1st impression.. Wet - Thick, spicy... Drydown, I can define the dragon's blood - uh oh.... Normally dragon's blood is De Debbil on me and amps astronomically, but this isn't bad. This is quite nice, soft. Smoke? I got a whiff of smoke... Odd... Ahhh it's back to spiced again. Yummm.... and it morphs yet again into a spiced fruit wine, more wine than fruit, but I can still catch whiffs of an alcoholic note. if it holds true to the overnight test, it'll be a soft, soft floral by the end of the day. I dabbed on a small spot at about 8 or 830 last night, and at 6 this morning, I could still smell it.

I had posted this in another thread... one about the scent most reviled or disliked, can't remember... I thought I'd reviewed this immediately after testing, but I guess I didn't. So, here it is, in all of it's heartbreaking harsheness: MAJOR hurlage. a small weensy dab of it on that soft pad of skin between the thumb and forefinger... never morphed, never warmed, nada, zip zilch. I smelled something rather sleazy and unappealing when I opened the imp and went on blind faith that there'd be some skin chemistry to soften it or change it. Alas.... I had to scrub it off and get some peppermint tea to settle my stomach, it was that awful. De Sade isn't for me... here's hoping that other scents with leather in them will. I envy those who can wear it and wear it well.

wet: clean... Crisp with a lemony edge, emphasis on edgey. Blech, for a brief few moments, it morphs into furniture polish!! It eventually settles into an astringent scent. Definitely better as a room scent or a linen spray than as a perfume on me. eta: this has softened down into something quite delicious. Definitely can see this in the morning to cut the sleepy and get you going, or layered over another scent to cut the edge. There's probably a bottle of it in the future.

I'm totally in the dark about this one. I tested it out last night, hoping for a spicy chai scent - and wound up with sour 5 days unwashed bodies. Unpleasant... Just from reading the assorted reviews, I'm going to give this another try in the near future, hoping it was just a bad chemistry day.
-
a gentle scent.. Sweet. Definitely tell the blackberries in the mix... Perhaps a touch of the heather as well. Perfect for the light clean perfume days. I've got two imps, by some odd twist. They're both staying and might get a big brother in the future.

I can't believe I haven't posted a review of this... SWEET! it's a fizzy, light scent. very uplifting and bright. works equally well as a room scent or a personal scent.

I can see where this would be considered a heavy blend. I'd read a review in this thread that the wearer kind of had a narcoleptic reaction to the oil - and I wondered if it'd possibly do the same to me. It didn't, fortunately (glasses aren't that fun to sleep in), but it did make me drowsy and nodding. If I hadn't the TV stimulating my attention, I probably would have dropped off sooner. It's a sharp smell out of the imp and wet. I get citrusy note while it's drying, then it smoothes out into a not unpleasant blended scent. I definitely will be trying it again.

FLOWERS bold, strong, cloying flowers. I kept it on as long as possible, hoping and praying it'd morph and I'd be treated to the spicy whiffs that everyone else has mentioned. It wasn't to be. Off to swaps it goes.

I should have read through *all* of the reviews before putting this on my wishlist. I had visions of a dark, sultry, spicy blend with the strength of an immortal fury behind it - I am woman, hear me roar and *don't* piss me off! But, unfortunately, I never sniffed chocolate, orange, musk or anything. It went straight to lemon verbena on me. Do no pass go, do not enjoy the olfactory emanations. Not that I mind lemon verbena at all, I love the scent. However, this just kept getting sharper and sharper. It just didn't work on me Off to the swaps pile it goes!

I don't get the feeling of a deep and luxuriant perfume... this is all sweetness and light on me. I can't really sniff anything out of the imp, but on the crook of my elbow, something stings for a few minutes. Once dried (and even when wet) I get sweet whiffs of fruit. My first thought was mulberry candles you find in craft stores. I don't get any amaretto nor do I get the tartness of black currant. Or course, my sniffer could be playing nine kinds of havoc with the scents. It's nice in a light way. Now that I know in my head I don't smell like a candle, I feel better about the scent. Perhaps what I'm perceiving as candle is the plum or currant in another form. I'll have to give this another try before I say yay or nay on it.

The Best Scents for Home, a Room, the Car...
gypsybaby1 replied to amberbella's topic in Recommendations
I've got one of these too, but instead water, I take the wick out of the cheapie tealights and drop the wax cake into the well and melt it with some scent. I've used Hearth '05, Bliss, Tum and last night Sudha Segara as room scents. Sudha Segara didn't really scent the room at all - and I used quite a lot. Tum, however, I could smell two rooms away and only used a few drops. Same with Bliss and Hearth. As far as fresh and neutral, my vote is for Tum - it's a fizzy sweet scent but it reminds me of fresh fruit instead of something artificial. Now, if you want a non-BPAL scent, I'd highly recommend BBWs new Vanilla Sugarcane scented oil. I damned near licked the oil well when we walked into the store. -
I had to get this on the basis of it being described as a "big ol' bottle of sunshine". A friend close to my heart once called me His Sunshine and I've held onto that for dear life ever since. I tested this lightly Monday evening, I believe, after it arrived. Of course, I had also tested Dorian at the same time and this was so light that it was lost in the ensuing lust for Dorian. But I do recall that I liked it when I caught whiffs of it... So, I decided to give it a proper test run - here at work of all places. I sniffed... I tested... I slathered!! I read all of the reviews while I was sniffing the test smear, waiting for something to go horribly wrong. It does have it's moments in the drying phase where I literally felt like there were fumes wafting up from a heavy, weighty, boozy perfume. However, it lightened up considerably and it's a warm, spicy, ver lightly boozy scent now. Everyone's talking about golden scents... I don't understand how a scent can be golden, but I'm going with it. I just get random flashes of green mixed in with the whiffs now and again. It's a keeper, but definitely only one bottle. LOL I might get another bottle to send to a friend for her Christmas giftie - I think she'd love it. Just one last thing - I definitely get the Litha / ELF comparisons. Yeah... definitely.

