at my desk sniffing my wrists about every ten seconds.

This blend is absolutely tragic on me. I wanted so badly to like it - the reviews are enchanting - but my chemistry hates this blend, apparently. On my skin it smells of Indonesian spices and boiled potatoes, with an occasional whiff of dirty diaper . No vanilla at all. The tiniest whisper of vanilla does show up about three hours later, but overall it's awful . Not for me. Phooey.