I have to admit, it was this review that made me get a bottle of Dorian. and sweet mother of GOD am I glad I did! It's gorgeous! I'm all over the creaminess that this dries down into. Sweet, creamy tea. Oh definitely... yeah.. Dorian's got me and I'm not leaving!

in the vial, it was... odd. I could definitely smell the rose, and it worried me. I had visions of it going on a rampage and me winding up praying upon the altar of the porcelain god due to the nausea headache. imagine my surprise when I sniffed it and got fruit!! it's a sweet scent, not at all what the name conjures visions of. definitely have to give it another try another time to formulate a solid opinion.

I have to admit, when I got this as a freebie in a recent swap, I had no idea it even existd in the catalog. So, looking it up, I became terrified of the roses. all of my rose perfume experience has resulted in nausea inducing headaches and old lady perfume. I'm pleased to say that this is gorgeous. it's light, crisp, sweet and unimposing. I can see this as a 'skin scent', perhaps even a bath suite complete with scrub and lotion. Definitely a scent for those "no perfume" days when I want to smell nice and fresh.

I didn't even stop and sniff this wet in the vial... I applied it while driving. yeah, I know, not safe. what wasn't safe was this scent. I lifted my wrist to my nose and about drove off of the road. holy hanna barbara! I don't know what did it, I was expecting spicy and mysterious... what I got was mint slathered Goodyear tire... one good thing to say is that the scent didn't change at all. I still smell mint tire. Off to the swaps it goes

got this as a frimp in one of my other swaps... and was SO excited to try it. I've worn it twice now and it's breaking my heart. I so wanted to have the same experience with 13 that everyone else did! In the imp I get lovely a light chocolate almond scent, heavy on the chocolate. Then, on, it goes away, never to be smelled again. I wind up getting some sort of herby funky scent that lingers for about an hour, then vanishes completely. Off to the swaps it goes!

in the bottle - sweet... creamy... wet - vanilla cake!! sweet, rich, home-made vanilla cake with buttery notes. Just a wee smidge of a hint of berries. black? raspberries? subtle blackberries. it's all fading, but I'm also sniffing pretty hard and only a teeny dab at that. it's softening, melding together. dry - Very nice and blending to a blackberry cake now with a splash of butteriness. a dense cake with full berries waiting for a bite, a fluffy vanilla frosting on top, not too sweet, dotted with berries and syrup drizzles

A soft, sensual, luxuriant blend with a wicked bite: hazelnut, buttercream, honey mead, rum and sweet almond. I have to admit, there's something in this blend that's biting the bejeebus out of my inner elbows and nibbling behind my ears. shortly after application this morning, the skin on my inner elbows flamed up red. The irritation went away rather quickly (I got the same reaction from MonsterBait: Underbed and from another cinnamony blend...) Once it dried, I could have sworn there was cloves, cloves and more cloves... it smelled like the pumkpin pie spices we use around thanksgiving. And then it mellowed... ohhh geez it mellowed... I'm definitely getting the boozy tone of this.. Keeper, definitely a keeper. A nice rebound after the Heartbreak that was O.
-
in the bottle, cool and crisp smelling. wet, on - by damned if it wasn't actually COLD!! I kid you not, it was very cooling on the application, like alcohol or peppermint. and no, it wasn't room temperature, my room's the hottest one in the house. dry - didn't change from the bottle, stayed true. Once in a while I'll get a cool zing across where I applied it, but it's an overall soft scent that I can see wearing on those "non-perfume" days. it's not the love of my life, granted, but it's nice. further testing will be required.
-
in the bottle: aw..damn... I just... aw damn... this reminds me of going to the coffee shops and smelling the fresh roasted coffee beans in the jars. Hazelnut cinnamon coffee, that's what this smells of... drying: again... aw damn... the rich buttery scent is fading a bit and it's warming up to a spiced blend. I'll have to edit this once I get home and it's completely dried. But for now, it's love, pure love
-
honey.... yummmmmmmm. it does indeed smell of mead upon opening the bottle! Fortunately for me, it's one that stays true and changes very little on my skin. I smell honey mixed with a light touch of herbs and a lingering heat somewhere in the background, almost evanescent.
-
I don't get any creaminess in this at all. Once it's dried, I get a sweet citrusy ginger scent that reminds me of B&BW's discontinued Ginger Lime. I LOVED that scent - fresh, clean and a slight bit energizing. I do believe this one's a keeper!
-
I can't remember any notes coming out at me individually, but instead it's a nicely blended scent. In the bottle it's slightly sweet, very enticing. On me, it dries down to a spiced scent. Just to show how different noses are - mom caught a whiff of it and asked me when I'd started wearing musty, musky perfumes. Definite keeper!
-
I'm heartbroken!! In the imp and wet, it's a beautiful, almost overwhelming almondy scent. On the drying phase, it's still almondy, but a bit of spice is creeping in... until it turns to soap on my skin once it's completely dried. Talk about confusion! I kept sniffing it to see if I could place it, then I got that icky filmy soap-bubble taste in my mouth and realized that's what'd happened - Hecate, Mighty Goddess, turned laundry-wife on me. I'm thinking this is destined for a room scent rather than a me scent - as long as I can maintain that almond scent.
